@livin541 I would recommend the Nikon D5200. It's not too expensive and it's great for a beginner. Has enough focus points and a nice ISO range. Your shutter speed will be determined by these settings and it will have more than enough. I also reccomend looking at your camera budget and factoring in a prime lens such as a 50mm. It's a great universal lens and is my go to for most pictures. A nice camera is good to have because it will take better quality pictures than your phone and they will show size better.
@kns1988 goos luck! We're buying a house too, but are at the end of the process and let me tell you, it sure has been a process! Buying a house is stressful as is but adding being pregnant as well and it's like 10x more! Hang in there! Our contract has changed quite a few times due to miscommunication and the appraisal came back less than the selling price we were in contract for. Which made everything hectic again because we had raises the price for them to cover our closing costs but since we had to go back down they didn't want to, but we worked some stuff out and don't have to pay the full amount. If we did we would walk away because we just don't have it. Our loan is in the underwriting review right now and I think we should hear back Monday or Tuesday and close the 28th. Sorry long story and that's actually the condensed version!
keeping my fingers crossed for you! Is that what the FX is by the way? Lol

@hp_momma, at least you only have an "army closet". We have an "army room", which will be the baby's room. I'm getting serious anxiety over finding a new place for all the army issued stuff.
BabyMC517, good luck in closing! The back and forth is killer.
We came to an agreement with the sellers and I think it's done! Just gotta get the paperwork back to them and have them sign off. What a day. They also agreed to 60 days instead of 90, which means we'd still have a month before baby comes.
On an unrelated note, I keep creeping on the July BMB and holy crap do they have a lot of drama. You can count on almost every post to turn into a thing. It's entertaining as an observer, but there's no way I'd participate in that nonsense.

Ugh. Us too. It was a closet and it has sprawled into a room. The annoying part is his job doesn't entail needing gear and going into the field and whatnot. I have no idea how he has so much crap! It doesn't help that he can call it pro gear so I can't purge and say it's to stay under our weight limit for the next move!
@Jkp7749 fingers crossed it doesn't happen again. I would be worried too not knowing exactly what happened. And I can't remember if I mentioned it in the nursery thread, but your paintings are so cute!
@mrsrep123 sundaes were awesome! They also had chicken wings and these amazing little pizza egg rolls that I love.
I second what @achays11 says about costco prints. I took a few DSLR classes at the University with a few of my coworkers. During our portrait photography class our instructor encouraged us to get our final photos printed at a few different places to see the difference in quality. The Costco prints were the cheapest, and no one could tell the difference between them and the pics printed at the local high-end printing place.
@kns1988 I'm so glad everything worked out with the house!
I'm so exhausted from last night I had a four hour nap this afternoon.
We just spent the weekend at my parents' house. It was fun, but the kids didn't sleep well at all all weekend, so they were a little cranky/crazy this afternoon! I just read this whole thread, and now I feel like a creeper just "loving" people's posts and not responding to everyone. But I can't remember who said what and I'm exhausted. So- congrats to the house buyers!! Yay for cleaning!!
Camera wise- I'm a photographer and I love my Pentax DSLR. The image stabilization in the Pentax cameras is in the camera in stead of the lens, so you can use old lenses from film cameras, which are often much cheaper, and can be very high quality. If you're not a photographer, and don't have an interest in learning how to use all the functions of your camera- you may not need a DSLR. It's like, yes a race car is probably a better car than my little Nissan. But I would never go that fast, so for me the car I have actually works better for what I want. If you're just going to leave your DSLR in automatic mode and not ever switch out the lenses or use most of the features of the camera, you probably don't need one. A simple point and shoot camera or iPhone camera may be all that you need. I honestly take most of the pictures of my girls with my iPhone, just of everyday life. People are constantly asking what camera I use because they like my photos so much. (And yes, I realize I totally sound like I'm bragging. Sorry.). It's not always what camera you have, it's how you use it. In everyday life it's easier to snap a shot of your little one with a phone camera. I pull out my DSLR with the girls once every couple of months and take a ton of photos, but day to day it's really not as practical to carry around and try to capture candid moments with. And, that was really long, and I'm too tired to try to make it shorter, sorry!
All NBR weekend. Ran errands,!enjoyed the unseasonably warm weather, took DD on a dozen walks. For the first time in what seems like weeks, I have not had a single BH today.

@kns1988, I had to go check it out. The vibe there is rough. It's entertaining, but it must be hard to connect with other women there. I like reading the snark, but I'm glad it's kept to a minimum here.

Congrats to the house buyers! That is a hard, nerve wracking process.
@CherryBananas Pizza egg rolls?! That sounds like awesome drunk (or pregnant) food!
All you nesting ladies inspired me! I organized the bathroom vanity and hallway linen closet. After a week of everyone being sick and trying to find meds in that disorganized mess I wanted to light it on fire. So much better now!! We also picked up DS' new twin bed and put it together. And I found a vintage mid century modern dresser today to refurbish for his big boy room!! It needs some love, but it's got great lines. So pumped to start working on it!
We got the bed done and put together. Despite my dreams of cute PBK or Pillowfort bedding, DD insisted on her current obsession - Trolls. I painted an old headboard. The fabric portion can be easily swapped out.
AW: today we went to our local antique shop and found such awesome finds! This chair, a dresser, large bench seating and new kitchen table, all in excellent condition and very affordable. The owner even delivered it for $15 for everything. Happy camper right here. Now people actually have a place to sit when they come visit!
@clebl24 and @WombThereItIs Oh don't worry, the Army also threw up all over my basement! He's at almost 10 year in so the amount of stuff he has accumulated is ridiculous. The "army closet" is just his current uniforms, ASUs, and PTs. The rest of his gear is shoved in the basement!

Haha DH has been out for 10 years and I've been out for 14 years and we could probably operate a CIF out of our garage!!

@rkstro2@Squirtgun@SWE2 thank you all for the info about your camera preferences! I really appreciate it!
I think I would like to learn enough to become decent with different lenses, but I know there is so much that goes into capturing beautiful photos. I think it would be worth the investment, although I do have a couple apps for my iPhone that I love for quick shots. I agree about the convenience of having the phone right there most of the time. And we always use costco for photo processing too!
