Re: A Big Thread for Dumb Questions

  • @CarsonsMommy @AdaByron @kerils Thanks for the feedback!  Babies definitely throw up a lot, haha, you can't have too many onesies and burp cloths, good point.

  • Dumb question of the day 1: This is slightly gross, just fair warning. I have fully truly thrown up once this pregnancy a number of weeks ago. It happened to be in the morning, and I was still having pretty regular m/s. I had eaten a bagel with hummus and a glass of OJ, and it did not taste good coming back up. I haven't been able to eat any of those things since then (which is more a mental thing than an actual aversion). The hummus may actually have been the culprit (when I had eaten hummus a couple weeks before that I felt awful). Hummus I'm still pretty much avoiding although I miss that like crazy too, but because it made me feel like garbage before I'm still keeping it on the no go list.  But I really want to be able to eat the bagels (really high in protein) and the OJ (calcium fortified) again. This is really a dumb question, but should it be safe to try those two again?

Dumb Question 2: Slightly TMI. Since I got my bump, my husband thinks it's the coolest thing ever, but last night we were talking and we're both kind of freaked out about sex. I know it doesn't hurt the baby, but I can see that he's there, and in between us, and it's wigging us out. I want to keep having sex with DH because I know it keeps those muscles going, is good for both of us, and potentially makes the baby feel good too. Any advice on how to get over this? Anyone else gone/going through something similar?

  • @kerils If you buy fresh bagels and OJ, I don't see why there would be any reason for concern.

It is extremely common to have that concern about sex. I think it came up approximately 7485735 times in my pregnancy newsletters last time. Google "sex while pregnant" and some good tips show up. If you don't want to see your belly, try a position where he's behind you.
I always love Pregnant Chicken and her piece on this is great: https://pregnantchicken.com/is-sex-during-pregnancy-safe/
  • @kerils maybe it's the combo that's making you sick.
The only time I threw up was after a green juice and food. I personally don't like drinking juice with food it makes me feel nauseous so you never know!

  • @BusyZee It only made me sick once, I think it was because I didn't feel that great to begin with and they weren't the most stomach easing foods. I think I'm going to retry the bagels this weekend... they're so bland anyways I would be shocked if they bothered me. I've just heard that during pregnancy sometimes there is food that you just can't stomach that you used to love, and I was hoping this stuff wasn't it.

  • @kerils - I went through a phase where I wanted OJ right when I woke up every morning bc I was so hungry and it helped spike my blood sugar and keep me from getting sick. Well then I drank it one night in the middle of the night when I woke up and I got sooo sick from it. That was probably 6 weeks ago and I haven't drank it since. It might just have become to acidic for you. I would guess the bagelcis fine so maybe try that and then the OJ at a different time so see how you handle them separately. But I would only drink a very little bit of OJ and slowly just to see how it goes.
  • @theweevee I personally have never liked the fruit/vegetable related to baby size. Baby2see and yourduedate are my favorite sites on information.

I have a dumb question.  Are those "baby is the size of estimates" just length and not width?  Or just really large exaggerations?  I'm 18 weeks today and apparently the baby is the size of a sweet potato?  What?  Where is he?  Because there certainly does not appear to be a sweet potato hiding in my abdomen.
I have the exact opposite question. I'm 14 weeks and baby is the size of a peach but my stomach is popped out so far and so hard I'm like - if baby is still tiny and small, what the hell is going on with the rest of this belly??

@theweevee I have the same issue- I'm a FTM at 16 weeks. I'm short and relatively petite and feel like I don't have a bump at all. My stomach is hard but that's about it. I keep freaking myself out that the baby isn't growing properly even though it had normal measurements at all my ultrasounds.
  • @theweevee @oheliza44 You're good.  Go check out the HBDB threads in June. They're all different sizes there, too.  So of us have bigger bumps than some of them, and some of them still won't post because they don't have bumps yet.  Everyone is different.  I had NO bump with my first until 18 weeks and then *BAM!*  This time it's coming faster.
  • @chiquita928 thanks for the reassurance. :)

@chiquita928. Thanks!  @oheliza44. Yup, unless it's the evening bloat there's nothing much there.  That's why I was wondering if the fruit/vegetables were just fictional motivation.  It's just hard for me to believe something that big is in there.  Maybe sweet potatoes are smaller in other places than they are here in California.

@satsumasandlemons. Maybe your baby is lying perpendicular faster than @Xath's graphic.   ;)
  • Oh, no, @theweevee , there's way more sticking out than even a perpendicularly positioned peach size fetus, that's for sure! They are not kidding about the second pregnancy.
  • @Xath that video graphic is awesome!
