Re: Weekly Randoms 08.29.16

  • Random question-- Anyone else stressing about getting ready to leave work? I may be a bit of a control freak so leaving my work to someone else is hard!

  • @Sprinkels28 Me. But not so much stressing about leaving my work to someone else, but that my clients will prefer whoever they see while I'm gone.

  • @krzyriver, I get that too. I just hope the person covering me can keep up with my amount of clients + dealing with a rouge new employee who likes to play the race card or the victim card whenever she is called out on not doing her work correctly. *twitches*
  • @sprinkles28 yes- I get nervous and I haven't done much to prep. I also HATE training people and don't want to have to deal with that... At all. I hate the fairness and I had always having to be busy... Sometimes my job just isn't busy.
  • @AllyTheKid Silence! Lol

@Sprinkels28 Oh man. Yeah, that would definitely stress me out.

  • I do. @Sprinkels28 My firm just hired an attorney that isn't licensed yet in my state to take over my files when I'm gone and thank you baby Jesus she's actually smart and doing well. That being said, I hate having others touch my work so while I'm happy she's here, I'm still worried she'll piss off a client.

  • @LMNOBaby Right! The time is drawing nigh, ladies.
  • What kind of infant tub did you ladies get?  BTDT moms (and FTM too) do you think this is necessary for the first month?  I'm looking at the 4moms tub, is that draining aspect really a good feature?
  • @annabenanna - We haven't gotten ours yet, but we registered for the Angelcare Bath Support. I did a lot of research and thought it would be the best fit for us. The tubs that hold water are larger, harder to clean, and I've heard babies tend to slide around in them a lot.

  • @annabenanna Just the simple whale tub at target works great. With my daughter, we did sponge baths for the first week and then set her in the actual baby bath. I think they're necessary.

  • @annabenanna we need to get a car seat this week too. Just ordered our changing table and luckily my MIL has a brand new PNP for us.

  • @annabenanna, we got the 4Moms tub as a shower present. SO put it on registry because he liked that it had the temperature feature and the dirty water out, clean water in.

@annabenanna I need a car seat and a monitor too. DS1 has a monitor in his room but I am not ready for him to be monitor less. I have to start looking into getting another camera but I figured I could do it later since DS2 will be sleeping in our room with us at first.

and tub wise, I recommend a tub that has a removable sling. You have to sponge bath until the belly button heals and then the sling is nice because the baby is supported and isn't fully under the water. I would just put a warm aden & Anais wash cloth on his belly. And then once they are bigger you can take the sling out and they can still lay down. You only really need the infant tub until they can sit unassisted so I don't really see the need to spend $50+ on a tub...plus they stink to store!

    We got this one:

Edit- I also need to get a carrier- I can't find my Ergo (which I LOVED) and really want the Ergo Adapt anyway. I also really want a ring sling but I might wait until the baby is here because I really want to try it on without the belly and see if it's worth investing in.

  • @annabenanna You will need a tub, or something similar, after the first week. A basic tub will do fine. We have one of those Fisher Price aquarium tubs and it comes with a little sling that you can use to keep the baby from sliding around. I think it costs $25-35 at most places.
  • @annabenanna We registered for The First Years tub - it's the one recommended by Lucie's List, has a sling for newborns, and is pretty inexpensive. I'm a FTM and have zero experience washing newborns though! https://www.amazon.com/First-Years-Comfort-Newborn-Toddler/dp/B000067EH7/

  • Thank you ladies!  There are so many things now added to our list of stuff to buy.  I like @CopperBoom86's AngelCare bathtub!  It's cheap, and seems it'll do the trick.

I am realizing, I need stuff like: breast pads, lansinoh (can i just use coconut oil?), breast milk bags, etc.

    Ugh, neverending spending!  LOL
  • @suzy311 we had that one for DS1 and it worked great! I only got the Fisher Price one because I was at Walmart with my mom and she offered to buy it- basically the same tub but a little more $$.

@ball4768 I am so excited for September- for cool weather and a pretty busy schedule that will hopefully make the month fly by. I also am excited for football Sundays and the food!!!!!! I'm ready for everyone to be off the beach and doing Sunday Football Funday's so I can finally hang with my  friends!

  • We just did one of those cheap tubs too. It was a million times easier that just washing her in the sink. Wet babies are slippery!
  • I'm getting the blooming bath for sink baths. We'll get something different when she outgrows that.

  • Why am I panicking?  LOL.  I feel like I'm seriously running out of time, and the baby's nook isn't even done yet. :(

Also, looked at the calendar, and DH and I have approximately only 2 weekends left (where it's just us) before baby gets here.
  • @annabenanna We got the fisher price one that has the newborn sling and toddler seat. I was on the fence about bothering so quickly. But my dad and DH both said they loved having one for newborns because sponge baths are so much easier. I didn't trust them so I asked my mom and she agreed. Lol

  • @krzyriver I think we have the same tub by the sound of it. I wanted one with an infant sling so we didn't have to worry about the sliding issues. My only thought is wondering if the sink will work with it because our faucet is not high. It does have a removable sprayer so that might be how we do the early baths. I'm not looking forward to bending over a tub quite yet, but that might just be my back pain talking!

My DS outgrew the sling part of his baby tub really quickly, and he was way too small for the plastic tub part. But, he was also a monster child, so...

We ended up buying those cheap infant "comfy sponge" things and using them. He didn't slip and it was super soft for his long, lanky body. But, they're definitely not green (they don't last must more than a week before needing replaced) and I'm sure there are much better solutions. But, that's the rut we got stuck in.

We were sink baths all the way once he could sit up (until he outgrew those, too). haha

  • Crafty people:

I'm almost certainly the least crafty person in the world, so I need help. I'm making a door hanger for the hospital, similar to the one below. I want to write her name on it, but I have terrible handwriting and if I screw this thing up, I'm going to go all hulk rage and break it in half and, as a Christian, I'm not sure the Lord would approve of me breaking a cross in half over my head :#. I don't have one of those nifty vinyl machines (again, not usually crafty) and I looked at stencils and stickers at a bunch of craft stores, but couldn't find any that I liked. So, I found a font that I liked online, downloaded it in Word, and printed out her name in the correct size for hanger. NOW, how do I use it as a template? I thought about printing out a mirror image, tracing it with a charcoal pencil and mooshing it against the cross, then painting over the charcoal. Is there an easier way of doing this??? I feel like I'm way overcomplicating things, but I don't know how to be crafty, you guys!!!

  • We actually cleared all of September from social engagements, etc.

We are doing all of our classes Tuesday and Wednesday---- and dedicating one weekend to errands/finalizing the baby's nook/needs...one weekend (this labor day weekend) to doing a trip with my stepdaughters, as our "last trip just the 4 of us"... then the rest of the time we blocked off for date nights/sleeping in/movie dates, etc.

I can't believe we are weeks away!
  • CopperBoom86  My recommendation would be to print it off and cut out the letters and trace around the letters onto the cross.  Or I'd print it on card stock or a heavier paper and use a razor blade to cut out the letters and then fill it in, similar to making your own stencil.

I thought about that, but the insides of the lowercase letters are so small! Maybe I could get some smaller scissors and do it that way. I don't even own a charcoal pencil lol.
