Lola feels like you're a hipster trying too hard, personally. Maybe that's influenced by someone I know who tries to hard who has tried to make that a nickname for herself.
I can't think of the song everyone is referring to but if that many people are talking about it then it may lead to bullying if you go with Lola. I hate to think that but kids will pick on other kids if they are given a reason. I would go with Lucy.
I really like Lucy, it's a great name that will work for her for all ages. When I hear Lola I think it sounds okay on a little dog or maybe cute for a toddler, but I can't picture an adult named Lola. It's just too cutesy imo.
I know a Lola and love her and her name and hardly anyone does the song thing. It's an adorable name. However, I do think Lucy sounds better with your last name.
Re: Lola or Lucy?
"Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl..." is all I think about with Lola.
More, posh, then Lola.
