  • @merrylea I could eat those little mandarin orange Cuties until I'm stuffed.  So good!

  • I hate mealtime with my 5 year old.  It is like ritualistic torture.  Every night is a fight to eat.  Tonight I specifically made him what he asked for and I'm STILL fighting with him.  I am so sick of his 5 year old attitude.

TMI alert...I am so constipated that I ate a jar of prune baby food, and still nothing! Also, my nausea is back (It was back before the prunes). I feel like my body is betraying me.
  • @awillis13 my 4 year old about did me in today with his attitude about everything!  Some days these kids are just lucky they have their moments of super cuteness.

  • My mom gave me homemade blueberry coffee cake when I picked up my dogs from her house and I am seriously considering having that and hot choclate for dinner.

  • @FSUNole31 I was "really, really, really hurting his feelings" because I was making him eat, and wouldn't let him watch Lego movie while eating dinner.  And then when he refused to eat so I sent him to bed, he told me he was going to trash the house, knock down the shelves, throw his toys everywhere.  So I calmly reminded him if he can't treat his things nicely he won't have them.  Then he threatened to run away.

I regret introducing him to Home Alone this Christmas.  A lot of the naughty things he says to us come from that movie.

    I fully support this!
  • I want blueberry coffee cake!
  • We got around 4 inches of snow today in CT. Of course DH is is traveling for work so the driveway is a mess. I am definitely not going out there to shovel by my self and risk falling and I have never used our snow blower. Thank goodness one of DH's buddies is going to come by with a plow. It's tough not being able to do things!
  • @graceriesz we're at 2-3" and DH is working late tonight.  I *should* be nice and go out and shovel, but I also don't want to slip and fall.  But I'm sure he didn't bring snow boots with him, so I should go be nice....

  • @awillis13 I normally wouldn't think twice and would go out there. But i'm already exhausted, our driveway isn't flat at all, and I am feeling extremely pregnant these days. I say it's not worth the risk - the snow will be there when your DH get's home :)

  • @awillis13 oh my gosh, as much as the threats suck, I am so happy to hear he does that crap too!  My son all of a sudden does that nonsense too.  Today we heard he was going to throw his robot out of the car window because he kept dropping the pieces that go with it and I stopped giving it back or he will do this well I will hit you or kick you if you don't do whatever the random demand is at the moment.  So frustrating.

  • If I were to get a travel system stroller, does that then mean that once baby is past the size to be in the infant car seat I would need a separate toddler/child car seat?

DH and I are just starting researching products and have decided we want as many multi-purpose items as possible, the first being a travel system stroller. But we were also sold on the idea of a car seat that would adjust from infant up to child. So far it seems all travel systems only have car seats suitable for infants and not any larger. Is that just a thing that's universal? Totally fine if it is, I guess I'm just wondering if there's some magical travel system that also includes a car seat that would be suitable all the way up to "child".
  • @kassyfry glad to hear you like the house, I'm sure it will be somewhat stressful but so worth it once y'all make it happen.
  • @CapricaAndrea, the travel system works with the infant base and then as a stand alone stroller, you would need a convertible seat once LO exceeds the height/weight of an infant seat.

You do not need a bucket/infant seat at all, so long as your convertible seat is specifically once for infants also.

We buy the infant seat for convenience sake, carry in and out of stores, etc., but many moms here don't.

I think the premise of the travel system is to allow the infant seat to go from the car to the stroller, because the detachable base remains in the car.  Convertible seats remain in the car, therefore, I'm pretty sure there are none that work with a travel system.
  • @JAGinMI, I feel you too. We haven't been on vacation anywhere aside from visiting family (which is no vacation!) in 6 years. There just never seems to be the extra money...something always comes up and eats our savings. I need to work on this. I hope you can find a good deal and get there!

@JAGinMI It helps that we live in Orlando. We typically go for the morning and leave by lunch. Grab a case of water to toss in the stroller before going in and we don't buy anything except snacks and the occasional and rare souvenir. Our annual passes are $50/month for my husband and I. My son is still under 3 and goes for free.

@Stankonia2014, I've also been avoiding social media. I'm just so done with it all. This weekend was emotional for us (my dad is a legal permanent resident) and it hit us all deep in our souls.

    Edit: posted too soon
  • @kassyfry my DH is the same. Without fail, everytime I'm pregnant we move.
  • @Stankonia2014 and @Mother0fDragons I just deactivated my Facebook. No good was coming from it these days- just a lot of distraction and anxiety.

I deactivated last Friday. The negativity was starting to really eat at me and affect my overall attitude. Who knew there would come a day where we'd all miss crappy food pictures and gym selfies on Facebook?!

  • @CapricaAndrea if you are looking for a seat that lasts from birth to child check out the graco 4-ever. It has good safety ratings and reviews. My cousin got one for her dd and likes it. She is still able to rear face at 2. The only down side to this is it won't be able to strap into the stroller, it stays in the car. But you could use a baby carrier while baby is little and then get a stroller. Most travel systems are bulky anyway.
  • Oh wow... I go off social media for a couple days and I missed SO much here!!

Work has been insane and I think it will get worse before we get relief. The Powers That Be decided we need to add about 50 more sales positions to our location (on top of our normal hiring) over the next 6 weeks. The only way to make that happen is to double our class count. The only way to double our class count is to fly 5 instructors from our other location for two weeks apiece. Has anyone looked at this cost yet?!?! Andplusalso I have to go back into the classroom full time for the next 6 weeks. UGH UGH UGH
I'm sure that makes little to no sense to anyone but it feels better to get it off my chest.

  • Beware... I'm behind and catching up. This may get long. Haha.

@michaela0704 We went last year when DD was in Pre K. She missed 5 days total. Her teacher was amazing. We told her in advance so she gave us a few papers they would be doing. And told us to have fun. She's a mom and said "they are only young once, these memories last forever!" Totally worth missing some school time.

@awillis13 YES my 5 year old is horrible. All she wants is freaking cheese sandwiches. She has chronic constipation and isn't supposed to eat lots of dairy. So it's a constant fight.

@LAMCH1980 our trip to Disney last spring was our first vacation not back to see family in 9 years! We kept getting the guilt trip anytime we even mentioned going somewhere instead of going to NY. We finally told them they can come to us from now on. We are only going back every couple years, if they miss the girls that bad they can make the trip.

I have also taken a break from Facebook. I just can't handle the stupidity and hate. So more time to Bump right??

Also any 2+ time moms who have to re-buy some gear debating if you want to get the same things you got before or different things? (Haven't had my coffee.. let me explain haha). We have always had a travel system. But everything expires before Josephine will get here. I plan on baby wearing so should we just get a convertible seat?? But 1.what if she hates being worn? 2. We live in Georgia, it's freaking hot, I might not always want her on me. It's stressing me out. I just hit halfway and the only things we have bought are some clothes. Blah tell me I'm not the only one feeling the need to buy things!!

Mom to Madison- 5 and Lillian 2....and now surprise baby #3!
  • I was getting up to go check on my new c section patient and I got what I'm assuming is sciatic nerve pain down my leg so bad that I fell straight on my butt, lol. I didn't deal with it last time but it is no joke!
  • @awoodruff27 I'm with you on the 'buy all the things!' feeling. FTM and I have nothing done. I've been gifted a few things - new breast pump, hospital style bassinet, swaddling blankets - but really feeling unprepared and the pressure to buy things is real.

  • @awoodruff27 I have an infant carrier car seat that expires in December... so even though I used them until ~ 12 months with my boys I just plan to get the convertible seat once the infant carrier expires and hope this LO is ready for the change.  I just remember all the times that my boys would be sleeping after a ride and having the carrier vs. having to take them out/wear them was so much easier.  As I had twins, and our carriers were super heavy, there were a few times where I opted to wear them in vs. carry them in their seats but it was extremely time consuming to do in a parking lot on the way and the way out compared to just clicking them out and going (esp. when it was raining/cold as mine were winter babies).
  • Paging @sls ... just wanted to check in and make sure you're doing alright!  I knew you were going back in for an a/s due to that one office u/s tech being lame... hope all is well!
  • @huskermom14, ouch!

Question for a PP nurse: do you (not necessarily you, but you nurses) judge mothers who send their baby to the nursery for rest?
  • @Stankonia2014 I am curious about that too. My husband recently asked me if I will get to sleep after delivery and he was surprised to hear that a lot of hospitals don't even have nurseries anymore.

I have a question about classes. Did any of you take a breastfeeding class? I have a few classes that both of us will take (prepared childbirth, infant care basics, CPR), but my husband is super busy studying for his CPA as much as possible outside of work hours, so I just wanted opinions. Is the breastfeeding class something that he should be at too? Or can I tackle that one on my own?
  • @MKRLTX my personal opinion on that one is that every woman is different... my experience was that most postpartum nurses were excellent in not only encouraging breastfeeding but helping/sharing their personal experience... also, most hospitals having lactation consultants that stop by to help as well - I didn't even have to ask, she just showed up a few hours after I delivered.  FTR I took a class, but it was a waste of time and money... I learned everything that I really needed on the fly.
  • @MKRLTX, I agree with @michaela0704, the LC and nurses at the hospital were invaluable. There's also an LC in our pedi's office that was available, but I really learned the most at the hospital and as I went.

  • @awoodruff27 we didn't like our swing for DS, so we sold it and are in need of a new one. I think that's all we are trading out.

@MKRLTX I didn't take the class, but it would definitely be of value and not a waste of time. Breastfeeding can be REALLY hard. The LC at our hospital and the LC at my pediatricians office were like saints to me. So helpful. Use them!!

Our hospital doesn't offer a nursery anymore either, however, I would not have used it. I couldn't let him out of my sight and when he was taken back very briefly for an *attempted* circumcision, I was a mess. Just my experience. (And I was recovering from a c section). I can see why some women want it or use it though, especially if they don't have much support. There are amazing nurses out there that I'm sure will snuggle your baby up if they have time and you need rest though!

  • @devow27, I have never used it, I'm honestly not sure if mine still has one either. I know there used to be a specified nap time, but I think that just meant no visitors.

I just know know that my girls will be home for the summer and I don't have anyone who will come stay with them at home while DH comes up, so I thought it might be wise to try to take advantage.  Last time my nurse let me sleep with DD on me or next to me, but I'm not sure they'll be as willing this time.

I don't know that I'd use it this time either, but I was curious if they have a nursery, if nurses did judge parents that sent kiddos to the nursery.
