@bcashaw I haven't decided yet what to do about social media. We don't live near either family so we use social media as a way to stay connected. I may do a FB spring cleaning and remove anyone I am not 110% comfortable with. I'm fairly private on FB already
@MississippiCatfish@ShePersisted yep. You can get your eyelashes permed so you don't have to curl them. They can also color your eyelashes so you don't have to wear mascara. But I don't know if it's safe during pregnancy.
Personally I will share as normal however I understand why some parents would chose not to. We live far from family and friends so social media is the way we connect. My dad got a FB and an iPad when we moved to Korea just so that he could Facetime me and see my pictures. Also, DH may deploy at some point and I'm sure he'd want to see things too. Email is always possible but I don't see it as ideal. I'd hate to get all the replies haha.
@bcashaw there are settings where if someone shares your picture, only people you're friends with yourself/mutual friends can see it. I went to share an update on our dog we adopted, including pictures, and I had to change the privacy settings of that particular post to public because others in the rescue group couldn't see it. eta: I just checked my FB settings options and you can even make it so that only specific friends can see your posts or that certain friends can't see them.
@bcashaw best option is to create a private group page and share photos on it. Then you control who is invited and can see. Also, you can make it to where people can or can't share the photos posted.
My husband and I post on Facebook, but we have limited friends on it. On top of that, I have all of my friends categorized as "close friends", "acquaintances", etc. so when I post pictures, I can choose which groups of friends can see it. Also, I never post things before they happen, like "Oh, little Tommy (not my child's name) has a baseball game at Such-and-such field tonight!" As I never want people to know where we'll be. Instead I post after events are over. And we have no other social media as I don't trust instagram or Snapchat. And my children are too young, imo, to have access to social media. I'm probably a little extra cautious, but I watch too many Criminal Minds episodes! Hahaha
@cmessamore I'm super careful about not posting where we will be, as well. I will say "interested" in public events, but only rsvp yes to private ones.
I don't share much about ds online because I feel the weight of a life-long internet reputation is something to be very careful with. I asked his preschool not to share photos of him on their pages. "Cute" kid things can suddenly turn into viral memes and I would be devastated if that happened to DS. I'll probably be that horrible parent that won't give the public school any permission to take his photo. I go back and forth because it does mean having to stop and pull him out of things with his friends, but I am just trying to protect him. A picture of him from a public event ended up getting used by the FIRE DEPARTMENT on flyers that went to every single elementary school in town. I was so pissed. What if he was a foster care child?? They 100% should have had a permission slip for that.
@bcashaw DH and I have private instagrams, and have pretty private settings on Facebook, so I share quite a bit. Friends and family are spread all over the world so it's the easiest way for us to keep people updated. I did a big purge of my friends list before DS was born, and do them every so often to make sure I don't have random creepers seeing anything.

@artificialred DH and I were actually looking a fostering before when TTC was seeming to not work out. I read so many stories of foster kids having to miss activities like that when all that has to happen is someone go through and make sure the child isn't identifiable in the pictures (sometimes back of head/hands/etc. is okay depending on the state).
Random: Do not watch 9 months that made you on Netflix. I thought it would be all cute and informational. Cue the panic attack. It is literally just a show on what millions of things can go wrong at each minute stage of development. Skip. It.
I saw this too late. The nightmares have already begun lol
I hate that I'm so headstrong sometimes. I've been horribly sick, diarrhea all day and vomiting all night for almost 2 weeks and I know I should just call the doctor but I don't want to be perceived as a wimp. Which I know is totally stupid. I have 2 other kids to take care of and shouldn't be trying to be a hero. Ughhhh. I just need to suck it up and call but my stupid pride and thought of "my body is supposed to be able to handle this" is stopping me.
@ugoglencoco I think you should treat yourself and go to the doctor. You're so not a wimp after dealing with that for two weeks already! Sometimes bodies do crazy ish that they can't actually handle. Regardless, I hope you feel better
It's only 50 deg here but it's April so I refuse to wear boots now unless I'm wearing them with a dress and no tights. I switched my work bag from my winter one (grey wool/black leather) to my spring bag (blush), I'm wearing light pink ankle pants and flats to work today and I am ECSTATIC about it. It's making me happier and weirdly more energetic than wearing my mostly dark winter clothes. I'm extra excited because I bought these pants on clearance over the winter and I'm happy I get to wear them for a little bit before my body blows up.
@ugoglencoco I completely understand. My first pregnancy was so easy I was like "psh what do all these women bitch about?" Now in miserable this time and my pride won't let me accept the help I know I need sometimes. Take the help!! I've learned to swallow my pride a lot recently.
@DuchessOfCambridge Floridian here so I can't imagine 50 degrees right now. We're going to the water park after DS's nap and I got a wicked sunburn on my shoulders over the weekend!
My OBs office gave me a giant tote bag with the OB departments name printed on it and a pregnancy book and a whole bunch of reading material. Wow! I have manage to hide the tote bag in my big computer bag but there is no way I can let anyone at work see it! Lol.
@ShePersisted my midwife gave me a tote bag of reading material/ads too. Plus! A little four pack sample of formula that expires two months before my due date! Uh, thanks?
@ArtificialRed I am shocked that the fire station did that. I have a foster child and am so very careful when taking her out and have gone a bit crazy at people for taking photos of her. I think it's totally valid to not be okay with your child's face being anywhere you don't approve it.
Does anyone else feel uncomfortable about the teepee nursery trend? If it smells like cultural appropriation...
I get that they are probably really fun for kids but doesn't a kid tent serve the same purpose without being kind of racist and having the back story of "we kicked you and your homes off your land"?
I am amazed (and a little jealous) that so many doctors prescribe things for the nausea/vomiting. My doctors have always been very: "yup, nausea and vomiting is part of being pregnant. Stay hydrated. Eat many small meals a day. Take your prenatals with food. And remember this too shall pass. See you next month." Maybe I need a more empthetic doctor! Lol
@cmessamore My first appointment was just a pee pregnancy test and a nurse took my vitals, made sure I had prenatals, knew what I can't eat, etc. She also offered me nausea medicine right way even though I was only 3+5 and didn't even mention any nausea or vomiting.
@slaven wow! That is totally different than the office I go to! My first appointment is next week, but after having other babies with the office. I know I'm in for blood work, vaginal exam, ultrasound, urine test, and talking about prenatals and whatever other meds I'm taking. I feel like they offer nothing without begging!
@cmessamore I feel you. With DD, I had morning sickness super bad. I nearly failed a few of my college classes because I couldn't stop vomiting enough to make it to class half the time. I remember having not kept anything down for over 24 hours and my husband deagging me onto the bed and force feeding me ginger ale and crackers because I had passed out in the bathroom doorway. And the army OB was like, "Drink water. You'll be fine."
My new OB did like @slaven 's, and offered nausea meds right away. I was like no thanks, I'm fine, but I already love you. She said call anytime and she'll get the prescription in right away.
If you want to go over the counter, Unisom and B4 is supposed to be equivalent to one of the popular morning sickness meds, just FYI.
@gipfish@cmessamore I thought it was B6, not B4.... I haven't looked into it though and I'm running out for my lunch break. You can ask your pharmacist though!
@ArtificialRed I work in marketing and we have to be so so careful with permissions for photos for kids. All parents have to sign permission forms and I make sure we put a little dot on the kids' name tags who do not have permission to be in photos... that way any random staff I have working an event will know-- just pull that child out of the picture, or crop it in such a way that they are not in it. And if later I see that there's a picture with a kid with a dot on the nametag I just delete it.
@gipfish@cmessamore I thought it was B6, not B4.... I haven't looked into it though and I'm running out for my lunch break. You can ask your pharmacist though!
You're probably right. I am the most terrible at mixing up numbers!
@cmessamore@slaven@gipfish My RE only recommended meds when I described how much I was vomiting... I'm surprised people would get it right away, but since it is considered so safe maybe they want to get ahead of it with a better safe than sorry approach.
Re: Weekly Randoms 3/27
But I don't know if it's safe during pregnancy.
I have been looking forward to this week because of first appt but on the others hand it's going to be a massively long, stressful work week.
