  • @bacorrea so sorry to hear the extra stress. Hopefully the support of family and busyness of the holidays will boast your spirits.  Take time with the drive and stop often if needed. Hopefully when you get settled you can have some you time. Where are you moving? Do you have girlfriends close by?  Praying that this time clears your head and helps you focus on the best path for your family.

  • @bacorrea so sorry to hear about you and your husband. I hope the time with your family treat you well. Drive safely, check in if you'd like. Big creepy internet hugs sent your way

  • Oh, @bacorrea, I am so sorry to hear you are dealing with such a crap situation during the holidays. You should definitely use the Bump as a sounding board--it's great to have a group who doesn't know the rest of your family. No judgements here!

On the gender stereotyping front, my just over 2 year old son LOVES pink because of his love of flamingos. But his favorite toys are balls, trucks, and animals. We don't do much to sway him in any direction, but it's crazy to me that he never plays with his dolls and loves his "boy toys".

Too lazy to tag anyone from the earlier comments or even really add anything compelling to the conversation...away for work at a trade show and according to my iPhone health monitor, I walked nearly 6 miles today. Which felt like 12. Thanks, baby.

  • @bacorrea I'm happy to hear that your dad is flying out to drive with you. Knowing that you have a 2yr old riding along too, I think that will make a world of a difference for when she may be cranky and just want some company. At least that's how my DD can be. She is a grump after being alone in the back for awhile. Shes also still rearfacing if that makes a difference.

  • @pshaortao oh yes. Same for my DD still rear facing and can be a grouch! I just slowly throw new things back their to do. We have two iPads with movies/tv shows/games. I just got her this little vtech computer that helps with ABCs and I buy a ton of coloring stuff. We also stop about every three-ish hours to fill up on gas and stretch our legs.
  • So many Hugs @bacorrea

  • @achays11, I share my name with one of my cousins. I don't mind it at all. I see her only every now and again. The only bad part is that I am a few years older so I got stuck being called Big Annie as a kid and she was Little Annie. I sometimes get called Big Annie even now, and really, what grown woman wants to be called big anything?

Bottom line, if you like it, go with it.

  • @bacorrea - I'm so sorry! I hope things work out and you still have a happy holiday season. I know it's never easy to go through this. Hopefully some time with your family helps you get clarity to make such hard decisions for your family.

  • @bacorrea - I'm so sorry you're going through that, especially at this time. Glad it sounds like you have your family's support, that's definitely something to be thankful for. *Creepy internet hug*

On the gender front, I agree with @Squirtgun's post that it's much harder for boys who are into "girl" things. Boy or girl, I hope my kids are all able to choose their likes and dislikes without being shepherded one way or the other by society's expectations. For now, I dress my son in pink sometimes, and he uses pink sippy cups, etc, along with all other colors. And if I ever have a daughter, she'll wear my son's old hand me downs just like baby boy #2. And they'll survive.

  • Oh @bacorrea, I am so sorry you are going through this especially over the holidays. That is great that your dad is flying out to drive with you. I hope you find a welcoming support group when you arrive and, as others said, find some clarity on the situation. Feel free to vent and share as you need. We are here without judgement.

  • I sway back and forth on the gender front.

I agree kids should be able to play with what they want. But i know my fiance had a tough time, he is extremely "Metro" and has very feminine mannerisms at times, and if you didn't know him it is very easy to think he might be gay. Although he's OK with it now, I think deep down it still bothers him from time to time. It didn't help his case any that he was a face character at Disney during college (he was the cutest/sexiest Aladdin i've ever seen, but i may be biased... if only I had known him then )  :D  The men in my family on the other hand are very masculine, so i'm hope baby boy gets the best of both worlds!

I honestly don't ever see myself dressing my son in pink or tutu's just because I can, but if he chooses that I'm find with it. My DD is extremely girly which makes sense because I am too. So DS will have plenty of opportunities to play dress up and dolls :)

  • Question?(I don't want to start a thread about this so I'll post here instead?)

Did anyone ever get sick after the flu shot? I received mine recently but a (low dose) for pregnant women the nurse said but the thing is the very next day I started getting the sniffles now today I have a horrible sore/raw throat a dry itchy cough my eyes hurt and itch and swollen my wars hurt and I have a stuffy nose all this on top of my head feeling like it's going to explode. DH says he thinks it's normal after a flu shot but idk...it just happenedso fast! It was like I was fine one day then the next I get hit with all that ughhh. Any answers or advice are greatly appreciated :)tyia
  • Just going to AW a little since I had posted about kid allergies in the STM check in.

Went to the allergist today and finally did some formal testing. We were right, dairy and eggs are a no no and we were curious about cashews, those were a big positive too. Some weak positives on other tree nuts but he is a peanut butter fiend so we are good there. I got lectured about needing to carry Benadryl and an epi pen. Kiddo loved the training epi pen and did really well.

Doc suggested keeping some kind of allergy ID with the kid. This sounds impossible on a 2 year old. I saw the silicone kid's bracelets but had anyone had any luck with stuff like that?

  • Is there a way to search JUST our board for keywords? On my computer I can put in a search term and it looks like it will just search May 2017, but I end up getting results from all over the place.
  • @emilyalso  I've noticed that too.  But I think our board results are the first few that show up.

  • @emilyalso I hate the search function because of this. I think you can tweak the settings in advanced method but I'm not sure. It's been awhile since I've tried it

  • The congestion mention made me think...anyone having breathing problems yet? I have allergy and exercise induced asthma and my Dr. said that there's a 1/3 rule with pregnancy and asthma. 1/3 asthma goes away, 1/3 gets better, 1/3 stays the same. I've noticed I've been having more trouble lately. It has been gloomy out so maybe that's kicked up allergens or maybe it's getting worse? Either way, it sucks.

  • @nda_roxybabe I got short of breath doing the simplest things and did last pregnancy too. I don't have asthma, I just get winded after things like a single flight of stairs. So part of that might be a normal pregnancy gift, hooray.

  • We have our anatomy scan in about a week and a half, I cannot wait to find out what we are having!!!! Also, I started an instagram blog a few weeks ago, I would love your support :) Name is @greedymamadallas
  • @WombThereItIs Oh yes, I've been getting winded easily. This is different though, its like when I normally have a flair up and cant get a good, deep breath. It makes me yawn a lot.

  • @WombThereItIs it seems weird that your allergist suggested an allergy ID on such a young kid. My allergist has never suggested anything like that!  I mean, there's not going to be any time that you or another trusted adult who knows his allergies aren't with him?  I'm not really sure of any bracelet that would stay on a toddler!  I did add daughters info into my phone's "Medical ID" that EMTs are supposed to look at. (In case there's ever a car wreck where I'm unable to tell first responders about her allergies.)
  • @Squirtgun I'm guessing it's because we are a military family. With frequent moves and changes due to deployment etc we have a lot more variability. On post daycares consolidate between centers some parts of the year and he can have different staff and even be in a different building (notably with diffeeent kitchen staff) over the holidays so even something like childcare is surprisingly fluid.
