@leilac The tummy sleeping/back sleeping is so hard. I was adamant about DS sleeping on his back since that's what is recommended (and I am terrified of SIDS). However, he was a terrible sleeper and my pediatrician recommended I put him on his tummy around 4 months and he instantly slept better (although I got zero sleep those first few weeks simply because I would just watch him sleep to make sure he wasn't smothering himself). I think it's the first 6 months where the risk for SIDS is at its highest and is recommended to put them on their backs.
As as far as suncscreen goes, I believe it's also 6 months. Kind of tricky with a July due date!! My DS was born at the end of May and we put him in a lot of hats and got him a few rash guard type tops to cover him up. We live close to the beach and go a ton in the summer, so I bought a pop up shade similar to this one to keep him out of the sun. Never had a sunburn issue!
Thanks so much @caribbeanmama! I know I read a bunch of posts about double strollers but missed everything else. I'll definitely search for that thread. Sorry to duplicate, ladies!
This may have already been asked but I didn't see it anywhere: I've started to get uncomfortable sleeping. I'm typically a belly sleeper, but when my boobs were so sore, I slept on my back. Now, knowing that as the pregnancy progresses, you shouldn't sleep/lie on your back for long periods, I've taken to sleeping on my side and I just can't get comfortable. STM+ have any tips/tricks to get a good nights sleep? And is it safe to sleep on your back if you use a wedge?
I'm trying to buy a double stroller that will be compatible with my britax car seat. It's so challenging. Anyone have any resources on how to find strollers that have adapters? I feel like I'm digging hard and can't find anything!
I've never seen a list of all doubles that work but from my own research I can tell you that the Britax B-Ready will work with the car seat, no adapter necessary. With an adapter, you can get the City Select or the Uppa Baby Vista. The Phil and Teds doubles don't play nice with Britax. I also have have the Britax car seat and I think I'm going with the double BOB. Lucie's List has a great list of double strollers that might give more info!
For sunscreen: The bottles will be labeled as "for children over 6 months" but that's only because it's hard/expensive for a company to get a product approved for infants. Some products are better than others for babies depending on their ingredients, but I don't remember the details about that right now. Basically, as a parent you need to use your own discretion when it comes to sun protection. If you have to be outside, and covering up/finding shade isn't working, sunblock is better than a sunburn no matter what. When DS was little, I would put sunblock on his arms and legs, and use a hat to shield his face.

Hey! I just couldn't remember if there were answers to your question there - wasn't trying to push your question out of this thread. I looked for the STM baby gear thread and it degenerated into baby bag recommendations not strollers boo. I think the stroller/baby gear thread I am thinking of is in June17.
@dancegurl1118 have you taken your car seat into a bru or bbb? Then you could try the car seat in the stroller and also test the stroller to see if you like it.
@leilac I'm super relaxed so as soon as ds started rolling over I let him sleep on his tummy. I would put him to sleep on his back and in the morning he would be on his tummy. This happened after I knew he could hold his head up and turn his head which is also why I felt comfortable. During the time when he started to roll over someone pointed out to be that there's nothing else in the crib and the sheet is tight so unless his face is stuck down (which I didn't worry about) he will be ok. Unfortunately you might need to wait and see how your own comfort level is as a mom if it's your first.
Sunscreen- someone can chime in to my idea if it might not work but I've found some spf clothing for baby to wear. Plus I'll try to keep baby in the shade. I also Baby ware with a big brimmed hat that helps to block ds's head.
@oheliza44 We had a travel system with DS1 and it was really so bulky and burdensome we never used it. It took up the entire trunk. I ended up replacing it with a Britax B-Agile down the line. It was much more compact, had a great recline for newborns, could be folded one-handed, and had an adaptor for our Chicco seat. We still use it. I found (after trial and error) that I prefer 3-wheel strollers because they're more maneuverable.
@dancegurl1118 Have you looked at the Britax B-Ready? I like that it's a double-decker instead of a side-by-side so it's still easy to get through doors. You can put baby in the bottom; this way your toddler still gets a good view and fewer people touch your baby.
I agree with @morgarita SPF clothing is much easier to use with babies even once they're old enough to wear sunscreen. I find that the more SPF clothing they wear, the less I have to fight them with sunscreen and the more we all enjoy being outside.
Check wash-cycles with any SPF clothing you buy. Many are only good for a certain number of washes before they lose their protective qualities.

My doctor said sleep HOWEVER you are comfortable, and not to stress if you wake up and find that you were sleeping on your back. I'm usually a side sleeper, and when pregnant, I sleep on my side with a pillow between my thighs. But if I'm comfortable on my back, I sleep on my back. Don't sweat it, sleep how you're comfortable.

I agree 100% with this. A little sunblock is better than a sunburn. We live in southern CA by the beach, we're in the sun a lot. Baby wears hats no problem, thank goodness. But I still put a little sunblock on her when we're out there for long periods of time.
@leilac They say to put them in on their backs with nothing else in the crib until 1 year. That said, a lot of babies will roll over on their own. That's ok as long as they are capable of lifting their head and rolling. This is why you put nothing else in the crib.
I have the whitest white boy you can find, shy of albino, and we found excellent long sleeved rash guards and white brimmed hats that are spf. I also found (once) a rash guard with a hood. Best thing ever. But it was so crazy that first summer that we didn't really have the energy to take him out more than just having him in the stroller with the shade up.
Does anyone have the Pockit stroller? Or advice? I take DS to daycare - it's two subway stops (with no elevator on either end) and a 7 minute walk between the subway and his daycare. I was using the Ergo just fine but my sciatica is getting too bad. This is why I am thinking of the Pockit stroller (and we will just wear the new baby). Any other ideas?
We have the Britax B-Ready and we used it well in stores, airports, walks outside, mall shopping, really everything. The back wheels can be a little big, but no major issues. We have the components necessary to turn it into a double and intend to.
So after researching it seems like the B-ready will be the best option for us. With the second seat it's going to be upwards of $700.
We'd have to put DD in the front seat though because the second seat max is 36" and she is tall for her age, and was 33.5" 2 months ago. So I think then we need an attachment for the infant seat to go on the bottom.
Ugh. $700. It honestly did not even cross my mind when looking for a first stroller about conversion to a double. Wish it would've since we have the britax infant seat!

Speaking of car seats- when did you move your child to a harnessed booster? I know two separate families that they're 5 year old is in a booster but I saw a picture recently of one of the 5 yr olds in a NON-harnessed booster and she was bent over sleeping. So I'm just curious if by that age they could be in a harnessed booster or still a car seat? Ik the limits on one of our car seats could still fit her size, in case our son still needs a full car seat at that age.
Sorry I'm a planner and I have think about purchases for a while so I want to be prepared as to when I should start looking.

I refuse to move my son until he outgrows the height/weight limits. He was rear-facing until he turned 3, and I won't be moving him to a booster for a while.
ETA I think the child's size is more of a factor than his or her age, though.
@morgarita are you asking about a five point harness booster? My kid is 5.5 and she's still in a five point harness booster which means it's got a back. (Diono radian and harmony defender) Next when she's taller (I don't know, maybe 6 or 6.5?) we may switch from the harness option to the seatbelt option (same diono and harmony). After that, we go to a backless booster (same diono and radian) I would think that happens around 8? I don't know. I'm not a car seat expert but I basically follow my car seat fanatics' advice when it comes to these things. These car seats will probably last the longest for us, so definitely an investment! I personally love the diono because it's so compact and skinny but my daughter prefers the harmony defender and says it's more comfy.
Basically, that 5 year old should NOT be slumped over or bent over sleeping.
@satsumasandlemons yes when did you put your daughter in a 5 point booster? At about what size/age? Ultimately I would love it if I could put my ds when he's 3 1/2 in a 5 point booster rather than buying another set of car seats. I was referencing the slumped over sleeping bc I was also curious if the 5 point booster would be to young or not for that age. Sorry I even confused myself.

I should also add that our pedi told us right away it's ok to use sunscreen. She gave us a list of what to look for in the ingredients. DS was born at the end of May, so that whole first summer he was under 6 months. In the beginning it was easy to just shield him from the sun, but by the end of the summer he was a little more active and we wanted to be outside and see what he thought of the baby pool, and even in the Ergo his little legs would be hanging out. I would not hesitate to put sunblock on any skin that I was having trouble keeping covered. The pediatrician just recommended keep it off his hands so it doesn't go in his mouth, and give him a bath at the end of each day.
I went a little wild researching sunscreen for DD. Which is hilarious considering she eats processed baby food and what not but ANYWHO. we use think baby and LOVE IT!!! The consistency isn't terrible, it smells great, and she never got burnt (she is Casper-white). It definitely irritated her eyes when I washed her off after a beach day though but I don't know what sunscreen wouldn't. We actually put eye drops in her eyes and it helped.
I wish spray were safe for little ones because trying to get a wiggly worm toddler covered is insane!

@morgarita I kept DS1 in a five point harness (Britax Frontier Sic 85) until he was 8 years old and now he sits in a backless booster and uses the seatbelt. He actually begged me and made a deal with me to make the switch at his birthday because he was embarrassed to be seen in the car seat...I felt badly for embarrassing him, but safety first and obviously I explained to him that car seat safety is very important and nobody should make fun of that. But I remember seeing kids in his PRESCHOOL who were in backless boosters, they were barely 3 yo at that time. I couldn't even handle seeing it, slumped over kids and all. DS1 no longer naps at all in the car and is large and fits all the specs for a backless booster. It's very important that they not only fit the weight and heigh limits but also never fall asleep in the car, no matter the age. So if an 8yo is still falling asleep, they need a booster with a back and headrest.
I kept DS2 rear facing till he was 3, and he is now in the Britax Frontier DS1 was using. I highly recommend that car seat because it grows with a child so much! It can convert to a booster (with a back), but we still use the 5 point harness feature since DS2 is 5.5 years old and still falls asleep in the car. I plan to keep him in there till the car seat expires. The weight and height limit on it are so high, I'd highly doubt he'd outgrow it before it expires. It's a forward facing only car seat, so I recommend it once you switch from a convertible car seat or decide to forward face when the child is the right weight, height and age.
It's very important that they not only fit the weight and heigh limits but also never fall asleep in the car, no matter the age. So if an 8yo is still falling asleep, they need a booster with a back and headrest.
Lol if that's the case, then I still need a back and headrest! Jkjk nobody report me please.

My MIL is the tiniest person ever, and I joke all the time with DH that she needs to be in a booster! lol She's 4'9" and probably 80-85lbs and falls asleep in the car all the time when we drive her.
@leilac all 3 of my kids had crazy trunk and neck control as babies. They all rolled back to belly between 6 and 10 weeks sporadically at night and then consistently from 10 weeks on. We used sleep sacks and had bare cribs other than fitted sheets. The pediatrician assured me that if they could roll like that their head control was fine. I did have a few sleepless nights and did go in to make sure they were breathing more then once. All 3 of them still prefer belly sleeping.
Anyone else's hair feel greasy during pregnancy?? I don't normally like to wash everyday, but now I feel like I have to or else my hair is really oily after just one day. It's a little bizarre for me, especially in dry winter weather.
I also really wish that both I and DH had learned more about the stages of labor. We got scared, and in hindsight that was transition. I was too out of it at the time to realize that, and DH hadn't read anything about labor.
Honestly...(maybe this is an UO, dunno), the baby will make its exit. If you stay calm and flexible on how that happens (relatively!), things will be ok. Or that was my mantra last time, and it worked for me. I am changing some things this time, but I don't regret not taking a class last time. We couldn't afford it, and in the end, for me, it wouldn't have changed the outcome or process much anyway.
Ina May tends to be my go-to as well. I don't exactly want to take classes and although DH is a super calm guy, I do want him to learn about the stages and how to help me through. I was looking for videos on Youtube haha!
I do agree with your last point. I don't necessarily have a birthing plan. The baby needs to come out one way or another and it's going to do what it's going to do. I don't believe in trying to control how that happens. If I can go natural, I will, if I feel like I want drugs, I'll get them and if the OB says I need a c-section well shit. Guess we'll have to do that lol! I'd like to think I do okay with pain but I'm not even sure what kind of pain contractions are so I have no idea how I'll react to that.
I posted this in Saturday Tickler (<---- dead ) and someone, I can't remember who asked my why I couldn't eat it. Cold leftover pizza...go or no go?? I pretty much eat everything else during pregnancy but I always stay away from that. Am I just being ridiculous??
kerils I am SO glad you asked that question. I believe my right is going to be my power boob. This thing hurts so much more than the other ... among many other reasons lol!
@BabyBump2 I don't even see what the risk would be with leftover pizza. Salmonella, ecoli or listeria would have already been cooked out and I don't even think it's in sauce, bread or mozzarella cheese. Not being rude I just don't know what the risk is?

I don't see why this would be harmful. As long as it hasn't been in your fridge long enough to go bad.
BabyBump2 Go. Cold, leftover pizza is not even an item that would cross my mind not to eat. Maybe I'm missing something? lol Mind you DH and I always make our own these days but still. I can't see why it would be an issue.
@stokesm21 Lol you're welcome. I felt way less stupid asking here than calling my doctor for something like that.
@BabyBump2 I have no idea why cold leftover pizza would be a problem. I think cold leftover pizza is the best thing since sliced bread, and I've eaten a ton of it pregnant. Granted mine is vegan, so if there was some kind of worry about bacteria etc. it's slightly safer, but I don't know what the problem would be in the first place.

Ok guys, this is a non pregnancy related question. And it is for the vets or vet techs. My dog has barely any teeth left, she was born with little to no enamel, so it wore off until only denton was left. She has kinda strong fishy stinky breath, and it isn't from her food. Does she need to go into the vet? Actually both my dogs do, but hers is worse.
