Has anyone used saline drops for their LOs if they were congested? Dylan woke up this morning sounding pretty congested and was sneezing off and on throughout the day. I did forgot to turn on his humidifier last night which could be why but if he is still congested tomorrow I was thinking about going to get the drops.
@Sbrown721 I think I have a milk blister but it came before I gave birth. I have an appt next week so I'm going to ask about it then to make sure it is before I try to pop it etc. I read online you can pop it but since it's not painful I don't know if I want to. Lol
i have arm and hammer simply saline but haven't used it yet. I've only sucked snot out when I've had to.
@drabong86@Sbrown721 yep, the saline drops work wonders...especially when used with the NoseFrida! Speaking of which, any humidifier recommendation?? The one we have is ultrasonic and is prone to mold..I'm thinking one with a filter would be better, especially since winter is coming...
@Sbrown721 I didn't know that was the name but when I just googled milk bleb - I've definitely had. I just used hot compress and gently put pressure there w my fingers. Milk cane out and it was better within hours (fortunately!)
Victoria got her 2 month shots yesterday and screamed like a banshee. Immediately Afterward she was fine and she slept quite a bit last evening. Good solid nap today. No fever or anything so far and she's had a pretty happy day.
We bought Olivia's Halloween costume today. She is going to be a little sheep, and I am going to be Little Bo Peep (in a pink shirt with a white cane and maybe a bonnet). We will most likely just take a couple pictures and visit our 2 neighbors. Anyone else ready to dress up their little peanuts?
I haven't gotten Molly's costume yet. Not sure what I'm going to get - need to see what's available in her size. We do have a bunch of Halloween themed onesies and booties etc so we will definitely wear those leading up to and likely after Halloween. Wish Halloween was every day!
@skirtandsandals Where did you find your costume for Olivia? We're having a hard time finding anything to fit a newborn. I'm thinking I may just put him in a Halloween onesie and call it a day if we can't find something.
@Laraeq We just went to Target. Pre-baby, my husband and I always made our costumes (last year i was a pretty sweet Valkyrie) but this year there just isn't the time, haha. I wanted to make sure we didn't skip it though, so the $20 infant costumes there met the need.
I just found babys costume @ Walmart. She's going to be a strawberry and it was 9.97. It's 0-6 months but I anticipate it being a bit big, but it's super cute.
My random for today is I never realized how happy it would make me seeing my DH as a dad. They were napping yesterday while watching football and my heart was just so full. Because it as s so cute I just have to share a picture
Is breastfeeding completely pain-free for anyone yet? I have sensitive skin to begin with, but jeez I didn't expect it to be so painful. I guess I just have to wait for my boobs to toughen up. Baby is only 3 weeks old so I'm hoping it will get easier soon!
@Sbrown721 most of the pain I get is with the initial latch on then if he is latched right I don't have any pain while he is actually eating, but if his latch is shallow or if he pulls off some it is definitely uncomfortable. He eats about every hour or 2 during the day but only eats from one side, so I make sure I put on lanolin cream after he eats and that seems to really help.
I used a shield for so long for BFing. I started trying to ween her off of it as my nipples are starting to stick out more (TMI sorry). But if she's tired or she doesn't latch right it definitely hurts. I went back to the shield today as I was a bit engorged this morning so it was hard for her to latch again. Plus I was a bit sore after using no shield for two days and her latching wrong last night. I think I will try again later today.
@Sbrown721 definitely not completely pain free yet. I also was using a shield and that helped with the pain a lot. Now I'm trying to ween her off the shield but with this 3 week growth spurt it's a little hard. Her latching on isn't as painful but I get pains in my breast after feeding...anyone else? Also it tingles so much during the let down and talk happens a few times each feeding and randomly through the day. Does that ever go away?
So glad to hear I'm not the only one with pain still (not that I want anyone to be in pain). My pain is with initial latch as well. It's helped a ton to take breaks and give him a bottle of expressed milk instead of BFing once in awhile!
Anyone know of a good way to up water intake? Something like Crystal Light? I don't think Crystal Light is safe. Looking for an easy way to flavor my water aside from adding fruit.
Things have been going better with breastfeeding, she fed every 2 hours today and I decided to go all breast during the day to see how it went. My pain is still with initial latch, until she gets the nipple pulled out, but then goes away if I have been good about the latch. Nipples are definitely tender still, but I second the lanolin. It has really helped.
Olivia is being a real challenge today. I am trying to get her to sleep in her crib during the day (not just the rock and play), so she would not sleep longer than 30 minutes all day. It was frustrating enough during the day, but now my husband is "helping". I use the "" because when he takes her in the evenings, he seems to view it as a run out the clock kind of thing, so he does whatever it takes to get her to stop crying, like bouncing her over his arm and giggling with her, instead of trying to get her to sleep. So I am always tempted to just do it myself, because if I am successful I get 2-3 hours of sleep, whereas with him I maybe get one. But he's got her right now, because I am not up for the fight right now. Wish me luck tonight...
@skirtandsandals I hear ya. My LO seems to have a nightly fussy period for like 3-4hrs. I pass her off to my husband and he's like "she doesn't like me, she's crying". Um do you not see her crying with me too??!! I need a break!
@skirtandsandals Xavier seems to be fussy for like an hour or so before bed. It can be really frustrating but it seems to be his norm. Purple crying is no joke.
When Dylan gets really mad he holds his breath! His face turns veet red and I'm just waiting for him to pass out one of these times. He is a very good baby and rarely cries but man when he gets inpatient or mad watch out he Has quite the temper.
@drabong88 I learned a great trick to deal with children holding their breath and crying...trying blowing hard in his face until he starts to breathe again!
Thanks all for the support! The night ended up not being bad at all. I got Olivia down at 11:30, and went right to bed myself. She woke again at 12:00, and, after bracing myself for a looong right, I reswaddled her, sang/rocked her 2 songs, and had her back asleep at 12:06. I turned off my alarm to wake her to feed, since I figured she needed the sleep more this one night, and she didn't wake again until 4:10! I fed her and had her back asleep by 4:30, and she then slept until 6:30! Repeat, and she was out until 9:30! And then she napped 11:00 - 12:30. Apparently my baby was sleeeeeeepy.
I couldn't get Victoria to nap yesterday. She fusses until she falls asleep in your arms or car seat but only for 15 min tops.
I fed fed her last evening around 6p - 6:45 and was so exhausted I figured I would nap for 15 min too. Except she slept til 1245 next morning! I fed her from then until 1am and she was asleep again. I figured I had an hour max but she gave me four more hours of sleep. I couldn't believe it!
Figuring it was a fluke but hoping for a repeat tonight!!
I'm confused! I am EBFing, but trying to pump to build my supply as well. Baby is 4 weeks old. I know best time to pump is in the morning. So, I have baby eat from one breast and pump from the other? I am afraid to pump from both bc he eats then 30 minutes later he wants more if he's still awake so I put him back on the same boob he was on before while I pump the other one. If I pumped from both there wouldn't be much milk left for him. Although he could just be comfort nursing more than actually eating a 2nd time.
I pump from both breast in the morning and before bed. There have been times he has nursed shortly after pumping. And the breasts are amazing thing they somehow still produce the milk he needs even if it just takes a little bit with his sucking.
Do you think it's expected to bring the baby with me to my 6wk post partum appt? My husband is home today and I could leave her with him. It's not super close, I have to park in a parking garage, so then haul the car seat? Put her in the moby? Stroller seems overkill... My midwife didn't deliver her, so I'd like her to see her, but not really sure it matters.
I brought my little one with me but that's just because my boyfriend went with me to my appointment as well. My Midwife didn't do anything with Xavier she just cooed over him.

best of luck and hope yours goes away quickly too
Ellie has been awake from 8 or 9 until 12 or 1 the last few nights. I'm fine all day but I'm tired by 9 pm and she's awake!

How are you building your supply? Details please
