@krzyriver yay for your DH! My DH also recently changed jobs. It was a stressful decision because it was a paycut and his new job will have limited job protection for paternity leave because he's new, but new job offered way more opportunity for growth and was in an area that he has more experience in. It was a struggle for a bit to decide if it was the right choice. We just found out that the business he worked for was sold, so he would have been out of a job anyway. Dodged a major bullet. The universe works in mysterious ways.
After three months and a very stressful and confusing dental appointment, I am proud to announce that I got a free cleaning and 3 fillings for the price of one.
Well, I bit the bullet and read the thread of things still left to do. Seriously giving me anxiety now, because October is one of my busiest months at work and I was expecting to have almost the whole month to get things done there (due date is October 23), but last week the doc said they might want to induce at 37 or 38 weeks. 37 weeks is October 2nd. Um. No. Not possible. Sorry.
Questions for y'all: baby clothes and washing them... I got Dreft but haven't washed anything yet. Should new clothes be washed a couple of times before Baby wears them? My mom suggested that. Also... are baby clothes shrink-able? Everything says "tumble dry low" or whatever, but I'd hate to shrink anything. If we do dry them, should we also get special dryer sheets/use no dryer sheets? IDK...if babies need special detergent, do they also need special dryer sheets?
Also, anyone using/has used formula: should we go ahead and buy some now, or wait closer to due date? I assume powder formula lasts a while, especially if unopened. But we also got a couple coupons for the small already-mixed newborn bottles buy one, get one free. Can those be bought now, or should we wait, since they're liquid?
Ugh, I sound like a newb, sorry!!
On a lighter note: that closed "measuring ahead" thread was awesome. I'm sorry I missed out on it!
I used All Free and Clear with DD1 and have washed hand me downs with the same this go round. We used Bounce Free and Clear with DD. Dreft was good for its spray stain remover (although I did not care for the scent). Quite a bit of both girls' clothing is second hand, but I have washed only new things once before wear. I dry most clothing on the delicate cycle. If it had a glitter embellishment I just turn inside out to wash/dry.
On the formula, I signed up for Enfamil and they already sent a welcome back including samples and checks that I tucked back just in case. We live in a super rural area so purchasing formula in the middle of the night is not an option. After DD1's delivery (Dec. 2012) they were out of breastfeeding giveaways at hospital and we received a cooler with a can of Enfamil GentlEase. The pediatrician's office also gave us some smaller cans. I would sign up with multiple formula companies and get family members to do this same. I started out exclusively pumping, supplemented and then we transitioned to formula. The checks and coupons we received were a huge help.
You are due on my birthday! DD1 came at 38 weeks so that is what I have adjusted my deadline for getting everything done to.
@krzyriver Agreed! My DS took a major step down when we moved, but he has already moved up and is having a LOT more fun now. He might make a little less, but it is totally worth it to see him at a job he loves.
To very quickly summarize a few events, my dentist offered me several free services, sang to me, and insisted on only calling me by a pet name instead of my real name, and I was pulled over about 3 hours ago for doing 50 in a 45 (ridiculous), once the officer ran my info he came back commenting on what a cute pregnant woman he thinks I am, told me I had beautiful eyes, issued me a warning, made a point to touch my hand when he handed it to me, then sent me on my way.
I haven't decided if I'm flattered or creeped out.
Maybe I've been magically granted one day of complete irresistibility and FI will fawn overy me too once he's home and cook dinner...
@SpaceBurger , that reminds me of Maria Von Trapp when she makes the dresses for the Von Trapp kids out of curtains. Have you seen Sound of Music? I know every word by heart. LOL
@AllyTheKid, the cop couldn't resist your beauty.... but really I wanna know what the dentist sang to you, and what was the pet name? LOL. This is hilarious.
@AllyTheKid I had a weird day, but it doesn't touch yours!
I just organized the the kitchen to fit all baby's feeding necessities. His room may not be done but I can wash and dry all the feeding necessities! I got the drying rack we registered for at the shower this afternoon and I just had to do something.

@ibabyloveb87... We did the same last night. Cleaned off all the counters of unnecessary clutter, cleaned out drawers that had stuff we could put elsewhere and put a bunch of unused kitchen stuff in the garage sale stash. We now have all the stuff we've received so far for the kitchen stored away AND 2 empty drawers. We're kind of amazing
@AllyTheKid thirding the song and pet name. Also what was your reaction when he started to sing?? I had a kid randomly come up to me and sing me a Korean Pop Song while at camp, but you win hands down!
Also did your cop say meow at all? "Have a good day meow"
I've had such a long and stressful day. Almost had DH stop and get me a milkshake on his way home tonight, but talked myself out of it.
But, proceeded to go down to the kitchen and scarf Teddy Grahams for 3-4 minutes straight from the box without coming up for air, chased those with 2 glasses of milk, followed by 2 Frosted Mini Wheats (the box was almost empty), a handful of M&Ms and a large pack of Welch's Fruit Snacks. Clearly should've just gone with the milkshake. That much sugar and I'm not even satisfied. Lesson learned.
I got winked at by a cute guy at the gym tonight. I chalked it up to a "oh she's so pregnant & sweaty & looks absolutely miserable" sympathy wink but I admit it did boost my ego a bit! So maybe you're on to something @allythekid & the stars are aligned just right today! Too bad I'm too exhausted to try my magic charms on DH tonight.
@F47 That is 100% something that I would do! I love sugar.
I am so tired. I've been sick but still--other than being awake a couple hours in between, I slept for 27 hours (probably 24 if you subtract the awake hours) And still ready for bed now. Work is exhausting me. 12 hour night shifts on a busy hospital unit is rough. I don't know how people work right up to the birth.
@AllyTheKid you were in my dream last night! We were driving around Charleston, SC - where apparently my wife and I had moved - and just doing pregnant things! So weird but so vivid! You so LITTLE, even in pregnant!
Songs: Sugar by Maroon 5, and Love Me Like You Do- They were playing on the radio so it wasn't like a special serenade, but he is VERY animated and was pointing at me and dancing around when he was singing haha Pet names: He either called me dear, sweetie, or Ally-sweetie. Never just Allyson. He's a character and always has been from day one so I kind of take the things he does and says with a grain of salt. He also carried on a conversation about birds and ballroom dancing with me even though my mouth was propped open with a drill and suction hose in it and couldn't exactly respond. The cop was another thing all on its own, I wasn't sure how to take it. I was chalking everything up to it being sympathy flirting kind of like how @Kaessi described, but I've officially decided I'm just THAT big of deal, since FI came home wanting to cuddle all over me all evening (didn't cook, and I didn't get any booty but at this point cuddles are my preference anyway!), and even the ladies are having dreams about me @sjo_thetwins That sounds like a fun dream, I haven't gotten to do any pregnant stuff so far, other than actually be pregnant anyway. And that isn't fun at all. I hope we got massages and foot rubs and stuff!
Re: Weekly Randoms 08.29.16
@LMNOBaby Thank you!
It basically says everything I feel, but in a succinct way I could never articulate.
