@soontobeshrader - sorry to hear! Next month!

@viabug - I'm experiencing the same thing, I'm 3 days late for no good reason other than to torture me! This was our break month so I though the anxiety of waiting for AF wouldn't be here this month!

  • Hi, sorry for being missing, its been a crazy few days.  I went in on Monday for an u/s check and I had two amazing follicles at 21 and 22mm.  Dr was actually worried I would ovulate on my own so we triggered right at the office and then I went in Tuesday for an IUI.

I was really please then that my husband and I had tried something new on Sunday night.  He suffers from delayed ejaculations, so we tried out "The Stork" product and it worked really well for us.  I'm really glad we did, just in case the follicles popped early.

As for insurance, it is just so variable!  Mine covers 3 months of hormone manipulation, but it doesn't cover the sperm wash, for example.  So we are paying bits and pieces.  But after three months they will pay nothing, and no sort of IVF is covered.  :-(  This is IUI #2 so I hope that this or the next one works.  Oh, and it is lifetime use, so even if it does work, I won't get to use the insurance to try for another child, for example.
  • My insurance covers me 80% for a $5000 lifetime total of Fertility Drugs, a govt program covers the IUI (I don't know of a cap) but not the sperm wash. So it'll be about $600 out of pocket each round for us.
Our govt just changed how you qualify for one IVF round (used to have a bilateral blockage) to being diagnosed infertile but now the wait list is into mid-2018. They told me if we needed IVF - by that time it's expected to be in to 2019, I can get on the wait list and use it for a second try or even a second child if we wanted to pay for the first try.

  • @madasm0530 I'm sorry you're not seeing the follie growth you want. It's great that your office is so on top of the monitoring, but stressful when they call you back in and you don't know why. Did they give you any indication?

@soontobeshrader I'm sorry you're out. Good luck getting your blood pressure back down. I hope you're back in the game soon! And for now, do something special for yourself.

@viabug and @jwatt5 Sorry about AF! I hope she stops dilly-dallying.

@mrsdrwombat That's great news on the follies! I hope your IUI is a success! What is this Stork product? I've never heard of it (and apparently am too lazy to Google). Also that is so annoying about your insurance. I know it's all up to your employer but three months over a lifetime seems ridiculously low--although I know we should be grateful when insurance covers IF treatments at all. It would be great if this could be standardized. It's a horrible game of just how bankrupt will these procedures make me?

AFM I also vanished, but I had a good scan this morning (two 19s and a 12). Looking at Tuesday for IUI#3 if I don't O while we're away this weekend. (TI in that case.)

I also found out this morning that my insurance--which thankfully does cover IUI and monitoring--declined the second of three u/s I had to do for monitoring during my first IUI cycle back in August. So now I have to figure out how to appeal that. Why would you cover the first and third, but not the second?

  • @viabug and @JWatt5 that's so frustrating! My RE told me to call if I hit cycle day 40 with no period, and sure enough, that's what ended up happening. He had me come in for an ultrasound and blood work to make sure nothing majorly funky was happening and then put me on Provera to get things moving. I hate the way this slows everything down...if you're still waiting in a couple days, maybe call to see if your RE wants you to do anything? Hopefully it will fix itself really quickly!

@mrsdrwombat and @Bababatty yay for good follies! Hopefully this will be your month!
  • @skysong113 - I've been considering calling them. I'm always regular. my Sono this month to check my uterus/tubes cause quite a bit of bleeding and being put on antibiotics so I'm a little worried. I'm going to wait until this evening - I have the dang cramps!

    @mrsdrwombat and @Bababatty - that's exciting!!

  • Sorry for the bfn @soontobeshrader! It sucks. Hope you can do something nice for yourself.

As for me, H and I are supposed to drive 2.5 hours away tomorrow morning for our IUI, but there's this massive f'n hurricane on the way here. So, we are trying to figure out what to do. We are under mandatory evacuation but if we didn't have the IUI, I would not be leaving. My big dilemma is whether we will be able to get back home - we can take back roads (eastbound interstate is closed), but who drives into a hurricane?? I tried to book a hotel room in Augusta and they were already sold out yesterday afternoon, plus we have three dogs and a cat to figure out too. We may just pack up the dogs and take them with us and pack for a few days in case we can't get back. Y'all say a prayer or send some good vibes out for us, please.

Anyone else on here who will be affected? Hope everyone stays safe!

  • @fivetimesnoluck oh my! Good luck getting to your IUI and I hope something works out afterwards! Stay safe! I'll keep you in my thoughts!
  • @Bababatty  The stork is basically a semi-complicated way to get a cervical cap full of semen in place.  The man makes his deposit in a condom-like sheath that has a cervical cap in it.  Then you roll the cap out, put it in an applicator and with many buttons and plungers you can get it up right at the cervix.  You leave it in for 4 hours and there is a string to help get it out.  My husband has delayed ejaculation that means he usually has to finish by hand.  Not great for baby-making.  So we used this to make sure that even if I ovulated early there were some spermies around to meet that egg.   They are pretty spendy (about 75 a pop) but for his particular issue they work well.  Oh, and they are one use, which sucks.
  • @madasm0530 - just a question - My RE will probably have me go with Gonal F injections. Did you have any side effects?

  • TGIF! Just got with our third and final IUI. Had a good count (10 million, our best yet!), went in with a full bladder, and heard Rod Stewart on the radio on the way there - so, of course I'm totes knocked up. (H and I have a running joke about Rod Stewart being our spirit animal.)

Now, we just need to make our way through a hurricane to get back home to our pets and families. It's kinda crazy, but it's what we are doing. (Headed from Augusta to Savannah.)

@madasm0530 - just a question - My RE will probably have me go with Gonal F injections. Did you have any side effects?

I just finished my first round of Gonal-f injections. Aside from bruising at the injection site I had no side effects!

  • Hey Pals - I was MIA most of last week, work is really starting to pick up for me. I had an u/s this morning and the timing of my insanely slow follies and Hs work travel we're moving to TI this cycle. I'll trigger Wednesday. I am bummed that this is where we are, but what do you do really?

  • @madasm0530 Sorry to hear that! Hopefully TI works out for you, FX!

@fivetimesnoluck Hope you're still doing well and the weather hasn't been too crazy, good luck in your TWW!

AFM, today is FINALLY cycle day 1, ultrasound tomorrow and hopefully moving forward. I feel like everything should be okay, since I had an ultrasound a couple weeks ago due to not getting AF, but I'm still nervous that something went wrong and I have a cyst or something...

Thank you!! @madasm0530 - bummer you had to switch but TI Is much better than no trying at all! FX for you guys!

I just had my day3 appointment - nice Thanksgiving Day treat (Canada). AF finally showed up late Friday. I've never had a cycle over 29 days and this one was 34!! They set me up with my pen - put me on Puregon rather than Gonal F. First injection is tonight - super nervous!

@skysong113 - you'll feel better hopefully after that ultrasound!

  • Hi Everyone!!!

Month/Cycle- To be honest, I don't even know how many months we have been trying... but I just got my 3rd anniversary badge from the bump. So a while!!!

    CD- 4

WAYDTGKU- Gonal-F, Ovidrel, Back to Back IUI's

    IUI Date- TBD

Testing- Way too much bloodwork and ultrasounds :)

What is the thing you are most looking forward to doing this autumn?
    Cider and Donuts!

Wishing everyone successful IUI's this month. My husband and I took the summer off to get back to a positive place. We have been trying for so long that we were both feeling completely overwhelmed and just sad. I'm going into this month with a clear head and some long overdue excitement. Can't wait to hear everyone's outcome!

  • @dani4est welcome! FX that this is your cycle! Glad to hear about the clear head and the excitement

@BecauseLove Good luck on your IVF journey! I'll miss seeing you around, you're always so supportive, but hopefully you'll get your BFP soon!
  • @BecauseLove Good luck to you!!

@madasm0530  Sorry to hear that you had to switch to TI but glad that you still get to try the cycle.  Fx for you!

@skysong113  So happy to hear that AF finally arrived.  Hoping for everything to look great tomorrow for your u/s.  Let us know how it goes!

@dani4est  Welcome to the board!  I really admire how you took the summer off.  This whole process is so emotionally taxing so I'm glad you took that brave step to take care of yourselves.  It must have been hard.  Excited to hear how your first cycle back goes!

  • @BecauseLove  Good luck with the IVF!

@madasm0530 It sucks to have to cancel an IUI, that's what happened to us last cycle and the doctor told me don't even bother to trigger, since I had no follies even close to ready and we were leaving the country for a couple weeks.  It's good you can still trigger and time things at least, but you're right, there's just not much you can do when luck doesn't cooperate.

Insurance... If there's a bright spot in all this for me is that I work for a state that mandates IF coverage, and my (top notch but very expensive) insurance plan covers damn near every cent of the IF stuff with just standard copays.  I've never even talked to the billing department, it's just all filtered through just like if I like, broke a leg or something.  Honestly, if insurance didn't cover it, we wouldn't be doing any of this.

And my update as of my u/s this morning... We have a 25mm follie!  That's far and away the largest I've had since we've been monitoring, and the fastest; this was my CD12 u/s, and even the doctor was like "wow ok that's unexpected".  Looks like something worked right, whether it was taking an unexpected break last cycle or the upped dose of letrozole or all of the above combined.  Part of me hates to get my hopes up, but I've also never had results like this, so FX I guess.

And hope everyone affected by the storm this weekend is safe and sound!
  • @BecauseLove We'll miss you in the IUI threads, but best of luck on your IVF! I hope you'll be in the TWW thread so we can stay updated. Rooting for you!

@dani4est Welcome! I'm glad you took some time for yourselves this summer. I think everyone needs a break sometimes.

@skysong113 and @jwatt5 Glad AF finally showed for you both so you can get started again!  Good luck with this cycle!

@madasm0530 I'm sorry you had to cancel the IUI. I can imagine how frustrating that must be. FX the TI works!

@Sasha29 That is a great follie size! Good luck!

AFM CD14 here and we did IUI#3 this morning. True to form, DH's total motile count went down again (1.7 million, the lowest yet), and his motile percentage was 21%--it's been around there for every SA and IUI. It's really great to know you're probably out and you only just started your TWW. Feeling frustrated this morning.

We're finally seeing the urologist who specializes in reproductive issues tomorrow, so we'll see what he says.
  • @Shasha29  Wow!  That is great news.  I am also trying to not get my hopes up too much but I had follies at 22 and 21 which was very encouraging.  Best of luck!

@bababatty I'm so sorry that you are feeling frustrated.  I'm so glad you are going to see a urologist and I hope they can give you some insight and some steps to take to get you where you guys want to be.  Best of luck.
  • @Sasha29 Go follie go! FX for you!

@Bababatty Thanks! Hope the urologist can help and has some ideas for you.

@mrsdrwombat Those sound like some good follies, good luck!

My ultrasound yesterday went well (big relief!), the RE said everything looked good and my left ovary actually shifted position a little and was easier to see, so I guess that's good  I start Letrozole today, and I've been on a steroid since CD1. I go back day 12 for a follie check!
  • @becauselove Good Luck with IVF!!

@Bababatty - Thank you - and sorry you are having to go through such a frustrating time, hopefully get some answers from the urologist.

@Sasha29 @mrsdrwombat  I don't think there's anything wrong with getting your hopes up with this good news - hope is good.

@skysong113 Glad your ultrasound went well - just a funny month for us both!

I started the Puregon and so far - feel completely normal, no bruising. I do however put on quite a display for DH getting the nerve up to actually do it. Lots of dancing around shouting I can do it! I got a call though saying my Thyroid number is too high so I started medication for that yesterday. I go back CD8 for my first ultrasound to see what's happening with my follicles.

  • Hi everybody! Hope you all are doing well.

I am wishing you all the luck as you pursue IVF, @BecauseLove - we will definitely miss you here.

@Bababatty I am sorry for the frustrating numbers. It's definitely hard to have hope when you feel the odds are stacked against you.

Welcome back from your break, @dani4est - taking time for our own mental health is so important. I am excited for you to have a good outlook and good result this cycle!

As for me, I don't have a ton of time, but just wanted to report that I survived Hurricane Matthew! We have a couple of trees down and some water damage inside from wind-blown rain, but we came out ok! Unfortunately, we are still without power, but I am back at work today and trying to get back into real life.

I am 5 dpIUI and feeling great. The hurricane and its aftermath have proven a great distraction. Too much else to do!

Want to catch up with each of you, but I have to tend to much work. Please forgive me if I don't get to you! xo

  • @Bababatty  Definitely hit up the urologist... Honestly, DH had some motility issues that were fixed to well within normal ranges fairly easily.  I'm frustrated for you that your clinic put you through three IUI's knowing his counts were an issue, that's one of those things that just gets me so angry for other women, how this stuff is all seen as our problem, when issues on the male side are every bit as common and a lot of times much easier to diagnose.

@mrsdrwombat  FX for you!  It's so encouraging to have a jump in good follies after months of "well they're just barely ready so we can go."

@LoweeeK  LOL my DH always whines about collection times. He's just not a morning person at all, and half the time I want to kick him... I get up at 5:30 to get to most of my appointments so I can avoid taking too much time off work!  GL!
  • Good luck with IVF @BecauseLove!  I hope to join you there soon!  Woo hoo.

Good luck to all the October iui ladies!!!! ❤️️
