@lindsey61811 I LOVE the name Emily! It's always been my #1 favorite since my early teens... When it became one of the most popular names several years ago I remember thinking "noooo that was supposed to be MY name!" (I wanted to spell it Emileigh though) ...it didn't even make the list of potential girl names DH & I discussed because I just can't bring myself to pick a super popular name, even though I still love it so much.
I'm conflicted though because it's supposedly so popular.. but I work with kids (ages 5-12) and have for years and I have never met an Emily.
Still having trouble figuring it out here. We both still like Sebastian for a boy, but can't agree on a middle. Kieran Xavier is another possibility. I prefer that one to Sebastian actually, and DH is big on Xavier (I prefer James as MN, but he won't budge, so). The repeating "ier"s look strange to my eye, but it sounds nice enough.
Still stuck for a girl. We agree well enough on Genevieve (Evie), but can't find a MN to save our lives. I sort of liked Rose, but DH nixed it. Need something with one or two syllables, preferably without re-using S, E, D, A, G, or M (our last name). I have a thing about repeating letters apparently. I also tend to go for things a little more classic in the MN department since we always choose more obscure options in the 400s-500s for first names. I also like Claire somewhat, but I'm lukewarm on how it pairs with Genevieve. Any suggestions?
We need to figure this out! DH will likely know the sex of the baby by this Friday (and I want to stay in the dark), so I'm hoping to be able to have the naming thing mostly figured out by then.

@Bluebird2318 do you like Genevieve Lorraine? Lorraine was/is on my list for a MN, if we're able to have a girl in the future I'm still hoping to use it!
@lindsey61811 I feel like Emma/Amelia/Mia names are more popular now so don't let it stop you especially if you love it! Each state is a bit different too, I like to look at the state popularity lists & doing a search on the ssa site by individual names seeing the chart over the years... Emily is a timeless name, not a trendy one, so even though it may have had a peak in popularity recently I feel like it's one that will always feel classic & pretty.
I was given a "trendy" name that was super popular & peaked in the 80s/90s & is now nowhere near the top 400...my husband's name is one that'll probably always be around the top 20 most popular names for boys. We're both on board with going with a less popular name if possible since we've always known multiple people with the same first names as us, so we want our kids names to be different (but not TOO different lol).
We just found out we are having another boy and we are struggling to agree on a name. I have several I like...but haven't had that "aha" moment yet! DS's name is Parker and it was the last name of my grandparents (who meant the world to me). I want to find another name I love just as much!
Short List: Brooks Kellan (DH's favorite) Preston (my favorite but I have a cousin with the same name and I'm not sure if my aunt will be okay with it)
@hope4rads I like Preston and Kellan if you'e open to suggestions: Rhett Cameron Samuel Dalton Logan Landon Warren Grant Graham Grayson Payton Blake Harrison Beau

Oh and congrats on baby boy!
@Gators&BoSox Thank you! I love suggestions. :-) Your name list is right up my alley....DH and I have talked about some of these!
@hope4rads no problem! I'm not sure if it was mentioned earlier on this thread but there is a site called magicbabynames.com where you can type in names you like and it gives you similar ones. If you haven't checked it out yet it's a nice tool.
Gators that is a good list! Seems in line with some of the boy names on our short list too. We haven't narrowed it down much past our 10-12 names since we don't know yet so still just collecting ideas for the next couple weeks!

One interesting thing to note regarding popularity of names, is that the top 10 these days is nothing like the top 10 of when we were kids. The top 10 when you were growing up consisted of individual names that were 2-7% of the total births. For example, the top #1 name for boys or girls were usually 5% of total male or female births.
However, today there is good news! Even the #1 top name is only 1% of total male or female births!
The top 20 names when we were growing up consisted of like 50% of the names. Today, that number is closer to 15-20% of the names.
In summary, even if you pick a top 10 name it's nowhere near as popular as names when we were growing up.
These videos below really show how far we have come. It's amazing how the distribution of names today is across 100s if not 1000s of names these days!
@pandalily thanks! if baby was to be a boy we only had one name on our list: Alistair ... but I love suggesting names for other people lol it's like a riddle
I think we might have settled on a name! It's not my very favorite, but it is one that both of us like. My DH came to me yesterday and said he thought we could compromise with Cora. I'm so thrilled that it's on my list and not a made up Lord of the Rings sounding name like he usually likes! Does anyone have any suggestions for a middle name? Our last name is one syllable, starts with H and ends with T.
@kap1988 Cora is so cute! And I feel like it could work well with a shorter or longer MN, depending on if you want all three names to be short and sweet. Cora Mae Cora Belle Cora Penelope Cora Violet Cora Madeline

Awww I love all of those! Thanks for the fresh ideas!
@kap1988, @datalover13, Cora Mae is adorable! I love it as a two-part name. I might call her "Cora Mae" all the time instead of just Cora (which is very sweet on its own too).
More a funny story... trying to talk DH into Dashiell... we have a couple other names I'm "meh" on... So sitting around Sunday convo went like this: Me: "T, can you say Atticus?" T: *weird look* "Atticus? Me: "How about Dash?" T: "I don't wike dat name"
And then DH starts cackling so I'm pretty sure he got to my toddler.

@datalover13 I ask my toddler to say the potential names too!!
I love this thread, thre have been some super sweet names suggested! (Some of which are now on my short list! Thanks ladies!) my name choice has been changing almost daily the last few weeks... like in that episode of I love Lucy where she has decided on a new baby name in each scene... that's me. Dh won't discuss names seriously with me until closer to the due date for that reason lol
So DH & I are still 100% unsure what we're going to name our son, but we do agree we don't want to share our final name choice with others until the birth. (I'll still share on here once we ever decide on the name lol) but I'm already tired of people asking me about the name, so I told a couple people we're naming him Elton Tobiah (and calling him ET of course) just to get them to stop asking. A few know I'm joking since it's not a name we ever talked about & it's not one I ever liked or considered, but now Elton's actually starting to grow on me lol
We decided last night that baby boy will be named Kyle Quinn. We are going to share the first name, but keep the middle name quiet till he's here so we can have a little secret for a while.

Man oh Man. I HAD the name picked out. I was done. I had even started telling strangers bc well its not family ofc they have to wait lol. Annabelle Jane. Annabelle bc I love the variety of nicknames and Jane for my husbands favorite grandmother.
Initially I was on the fence about using my middle name bc I like it - Rae Then I was on the fence about using my MILs middle name but a niece was already given that middle name - Lynn
THEN... it dawned on me last night. I can use them all
RaeLynn Jane - I know its not the smoothest sounding name at first and Im not saying I'm in love with it more than Annabelle but how neat for my little girl to be named after her mama, grandmother and great grandmother??!
Annabelle is was one of my faves too for the same reason but it's my dad's dog's name so nope lol... In general RaeLynn is not a favorite of mine since it's considered a "made up" name but considering your reasoning, it may be uniquely suited to you. What does DH think?
Gators&BoSox haha I remembered you saying that about your Dad's dog! TBH the hubs is kinda eh about both names but he's not contributing much either. He was SO opinionated about DS's name - which he ended up picking - that we joked if we had a girl next I'd pick. I feel like he's super sticking to that. lol
Early on he liked Ameila and Olivia (Olivia Grace was our name if DS was a girl) which I love as well but just dont want them bc they are SO popular now in our circles.
@vino831 I actually like RaeLynn over Annabelle! I feel like Annabelle is more of a trendy name right now & RaeLynn is more unique...they're both pretty but I like the personal connections you described wih Raelynn
@serenity13 trendy nooooo ;-) hahaha I'm only kinda trying to avoid that since my sons name is starting to become pretty popular.
Gators&BoSox that it feels made up but at least I've got time to let them stew - and who knows I have a few months for something else to pop in my mind.
Oh but I also forgot to add the other reason that RaeLynn Jane is cool.
My husband is a Jr and his initials are RJS. When we had our son we decided against making him a third. So it would be kind neat for him to have another little RJS. Silly but still another little something
@mcdonald-bailey My daughter's middle name will be Evelyn- I think that sounds good with Rose. My friend just had a baby girl and her middle name is Rose and her first name is Alexis. I know its not one of the letters you suggested but sounded good with Rose too. Or Dusty Rose like Adam Levine's daughter lol
@Spartanrd4 DH actually suggested the name Dusty Rose before Adam Levine announced that was his baby name. I thought that was funny. Having a hard time naming this baby so hopefully she'll have a name by February.
@vino831 I also love RaeLynn! It gives off a pretty tomboy vibe to me, and it will be super cute on a little girl and a really beautiful name to grow into!
DH and I are having so much trouble naming our little boy. We have been really liking Harrison Stanley, the names of each of our godfathers, who we are very close to. DH really really wants a "meaningful" name associated with family, but the trouble is there aren't that many men with names we like in our family. Stanley even as a middle name we were on the fence about, but we like how quirky it is paired with Harrison. And we have been trying to think of even last names or places that would be a good first name.... and none of them will work that have real meaning to us.
We both started to LOVE the first name Oscar - the more I say it out loud, I really do like it. I think most people either love it or hate it, or think of Oscar the Grouch- but now we can't decide if we go the meaningful family route, or scrap the connection must-have and just pick a name we like. DH is named for his uncle who died the day before he was born, so I think it weighs heavily on him for our boy to have a meaningful name.

Genevieve Claire? I think that sounds beautiful! So classy.
Another one not using those letters.. maybe Lynn?
