Bumpers in the night

Are you awake in the middle of the night? (What could you possibly have on your mind?) Do you live on the west coast or in another timezone far, far away? Are you just a night owl?  Are you sad that the bumpin' isn't as jumpin' in these wee hours? Commiserate here, in real time, about all your pregnancy woes or just engage in some mindless chatter.

I'm not sure if my insomnia will reoccur tonight. I was so determined to not nap before I picked my mom up from the airport last night at midnight that I went in the other direction and got so amped up I couldn't sleep for a few hours after. Now tonight my butt is dragging. But she's on east coast time and somehow still going strong!

  • "bumpers in the night" - I like it! Although I kind of enjoy bumping when it's a ghost town - I can catch up much more quickly because no new comments are coming in ;)

  • True! It is good for catching up, but not the best if you want more than a one sided convo.

  • Yeah, due to my time zone I'm awake and pretty much everyone else is sleeping (except @books&icecream ) But I should go to work soon... haha

I work third shift so i always bump in the night.
  • I'm up because DD requires asthma treatments every 6 hours right now. So, I have to give her a treatment at 3:30 a.m. and now I can't go back to sleep.
  • I read this and thought it was going to be about crib bumpers because I had a discussion about them yesterday!  :D

i usually check TB after I get up to pee to see what I missed after I went to bed, but usually don't post until I'm at work the next day.

  • I am one of those angry people when I can't get back to sleep. I thrash around in my bed- kick my feet and get really annoyed with DH's breathing/every movement. I don't turn on the tv or my phone usually. I just get angry!
  • I usually don't post when I'm awake during the night, mostly bc typing while laying down makes my hands numb, but I'll follow! And maybe if I move to the glider I'll start haha
  • I never, EVER Bump when I wake up in the middle of the night. If I fall down that rabbit hole, I can kiss going back to sleep goodbye.
I try not to, but last night DD was having a hard time going back to sleep as well. She usually sleeps right through her asthma treatment, but last night she woke up and fought going back to sleep for about an hour and a half. I gave up after 30 minutes and started bumping.
  • I know that bright light such as that emitted by a cell phone can mess with circadian rhythm in the middle of the night. But I've also read that if you can't sleep, you should do something else to take your mind off of it instead of just lying there. I guess by that they mean drink chamomile
tea and read a soothing book, but I interpret it as the go ahead to catch up on social media :)

Do you have family history of asthma?  DH has really bad asthma, and I'm hoping that our LO will be spared, but I haven't done any reading on likelihood of it being passed on, or how it's diagnosed in young children.  All questions for the pediatrician when it's time I suppose.  middle of the night treatments sound rough. Poor DD and mama!

Yes, although neither DH nor I have it. DD doesn't have chronic asthma, thank goodness, but it becomes a problem anytime that she gets an upper respiratory infection or a cold. Fortunately, her pediatrician thinks that she will likely outgrow it.
  • @ball4768
I'm glad your DD will likely outgrow it!  fingers crossed :)

  • @chriscasey33 The new iphones have "nightshift" mode which takes out all of the harsh blue tint and makes it way easier on your eyes.

I walked only TWO miles yesterday and the ligament pain tonight (at work..) is so awful. I would do a lot just to relieve it.
  • I look if I wake up really early in the morning. But rarely in the middle of the night. I try to make those wake ups quick pit stops and that's it. I did bump a lot in the middle of the night when I was nursing and trying to console a fussy baby. So I probably will again when baby is born. Hopefully not much until then.

Added to my growing list of reasons that I need a new phone.  Primary being that I have no space to take a photo (with only 100 photos and no music on my current old, crappy, no storage space, iPhone).

I had a day last week where I could only do half of my normal loop (I usually do two loops around a park during work).  I thought it was going to be downhill for the rest of the pregnancy, but I made a turnaround.  Hopefully, your pain just lasts the day too.

  • @chriscasey33 It went away by the end of my shift, but now I am afraid to push myself. I'll just have to ease back into the exercise thing.
  • @OrangeEv
I hear ya.  I had to literally run to catch the bus this morning.  There was a guy in front of me also running and I definitely shouted ahead "tell them there's a pregnant lady coming. Hold the bus!"  I was winded for the next 10 minutes.  Taking it easy is on the schedule for the rest of the day

  • I can't sleep because my allergies are going off the chart and I'm pretty sure it's husbands pit stick doing it. Baby is also playing soccer with my kidneys
  • edited August 2016
@Mintz1982 lol at pit stick (took me a minute to figure that one out), but sorry about the allergies :(
luckily LO is not hitting any major organs that I can tell, but I think she's auditioning for the role of alien bursting from sigourney weaver's stomach.

  • Ugh...wishing there was a solution to this fucking nerve pain in my back, neck, and arms other than giving birth.
  • I wake up and eat a snack I keep on the end table every night around 3-4am. at first I thought I did this bc I was nauseous first tri but now I'm conditioned to be starving

    send help, and more food.
  • I never bump in the middle of the night, but between leg cramps & hip pain I've been awake for almost 2 hours now - so why not?! Hope everyone else is snoozing peacefully in dreamland though!!
  • Waking yourself up (or waking DH up who wakes you up thinking you're having nightmares) crying from pain several times in a night...suck
  • Wooo timezones. It's almost 1 pm but I guess for you guys its still night?

I've woken up to pee four times tonight, DH has woken me up with his snoring three, and DS has gotten up twice (once at 4:30 and now again at 5:30). I'm still sitting in his room demanding he go to sleep because it's, "the middle of the night." If this kid doesn't fall asleep again before it's light out, I'm screwed.

Ask me how much I'm looking forward to the rest of the day...

I was commiserating with my friend who just had a baby and she said her worst aches and pains started two weeks before labor. She felt so bad that I sill have 7 weeks to go, and am having debilitating, hip pain, because her dr also said the only cure was getting that baby out.

:(  ugh. I'm sorry your pain keeps you up. I cried in a Gap dressing room while DH was trying on pants. Awkward!

  • Midnight and it just got the hiccups so I'm awake for at least another 40 minutes. Plus I'm stressing myself out over ultrasound for GD and NST tomorrow :( I don't really want a preemie.
  • It's 3am and I'm working sooooo no sleep...yet. C'mon 7:30am!
  • I used to do a thread like this for my old BMB after our babies came, called it the Night Crew thread. Glad to see the tradition is still alive :)

YES to the Night Shift PP, I may not pregnant night bump, but I'll PP night bump while BFing.

I ALMOST got my phone out to bump the night away, but refrained in hopes that I would drift back off to sleep... nope. Didn't happen. Now I'm tired, cranky, and have a dentist appointment at 8:15. Boo.
