We feed before take off too. Largely because I don't love having to pause for feedings out and about! LOL Car rides seem to be hit and miss but full tummy helps!

My LO hated the car seat too and would cry the entire time we were out. Drove me crazy the first two months. After an 8 hour drive to Milwaukee for a wedding she's been fine in the car seat and often goes right to sleep. Maybe the trip was like baby exposure therapy lol.

Well, I am stupid. I had this amazing thought that if I fed my baby just on one side when she woke up early that she would go to sleep nicely. NOPE. She was chatting away and playing with her feet. I come in and feed her on one side, put her down. Sad crying begins. Now she's screaming at the top of her lungs in her crib. I hate daylight saving.

@shaylalr I had this dream where if I put her down a little later than normal she might sleep in a tiny bit more, NOPE! Not to mention we traveled from the TX to CA so she was already getting up at 5am CA time all week.

E used to love the car. Now, even with a feeding right before, she screams. I'm thinking she's starting to figure out when she's "left alone" because she'll usually settle when I reach a hand back(while DH is driving) and let her hold it. She's also not having it when I leave her to use the bathroom, get dressed, make coffee..

@schaze I am having the same issue. I left her under the play gym to put away her laundry and she started screaming like a banshee. In her defense, I had been at work all day. Usually she complains or whimpers. I love it and I hate it!

@schaze You took the words right out of my mouth. LO suddenly hates the car too. Starts crying the minute we start the car. Really crossing my fingers it's a phase. Our 3 hr car ride at Thankagiving should be fun....

Yes to the terrible car rides! We had a 2 hour drive this weekend, twice, there and back and as soon as she woke up in her seat she was PO'd. Nothing except for getting out of the seat would console her

So the holidays will be here soon and I want to put some presents under the tree for C. I am not going to go crazy, but I want to get C a couple of developmental toys, does anyone have any suggestions as to what to get for a 5 month, I feel like there is so much out there.

This might be something all of you have done, but if not it might be worth a try.....We noticed Layla seemed fussy in the car seat a while ago and a friend suggested removing the infant insert that wraps around her body and leaving just the head support. It made a difference!

@adough27 E is 4 months old. Right now she is obsessed with books/fabric that crinkles. It is good cause and effect for her. She also likes rings that have different textures, sensory balls, and the oball because it is easy to hold. Might be a good place to start?

I agree with crunchy toys. Layla loves those too! Bright starts makes various kinds. The foam blocks seem popular. I'm going to get her those. There's a brand Lamaze that has some cool toys too. I did a search earlier this month "Best toys for 6 month olds" and have my eye out for a handful of the recommendations.

Something that's been on my mind with the holidays coming up......Do any of you have any ideas on how to insinuate to people that getting LO a gift really isn't necessary? I know family will want to buy her things, and that's fine. We've always exchanged with family. That's a lot of people as it is! I'm just scared of being unprepared for other friends (especially friends of my mom!) that decide to gift give, thus causing us to scramble to give a gift in return! She'll be right around 5-6 months....heck, I feel like we just had our shower. She doesn't really need anything additional at this point!

@adough27 Granted baby is brand new and this is their FIRST Christmas/Holiday season, you want to get them brand new items but sometimes you can get great hand me downs at various mommy and me sales/yard sales too. Even brand new items! Of course this is recommended if you don't feel grossed out for your LO to use what another baby has, after cleaning/sanitizing the items! My SIL had gotten LO a bunch of sensory/development (Imaginarium and Vtech) toys from a huge mommy and me weekend sale at a local church that would otherwise have cost upwards of 30-60 bucks an toy! Just an idea!

@TiffRox81, I had the same concern because MIL's friends who I didn't even know kept sending me gifts after C was born and it was very overwhelming and I didn't know how to thank them. I told my MIL to politely tell her friends that they have given us so much and we appreciate it, but we are trying to just exchange gifts with family, and close friends.

Omg. How are we ever supposed to succeed with crib napping?!? Seriously!! Overnight was nothing compared to this. She pretty much got the hang of that right away. I put her in her crib during he day and she screams bloody murder!!!! I'm trying to break the swing/car seat/ergo habits before I'm back at work full time but this is tough stuff.

For those of you that have kiddos who hate being in their car seat (mine hated it until about 2.5 months, was good, but now that we're 4 months we hate it again) are you in an infant seat or convertible? I've been doing some research and wondering if maybe she is just getting snug (all inserts are removed) and maybe we need to move on to a convertible seat?

@kmurdock925- FYI most convertible seats aren't as reclined as the infant seat, even when reclined as far as it will go. We bought a convertible seat for our truck when DD1 was 1. However, she wouldn't sleep well in it. We kept her in the infant seat in my car until she was 2. Since then I think they say it safer to change to convertible seats at 1. However, if your baby is crying lots, might as well try a convertible seat since you'll have to buy one soon anyways.

@kmurdock925 We have a convertible seat. Our's weight limit started at 5lbs and he loves it. Sometimes he is mad for a minute while getting strapped in, but as soon as it's done the the car starts moving, he is happy as can be. We've also found that playing music helps (just whatever we listen to).

@shaylalr Which of the oball toys did you get? We seen a bunch but went with the double ended rattle with beads in the middle. He adores it and loves to hold both sides. There was so many it was hard choosing, so would I've to hear your experience with other ones!

@setosh Not gonna lie, we're kinda in the whatever happens happens camp (leaning towards hoping it happens, haha). I totally thought I might be pregnant again last week, but I think it was just my hormones shifting back towards normal or something making me feel weird. (I'm not, but I wouldn't have been mad if I was!) Glad I'm not the only one, I felt a little crazy for even thinking about it!

@setosh we want to try again, but I REALLY want to BF for a year so I think we will start trying next summer. But we aren't taking measures to keep it from happening! I don't have my period yet so we never know, we might have a whoopsies baby

holly142 I like the theory that I will have to buy one anyway so if it doesn't help the crying I can just put it away and pull it out later. She is 18 lbs and 25.5" and her infant seat is good for up to 25 lbs and 32" so she is well within the limitations but just looks squished. BUT- she hates laying back at home- she wants to sit up as much as possible. I may plop her in display models at the store and see how she reacts...There are some good veterans day sales this weekend.

We are definitely going to try for another, but until LO is 18months. I read and OB confirmed that it takes at LEAST that long for your body to recover the minerals and vitamins that pregnancy depleats. I want to make sure I'm healthy and set up LO2 with all the right stuff from the get go, plus I want to BF for a year...completely ready for another though! Jealous of you mamas trying already!

No baby trying over here. I got an IUD put in at my 6 week PP appointment. We haven't said/decided if we'll have another one or not yet. But if we do, it wouldn't be until M is 1-2 at least.

Tips to get baby to nap in crib?!? He does great at night but just screams during the day he'll put himself to sleep in his swing in minutes and take good naps.

My husband and I want a big family (at least 4) and we both want another one right now, but the daycare costs would kill us financially, so we are waiting until C is 18 months.

Funny trying for #2 comes up. DH & I were having some fun on Friday night when we realized we were out of condoms. I'm still on the mini-pill because I haven't switched over yet after ending breastfeeding. DH's words to me were "Do we really want to risk another baby this soon?" Needless to say we took an alternative route to finish the night.

Wow! Loved all those responses!! We haven't made up our mind, but I'm thinking about just using condoms for another year or so and then seeing where we are financially. I was planning on going on BC, but I've been off it for so long and I really don't want to start gaining weight and being depressed again.

@setosh I'd love to have another one within the year but realistically we aren't financially stable enough. I'd have to go back to work for at least a year for us to be able to support a family of four for the 6 months maternity leave I get. We might start trying again the start of 2018, I don't want to stay on BC to long. I was all over the place the last time I came off it, probably because I had been on it for seven years!

Our night time routine has only been disturbed a small bit lately but by god the days are crazy. The only way Kyle will sleep is in my arms and if I put him down he screams. It's getting more and more difficult to get a nap longer than 20 minutes out of him.

My H has been saying for years that he only wants one, mostly because of finances. He agreed to wait until W is a year old before getting snipped, but recently he's conceded to hold off on the vasectomy and consider having another in a few years. It's a tiny little thing but it's a major victory to me! I've always wanted 2 but it's hard to imagine having to share the attention and it makes me a little sad to think neither would get the one on one time.

@jennyleigh16- I felt the same way about having 2. However now that I have 2, I love it! Mine are 2 1/2 years apart. It's been a transition since now DD1 doesn't get all the attention. However, she loves DD2 and is so cute with her! Plus, she's learning to share more so isn't as spoiled. Now that my parents are getting older, I love having a sister to talk to about them and help me make decisions. That part would be harder if I was an only child.
