  • Ahh @HeatSparks that's such exciting news!
  • My hospital won't take the baby, ever. I mean they do for a few things like first bath and stuff... But they definitely don't take the baby if you need a break or sleep or anything. So because of that, this time I will want to head home ASAP and be sleep deprived there instead :)

  • @HeatSparks during my NT scans for both my boys they were right on guessing. But I think boys are easier to guess than girls?
  • @Tennis11785 my beer stash is getting impressive already.  In the last few weeks, I've picked up a local hopped cider from my husband's hometown, two bottles of a local session ale aged in chardonnay bottles (one of my favorite releases of the year), a Millstone Farmgate ($$), a Bon Chienn ($$$), and a four-pack of cans of a limited release watermelon gose, which I just nabbed on Friday.  And that's not even counting the cases of stuff I'm aging.  If my NT scan looks good on Monday, I'm planning on having a celebratory beer (with about a gallon of water as a chaser for each sip, of course).

@BumpasaurusRex I felt the same way living in NY.  Come on down!

@silvercamaro77 we had a rainy day that was like 75 degrees here the other day and I was like YASSSSSSS.  I wore leggings and a zip-up hoodie to the Home Depot, and I was like.  Skipping down the aisles.  Now it's back up near 100, so, boo.

@homemake I KNOW RIGHT???  I'm painting my whole house in shades of stormy greys and steely blues right now, and it just makes me want all the cable-knit and, like, sea spray.

    @HeatSparks eeeek yay!

  • @NiceyMeany that's what we did to ours when we moved in a year ago. I love the colors but I haven't been able to match with decor and furniture yet because we started from scratch. Slowly but surely.
  • @tennis11785 Thank you so much!! #9 was awesome!!

  • @BlondePeanut and @silvercamaro77 I honestly have no idea what I had. It wasn't painful just felt like kicks from the inside.  I'm just really excited to feel the baby move and can't wait!! I've been having a lot of baby dreams recently, too. Gahhhh! Can't wait to hold her!

Adding to the hospital talk.....I don't mind if the nurse takes the baby to let me rest.  God knows I won't have anybody at home to do that so I'll take advantage of it.  But my biggest fear is going home with the wrong baby! I still need to do the hospital tours so I'll have to make sure to ask them what measures they have in place for that.

  • That's a good idea!

  • All this talk about fall is making me sad about all the pumpkin beer I won't be drinking.

I guess I'll be stocking up for a late Feb/early March pumpkin beer!

You're a genius. I am 100% doing this now too! I cant believe beer is still 6 months away :'(
  • You ladies are so chatty!!  It is hard for me to catch up!

I have pretty good insurance and I have already met my deductible and almost all of my out of pocket max (thanks IVF).  I am sure that I will have to prepay also but who knows when I will be asked.

I am ALL over  the fall weather.  I used to love summer but not anymore bring on football, falling leaves, pumpkins, and Halloween!!

This my be a touchy subject as I'm sure everyone has their opinion and side to be on butttttt: I'm wondering if having a beer, or half a beer, or a small glass of wine is really okay? I am a FTM and hadn't read up on anything (surprise pregnancy) but I hear both sides- strongly. What is everyone's experience or what have your doctors told you and what did you actually do?

  • This has been a heavily discussed topic recently. I've been on team lets not risk it, but the further along I get the stronger my craving for a certain apple beer gets. Thankfully hubby offered if it gets bad enough he will drink one so I can have a few sips to ease the craving. He is a true team player, let me tell ya.

  • @SweetT You're not from TN are you?  You described last year perfectly!

  • This might be better for UO day, but I chose the hospital I did because they do have a nursery that they can take the baby to if the parents want/need it.  The one closer to my house recently received the "baby friendly" designation, which means they got rid of their nursery and they focus on breastfeeding exclusively.  But the reviews have been they take this to the extreme, almost to a fault.  Like if the baby is having a hard time latching, they do nothing to help the mother and baby beyond having the LC stop by once during your stay and really make the mom feel like she's "failing" and doesn't have any support from the hospital to ensure the baby gets nutrients. Instead, I'm delivering at one that is a bit farther away, and is very supportive of the baby staying with you and BFing, but they also provide options if the parent wants/needs it.

  • @jlellis603 I've heard both sides argued vehemently, but personally, I don't think a sip every now and again will do any harm. If there's a wine or beer I want to try, I just take a sip of hubbys. Again, it's a personal choice, but that's what I do.

  • @jlellis603 We discussed it pretty extensively in this thread.
  • @SweetT Im worried about that as well. I'm in Atlanta and the last couple years we have had bad winter storms in the first 2 weeks of February. So I'm sure that will be my luck also.

I'm in NE and we normally get a blizzard for my birthday (Feb 2). We were so scared we would have horrible snow when we had our son five years ago (Feb 12), but it was 80 and sunshine the week our son was in the NICU and the day we brought him home, the next day it snowed like crazy. We are keeping our fingers crossed for freaky weather like that again this time around.

  • @Gingersnap your daughter has such beautiful red curls!!! Awwww!!!

  • @Tennis11785 Good breastfeeding education is something that seems to be lacking in many many places.  I'm very fortunate to have an extremely good (has won global awards) local lactation consultant and she has been working with the surrounding hospitals to improve their staffs knowledge and ability to actually help instead of what you're describing.

When I had DD, I hadn't met the LC yet, but I knew something was wrong with our latch because DD made a clicking sound while nursing and it hurt to the point of tears through the entire feeding even on day 1 (i.e. before any actual soreness could set in from damage).  I asked for the hospital LC for help and she looked for a moment and told me that's it's supposed to hurt and everything looked fine.  I suffered through for 2 weeks before calling the number on the help sheet the hospital sent home and the nurse that answered pointed me to the wonderful LC.  She saw me that night and immediately recognized that I was basically drowning DD with so much milk so fast so she was constantly re-latching so that she could breath.  The LC showed me some different positions and holds and I was immediately able to nurse without anything beyond the initial latch pain (which lasts less than 30 seconds).  It was life changing!

I'm also a fan of hospitals that still have the option to send the baby to the nursery at night and I didn't have any trouble with the nurses bring DD and DS to me during the night to BF.  I figured that I needed as much rest as I could get the first night before I became the sole get up at nighter.  I know some dad's share the responsibility, but it was easier to nurse during the night than to have him feed a bottle while I pumped.  I was also super paranoid about establishing my supply and so would not have let the baby eat without me pumping to try to match demand.

  • She told you "it's supposed to hurt"??? Some people are so incompetent.

  • Yeah- I completely cried when she said it because I hate asking for help on anything, I was in more pain than when I delivered, and I knew she was wrong but I couldn't do anything about it.

  • @Tennis11785 I've read horror stories about some of those new hospitals that have done away with nurseries. I think it's ridiculous!! When I had my son, I was very pro breastfeeding, didn't want him out of my sight, and I stayed awake the first 24 hours of his life.. Then the second night came and I was exhausted. I was glad to have the nursery that was able to take him for a few hours and bring him back for his feedings. I wanted to be "super mom" but I so desperately needed those hours of sleep and I was very glad to have the option.  I couldn't imagine if I'd have a C-section how much more recovery time I might've needed. It makes me annoyed that the new hospitals are taking this to the extreme and guilt tripping mothers- it's hard enough!

On a lighter note... I could really go for a cupcake, and this dumb town doesn't have a bakery. I am counting the days until we're back in the suburbs and not out in the boondocks. I just want a gourmet cupcake damnit!

  • @jlellis603 We discussed it pretty extensively in this thread.

    Thanks!
  • Cupcakes!  We used to have this really amazing cupcake place and I was crushed when they closed.  There are a few others in the area but they are not even in the same league.

  • @silvercamaro77 NC outside Raleigh. But I'm sure our weather isn't that different!

@SawyerRichardson I looked back at my Instagram pictures of the last 2 years snow storms, one was 3 days before my due date and the other one was my due date. Doesn't make me feel better!
  • NC is my #1 spot to move to if we ever get out of NJ.  Is it everything I've ever read/heard about?
