Hey y'all
Lets try our first appointment thread (since its Friday I made it for this Friday to next, but I can try and start this on Mondays if we like it)
Just a place to talk about results from appointments, ultrasounds, cervical checks, etc, since most of us are having lots of appointments these days!
Edited to add @annas390's great idea - you can mention what week you are, what happened at the appointment, etc, to give a heads up to other people who might be a few weeks behind
Re: Appointment Thread - Aug 12 - 19
Someone in Randoms mentioned being in stirrups for the CC, but apparently my OB doesn't use them until I'm pushing out LO. I think it's interesting how every practice does things just a little differently. I wonder how much of it is your dr's personal experience vs. age of dr vs. last time they got updated training/PD etc.
Thanks @crich15 !
I have my 36 week appointment on Monday where I'll be doing the GBS test - but my friend said they just gave her a swab and she was told to wipe it up her butt crack before she gave the urine sample. Did anyone else do this? I was surprised to hear (from the random thread) that everyone is getting "stabbed" (swabbed) in the vagina
For the FTMs, please ignore the doctor/nurse when they say "oh, if you make it to next week" or "you could have this baby any day!" Trust me, it is what they tell everyone at this point and you'll get increasingly frustrated when you're still pregnant the next week.
I just got home from my 35 week checkup. Did the GBS swab, all external swabbing. My doctor did do a cervix check and I am 1 cm dilated. Which as others have said, could mean nothing, but I was very similar at this point when I had my son 3 years ago. I was induced at 38 weeks due to high BP and ended up having a very easy and quick labor (less than 5 hours start to finish). Praying this one is just as easy and quick :-). Happy Friday!
Lilltle one is now <1% abdominal circumference and <4% head circumference. Oddly, her femur length is 94% so I guess she's going to look like Olive Oyl when she comes out! My placenta isn't doing its job and she's having growth restriction due to it. Fortunately she's getting enough oxygen and her heart is doing well. They did some extra stuff today like viewed the pressure in her cerebral arteries and were able to say she's in no distress. Just skinny. So she needs to come out and eat!
I'm trying to be calm about it because worrying isn't going to do anything but maybe make my BP even worse.
They did...
GBS swab: It was a little painful, but no big deal and it was over in a second or two. Mine was internal (vaginal) and external (down the perineum), all in one swoop. They do use more pressure than I'd expected. I was anticipating a light swab like when they check for strep throat, but there was a lot of pressure involved.
Cervical check: First one and it did not feel good. The doctor who did it had fairly small hands (the only woman of the three I see), but it was still a lot of pressure and sharp pain. She didn't use a speculum, just her fingers, which is what made it more painful than, say, a pap smear, I think, because everything is swollen down there. No stirrups, either. I just laid back and put the soles of my feet together with my knees spread out and "relaxed."
My cervix is shut tight (she didn't mention effacement) but I am losing bits of my mucus plug mixed with old blood (which started yesterday just after midnight and has happened twice so far).
NST: I've been having these weekly for 4 weeks now, I think. Babies passed with no problem, as usual. I had a couple of drawn out contractions, which I couldn't feel, during it, but that's normal for twins at this point, according to my doctor.
Quick ultrasound: Just to check Baby B's position since we'd been hoping he'd flip head down again, but no luck. Baby A is taking up so much space in the center that B has virtually no chance of being able to get turned back around. My fluid levels are nice and high, though, and everything looks good otherwise.
If I don't go into labor on my own, I'll have one more prenatal appointment(!) next Friday and then a CS the following week (between Monday and Wednesday, depending on when the OR is open.)

Holy hell on the cervical check. I felt that for at least an hour afterward. I feel like my doctor should have bought me dinner before she gets that far up in me. So painful.
All that to say, my cervix is thinning but closed. And I'm measuring a week behind.
Anyone else get news like this? Feels late in the game for nothing to be happening.
Also found out that because my BMI is above 30, I have to have an consult with the anesthesiologist, which is apparently a thing where I live. One thing they were concerned with was that my systolic BP was in the 145-150 range, which is very unusual for me, I'm usually around 125-130. So I have to check it every 2 hours until it comes down to my regular range and if it doesn't they want me to call them. It went down to 135 an hour after I got home... just waiting to test it again. No swelling, blurred vision or headache though, so that's good I guess. I'm ready for this day to be over.
Im 36 weeks 3 days
Tuesday (August 9) was my weekly ultra sound. My fluids came back at 4.66 total so they dropped since last week. Baby girl was looking good so that makes me happy.
Wednesday (August 10) I had my OB Appointment. Got the results of my GBS swab that I did at 35 weeks which is negative. Had my cervix checked. This is probably the 10th time this pregnancy and it still hurts just as bad every time. I thought I would get use to it by now. 1cm dilated and she rated by cervix a 3. Not sure what that means but she said it was soft just not soft enough. She said baby is very low in my pelvis so that's good. Got my date for my induction which will be August 17. Right at 37 weeks on the dot. 5 more sleeps!
Thursday (August 11) I had my NST test. I have them on any days I don't have an ultra sound. It went well which made me feel better cause the one on Monday didn't go great.
Friday (August 12) NST test went well today. The nurse that came to my house had been induced twice so she was full of information on what to expect. Some terrified me and some made me feel a bit better.
Tuesday (August 16) will be my weekly Ultra sound. They will take her measurements again and make sure she is still head down. She was last measured August 2 and was 5 pounds 13 ounces so Im hoping it will come back at almost 7 pounds as she will be coming out the next day.
Wednesday (August 17) Last kind of appointment of this pregnancy... BEING INDUCED!!! They are starting with Cervidal in the morning, then breaking my water, then starting the Pitocin. If after 12 hours Im not close they are going to do a c section. Wish me luck!!
I had a growth ultrasound today as well and baby girl is in the 5%. So now I have NST twice a week, 1St one on Tuesday, and weekly growth ultrasounds. They also checked my fluid levels and they are at 10 today.
U/S: both babies are still head down (yay!) and they both passed their BPP. Baby girl is always very sleepy in the mornings and has to be buzzed.
NST: only a couple of contractions and babies' accelerations were good.
Consult: my blood pressure was 138/85, which is very high for me. However, my doctor did not feel that it was high enough to start talking induction. I also had protein in my urine, but the lowest amount registered on the dipstick. We're keeping an eye on it, but it looks like my old friend, preeclampsia, might be trying to rear its ugly head. I gained 10 pounds in the last week, which is all water weight.
My progress: last week (at 34 weeks) I was 2 cm and 50% effaced. My doctor likely won't check again, though, since he doesn't really believe in it and I had
to ask him to do it.
If if I can just make it to next week, 36 weeks, I will feel so much better about the babies maybe coming early!
Had my BPP that day too and baby scored 8/8. He's still head down and measuring (give or take 12oz) 5lbs9oz. I'm on medication for hypertension, so I had my BP taken while I was there which was elevated. Went to my drs appt about an hour later, and she was happy with my BP when she took it. No cervical checks (which I will most likely refuse if she asks), and she told me I shouldn't go on the vacay I had planned for this weekend (boo).
At my 36 week appointment on 8/3 I found out baby boy was estimated to be 6 pounds 11 oz. They didn't tell me my fluid level except that it looked "normal".
im slightly confused about the cervical checks. My doctor told me some women show zero dilation but have gone into labor a day or two later, and on the flip side you can be a couple centimeters dialated and walk around like that for weeks. It just seems like these checks aren't really an indicator of when labor comes.
Also had my last growth scan and baby boy was estimated to be 7lbs. 4oz. yesterday.

She didn't say what it was but she said LO is measuring small so she ordered a growth scan next week. Not really concerned since I have been fine all the other weeks (or at least no one else was concerned)
1cm dilated, and 60% effaced, last week it was 0cm dilated and 50% effaced. So I guess that is progress.
BFP: 8/11/18 Due: 4/26/18
Had a bit of a heart attack when she was feeling for body parts and couldn't find his head in my pelvis. She thought maybe he'd flipped breech. But they did an ultrasound and his head is just SO low in my pelvis that she couldn't feel from the outside! She was like "how are you even walking?!"
They said they'll start the internal exams at 38 weeks!
i am just hoping and praying that H will be here when I give birth. The added worry is killing me

I gained a pound from last week which my OB made me promise I would try to do.
I found out I am GBS positive but I'm really not that worried.
even though I feel like I've blown up like a balloon I'm still measuring on track
I am between 1-2cm dilated. I don't mind the cervical checks so it's interesting to know how things are going.
Oh!! OB said that she can feel his head when she presses on my cervix. Woah!
