I am pumping, so I sanitize the pumping parts I use once each day by boiling them for 10 minutes. When I am not using them, I keep them in a gallon Ziploc bag in the refrigerator (next to the milk bag I am filling for the day).
Gross story: I went to make the simple banana/granola/chocolate chip lactation cookies I have seen recommended, as I had 4 bananas about to go bad. When I opened the granola that has been haunting the back of our cereal cabinet, something about it looked off, like it was dusty. Then I noticed the bottom of the cardboard container was moldy. It turns out that the granola was "Best by" December 2013! That's before we bought our house, so we MOVED expired granola. I guess I don't have my act together as much as I thought I did, haha.
Thanks everyone! Nice to know I can let up a bit with that whole routine. I saw the sanitizers, registered for and got one, and just figured it was what I had to do.... did I mention FTM...lol. I sanitize the soothers whenever they hit the floor as we have a very large fluffy dog and I haven't been vacuuming/steaming the floors as much as I should be.
Pretty sure if I have caffeine it's affecting LO makes me so sad! Each time I've had it, it's taken 5 HOURS to get LO to settle down. Not worth it. I'll try again in a few months when she's bigger.
I was told not to sanitize anything. That warm soapy water was good enough. Apparently microwaving isn't good for that stuff. It can damage the plastic and just isn't necessary.

What about dishwasher? Or is the heat dry considered sanitizing also?
I think the dishwasher is fine so long as it's on the top rack. Mostly you want to avoid microwaving and boiling (submerging in boiling water). But I'm only going by what my hospital told me at the classes I took.
Exclusive FF here so we go through a lot of bottles, we put all bottles, nipples etc in the dishwasher with the sanitize function. We did this with DS1 as well, bottles and nipples all lasted while DS1 used them.
We bought a "cage" to wash nipples and pacifiers in the dishwasher this time around, so much easier, no lost bottle parts
I saw those things @AMT1107 they seem like a great invention! I almost got one myself, but then we decided not to use the dishwasher. I may regret that when I'm using bottles, but we will see!
sirry to just disappear! Work plus being home alone has been pretty tough.
Was only aupoosed ti wirk mon and fri. But our staffing is critically low and boss said she needed me. Had to take baby to work with me on tues while I was reaching out to friends to help me cover weds and thurs. Thought it would be great to have baby at work. It was not. She didn't like not being able to lay down. The car seat in the stroller wasn't a good napping substitute for her
I have spelling errors here and I'm too tired / lazy to fix them. As an aside I HATE the new iPhone software upgrade.
There really isn't anything on TV at 6am. Baby has been doing her nightly grunting/groaning for the last two and a half hours, which I can't sleep through. Of course tonight this grunting period is when she is going longer between feeds.
Another random thought - I was disappointed in the Wonder Weeks book. I felt it was very repetitive in saying that there would be a leap but I don't think it really helped me in anyway. Maybe I had too high expectations (I had read so many great reviews about it being super helpful)
@jensou sorry to hear that about work. I hope it gets better.
@CDE20 Netflix has been my friend for night time feeds. I usually watch sitcom type shows because each show is about the length of time he tends to nurse on each side. Friends is currently the show I'm binge watching while feeding.
@jensou I can't imagine going back to work already...ugh! Sorry it didn't go the best for the first week. And too bad you had to take baby with you. That sounds rough! If I had to do that I would likely bring my rock n play, but even then I don't know if she'd like being there in the first place! Either way, I hope it gets better for you.
Im struggling with any kind of tv lately. DH and I watch a lot of shows together so I have to wait to watch all of our good shows. Daytime tv sucks. I watch a lot of on demand and I suppose I could switch over to Netflix too.
@jenkar01 thanks. Hopefully minimal interruptions from work on this 3 day weekend and my MIL is coming today (maybe?) LOL
@CDE20 you have to be ready to do it but once we put baby in her crib w the white noise machine on for her, I could sleep. Those babies are such noisy sleepers! The baby monitor I put on lower volume and i definitely know when she cries
@jenkar01 I love Friends. Anytime reruns are on tv, I turn it on. I ended up watching A League of Their Own this morning. I wanted to watch the Cougar Town series with Courteney Cox but it's not streaming anywhere so I am slowly DVRing it.
@jensou I hope I'll get used to the sounds. I've started doing white noise the last two nights and it's pretty loud next to me, but baby is next to me too. I am pretty sure the grunting is gas so I actually videoed it to talk to the pediatrician about. We've done gas drops and they don't seem to help.
@rock1cherry DH and I enjoy watching tv together. Now with the new seasons all starting, it's been so difficult to watch anything together. I really thought, especially with a newborn, that we'd be able to still watch shows together but that hasn't really happened yet. I just watched Notorious because he wasn't interested in it, and it was really good. I need to find another 1/2 hour show to watch on Netflix or Hulu. I watch reruns of How I Met Your Mother or Greys Anatomy during the day a lot.
Netflix and Hulu have been my friend! I have been putting on hour long shows though. I don't sit and watch the whole thing most days but it's on and I can listen. SO and I try to watch shows together but one of us always watch ahead.
@jensou I second the rock and play, my daughter loves being in there. Hopefully you won't have to take her to work often. It can't be easy. Oh, and a carrier, a wrap would work well, I think.
@jensou that sounds rough being alone and getting back into work! I need to look at Netflix too. I've been watching way too much hgtv. I've heard Stranger Things and The Ranch are good...
@jellybienhn I did the same at first, I would boil everything after each use, but then started to notice my bottle would deteriorate and looked up online and it is so not necessary, most people wash with warm water and soap. So now that is what I do, and it made life so much more simple. I would always sterilize when I first get them though.
@jensou Why do you hate the new upgrade, I still have not upgraded my Iphone and you are not the first person who says they don't like it but no one is being specific...
@hejo2016 Stranger things is really good!! Definitely watch. Luke Cage is also awesome (if you like it also watch Daredevil and Jessica Jones if you have not) I am a big fan of Marvel and love what Netflix is doing with these characters!!

@hejo2016 I have 2 different diffusers. One is from Doterra and the other is SpaMist I think. The Doterra one is nice because it has two modes...constant flow or intervals. The SpaMist is significantly cheaper but does the job only has continuous flow. I bought several of the SpaMist because I wanted one for like every room of my house and $40-60 for a Doterra one was not in the budget
@Alyeena where do I start? Some things are just muscle memory so not swiping to get in to my phone and then having to swipe a little to respond to things on the lock screen instead of just tapping is annoying.
My biggest complaint is that all my keyboard shortcuts are gone. I had tons in there... Ad1 for my address at home Ad2 work address, etc. it was such a time saver and I put a lot of time and effort into those a while ago. I have redone many but just don't have a ton of time (who does right now??)
im trying to decide if there is any part of the upgrade that I like.
Of course you're going to have to do it sometime because the software will all be reflected in the apps as they get updated and eventually won't be compatible. Grrr
Sorry to be gone for so long Bumpies. We had one heck of a weekend after my crazy first week back to work. Started w Hurricane Matthew pounding my house and flooding us in. We live in coastal VA and severity was under forecasted. Two of our cars were up to the doors in water. We're drying them out now.
Daughter came home home for a college visit upstate that was 4h drive away compounded by baby stops. So basically eternity yesterday driving about 10h there and back. Fortunately she helped w drive.
MIL is here and driving me batty. She can be super helpful for which I am very grateful but in between she meddles so much. I'm almost 40 years old - but she is very bossy about what I should be doing or what the baby should be doing. She was giving directions on how I should burp her. Grrrr
i just say "thanks" now to every comment and choose to listen or ignore in my own mind.
Wow- lots of complaining! On a happy note, my little lovely is 8w old today!
I can't focus at work. I'm trying but can't. Glad to be back and I miss baby while I'm here but can't focus to make the day go faster. Oh and doesn't help hubby and I have been sick for a week now - colds suck big monkey toe.
@jensou I went ahead and upgraded it, figured I should do it someday, and yes to the muscle memory things omg. I always swipe and get so irritated. Guess I will just have to get used to it lol.
Sorry about hurricane Matthew, is there much damage to your house and cars?

My LO slept for an almost 6 hour stretch overnight! I set my alarm for 5 hours after he fell asleep, when my alarm went off I of course ran and checked on him because he has never slept that long, and he was fine. So I went and pumped and layed back down and he woke me about an hour later.
I haven't experienced the 5 hours stretch. My SO has been setting an alarm every 4 hours at night because he is afraid to let Xavier go longer than that. Finally think I convinced him to let Xavier tell us when he is hungry at night. We'll see if he goes longer than 4 hours.
My MIL insists that 4h is too long to go without feeding baby. I have told her that Victoria is gaining weight and if she's not crying, she's obviously not hungry. She just feeds her anyway while I'm gone and it's maddening. Night time I'm in charge and you better believe if the miracle of 4 hours (or more) happens I will not be waking her up. She's 8 weeks old now. When she was tiny and wasn't gaining enough I woke her every 2h for a week. We're not going back there!
One week more more of MIL. It's my mantra. I can do this!
@chavezrd2 I LOL'ed at big monkey toe. I was so spacey when I went back. The first night I was a ditz after work and just randomly walking around my house trying to figure out what to do next to prepare for the next day. I had forgot how to do a bunch of stuff as I had recently taken over a supervisory role right before having baby. Couldn't remember how to run some reports and kicked out of a lot of systems for not signing in within 30 days. Super annoying.
@Alyeena I also don't like the new texting features. Why the heck would I want to take the time to put two fingers on my phone for this and drag one finger down for that. The drawing is kind of cool but I just use it for juvenile things like smily faces. The camera thing in message is ok
thanks all for support re: Hurricane Matthew. We had so little to deal with in comparison to others. Carpet in the car will dry out and can be shampooed later. Weren't out of power long enough to lose food. Just a leak in the roof where shingles blew off and downed tree limbs, bushes uprooted to clean up. So grateful to be as lucky as we were. My hubby is home in a week so I'll let him deal with a lot of it ... Welcome home, dear!
@jensou good luck with the mil, you are almost there! And 8 weeks is plenty old enough to go 4 hrs. You all need the rest! Mine is only 2.5 weeks and gaining well so I go by her cues. I find I wake up every 3 hours and wait for her to start rooting! She slept a good 4 hour stretch last night and I couldn't sleep for an hour of it (we are in a hotel and some neighbors must get off on the thrill of waking others up with their ridiculous sex life, I was so mad!). The only reason I would wake a baby is if they aren't gaining.
Truly random, checking in to make sure everyone is registered to vote! There is still time. If you moved, make sure you've updated your registration. If you aren't sure, Google "am I registered to vote?" (like I did!) and follow the link.
