Re: October Randoms

  • @Sbrown721 that is what I've heard from a lot of mom's who quit breastfeeding. You don't have to give up your life to breastfeed just work it into your normal life/routine.

@skirtandsandals and @jensou Xavier absolutely loves "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" song by the Hawaiian singer and other songs like it. He actually really likes Frank Sinatra and Louie Armstrong era music as well. He is such an old soul.

  • So have any of you lovely ladies decided to cut your hair since baby was born? I have been growing my hair out for years and kept it past my shoulders for a while now. However with having Xavier I find it is hard to do my longer hair and I'm thinking about cutting it. Thinking about getting a long bob or something like it. Anybody else in the same boat?
  • @jenkar01 I curl my hair with a curling iron everyday otherwise it's a frizzy mess and I hate it straight. With baby here there just really won't be time to curl it before work each morning. I'm trying to figure out a way to style my natural curls without it looking frizzy or else I'm just going to have to wear it straight from now on. Frustrating.
  • @jenkar01 I was just thinking about that today, but I always regret it when I cut my hair so I'm trying to hold off. I wear it up everyday, even before baby so I dont know why I need to have it long for the maybe two times a month I wear it down and styled. I would love to just sneak some time to at least dye my roots. Maybe if I did wear it down more id feel a little more put together.... as I am currently sitting here with hair up and looking rather slept on, breakouts due to hormone changes, no make up, and just noticed some dried spit up on my shoulder....sweet.
  • @jellybiehn that is about what I feel and look like as well right now. When I have my hair shorter I do do it more often. My hair is curly and so trying to do it sometime when it's long takes a minute. And with having a little one now it takes even longer.
  • @jenkar01 My hair is really long and I am planning to donate once I cut it. I've considered cutting it several times but it's so much easier long. I can throw it in a quick bun or braid. My hair is frizzy so when it's short I would need to straighten it or actually use effort to make it look somewhat presentable. Plus pulled back it is out of the way of little baby fingers which already have gotten tangled in it on the few times I've wore my hair down.

@Sbrown721 I haven't had any alcohol but I wasn't a big drinker before being pregnant so it's no issue for me.
  • @jenkar01 I just cut 8 inches off my hair last week.  I was getting really lazy about doing my hair because it was so long.  I needed something different.  It's still shoulder length so I can pull it back if I need to but i have been fixing my hair everyday.
  • Do you guys put your LO to bed at a certain time or around the same time each night? If so do you have a specific bedtime routine yet?

@drabong88 Mine seems to go to bed around midnight, he sleeps for about 30 mins to an hour on my husband or in his little chair then my husband moves him to his crib where he sleeps for a while, that is when he does the longest stretch of sleep, he wakes up between five to six maybe seven.

We don't do a specific routine other than feed, burp and rock him to sleep. My husband takes care of the rocking so I can go to sleep myself.

@jenkar01 My hair is very long, longer than my butt now. Since I could decide on my hair I always had it long and about 10 years ago now I cut very short and liked it for two weeks, then regretted it so I decided not to cut it again. But most days now it is just in a messy ponytail xD

  • @drabong88 Xavier tends to go to sleep between 9 and 10. Closer to 10 o'clock though. He usually starts to get fussy to where no amount of rocking will do, so we swaddle him in his sleep sack, daddy gives him his bottle and he goes to sleep. And then he'll usually sleep anywhere from 4 to 6 hours from then. Although last night he slept almost 7 hours so that was a nice stretch of sleep for me. I know some people do sooner bed times but I do his bedtime based off of my bedtime so that it's easier on both of us.

@Alyeena yeah I've been growing my hair out for the last 3 years and it's just to the point where I just don't do anything with it. I just usually have it in a ponytail, the only time it's down is when it's been freshly washed. I don't plan on cutting it short just to my shoulders. It's probably about 3 or 4 inches past my shoulders right now I just want it a little shorter.
  • All my hair is falling out. Seems like in handfuls. I may have to cut it just to keep up :(
  • @drabong88 what?! That's amazing!! I had no idea babies could roll over this early!
  • 8:30 pm and I'm home alone trying to nurse my baby to sleep. He's nearly asleep and the doorbell rings. I ignore it. It rings again. Ignore. Knocking on the door. Ignore. Banging on the door. Ignore. Doorbell rings again. Now I'm worried it's an emergency. I pull baby off of my boob and run to answer the door...political guy doing a sales pitch. Baby starts crying. I hear 3 seconds of him and I slam the door and lock it on him. Omg soo mad!
  • @drabong88 our bedtime routine is bath, story time, feed and rock (if needed).  Our schedules are changing over the next few weeks so instead of bedtime being 10:30/11 going into bassinet my new target the last few days is moving that to between 8 and 9, preferably closer to 8. The first stretch of sleep is usually the longest at 4-5 hours.  There have been a few days that the next stretchs are long like that but usually that's about two hours increments.  Naps are the issue as some days they are nonexistent but I really need to get into some kind of routine with them before work starts again.
  • @Sbrown721 I would be pissed! PISSED! Knocking and ringing frantically like that is scary, not to mention incredibly rude. If it was me, I would find out whatever group or person they were campaigning for and bitch them out.

@Sbrown721 What a fucking asshole! If your are salesperson or any other kind of solicitor you should never ring or knock more than once.
If people don't answer after so many knocks and only answer because you won't go away or because they think it is an emergency like you... what makes them think they will listen to what they have to say??

@CDE20 I hear you on the nonexistent naps during the day... Mine gets so little sleeps, only little cat naps here and there.

  • Has anyone started daycare yet? How was the transition?
  • I survived my trip to my parents, the three year old did not do well. Ugh. And now my mom flew back with me to stay for a week. Mixed feelings on that one...
@jensou I saw you mentioned hair loss, anyone else getting that yet? I think this is the best pregnancy hair I've had out of all 3. I'll be sad when it falls out in fistfuls !

  • I used to put Molly to sleep late - like midnight - but I wasn't getting enough sleep. So now I aim to get upstairs around 9 and nurse her and get her to bed whenever she falls asleep. She sleeps for 3-3.5 hours then feeds and does another 3 hours or so. We had company this morning and had to wake up. So I got her up - she would have slept a bit more.
  • @hejo2016 I was really scared of the postpartum hair loss but so far I have been lucky, I am not losing anymore than normal. Thank goodness because I really don't have that much hair to begin with.

  • Same @Alyeena I don't have much to begin with. It's super thin.
  • I would have lost my mind @Sbrown721 we placed a no solicitors sticker on a magnet on our door. It's actually worked. It looks tacky so if we have people coming over I take it down LOL.

started work at 6w postpartum. It was tough but mainly because I psyched myself up for 2 days a week and had to come back full time for the first two weeks there. It was so hard! And my hubby was overseas. In retrospect, starting off in that way has made the rest of it not so bad in comparison ... I'm on my 2 days a week right now and it's a good balance. Will keep rolling this way for the next month.

We checked out a lot of daycares. The biggest con was that in our state you can't do cloth diapers in "official" daycare and there are SO MANY babies there. Also expensive. We were referred to a lovely in home care provider who has a little one herself. She nannied for twins - twice! So I felt good about her having my Victoria with her sweet little one (she's a couple months older).

Its amazing all the stuff you have to pack for a day! And then when you get home you have to re pack for the next, wash the bottles, breast pump, chill the freezer packs. It's a ton of little things. I decided to dedicate a diaper bag just for daycare, which has helped. Gosh I could go on and on... I'm sure some other mommas want to chime in on daycare.
  • I hope everyone had a great Halloween. We certainly did.

Does anyone use water wipes? I'm considering switching to them from the natural care ones due to diaper rash.
  • My poor guy got his first round of vaccines today. He has been warm and cranky. So thankful for infant Tylenol and snuggles all day.
  • @CDE20 we use reusable wipes with water because all 3 of our kids have had issues with normal wipes. I have found that babyganics is good. I saw the water wipes, but thought they were pricey.
  • Baby boy's scalp/forehead is so dry and flaky. Any suggestions on what to use? Obviously don't want his hair looking greasy from lotion or oil...
