Hi @cmiller73. Yes, tonight is night 6 for stims. I've been going to monitoring every other day and as of this morning, I have 3 growing follicles. On Thurs they saw a couple of other small ones but they didn't report them this morning -frustrating. I was really hoping this cycle would be more successful. My ER will probably be sometime next weekend.
How are you doing?

@laurad75 Have you grown since baseline? I found that what they report is often based on who the heck was the U/S tech that morning. Some days I would get good info, others little to none unless I specifically asked the nurse drawing my blood to review my sheet.
I'm ok, I suppose. Trying to keep my mind busy until I start stimming again. I test for LH on Wednesday, DH and I meet with RE on Thursday and then once I have surge, count down 10 days til patches and shots begin. Honestly, I am just killing time til stims. It's crazy how it takes over your thought process. I read somewhere that during IVF, work and other things become more like a distraction and though 'no way, not me, can't afford to be distracted' but it is SO true! I am going through the house and personal preparations for when I get too tired and cranky in a few weeks to even think about doing any of it.
Keep positive, I was such a slow responder to my first cycle that they thought i would be lucky to have 5 follicles at time of trigger then I just exploded. Sending good growth vibes your way for the next week to help em along!
@MMD1986 good question... Should we just start a new thread called "April IVF book club thread"? Then anyone who wants could join but you wouldn't end up there unless you want to be?
Here are some book ideas: (all fiction except the last. I've been wanting to read this one for a while, and I think it would be good discussion.) Anyone else have any ideas?
@cmiller73 Thank you for saying that. I have 3 good size follicles that have been consistently growing but on my CD 5 appt they said there were 2-4 more smaller ones brewing. At this appt they didn't say anything about those and just said I had 3 so I was really disappointed. I go back tomorrow morning and hopefully there will be some activity.
I am 100% guilty of allowing this to process to take over my life. Its so hard when you are just waiting for the next step.

@MMD1986@daisy222 An April IVF book club might be a little exclusive. If you want to keep it to the IF board you can set up a new thread here inviting people to participate to get an idea of interest. You can set up a poll to decide on the first book. You can also set up a group separate from the boards and then invite people from other areas of TB.
I just started a new book but I may join in at some point.

Has anyone had a REALLY hard time with their stomach tolerating the Flagyll at the beginning of this process? I'm thinking (although this is my first IVF) that this may be worse than the stims! I'm really sensitive to meds as far as stomach side effects and after my first day of antibiotics yesterday I was up dry heaving all night and am now a zombie at my desk. It's making me doubt I have what it takes to do this, like something's wrong with me or I'm too old for this, but I have like $9k of meds sitting in my dining room so it's not like I'm quitting. Sorry for the Debbie Downer just no sleep last two nights has me in a weird place. Anyone else sometimes feel like this?
@Momifbysea Have you talked to your doctor? I take only 2 or 3 doses total of azithromycin for IVF. When I've had flagyl/metronidazole, it was in the form of a cream suppository (to cure a vaginal bacterial infection, which is linked to higher rates of miscarriage).
If you're taking it for that, maybe they can switch you to a cream. It doesn't cause tummy trouble.
Even if that's not the case, they could probably try a different kind, to see if you tolerate it better. I'd also recommend probiotics.
I'm so sorry you feel so icky!

hi ladies! I intro'd early in this thread but took a backseat while I was waiting on insurance approval. I also had a laparoscopy done last week and found out I have endo and badly damaged tubes from my ectopic. My dr called today and said approval came through, we are scheduled to start stims april 7 eeeeekkkk! I look forward to getting to know you all.
edit to add- we plan to do icsi, freeze all and testing on embryos. I'm hoping for a fet in May.

@brooklyngirl18 glad to see you here, our schedules are really close together! It's going to really get real pretty soon! I have my baseline April 6. We are also doing ICSI, PGS, and FET. You mentioned your FET would probably be in May...I'm curious why my clinic said FET is usually 6-8 weeks after my period starts after ER...doesn't that sound like a long time to wait? I'll ask my RE at my baseline spot since a nurse had told me the 6-8 week figure.
@Momifbysea i honestly have no idea, I'm a total newb with all this stuff. My dr said the timeline is usually about 5-6 weeks from starting stims to embryo transfer. I've read some dr's want you to wait an extra cycle in between retrieval and transfer, maybe my dr goes right back in the next cycle without waiting an additional one? I'm sure other ladies on here can explain it way better than me

I had my baseline US today, am hopefully going to start stims Friday!
Unfortunately, things could potentially be on hold b/c they saw either a cyst or a very large follicle (11 mm) on my R ovary. I am CD1, so it seems weird to be a follicle (right?). They also did a blood test, and they said that if the cyst "seems to be producing estrogen" we may have to delay and go back on the pill another month to try to shrink it. UGH.
My nurse also mentioned that occasionally the Dr can pop the cyst to make it go away. Gross, and also painful sounding. Anyone ever experienced this?
The results are expected tomorrow, so then I'll know if I am in or out this month.

Hi! Exciting that you can jump into IVF so soon after the lap surgery, that's awesome. I remember multiple doctors told me I was technically at my most fertile immediately after getting the endo growths removed, so it seems great to start immediately.

@daisy222 after removing my endo my doctor gave me 6 months before it likely returns. I'm at right about 4 months since surgery so fingers crossed the birth control they have had me on kept it away.
Hopefully you get good news tomorrow! Cysts are sooo annoying.
@daisy22 it will be 3 weeks between the laparoscopy and stims. I was wondering if it was too soon? I have my post op next friday so hopefully everything looks good and i'm clear to proceed. good luck with the results tomorrow, hopefully it's a cyst and clears on it's own.
@mmd1986 if you don't mind my asking, why are you waiting on your period before starting ivf? I was under the impression you stay on bc then go right to stims?

Glad this thread is starting to get more active! @Daisy22 I would think the doctor popping it could be just like a mini ER?
AFM, I had 13 follies - 7 on my R sizes 12 and 13 and 6 on my L sizes 12,13 and 2 14s. Lining was 3 layers and an 8. Estrogen was 802. This was after 6 days of stims. Going to monitoring every day now. Started Ganirelix this morning. Also started the Prednisone and Had an intralipid infusion last night.
@laurad75 checking in to see how yesterday went! Work has kept me off the boards a bit and catching up tonight.
Nice to see people's cycles progressing along, some new and some of us moving on to our next cycle.
AFM, started peein' on the stick to check for LH surge today. If I maintain my frighteningly regular timing, I should hit surge on Saturday-ish. Tomorrow DH and I meet with RE to review our last cycle and discuss this next one and firm up our 'plan'. I am going to be asking if I might have stimmed too long. I had 11 follicles of my 24 measurable that had no eggs.... is that a thing? if you go too long can they just go away? Im probably asking a really dumb question haha
Tomorrow I order all my meds. YAY for OOP. #frownyface
I took a small break and there is so much catching up to do! I'll probably stick with the April board since today is CD5 and ER will most likely be end of March and fresh transfer (FX) early April. I am on my third day of stims and so far, so good. Trying to stay optimistic. I feel better that I have one IVF under my belt and I know what to expect and I added in acupuncture and assisted hatching this time, so I am hoping the improvements will help.
Thanks @cmiller73. The last monitoring only showed the three so I triggered last night and ER is tomorrow. Hopefully those 3 will be good quality but we will most likely go right into another round of stims and a 3rd ER regardless.
GL with your appt today. I don't know the answer to your questions but I'm curious what the doctor tells you.

My FET is scheduled for the end of April so I'm joining here! My retrieval was in February and we had to do a freeze all cycle, but we were able to freeze 12. My husband travels a lot and I'll need to do the majority of my shots by myself so I'm a little nervous for that, but excited to move forward.
@laurad75 Ah... well FX for your ER and on a Friday to boot! TGIF indeed Positive thoughts to you and DH this round. I remind myself daily that it is quality over quantity. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow!
My appt today was pretty much as we expected. The RE opened up a bit more about how aggressive the protocol was and how well it actually went. I asked the grade of our frozen embie and he said 5BB... I guess that's good? He was very happy with it.
I asked if he thought I stimulated too long. Very quick answer. NO. It was perfect. When I asked why there was such a drop off from follicles to retrieved eggs, he actually said he expected to retrieve 25 eggs from the stimulation he saw on my charts... I was like WHAAAAT???? Jeez. My response to the meds was like someone 10-15 years younger than I am and more like a donor haha. Maybe he was trying to make me feel special (it worked).
He said that part of the attrition could be my age, but most likely it was due to the lupron only trigger meant to stop me from OHSS. This round he did make a change to my benchmark E2 target to only do lupron only if I spike over 3250-3500 (this last cycle I triggered at 3467) because my recovery was extremely quick and I had very limited bloating post ER after going into 25 follicles.
So, 12 days and counting til meds start and see where this cycle takes us with the trigger change possibilities and the definite ICSI to improve fertilization rate. Grateful to be able to try again and we are in the position to do this OOP. Grateful to have a DH who is in it 100%, supportive and keeps me laughing&smiling. Funniest moment from our first cycle is when he came back from collecting eggs from the chicken coop, had them in his coat pockets and WADDLED in front of me (on couch with the heating pad) and moaned "OHHHH... *frownyface* I have so many eggs in my ovaltines" and proceeded to pull out fresh eggs. I LOLd SO HARD. hahah
@cmiller73 25?!? Geez! I have a good feeling for you and doing the ICSI sounds like a good way to go (we will do the same due to me being over 40). Laughing about the chicken coop egg remarks- sounds like your husband is a great support and laughter has got to be good during all this!
@laurad75 newbie ivf'er question...if you go right into stims for another ER, what is the wait time between? The timing is confusing to me and I'm trying to figure out if I'd have time for a second ER if needed before our cross-country move. I'm thinking that at age 42 I realistically should expect to need this.
i have more newbie questions for the group...I know after FET that hot baths would be off limits, but how about up until then? I'm looking for some stress relief. Also, in our IVF class I remember the nurse saying no BD during a certain window but by that point in the class my head was spinning and I felt faint after seeing all the needles lol so I spaced out and forgot what she said. Thanks!
@Momifbysea - my RE said i could do baths up until a couple days before my ER, and since I am doing FET, baths are fine up until a day or two before that. They were a lifesaver after the ER for me. I love taking a bath to relax, so that's one thing that stinks that we have to give up when pregnant...lol
@caseyw8784 You got to enjoy baths after ER? My nurse said absolutely not for at least a week after ER. It was pretty hilarious to watcher explain that 'Nothing and I mean NOTHING can go in. Or even think of going in. Don't even try. Bathwater included.'
@cmiller73 - I was told to wait 72 hours...and honestly, if i had even tried before then, i probably would've gotten stuck in the tub cause moving hurt so much for the first few days! i can only imagine, if i had tried that while DH was at work, and i got stuck in the tub and had to call 911...DH's engine company would be the first to respond...
But it is interesting how different RE's have different policies with EVERYTHING, it seems...lol
@Momifbysea My wait time was a cycle on bcp. Last round I had my ER on Feb 10, then got my period 12 days later. On CD 3 I started bcp and took them for 14 days and then got my period a few days after my last dose. That new cycle I started stims on CD 2. I'm hopeful that they will let me go straight to another round again. I'll have that conversation in a week or so after we see how many fertilize and how they do.

@cmiller73 we are doing ICSI. We don't have MFI but they are covering it. We did a NCIVF several years ago and our 1 egg didn't fertilize so I pushed for it.
Thanks for the answers ladies! It is interesting how RE's and nurses at different clinics have different "rules", so to speak. So as soon as I finish this cream alternative to the Flagyl in two more nights, into the tub I shall go!!!
I had another scan today. I'm up to 19 measurable follicles 12mm and over. 9 are between 14 and 16. The rest are 12 and 13 after 7 days of stims. Waiting on my bloodwork.
The nurse mentioned maybe dialing back on meds the last few days to avoid possible OHSS since I want to do a fresh transfer.
Our insurance counts a transfer as an attempt attempt so each FET would count against our 3 IVF attempts. I'm not sure and can't get a clear answer on whether if this time the stims amd retrieval count as an attempt if we had to do a freeze all in case of OHSS. I can't waste an attempt of the frozen transfer would count as a 2nd attempt. It is such a balance to get enough eggs but not too many you know.
If if we get a lot of blasts Im considering PGS the rest then freezing besides the best looking 2 and use those for fresh transfer. We had opted out of PGS due to the issue of using up 2 attempts. But if we have a lot from this first retrieval maybe we should do it on the leftovers.

Me: 34 ("unexplained IF"), DH: 40 (he is fine!), Married since 2013, 2 cats
TTC since Aug 2014May 2016: laproscopy, found & removed moderate (stage III) endo (largest growth was on R ovary)
Summer/Fall 2016: 3x IUI w/ clomid & trigger shot, 3x BFN
Jan 2017: 2 months of lupron depot to quiet endo (ugh). Done!
March 2017: IVF #1 (antagonist) Cancelled/converted to IUI #4 on 3/31/17, CP
May 2017: IVF #1, try 2 (Lupron added). ER 5/23 (14 retrieved, 11 mature, 10 fertilized, 3 blasts frozen, 2 PGS normal). FET in late July!
Hi! Exciting that you can jump into IVF so soon after the lap surgery, that's awesome. I remember multiple doctors told me I was technically at my most fertile immediately after getting the endo growths removed, so it seems great to start immediately.

Hopefully you get good news tomorrow! Cysts are sooo annoying.
Welcome @Ash_SE and @brooklyngirl18!
I have my baseline on Friday. If all looks good and my cysts are gone I start Lupron that day, finish my BC on Sunday and then just wait for AF.
@mmd1986 if you don't mind my asking, why are you waiting on your period before starting ivf? I was under the impression you stay on bc then go right to stims?

AFM, I had 13 follies - 7 on my R sizes 12 and 13 and 6 on my L sizes 12,13 and 2 14s. Lining was 3 layers and an 8. Estrogen was 802. This was after 6 days of stims. Going to monitoring every day now. Started Ganirelix this morning. Also started the Prednisone and Had an intralipid infusion last night.
#frownyface
@brooklyngirl18 I'm not sure what is normal with birth control and IVF. My nurse just said call her when I get AF, and I'll start my stims that day.
GL with your appt today. I don't know the answer to your questions but I'm curious what the doctor tells you.

I LOLd SO HARD. hahah
Looking forward to Cycle #2!
@laurad75 good luck tomorrow!
@cmiller73 25?!? Geez! I have a good feeling for you and doing the ICSI sounds like a good way to go (we will do the same due to me being over 40). Laughing about the chicken coop egg remarks- sounds like your husband is a great support and laughter has got to be good during all this!
i have more newbie questions for the group...I know after FET that hot baths would be off limits, but how about up until then? I'm looking for some stress relief. Also, in our IVF class I remember the nurse saying no BD during a certain window but by that point in the class my head was spinning and I felt faint after seeing all the needles lol so I spaced out and forgot what she said. Thanks!
But it is interesting how different RE's have different policies with EVERYTHING, it seems...lol
