Abigail has officially decided to eat every 30 minutes all night long (last night we started at 11 pm) and then magically at 6:00 am she sleeps for four hours straight.

Yes... Except I'm trying to get LO asleep. He's got his days/nights mixed up
  • Shout out to the awake moms.
  • Hey @AllyTheKid, I'm awake. Willow has her days and nights confused, so she likes to party from 2:00-5:00 a.m. with cluster feeding and adorable staring contests.
  • I'm here too. Baby is sleep nursing.

  • @annabenanna- we have this clip on book light I attach to her cosleeper. It's pretty low light but enough to see by and she stays sleepy. Maybe worth a try :)

love having more people awake with me!
  • @annabenanna I haven't even thought about light during changes... hmmm... I feel like I could change a diaper by phone light. We will see, I guess lol
  • Ignore the horribly faulty subtitles.

I wish my kid would chill EVER. He acts like his RnP is trying to eat him every time I put him in it. Or put him anywhere.

  • Bahaha I'm sorry but I laughed out loud when I read your post @OrangeEv. I'm really surprised Grayson doesn't seem to like his swing at all. I thought he'd love it. We ended up buying a small floor bouncer and he'll sleep in that and sometimes chill. It vibrates too which I think keeps him asleep.

  • It's been a cluster feed kind of day. Just woke up to feed Wade, he ate about 10 mins on the right side and fell asleep. As I go to put him back down, I realize my left boob has leaked through the cloth pad I had in my bra, my bra, and my nightgown. I have replaced the pad, and am about to get back in bed, wet PJs and all. I'm too sleepy to dig out something else to wear lol.

  • We're having a hard night over here. He acts hungry but then loses interest quickly. I can't even tell if he's getting any colostrum half the time. Ughhhhhh.....definitely talking to the LC tomorrow. He's also got a lot of gas. DH is being amazing since it's hard for me to get up from the bed too much with the c-section.

@ibabyloveb87 A quick way to check is to hand express a bit before putting babe on the boob, just for peace of mind.
  • I hate DH's fan. He is buried in a comforter while I sit up in bed nursing and freezing my ass off.
  • @ibabyloveb87 I had the same experience in the hospital. Are you still there or have you been discharged? The cluster feeding helped my milk come in super fast so it's not for nothing! Hang in there!

@ibabyloveb87 yep I had the same experience. My LC said it's totally normal and good for you and baby. It helps soothe them and establish your supply.

ETA: it is really exhausting though, hang in there <3

  • Also, @ibabyloveb87, if you're still in the hospital and you have the option of sending baby to the nursery, I highly recommend it. I was dead set against it before delivering but with recovering from surgery, I don't think I would have gotten through those first few days without the sleep I got while he was in the care of nurses.

  • Thanks for the encouragement and tips ladies. Things are always way worse at night! Baby B has only lost 3% of his weight so the pediatrician is happy and I spoke with the LC this morning too. I'm feeling much better after those conversations. We are both starting to get a better feel for how this whole feeding thing works and it's going better today. Should be going home sometime tomorrow!

    WARNING: Long post ahead.

Sitting here with tears streaming as I write this. Night time at our house has been tough this week. DS is suffering from night terrors. I think I've posted about this before. We had a reprieve for about a month, but he just had his third this week and it's so difficult to witness.

Night terrors are different than nightmares. And, even though DS is sitting up and screaming or crying with his eyes open, he's not really awake. If you get in his line of vision, it's like he's looking right thru you. And, unlike a nightmare, kids typically don't remember a night terror unless they wake up (or are woken up) during one.

(We learned this the hard way one of the first times he had one. DH picked him up to comfort him and DS wiggled out of his arms and ran behind the rocker in his room. When I bent down to comfort him, he dug his heels in the carpet and backed away from me like he was terrified, didn't recognize me, and thought I was going to hurt him. Waking a kid up during a night terror can make them confused and even more scared. The next morning when asked if he slept well, he said, "Yeah, but I got scared of that person. In my room who went, "AHHHHH!!!!" We felt HORRIBLE.)

Anyway, since that night we've read more and spoken with his doctor. When he has a night terror (jolts up in his bed and starts screaming/crying/yelling, "no...no...NO!") we need to stand next to his bed and just make sure he doesn't hurt himself. Not try to wake him. Don't pick him up.

It is the hardest thing I've ever had to do watching my baby scream and cry in fear and not be able to help him. DH and I usually stand there silently crying while we watch him. Once the terror ends (about 15 mins on average), he literally collapses and falls immediately back to sleep. That's when I pick him up and love on him. He doesn't seem to remember them in the morning, and for that I am grateful, but I don't know how much longer I can handle this - especially when baby is here. How will I be there for him if I'm nursing baby? What about the nights we spend in the hospital?

I feel guilty, because kids usually start with night terrors because of changes at home (new baby, transition to big boy furniture, etc.). Sometimes I wish we could go back in time and he could sleep peacefully.

Cookie for for you if you read this whole post. I just find it really hard to calm down and get back to sleep after an episode and needed to vent somewhere.
