Pregnancy hormones got the best of me on the weekend.. I heard about a dog rescue in my city that rescues strays/kill shelter dogs from Southern California and came across a photo of one of the dogs that looked so sad. I told my husband I really wanted to get him and he agreed (as long as he was good with kids and other pets). We have a 16 month old and having another baby soon but I just needed to take him home and give him love! We met him and picked him up on Sunday. He's doing pretty well for having been a stray dog and he's so sweet with my daughter.. but he's only 1 and is still a puppy so we're doing the potty training, training him not to chew on furniture etc. We live in a condo so this has been extremely stressful and difficult (didn't think this would be easy!) but it's so worth it to see how happy he gets when he does something right and gets rewarded for it! I think it's good for my daughter to get used to someone else being in the house other than myself or her dad too before baby comes and they love playing together! I'm just hoping he's trained by the time baby comes! Added pictures because he's so cute

My daughter didn't nap for the second day in a row at school and is currently passed out. She has been out since 5. I am crossing my fingers she just sleeps through the night but I have a terrible feeling she will be up and ready to go in an hour or so.

My lower back is done for. I've had moments off and on where I've moved too suddenly and tweaked my back, but it's now on another level. Yesterday afternoon the right side of my lower back became unable to handle any sort of pressure whatsoever so much so that I was limping. By the end of the day, the added pressure to my left side resulted in pain on the left side as well. I had to hold onto things for support as I hobbled around getting DD dinner, a bath, and to bed. I woke up feeling fine, but now my back is hurting again. I'm really hoping this isn't going to be a daily event.

@JessyKV I'm not sure I would use them at all, but I would definitely do a deep clean / strip on the lot if you decide to keep them. Instructions on fortheloveofclean.com

I can't find any research that says the smoke or carcinogens cannot be sanitized out of clothes. They were sealed in a tote but still obviously smell. I'm going to wash like normal and try a vinegar rinse first. They will probably be washed multiple times. I'll keep researching and ask our Ped's opinion but I just can't imagine I can't wash out any toxins. I would be so sad to throw out a whole wardrobe for the baby . But obviously I care about safety first. I wish I wouldn't have left clothes at my moms!

@JessyKV my clothes came clean after one cycle in the wash from being at my moms house. I washed them on hot with two tide pods and extra fabric softener. She smokes too.

@JessyKV I checked my fb cleaning group and they should be fine. I would still strip to get rid of anything you can't smell though!

How cute! @momma2char they will have a great relationship too! We had a stray puppy show up when dd was 2 and they love each other so much! And we have so many cute pictures of baby/puppy cuddles.

Has anyone seen a chiropractor for lower back pain or sciatica? I am going to ask my OB tomorrow, but I think I need to see one. I've never been to a chiropractor before but this pain that goes from my hip to my knee every time I lift my left leg is terrible.

@meg2704 I saw my chiropractor for sciatica pain a few weeks ago. If you think you need the help then go sooner rather than later because she told me that after a certain point there's not much anyone else can do because you can't be laying on your belly and having pressure put on your back or it's not good for baby. She did have a "donut" pillow that will help support the belly somewhat, but after a certain size it starts to become more problematic.

My chiropractor is a little different than most that I've heard of, she's got a very holistic mindset and her aim is that patients require her help as little as possible, so she spent a lot of time (painfully) massaging some muscles in my butt that were really tight and apparently running right alongside the sciatic nerve. Then she gave me a list of stretches to do everyday to keep the muscles loose and sent me on my way.

@meg2704 I had never seen a chiropractor until my 1st pregnancy... she saved me, I was in sooo much pain before seeing her. You want one that will legit adjust you though... best would be drop table with belly pillow (s) AND side adjustment. I just went yesterday and my sacrum and transition point (center back where I break posture as well as have added pressure for growing breasts/belly) is feeling so much better!

All I can say is... DO IT!

Ladies question for you. I called today to try and make an appointment with the pediatrician we've chosen for Adeline, however she's out on maternity leave and to call back and make an appointment when the baby is actually born. Does this sound right? I thought you could get everything set up prior to having your child so that all you had to do was just call to make an appointment. They also said they had to have a referral from my insurance for the baby to them? That just sounds strange to me. Adeline will be insured twice, her primary will be my husbands insurance and secondary will be Tricare. Can someone explain how all of this works with getting her a doctor. I don't really know because I've been in the military my entire adult life and have always had military healthcare. Given Adeline's issues I really wanted to be into a practice before she was born and have all of her records to them by the time she's born. She has to have an immediate MRI once she is born so I'm just trying to prepare early.

@Wearmi1 this sounds wrong to me too. We met with the pediatrician for a prenatal consultation (meet and greet, we asked interview questions, she took family history and asked about any known issues for baby). We use a birth center so we needed DS to be seen in the first 24 hours and for her to agree the risk was low enough to go that route. But in the case of hospital birth our pediatrician would have been the one to sign his discharge (hospital rights).

@Wearmi1 That sounds pretty standard to me. Usually you just let the hospital know and they get the doc in there to see the baby and then a follow up in-office appt is made.

Im not sure the protocol when issues are a concern, I'm guessing you brought that up?

@Wearmi1 I didn't meet DS' chosen pediatrician until he came to do the hospital checkup (my choice, I could have done an interview but opted not to). His first appointment was scheduled after he was born, and all medical paperwork was sent to the pediatrician through the hospital, including insurance info. I didn't have to do any of that.

@Wearmi1 we pre-registered with my pediatrician but didn't make the actual appointment until he was born. They have slots saved for newborn appointments so you can make the appointments and get in right away.

It is SO HOT in my classroom/school that I feel nauseous and have a headache... Probably because it has been in the 70s in February. They won't turn on the air until April or May... I'm never gonna make it. I am already dying!!!

@Wearmi1 we went to my nephews' pedi because my sil liked her. She didn't go to our hospital because they weren't in her network or something. We did do a meet and greet before that was pretty quick. I had a special maternity insurance so the baby stayed on it till she was 6 weeks and then switched to her own, so i believe at the meet and greet they put my insurance card on file.
We have actually have had terrible dr luck with dd though. We started off with that one just based on one good review, but she was very nit picky which was bad for a first time worrying mom. Every well check up they found something "wrong" with her. (Dr was way over cautious about everything, dd is fine) so we then switched to one of her partners who was pretty good and we were happy, then she moved to Seattle. So we have been kind of in between ever since because every good dr in our area is full. Sorry for the ramble.
Anyway, this time I'm taking the interview process really serious because around here you are pretty much stuck with your first dr because they only take newborns and siblings. I don't care so much that they can come to my hospital, but if I knew there were going to be concerns with the baby I would because the dr should know what's going on. I suggest really interviewing a few Drs because they will be a big part of your life for a while and they need to take your baby seriously.

I went to meet-and-greet sessions with two different peds groups that were recommended to me and then the one I picked we just called when the baby was born and made our 4 day appointment at that time. The practice we went with doesn't work with the hospital I deliver at, so we just used the in-house hospital doctor while we were there, and it was no problem. I think this routine is pretty normal.

I have a student who clears his throat 5 million times a class period. I cannot stand it. I have sent him out for water and it does nothing. I am not sure if it is just a noise he likes or what, but I am going to lose my mind. It is one of those things that just gets under my skin. That and the constant sniffling and loud breathing. Apparently I am a raging bitch today.

@FSUNole31 My husband does the "clearing the throat" sound a million times on the phone... he doesn't do it in person, just the phone... IT. DRIVES. ME. BONKERS. There have been several times I just had to get off the phone with him because I couldn't stand it anymore.

@meg2704 I've been going to the chiropractor every week or every other week this pregnancy. It's been so helpful! I'm not sure why I didn't go with my other two! Mine specializes in pregnancy and kids. Her table drops so there is room for my belly. She does my back, neck, side lying. She adjusted my tailbone today with some tool since I fell on the stairs. I highly recommend going! I'm also hoping it keeps baby in the right position to make labor and delivery easier.

Thanks ladies for all of your input regarding pediatricians. The one we chose is part of a large network of providers that is also a part of the hospital we're delivering at. I'm not gonna lie we chose our doctor based on her education. She's completed all of her schooling through University of Washington and all of her secondary training up through a completed chief residency at Seattle Children's Hospital. She also has hospital rights at Children's. We figured since she's well connected with Children's she would be able to work closely with the neurosurgeon at Children's who wants to follow Adeline for her first 3 years of life for any issues with her brain. Hopefully we made the right choice. We need a doctor with some really specialized training to care for Adeline and who will watch closely for missed milestones and things like that.

EmeraldNC The air conditioner for just my hallway was broken at the beginning of the year. They didn't fix it so we were sweating through August and September. I saw a team working on it today. My prayers have been answered! They won't turn it on until it is super hot, but it gives me hope that I won't be sweating it in June when I am 9 months. I already warned others we will be camping out in their rooms to steal the AC

@FSUNole31 I had a sailor who worked for me and she did the same thing. Always clearing her throat. She'd been to several doctors. Nothing wrong with her. It was a nervous tick. It got worse the more stress she was under.

@Wearmi1 and @doodleoodle he just started doing it a few weeks ago. I have had him since August and nothing until recently. I think it is just a noise he seems to enjoy making. Lucky me.
