I don't like apples. All of the apple recipes on the autumn recipes make me want to gag!
the story behind my apple hatred: when i was 18 on a night all we drank was an apple flavoured shot & & i was very very ill & could taste apples for weeks. As a result even the smell of anything apple flavoured still turns me!

I got sick off Rumplemintze (sp?) and for a long time after that, I couldn't stand anything mint-flavored. I'm good now but at the time, mint made me want to hork.
My UO is that Adele's music is getting really old. How many times does she have to sing about being "over" the same dude and having moved on before she convinces herself she's really over him? We get it, Adele. You've moved on. You don't have to include that detail in every song you write.

I could never get into her. My music UO: I enjoy EDM. Especially Dubstep.
@Janefelicity and @BumpasaurusRex I had a whole thing typed out about Rumple Minze!! Then I saw BumpasaurusRex had it too lol... I won't put my whole post but I had too much Rumple Minze and had to switch tooth paste for several years lol and I avoided anything minty at all costs lol I also got over it, but I still won't drink the Rumple Minze.

Add me to list of mint haters due to over indulging on Rumple Minze. I still won't eat candy canes and only buy cinnamon toothpaste.
I can never think of anything that is like an unpopular opinion, at least off the top of my head. I generally end up coming into this thread and being like yes I agree with that, and that, and that.
Bahahaha! I would say "no chance" but my 2.5-year-old tailored playlist through my streaming service of choice is now only accessible through paid subscription. So, starting from scratch on a new service. Hopefully I can weed out the whiny/annoying drivel again without too much effort.

UO: I love the idea of Santa and plan to integrate this into our holiday celebrations for as many years as I can. We've always told DS what Christmas is about, the spirit of giving, etc. but I love the magic of it all.
I firmly believe that my kids won't grow up one day pondering why their parents lied to them all those years.

That can't be an UO. I'm Jewish and I love Santa and Christmas and now get to celebrate it because I married a non Jew. I love it!

Believe it or not, some of our parent friends have recently decided to do away with Santa because they feel it's lying to their kids. I mean, I get the sentiment but come on, it's just for fun. Sometimes the world can be a little shitty so why not create some magic? What's the harm?

I see some flaws in their logic. Team Santa all the way.

We STILL have Santa at my parents house. I'm 30. We love it! It is totally about the magic. Plus, who doesn't lie to their kids? My dad told me I couldn't date til I was 30- he said it was a new law. My cousin told his kids every toy they asked for was $1 billion in the store. I say lie away!

My husband is Jewish and I'm not so we celebrate Hanukkah and Christmas every year. Both my kids will be raised more on the Jewish side but we still plan on integrating all of the christmas traditions. Sending letters to Santa, leaving cookies & milk and opening presents xmas morning. We also intend on doing the tooth fairy and Easter bunny.
People say raising children with both religions will confuse them. I firmly disagree and think they'll just be more knowledgeable and can decide for themselves as they get older what they want or don't want to believe/celebrate.
also, I have no problem lying to my kids when it comes to make believe. I was seriously pissed at my parents when I found out it was all BS but that lasted about a day and I'm actually grateful I got to experience it growing up.

I have seen the argument about not wanting to lie to your kids and I have also seen people say that they "spend a lot of money and don't want to give credit to someone else for presents". Like you do realize eventually your kids will know who bought the gifts and will appreciate it but at 6 how much credit are they really giving you? My mom still marks gifts for us as from Santa.

I have one friend and then my own sister who shame anyone who 'plays the Santa game.' Because Santa apparently discriminates and some kids get more presents than others, so it's best to remove Santa entirely. Also, lying to your children is grounds for immediate parental judgment, because heaven forbid a small child has magical moments in their lives.
My older sister told me Santa was fake when I was 4, and it always made me scratch my head. She will be nowhere around my kids when it comes time for Santa.

LMAO @ "spend a lot money and don't want to give credit to someone else for presents".
It's SANTA ffs

I was a weird kid I guess. I never believed Santa was real. My mom would try to get us into it and I'd be all "sure mom, I'll leave out cookies for Santa" *wink* And then I'd leave out cheese and beer.
My UO is that I do not understand why they've made 27 different remakes of Cinderella. I like that they're finally making Beauty and the Beast. I really would like to see Mulan remade though. That girl was a badass.
@PerraSucia the checkout people at the register are always forgetting to put the crap my kids asked for at the store in the bag and I never notice until we get home. It's so weird. I'm sure my 9 year old has caught on but he fortunately just rolls his eyes at me when he hears me tell his sister that lie.
Aww I love doing Santa stuff... my son just turned 10 and I think he knows the truth, but he hasn't actually flat out told me, so right now I'm trying to decide if I think he'll play along on his own, or if I should just tell him so he doesn't spoil it for our daughter, who is 7 and still believes. In fact last year, we had to let the fireplace go out, because our daughter didn't want Santa to get burned lol and when we go through big cities with those beautiful tall churches, she thinks they are actually princess castles. Our son tries to squash it, but I cut him off. I think it's sweet to let them have this time to believe in whatever makes them happy. The real world will be here for them soon enough.
And where my mom lives, the Township does this Santa sleigh thing, and you drop your own gifts (1 per person getting a gift, with a special address label) off at the firestation, then volunteers get sent out on Christmas eve dressed as Santa, on a sleigh driven by vehicles though, and they drive by your house and call you by name to deliver you a gift. I'll be 30 next week and my mom still puts a gift in with my name on it.
My UO: I don't like bumper stickers, or window decals for vehicles. They are so weird. Who cares if you love your dogs, and I dont care if you have an honor student. Today I saw a sticker that said "my dog is smarter than your honor student" it was super weird, mixing the 2 together. And the ones that show which person you are voting for in election is strange too. It was funny when Obama got voted in and people still had the stickers on for McCain. I've seen some funny ones, but in general I just find them odd.
@kswiger06 I can't do bumper stickers either. I mean, I LOVE stickers. But I hate putting them on things because, *gasp* whatever gets stickered may be replaced someday. I realize how illogical it is to be arguably more attached to the darn sticker than to my car/computer/whatever vastly more valuable item would otherwise be stickered. But I can't help it. The only one I ever put on is a small black cutout of my state with a tiny clear heart over the area I live, and it's on a very sentimental vehicle I know I'll never be able to part with.

This is why I buy the magnet bumper stickers, I can do my political ones without having to worry about still having the loser sticker up on my car. Also if I think I am a neighborhood where I think someone may key my car cause I have a hillary sticker on my car, I can take it off. It works well
I don't like bumper stickers either but Hubs has stickers ALL OVER his car. it drives me up the wall.
There is a local person who protests outside our local Planned Parenthood. She has a bumper sticker that says "Tired of fighting? Need a weapon? Try the rosary." and I KNOW she's talking about prayer but in my warped head my 1st thought was "well, I guess you can choke someone with it..."
Just a heads up with the magnetic bumper stickers, Be sure to move them around every once in a while. If they are in the same spot for too long it can actually pull paint off your car.
My mom had a magnet bumper sticker on her car of a picture of the kind of dog she has. We went through a car wash with it still on. Wasn't on by the time we got through the car wash haha I'm an asshole for laughing about this I know because she was all sad about it. She had just ordered it and got it like the day before this happened. Neither of us realized until we were already halfway through
Lol at team Santa. I guess that makes mine the UO. It's ok. I used to halfway believe the reason I never got pregnant was because my kids would feel deprived. The hardest part to me will be training my kids not to bust the bubbles of any team Santa kids. We'll see if I cave into the enormous pressure to play along with the various childhood mythologies when they are old enough to feel it. But I hope I will be clever and creative enough, and my kids will be oddball enough like me that we have a life full of imagination and magic and sharing anyhow.
