Joining this thread late in my game :)

I stimmed at the end of Feb with a trigger on day 14: 75IU Menopur + 150IU GonalF (they changed it around a bit during the cycle, but not by much) + Cetrotide for the last 5 days. Trigger with 5000 hCG.
They cut my trigger in half, since I had ~70 follicles and estrogen was climbing fast. I was identified as "high risk of ohss" even before the cycle started. Because of the risks, we already knew that it'll be freeze-all cycle with no fresh transfer.

During stims, I felt like I carry 2 big baskets of fragile eggs on my hips  :s And all this extra estrogen I'm not used to made me crazy.

Retrieval was last week on Friday. I actually do remember being semi-awake, but very very high. Once they got me back to recovery and asked me how was it, my response was - "It was fun! You have good drugs!" :D

The good news - all those storied about constipation after retrieval did not apply to me.
The bad news - OHSS sucks. My ovaries are still "massively enlarged" and I still have liquid in my pelvic area, but I feel much much better now a week after retrieval and actually able to sleep at night now.

Even though I had a huge number of follicles, we only got 13 eggs retrieved/10 mature/7 fertilized. On Day 3 all 7 were still alive. On Day 5 it looked like 5 arrested and 2 still had hope to grow enough by Day 6. On Day 6 one perked back up and we got 3 'fair' quality hatching blastocysts that got biopsied and frozen - woot-woot!  :p

I'm now anxiously waiting for the genetic screening results, and looking forward for the next RE appointment in a few weeks to discuss FET timing/protocol.

For all of you who're in the stimm phase - grow, follies, grow!!!
For those who are waiting on how the embies are doing - hope they are dividing nicely and progressing into blastocysts successfully
And, for the most anxious tww'ers - eeeeeee! so exciting! fingers crossed!

  • @LoveDontCostAThing - yayy for two!!! FX that they're both burying in and getting nice and cozy!

@FuzzyDust - welcome! glad you're starting to feel better from the ohss. any tips on keeping it at bay? i have my ER tomorrow morning and they started me on cabergoline last night....oy!
  • @caseyw8784 - I did cabergoline for 8 days starting the retrieval day too. I think the main idea is to keep yourself hydrated on a cellular level. I read a lot of people recommend chugging gatorade, but I try to do the "no added sugar" diet, so I drink a lot of coconut water and watered-down cranberry juice. Also, eat lots of salty food - it causes your cells to hold on to water better. I had to pee every half an hour, but I was very religious about making sure the urine stays clear in color, and chugging more liquids if I notice any yellowing :)

Also, keep it easy if you end up with liquid in your pelvic area. As ovaries are enlarged after the cycle and if they're "floating" with little support, there is a risk of torsion (when ovaries twist and the blood flow is reduced).

Good luck with the ER tomorrow!!!

  • I had good news this morning when I did my ultrasound, looks like 4 mature eggs and 2 other possible. Doctor assured me that he would do everything he could to get the eggs out of the follicles for best chance of having eggs to fertilize. It's just risky only going in with a solid 3. RE set for Monday.

Now the bad, doctor just called and said my E2 dropped to 400. It was 1000 on Thursday. He said that basically means that egg or eggs are deteriorating. He's not sure if it's an indication of the smaller follicles or the stellar ones I have that are 20mm.

What pisses me off is that the doctors insisted on Thursday I go another day, then insisted Friday I go another day. I'm at day 14. My follies have not grown by leaps and bounds from 4 days ago so I kind of feel like they were being a little too concerned to get 17-18 mm follies to 20+ and not taking into account the risk. So, he said I can continue to ER on Monday like planned knowing the eggs may be dead or I can cancel. If I cancel, my treatment is done. I honestly could not take another stimulation cycle like this anyway.

We we decided to go ahead with ER. I'm not happy with situation but I have to see this through. Doctor said he had to tell me about E2 but in hindsight would have not tested again and would have triggered sooner. So he is fine with whatever decision I make.

  • @mandasand - so sorry to hear about your E2 dropping :( It sucks to know that out of your few follies, some will likely have eggs that are not good. Lots of virtual hugs and warm thought going your way. <3
I also triggered on Day 14, but even by then, the biggest follie was only about 18mm. In the end, all we can do is trust our REs on the protocol. They try their best, but it's such a sensitive and finicky science.

I haven't been on here for a few days- so much going on! GL to all!  :)

We went in for bloodwoork and ultrasound this morning. My estradiol went from 288 on Wed. to 1470 today. I have 20 follies under 10mm and 17 follicles between 10mm-13mm. They had me decrease my gonal-f from 112.5IU to 75IU and continue with 75IU menopur and .25mg cetrotide.

Any predictions on when trigger shot/ER will be? They haven't mentioned anything to me and I am really just trying to go with the flow but I am dying to know!  o:)

We go for another ultrasound Monday morning, with the time change I hope I don't fall asleep during my appt! :o

@caseyw8784  I've been on cabergoline since the beginning of my cycle because my prolactin levels were a little high, good to thing to know it helps with possible OHSS too!
  • @FuzzyDust and @caseyw8784 thank you for the support. I'm just going to pretend my E2 is at 1000 and f-it, everything is awesome. My doctor actually said he's just going to "put a thumb over today's E2" like it never happened. My husband said he was just trying to comfort me. I don't mean to be flippant about the money but I'm sort of sick of hearing "it's a risk and then you'll be out $4k" I don't care about money. I'm not trying to be insensitive to those that worry about money or those that have to pay so much more than I am. It's just money is not a factor in this particular decision. Now, if it was $30k, I may have a different attitude. I guess everyone has their threshold - no matter what is happening mine has not been reached yet. I'm positive and I've got this.

  • @QsMadd - i hope the ER today went smoothly and you got lots of mature eggs! can't wait to hear how you are doing/how it went!

AFM, had a little freak out this afternoon, when I realized that tonight is daylight savings time. i called my nurse to see if that was going to screw anything up with the timing, but she assured me that they had planned it ahead of time to include the extra hour. now that i think about it, my instructions did sound a bit weird, "trigger at 9 pm and arrive at 9 am on sunday for retrieval" (...cause all the others i've read on here were more like, "trigger at 9 pm and arrive at 8 am...")

Ready for tomorrow, but a little nervous...i hope they'll get many mature eggs, since i know i had quite a few smaller sized embryos, i hope that i didn't ovulate in advance and they won't find anything...things that are probably pretty common worries in ivf.

so yea, ER at 10 tomorrow, will try to update once home and not loopy from the anesthesia... Hope everyone has a good sunday!
  • @caseyw8784 keep us updated! So exciting!

  • @caseyw8784 you should be fine with the timing! DLS doesn't start until 2 am tomorrow so it's accounted for in the hours. I have to get up at 12:30 am Sunday to trigger (just 7 hours from now!!!). Then Monday I can't eat past 4:30 am so I'll have to get up at 4 am to eat, since my ER isn't until noon and I will be starving! I wish it was earlier since I'm worried about my eggies but I'm going to stay positive.

You'll do amazing!! I'm sure of it!

  • @mandasand  I'm sorry about your e2 egg status. This process can be so frustrating. I'm hoping that you have enough mature healthy eggs to make healthy embryos How come this is the last attempt for you?

AFM, my excitement about my ER tomorrow is gone. My REI confirmed that we didn't get as many follicles as she expected but it's an appropriate number given the antral follicle count at the baseline. I was fine with that. But then she also talked about the way my fibroids are and concern about transferring back embryos into my uterus if there are only a few embryos, possible freeze all and do another myomectomy, even planing for a possible gestational carrier in the future. I was taken totally off guard, and spent all of last night in despair.  We're leaning towards transferring 1 embryo next week and if it doesn't take, then have a myomectomy and try again at a transfer. I guess a lot will depend on the fertilization report and how the embryos grow, but my hope and excitement for this week is way way down.

  • Just wanted to stop by and say good luck to those that have retrieval tomorrow. Hope everything goes smoothly and they find lots of mature healthy eggs. FX they all fertilize well!

  • @SugarHead - I'm so sorry that you're feeling down! It's never a good feeling to have your hopes dashed. I hope your RE was just giving you the worst case scenario, and that tomorrow you'll get a good number of eggs that fertilize, and also that the fibroids issue will figure itself out! Good luck tomorrow!

@mandasand - thanks for cheering me on! That really sucks that your trigger is so late at night! Also, having to wake up so early to eat...I'm not sure that I would be able to fall back to sleep after that...nerves would be too high! I can't eat anything after midnight tonight...I'm trying to decide if I want to have a last minute snack or not, since i'll probably be hungry by 10 am. For me, though, the not drinking any water is gonna be the bigger issue...i ALWAYS have a glass or bottle of water with me cause i'm always thirsty! :anguished:

  • Got home a little bit from the ER. DH and I stopped at mcdonald's on our way home - we almost NEVER eat there, so it was a treat! The retrieval went smoothly, but i was pretty loopy for a while afterwards. Doctor mentioned something about 13 eggs - cannot remember if that was the total number, or the number of mature eggs. They had said they were expecting about 16 eggs, but i knew a lot of the follicles were on the smaller side, so i'm pretty happy with the 13 either way. we will get a fertilization report tomorrow, but then nothing until day 5 (waahhh!)

Not in much pain at the moment, just feels like kinda intense period cramps. The heating pad is my best friend at the moment, and DH is humoring me and let me watch "my" movies, like "Newsies" and stuff... Looking forward to lots of napping today and tomorrow...

I'm also hoping that since there are only 13 eggs, that along with the cabergoline means no ohss!!
  • Hi everyone! I'm new here. After 4+ years of ttc, we have finally decided to start IVF. I started Follistim and Menopur on Friday 3/10 and go in for a scan on Tuesday 2/14. I am so excited to be a part of this group!

I also wanted to let folks know about my experience purchasing meds. I was going to go through a local pharmacy, recommended by my clinic, but when I told them I had supplemental insurance that covers 80% they quoted me $7,500. I mentioned this to my nurse and she recommended an online pharmacy that charged 3,100. We got the meds quickly and you're assigned your own case manager for questions.

  • Hi Ladies! I lurked yesterday but didn't want to post from my phone so I waited until I got home from the hotel to post on my computer.

Got 21. BUT, only 7 mature. We are waiting to hear from them today to see how many fertilized.

I am happy with that number because we are doing a fresh cycle and we don't need a bunch left over. Considering we did a low dose cycle to start us off on this journey, I am just fine with 7.

Now I am terrified just waiting to see how many fertilized. I keep telling my husband I don't want to call them today but I would tomorrow if I didn't hear anything by 12.

I had a hell of a time yesterday. My stomach bloated right up and had terrible diaphragm pain from all the pressure. I was happy we stayed in the hotel instead of making the 1 hr trek back to the city. Good thing they prescribed me norco for the pain.

OH, and when I asked them for synera patches to be prescribed to me, they did it without hesitation and gave me 2 samples to start me off with tonight and tomorrow if I need them. My co-pay would only be 100$ for a 3 months supply.

I hope everyone is doing well and I cannot wait to read more updates!

  • I just heard from the embryologist.  They are freezing 5 blasts!  So I had 7 blasts total :)  I am much happier with this cycle results than my first IVF.  For my first IVF I had to freeze all embryos to have polyps removed and a laparoscopy.  They froze at 3 day and then unthawed for two FETs.  I don't think I even got any blasts...well, the first transfer was a 3 day, but the was a BFN.  I know they say thawing doesn't matter, but now I am wondering if it plays a factor.  When I asked the embryologist she said that thawing can make them grow "slower."

@caseyw8784 -yay!  13 is great!  now for the wait to hear about fertilization...keeping my FX

@caseyw8784 - Yay for being done with ER and for 13 eggs! FX for your fertilization report tomorrow!

@LoveDontCostAThing - Congrats on the transfer and yay for 5 frozen blasts!

@QsMadd - Hope you had good news with your report today!

I am nervously awaiting my day 5 report tomorrow. Yesterday the 12 that fertilized were still dividing but I know that a lot can arrest between days 3 and 5 so I am trying to keep myself busy and trying not to think about it. I actually had to work today which kind of helps!

    FET#1: July 2017- BFP!

  • Seems like lots of eggs were retrieved today for multiples ladies here :) Hope everyone is healing well, and fertilization goes well for many strong happy embryos!

@LoveDontCostAThing, I think most embryos that arrest do that around Day5, so if you freeze on Day3, it's harder to tell how many of good ones are in there.

@QsMadd, sorry to hear you got all bloated right way. I remember being 5 pounds up on the evening on the retrieval day from what I was that morning, and yes, the diaphragm pressure is the worst. Hope it'll go away soon. Be careful with the narcotics, as they might cause constipation, which sucks while already boated, so maybe supplement them with prune juice :)

  • @mtele -think positively!  we had similar numbers...I had 11 fertilize, and they all made it until day 5, but of course not all were blasts.  I ended up getting 7 blasts!  I just read your signature, and we are the same age and MFI.  I have a positive feeling for you :)
