• I have a TMI question for c-section moms:
So after a c-section you can't get out of bed for about 24 hours and they keep the catheter in your bladder during that time, right? Well what happens if you have to poop?? I'm especially worried because the last time I had antibiotics I had MAJOR diarrhea. Am I going to be able to get up or am I going to poop all over myself?

I was up within 6 hours of surgery with my catheder in. It just feels a bit uncomfortable but you can totally get up with it in. If your mobile enough they might even take it out early. They did for me cause I was able to get up and get to the bathroom on my own without too much trouble. Or else they will bring you a potty chair.

I was also up and walking before my cathedar was out after my c section. They really wanted me up and walking ASAP- I wanna think the cathedar was in for 24 hours. I didnt have to poop though- the pain meds really bound me up.

I would also tell nurses ahead of time about your experience the last time you were on antibiotics.

My baby was born around 4pm and my catheter was removed at 4am so not quite 24 hours. I had the same fear of having to poop. I didn't poop until I was 3 days PP.

• We have our c section moms up at the side of the bed within 4 hours, walking to the door within 8, and walking in the halls by 12 hours. The catheter usually comes out the morning after surgery around 4am! I've never had a mom have to poop in that time, unless they've had hemabate at delivery for bleeding (rarely used- thank god!). And if that's the case they usually use a bed pan.
• Thanks, guys! Glad my fears aren't completely unfounded! I also heard constipation is the more likely problem but you just never know. @serenaxo84 I'm allergic to all antibiotics so the doctors and nurses will all be forewarned!
I can't even picture how one would have a into a bedpan if you can't really control your bottom half and I'm terrified to google it! I'll most likely be in a double room - just my luck this will happen while my roommate's family is visiting!

• @books&icecream don't heisitste to ask for stool softners the next morning, if it ends up the opposite, they help SO MUCH. I can't even rave about them enough. The antibiotics made me constipated too and I also threw up everywhere on the way to the OR and then again before they were going to open me up. Partially it could've been nerves, but I don't think having all those drugs on a empty stomach helped either.

• Annnnnnd was dehydrated. Not sure how, but whatevs. 4cm dilated now! Going home in a couple of hours I guess. UGH.
• I'm annoyed for you, @sjo_thetwins. Why didn't they keep you since you're at a 4?!? That's what I was!

• @books&icecream I think it depends on what else is going on medically...if you had to get a magnesium drip bc of pre-e you have it for 24 hrs post delivery, and you can't get up and walk around on it, so maybe that's what you're thinking of? Yes if you're stuck in bed the catheter stays in, and sometimes after, but usually a catheter is out and they want you up and moving asap under normal circumstances. It's highly unlikely you'd have to poop, between not eating for a while before and after the surgery, meds that constipate, not moving around, etc. If you did poop the nurses would clean you up or I guess if you knew you'd use a bedpan with help. If visitors are in the room you should ask them to leave and give you privacy while the nurses help you....but again I highly doubt you'll poop anytime soon after it. I think for me it was 3 or 4 days PP. I think you only get antibiotics if you're GBS positive or if the status is unknown if you're delivering vaginally, but even then if you are allergic they wouldn't give you meds you're allergic to so I'm not sure what you mean about antibiotics unless you already said and I missed it. Make sure to take all the colace and prune juice!
• @UponAStar16 - she is having a cesarean, so they will give antibiotics empirically due to the invasiveness of surgery.

@books - they say "bedrest" but as others have mentioned (unless there is a dramatic difference in Germany...and there well may be) if you are capable of walking it is very much in your best interest to walk despite the catheter, meaning (obviously) that you will be able to make it to a bedside commode or the toilet. Ask any visitors to leave the room, if they are there. I too have diarrhea with antibiotics, as do many people...I definitely would NOT accept any stool softeners until I knew there was a problem. There's always a bedpan but you won't need to resort to that. But hit that call light early when you start to have a tummy rumble, there's nothing like having to wait on a busy nurse when you gotta go *now*.
• @scostel2 don't worry we will harass you to make sure he is fine in there ;)
• @mrszoess hahaha my husband said the same thing. He said he'll just be like the old Verizon commercials every 10
mins "can you feel him now? Good!"
• @mizzkbrat YAY!!!!!!!

@sjo_thetwins Holy crap lady, you need to have a heart to heart with your girl's and put down the law!! Lol cause that wI'll help, right???

@scostel2 I get that from my hubby now and nothing is wrong - every day I wake up and within minutes I get "has he been active??" Dude I just woke up! I don't feel him when I sleep and I'm pretty sure this kid sleeps in the morning and is up half the night. I hope you get some itch relief though - maybe an oatmeal bath?

• @NoraAurora oh hm....I just got prophylactic IV penicillin during the labor part of my induction when I was still trying for a vaginal delivery because my GBS status was unknown (results not in from the test the day before), and none during or after my cs. Maybe they considered it sufficient having gotten it before the surgery?
• Wow so many things happening since I checked before bed last night!

@sjo_thetwins those girls are nice and comfy in there! I'm surprised too though that they sent you home at 4cm, how frustrating.

@scostel2 that stinks about the itching but glad you caught it before it could be a problem! Fx that everything goes well these next few days

So excited to hear a birth announcements from @mizzkbrat soon!!
• @scostel2 I hope you get some relief from that itch soon! And Hooray for getting to have your little sooner rather than later ;)

@mizzkbrat Congratulations in advance! Woohoo!
• @sjo_thetwins ahhh that is so frustrating, I'm sorry :( how are you feeling now? Are you still having contractions consistently? I hope they either give you a break and let you rest or just decide to come already!!

@mizzkbrat SO excited for you!! Hoping everything progresses quickly now that your water has broken and you get your baby cuddles asap!

@scostel2 fingers crossed baby comes on his own soon so you don't have to suffer much longer. I'm sorry that this is so stressful for you.

• Wow good luck @scostel2 and @mizzkbrat!! Hope everything goes well for both of you!!
• @sjo_thetwins Obviously I don't know the extent of your twin pain, but now that I'm actively TRYING to shake this baby loose, he's not wanting to budge either. I can sympathize with your frustration.
