Vent warning: DHs family is having a little crisis right now and I get he wants to be there, but it's reallllllly not necessary, we can't do anything more than we can do on the phone (no one os dying). But DH wants to drive up tomoorw, an 8 hr drive (flying isn't an option, no nearby airports) after our dental appts and stay for one day and drive 8 hrs back. It makes no sense to me. I get wanting to be there, both of our families have been going through ish lately and it's hard to be away. But I also don't think it's smart to put us on the road for 8 hrs, while we are both tired, driving to a place that has bad weather. It's just seems like a bad decision. I feel like a jerk. Judge away. I'm tired and grumpy. And tired. And DH is putting all the pressure on me to talk to his family bc it stresses him out. I feel like a jerk. I should be packing our bags and doing laundry.
@jess0211 Spending 2/3 of a day driving and spending 1 day there does seem unreasonable to me. I'm sorry you're between a rock and a hard place. Will he go without you?
It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*
@NYTino24 thank you for making me feel less crazy! I doubt he would go alone and honestly I don't want him to, he isn't a good long distance driver by himself
My DH is on a crash diet (he's military and a little too close to the weight cut off for his height) so I just bought butter fingers and I'm so excited that they are allllll for meeeee!

@adirat I'm taking DS1 into the city for his first broadway show in a couple weeks and want to plan some before/after things that aren't too tiring. I really dont want him falling asleep in the front row of the Lion King! Haha! We've done Statue of Liberty, been to Central Park a couple of times, and been to the Top of the Rock. I was thinking a museum, but couldnt find any that seemed more suited to a 5 1/2 year old.
Also, we usually travel into the city on weekends (only once or twice a year) but we have always wanted to eat at Ellens Stardust Diner but it's always a 2 or more hour wait. Is it any better on weekdays, or should I make alternate lunch plans?
I envy that you're so close! For me its a long trek down to New Haven or Stamford and then a haul on the metro north!!
After the decision yesterday about Planned Parenthood funding and the recent decisions of the current US administration...I am feeling disappointed, depressed and ashamed to be an American at this moment. I love my country and the freedoms it has afforded me, but this is not the America that I know and love.
I don't want to get too political on here, but I really wish the current administration actually represented the needs, wishes and caring attitudes that many Americans actually embrace. Instead...we look like a heartless, uneducated bunch of uncaring circus clowns at the moment.
I'm currently very upset with Kohls. My DS is very petite and the only shorts that fit him correctly were the stretchy waist Jumping Beans brand cargo shorts. Well aparently they decided not to make jean shorts this year, just weird colors. Why? I want jean shorts because they match everything!
@dragonfly87 I feel you on that. Response in spoiler to spare others political discussions.
My family is quite religious and we have our own feelings on abortion due to that (I don't judge others however, or try to push my views onto them. It's just not for me) but my own mother has used PP before just for normal healthcare. Why are they taking this away? Why isn't women's health considered important? Why are there jokes made about mammograms and not prostrate screenings? It's incredibly offensive, especially when the decision was made after Mike Pence spent time the day before at a womens empowerment event. He is just a bad person and I can't believe otherwise based on the things he's done.
@dragonfly87@DuchessOfCambridge I am right there with you. I volunteered at PP in high school and did some of their education outreach. I grew up in a very poor and small community and PP was one of the only places many women and even men could go for reproductive health. I am so very disappointed at the current state of things. I don't want to get political here, there is enough of that on FB, but I fear for the future of my child right now. I don't feel the administration is for the people.
Sorry for not putting this in a spoiler but I have no idea how to.
Random and off topic but i'm excited for the December BMB to start because it'll make me feel more pregnant to have a BMB after mine. Which is absurd, I know.

I don't do a ton of touristy things so I'm not really sure about the diner. Truly no idea about other options like that, sorry.
Have you been to the Natural History Museum? I think a five year old would like it.
I personally disdain Times Square so I am the wrong person to vouch for these things, but there are some shops there that people love, like the M&Ms store, Hershey's Chocolate World, the Disney store, and the big toy store (I can't remember the name but it's somewhat famous?).
@adirat@ugoglencoco FAO Schwarz closed. How about the Lego store in Rockefeller Plaza?

More of a bitchfest than anything but I had to let it out. My schedule for the next 3 days: work 6p-1a tonight; get up at 6 to drive 3 hours to my sister's house with my 2yo by myself, drive back Sunday morning (my birthday) so I can work 3p-midnight.
I haven't packed yet, I'm beyond irritable about this whole thing. We made these plans before I was pregnant and now the thought of driving 3 hours first thing in the morning already makes me want to puke like I know I'm going to. To be fair she's given me every chance to back out but then I'll just have to reschedule and I kinda want to get it over with.
The state of this country and the new/possible policies are absolutely appalling. A bunch of rich old white men deciding what women do and do not get to do with their bodies, and don't even get me started on minorities and LGBTQ+...

@DuchessOfCambridge did you know Princess Kate is pregnant again (due in September)? My DH just sent me a picture text of a magazine in a check out line with the news. Haha Last time I was pregnant I found out she was naming her new baby Charlotte when we were already settled on Charlotte. We almost changed names and then decided to stick with it. Hopefully she doesn't take my name for this baby too!
@TallMomma29 I didn't! TBH, I don't read magazines ever so I haven't ever learned about her pregnancies until the palace has confirmed haha. But if it's true then that's exciting and I also hope she doesn't take your name!
@shepersisted just looking for recs on kid friendly activities for when i take my 5 1/2 year old over April vaca. Something not too tiring because I'm taking him to Lion King as well! If you can think of anything let me know! I want to make a day out of it but dont want to exhaust and overstimulate him either.
@adirat I looked up the natural history museum, seems like he would love that! Times square isnt my favorite place (I hate all those dressed up characters that want to charge you a fortune and harrass you) but thats where the show is. Either way, Ds loves all those stores, even the silly little souvenir shops so I'm sure we will end up doing the big stores as well! Thanks!
We're at my parents house this weekend. I love them but I'm always slightly on edge while I'm here. We brought our cat though and he is a great distraction, they like to fuss over him. Last time we visited (before we got pregnant) they would rock him and my mom sang him lullabies. We got the hint they want to be grandparents
@DuchessOfCambridge have you noticed any changes in your cat's behavior since being pregnant? I feel crazy but my one girl cat refuses to sleep with DH now and only wants to sleep right next to me and my boy cat is always in my face now. To the point I had to have DH come get him tonight because it went from cute to super annoying in 0.5 secs. My logical self thinks they can't possibly know and be behaving differently because of it, but I am seriously wondering
@jess0211 mine isn't, maybe it's because he's still technically a kitten? He's 7 months old and is generally super affectionate. DHs cousins wife did experience that with their cat though. She went CRAZY while his wife was pregnant. They had to buy feliway to calm her down and she was ok after that. I think that was a more peeing thing than cuddling though.
ETA I don't rule out your cats knowing. Animals are pretty intuitive and respond to human hormones (for example, DHs cousins cat). Yours is more desirable than peeing everywhere though haha
@jess0211 Pets can totally know. My dog has felt the need to lay on my stomach at every opportunity and just generally be super attached to me for all 3 of my pregnancies. We're pretty sure she's part beagle, so it's not surprising that if any dog can smell the pregnancy hormones, she can.
@jess0211 we have a Saint Bernard who was always super attached to me pre baby. While pregnant, he would always walk up to me and lay his head on my belly. Once DD came home, he pouted for months. He never came up and laid his head on my stomach since I was pregnant with DD. He has started doing it again, and has to check every night to make sure I'm in bed and ok.
@ugoglencoco a few ideas would be: - the children's museum on the west side - the transit museum in Brooklyn - I think the Central Park zoo followed a stroll near the lake to see mini sailboats in the water. You could even rent one for him/her. - walk down the high line park. It's pretty fun as it's built on rail tracks and people of all ages enjoy it. Hopefully weather cooperates. - Chelsea piers - go to the laser tag or even the children's activity center or just walk down the river edge and enjoy some nice view - water taxi around the city. It's a lot of fun for kids. -muesuem of natural history is pretty g
@dragonfly87 I hesitate to say anything too political, because it's so early and I still really want everyone here to like me , but I agree with a lot of those sentiments. I am not proud to be an American. I am GRATEFUL to be an American, for the freedoms and advantages that I am given for it. I feel fortunate to live here. I am thankful for everything our armed forces has done to give me those freedoms. But no, I am not proud.
Wondering how you all feel about your babies and social media? I know some prefer to keep their kids off of it, while others make separate account for their babies and some just find a happy medium. This is something I have thought about a lot. I would like to share photos of my baby on my Facebook as I have many friends in different countries, but I'm not comfortable with my step kids sharing photos of the baby on their social media because they are not careful about their privacy settings and I'm not okay with that. Therfore I think I asndm just going to say no social media period. And then send out emails or private messages to those who ask. Thoughts on social media and your baby?
@bcashaw DH and I have quite private FBs and my insta is even more private and has fewer friends so I'll personally feel comfortable sharing. I understand about your step kids though, I wouldn't be comfortable with that either.
@DuchessOfCambridge I'm a traveller so many of my friends are in different countries. Not sure how I'm going to manage to keep Arellano of them updated
