As a side note, I'm so sick of people saying that they don't like the names we're considering. I think I'm just going to start telling people that we're keeping the names a secret for a while until we pick one! It's so irritating to have a name and then someone say "Ewww I don't like that one at all!" B, your opinion doesn't matter anyway!!!
I'm thinking the same thing. I have some names I really like, but DH and I haven't narrowed down any names yet, and haven't talked with anyone we know about any of the possibilities. I just don't want their opinions, is that bad? Lol. My mom keeps asking about it, and I think i'm just going to keep telling her we have no idea until we've decided for sure. If I give her the idea that we're close to deciding, she'll keep badgering me and drive me crazy until I tell her the options.
My BIL & SIL did not tell anyone the name of their daughter until she was born. The more & more I think about it and the more people give opinions on names, I start to realize what a good idea that was

I don't think it's bad. I'm not telling anyone our name choices for this very reason. And if they ask why not, I've been saying, "because I'm not interested in hearing anyone's opinion on our choices." My sister said in a jerk, but everyone else has stopped asking after that.
@BumpasaurusRex I love both names but see what you mean about flow. That said, I'm a big believer that first and middle names aren't used together a ton in real life so that's not a big deal to me.
I actually think they sound really good together and LOVE the associations I have with them. Pearl is refined, feminine, mysterious, and has a ton of staying power. Amelia is strong, bold, and self aware, determined in a good way. Of course all of that is just what comes to mind but they seriously compliment each other IMO.
We have just started talking about names now that we know we are having a girl and will try to go with a family name. Our last name - and my husband - is French. So there are lots of gorgeous French girl names to choose from. Although one of my all time favorite names is Margot which we can't use because it rhymes with our last name. We are thinking about Chloe, Seraphine, Brigitte, Aurelie. And my great grandmother was Angeline and I like that too... I'm sure we will narrow it down at some point
Since this got bumped I need some positive feedback on my names. We've told 3 people our girl name and 2/3 have disliked it. If our baby is a girl she will be Heidi Josephine. For the boy name, we've had mixed reactions but a lot of people wanting to use a nickname, if baby is a boy he will be Anders Jude (couple people asked if they could call him Andy and I reallllllly dislike that idea). Big sisters are E$Me Julia and Ph0ebe Jane.

I think we finally ironed out the name for our girl. While I would love another generation of Lynne as a middle name, H wants to honor his grandmother and it sounds better with our first name pick. Looks like our daughter will be Magdalena Jean.
I really like the girl's name @peachesnbean! It seems like an odd name to have a strong objection to. Very classic and pretty. I'm surprised by the feedback you've gotten, but everybody's gotta have an opinion these days.
@Xstatic3333 right?! I couldn't believe it. The first negative reaction was from one of my best friends and she really hates it. She says it just isn't a name that she thinks a kid could grow into. The other person didn't give me a reason.

@peachesnbean, I like both names. I grew up with a Heidi, so I can see where it works for a child to adult. As far as the nickname issue, unfortunately you may not be able to completely avoid it, but you can tell your friends and family you prefer not to use a nickname. I will probably be in the same boat with our name choice.
@BumpasaurusRex I like both Pearl and Amelia but I'm not sure about the flow without knowing your last name. Amelia might seem like a mouthful if you've got a long last name. If it's one syllable like Pearl Amelia Rex, I think I like it!
@peachesnbean did those that dislike your names give you their ideas? Sometimes hearing their awful suggestions helps you realize their opinion doesn't mean much!
@peachesnbean I really like Heidi--it's modern and fun. Josephine is a classic that goes well with Heidi. I don't see the down side, maybe if it's bugging you ask them for more clarification?
@BumpasaurusRex I think I've told you this before but I LOVE Pearl. I also really like Amelia, I think it flows fine and also am with @Xstatic3333 about middle names not being super important. No one I knows mine except family and husband.
We haven't decided on any names yet, but DH is loving Esther for a girl. I told him it's an old lady name and we may as well name a baby girl Gladys. Our boys are Elijah and Asher. I just don't think Esther is as cute as our sons' names.

It goes nicely with your biblical theme though! I met an adorable Esther at the pediatric dentist with my son recently. After seeing her, the name sounded cute. If you're going for biblical, our daughter's name was Abigail but we also liked Naomi and Delilah.
When I was 12, I swore I would name a daughter Cora. As an adult, I've moved off it for my own daughter, but please name your daughter this so 12-year-old me can have closure!

@peachesnbean I have a friend named Anders who is 30 and everyone still calls him Anders... maybe it's the pronunciation, but I never even thought of Andy as a nickname for him. We pronounce it like ON-ders not AN-ders, if that makes sense?
@TeacherMom2517 - Thanks That's another hesitation of mine. i like AN- not ON- pronunciation. I actually like both but I feel a little snobby saying ON-ders. I really like the name and I am fairly certain we will stick with it, but it certainly has some potential pitfalls.
@Spicyweiner -Cora and Hazel are both beautiful. both vetoed by my stinking husband.

Re: Names
DH hit me with this one last night (we don't know the sex yet but he thinks it's a girl):
Pearl Amelia
Thoughts? I adore Pearl and I do like Amelia but I'm not sure on how well it flows.
I can take brutal truth!

We use our kids middle names alot in that, you're in trouble kind of way, lol.
Ben and Maggie - 4/10/09
Mia - 6/16/11
Surprise! due 2/23/17
Of course all of that is just what comes to mind but they seriously compliment each other IMO.
We decided on a boy name but still nothing for a girl. DS is Parker so we wanted to keep up the last name first name. Holden Chase.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I do like Amelia Pearl as well but I love Pearl too much to stick it in the middle. Guess we'll keep working on it!

So my vote goes to Cora Elizabeth. So timeless and classic.
