So funny that you guys are talking nipple stimulation cause I seriously just googled it to see if it really works. Lol.
As for pedis, you want them to massage your Achilles heel. I get ladies who are past due all the time that seriously just want me to rub their heels to get things moving. I've never had someone go into labor in my chair, but I'm assuming it must do something because we are taught to avoid that spot like the plague until a woman is full term.
+1 for this. My boobs are easily leaking so if we're going to do some nip-play it's going to get messy so better make sure it's worth it
I was told by an LC that you can use a breast pump for nipple stimulation too. So if you're already leaking, maybe you could build up a freezer stash and kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

@LauraPCOS my midwife won't check until 39 weeks either. I'm totally ok with that though, because I'd be overanalyzing the shit out of even the smallest dilation at this point. I don't want to get my hopes up that I'll go early. At 39 weeks if I'm showing decent progress in terms of dilation/effacement, then she said we could do a membrane strip to try to move things along. That's the part I'm super nervous about, I heard it hurts like a biotch.
Oh this scares me now... I think my doc is going to so a membrane sweep this afternoon to get things going. I have no idea what to expect. The word "sweep" makes it sound so quick and simple. Any BTDT moms with experience?
Not that the pain really matters... I've been through labor before so I know THAT pain lol. Just like to know what I'm going into!
Edited for spelling
Did you end up having it done?? I feel like as uncomfortable as I am now, in another week and a half I'll do anything to get labor going, even if it means a couple mins of pain. But yeah, still nervous.

This was a certified LC, I can't imagine she'd recommend this if it would affect your supply. But also, I doubt you could really build a freezer stash doing it, I was half joking. You could maybe get a little colostrum, not sure it'd be enough worth saving.

@bnsmith85 on the topic of saving the colostrum if you were to pump now and get something from it, in my breastfeeding class she said about how our bodies change the makeup of the colostrum/milk depending on what the baby needs nutrititionally, so the colostrum you make at 36 weeks is not the same as the colostrum you would be making at 40 weeks or whenever the baby arrives because the baby has different nutritional needs. Just something to keep in mind
I just read on one of my apps that 70% of babies come after their due date. That pretty much just took all hope out of me that he'll be here soon. 4 weeks is a big window of time that he can arrive, can someone narrow it down just a little for me?? Do I need to strain myself cleaning this weekend or will I have to clean the house 6 more times before he decides to arrive??

MAN!! I was hoping for like the 2nd week of October. Bummer! I might as well sit tight!
Married 11-11-11 TTC only since Dec 2015. I had some weight to get off. Been working hard in the gym for over a year. BFP 02-15-16 with our first IT'S A BOY!!!
@LGW2015 That colostrom fact is super intresting!!! So my baby got different colostrum when he was born (36+5) than if he was full term. I wonder if it helped him not lose his birth weight as bad, like higher fat content.
@LGW2015 I've heard that too. I wonder what that means for milk that is pumped and frozen when baby is, say, 3 months old, but doesn't drink it until 4 months. Did they touch on that at all? Or maybe it doesn't make as much of a difference with milk as it does colostrum?
ETA: the LC was referring to pumping just before your due date, like in the 38/39 week range. I probably should've said that in my original post! I had to supplement with formula right away with my first due to blood sugar issues, that's why she brought that up. Getting labor going would just be a happy side effect.
@LGW2015 and @sportiegrl1213 - This is part of the reason that my Obs office and the hospital has redefined what full term is for them. They say weeks 39 - 42 is actually full term, and weeks 37-38 is early term. And the cleaning over and over again is no joke. I'm tired of vacuuming the living room and we've given up eating home cooked food because we don't want to mess up the kitchen. I haven't been to the grocery store in two weeks. I'm going for a mini trip tonight just to get a half gallon of milk and a few other things. My DH and I have gotten to the point where we are like airplanes waiting to be told it's time to land... I forget what that term is called.. but you hopefully get my point.

I asked my nurse this cause if your milk is changing then should you not stock pile and she said that as much as the nutrition changes, it's still so beneficial to baby that it's good to use.
ETA (and clarify) - my thought was more that (depending on your freezer) you can stock pile breast milk for up to a year, and if you stop BFing at let's say 6-8 months, but started pumping at 6 weeks, your baby is getting different nutrients with each bottle. But as I mentioned above, my prenatal class nurse said even with a change in nutrients, breast milk is still beneficial so go ahead and feed them it.

@LGW2015 I've heard this too... but I also read that this is because for most people the due date is a guess based on last period. So if you had an early ultrasound to determine due date or know the exact date of conception, your chances of going past are much slimmer. Much, much slimmer.
Julia70286sidecarsareforbishes STM and I did have them sweep membranes with my first pregnancy. They won't do it (my first clinic and my clinic today also said their policy is also the same) until you are officially 39 Weeks along since it's considered "induction". And like you said, "sweep" sounds like something easy and quick, but I remember it hurting while my doctor did it and I ended up feeling cramps and sore all day. I was terrified after she did it because they basically strip the membranes and there will be lots of blood while they did it and lots of spotting after they did it. A benefit is that there's a large percentage of women who will go into labor within 24 hours of having membranes stripped.
I had it done with my first because I was so uncomfortable and was just "done" with pregnancy, they swept membranes at my appointment that morning and that night I was checking into the hospital.
This time around I don't plan to have it done at my 39 week appointment next week, I may consider having her do it at my 40 week appointment depending on when it gets scheduled for.
Re: snacks- with DS1 I was puking the entire time I was laboring, so I snuck a couple of those energy goo pack things for marathoners and some saltines to the hospital. Their policy is nothing but ice chips once admitted.
re: nip stimulation- I used the pump for stimulation the first time around, and it definitely gave me contractions but didn't really start labor. I did manage to stock some colostrum up, though, and had zero issues with production! The real trigger for your milk supply is the loss of your placenta.
@LGW2015 ... I heard the same thing. Not planning on pumping pre-baby. My question was more around, does this affect your supply. Kind of like when they tell you not to pump before x number of weeks because you want to give your supply time to regulate. Just wondering if it would work the same in this case.
Re: the milk changing, something to remember with early BFing is that your body 'reads' (for lack of a better way of putting it) the baby's saliva and provides any necessary antibodies to help keep the baby healthy while his/her immune system develops. So, IF you can feed straight from the breast in the beginning (and want to for that matter) I'd consider saving your stock pile until a little later... of course, taking expiration dates, your personal preference, and about a gazillion other things into consideration. Just a fun fact my friend shared with me and something I'm going to try to do.
I feel like my baby is for sure going to be late, there is no sign he's getting ready to come out..... If he flips my Dr will let me wait until 10/23 before being induced (with a 10/10 dd).

This makes me so happy cause I did have an early ultrasound to figure out my date since my periods are so messed up they couldn't rely on it to determine my conception date. If we go by my period, I'm due Oct 3, but the early ultrasound (6 weeks and again at 10 to confirm) shows I'm due Oct 10. I'm still hoping I go early though.

Yeah, see I know a lot of people who have irregular periods but they still didn't have early ultrasounds. So they were "late" but probably the EDD was just wrong. I did a trigger shot so I know my conception date, so there's no way mine is off. So if he's late, I will cry. Lol. Plus DH called his new boss saying he'd start Oct 17th cause he assumes the baby will be here by then. So now I gotta pop this baby out by then or else he'll get pushed back and go a few days without pay! No bueno!
If I hadn't had a FET (so due date isn't a guess here... they know exactly when I last ovulated b/c of lab work and such)... I'd think I'm supposed to be pregnant much longer. I just don't feel like I feel crappy enough to be due in 3ish weeks. Plus, the closer it gets, the more freaked out I am about everything so I'd be okay with waiting juuuust a little while longer
I'm with you @bnsmith85. I don't feel horrible enough to be due so soon. Especially cause with my other two kids it was way way way worse by now, and I'm actually decently comfortable even at night still. But I know the exact day I got pregnant cause it was the only day my husband was even home and I had an early ultrasound. So no wrong dates here!

Same here. 10/1 based on LMP and 10/10 based on 1st ultrasound. I'm hoping more for 10/1 but not counting on it because I'm still closed up as of yesterday's appointment
@sidecarsareforbishes No she didn't end up doing it, I did ask though! She said she would do it next week, but that's not necessary because she's inducing me next Thursday if he's not here already. A friend of mine had her membranes swept at 38 weeks, which I am this week, so I was hopeful to get things moving, but no.
Soooo I just googled sweeping membranes just to see how it was done/if I want my doctor to do it, and WOMEN ARE DOING IT THEMSELVES. It was on baby center boards, but omg that is nuts. Not recommeded.

I'm trying to figure out how they're able to reach that far up their vag to even perform the membrane sweep. Gross.

Right! I can't even shave. How am I supposed to reach my cervix?!
Um eeewwww and oooowwwww. Just no!! I can't imagine attempting to sweep my own membranes. WTF.
For due date if I went by LMP I would think I was going way way way late. It took me multiple conversations to even get nurses on board. The calls back with betas were the worst, they were so tentative with giving me the results because by my chart I should have been a couple weeks ahead.
Thanks y'all! I was just thinking about how I said earlier I was paranoid about having the OB send me down right after my appointment. So....I guess my sister isn't the only one who has these freaky premonitions!
PS- this hospital has THE BEST ice! .......crushy, yummy, Sonic ice! I've been scarfing it up! And I also have to say that- aside from one who wasn't impolite or anything, was just rough and matter of fact- all of these L&D nurses have been soooooooo nice and welcoming and complimentary and sympathetic.
I had a breakdown in front of one about not being able to go see Baby in the NICU yet when she brought in my test results saying I needed the 24hr drip....just started balling like a baby and couldn't stop. She was so sympathetic and made sure I knew every woman would feel the same way and that the NICU ladies were taking great care of my baby and that we could let my DH go over there and FaceTime with me to see the place. Which we did, and was great!
If you end up getting great nurses, be sure to do all the pleases and thank yous and consider a parting basket with goodies for them! I'm definitely going to have to do something for how great they've been with me so far! (And I've got at least 2 days left, so who knows what hormonal meltdowns I still have in me!)
