My OBs website is down and Im getting mixed reviews looking online. Dayquil ok to take in 3rd Tri? Im 35 weeks and caught my sons cold

Robitussin DM is what we always recommend so I'd check the ingredients to see if DayQuil has anything that Russia doesn't. Hope that helps!

I don't think you can take DayQuil...but I'm not positive. I know you can take regular Sudafed and Tylenol. I guess it depends on your symptoms. Is it congestion? Headache? Cough?

Sore throat, stuffy nose, headache, body aches, so far... LO was sick for about 5 days with flu like symptoms and high fever (103). Stupid daycare... I have Sudafed, maybe I should just take that. Im working ALL day with my boss so need to be on my A game.

Can you call your OB? When I was sick last week, doctor told me claritin, saline nose spray and if absolutely necessary Robitussin. Otherwise, just stay hydrated

I would do Sudafed for congestion, Tylenol for the aches, and cough drops. I would also try saline spray if you have some. I like to use breathe right strips if I'm not going out in public and for sleeping.

I'm late to this.. if your Dayquil (I hate that it's a brand name with different products these days, so hard to tell exactly what's in yours) has dextromethorphan in it.. I would avoid that ingredient. Has shown some issues in animal studies (though those risks would be considerably lower in the 3rd trimester when the fetus is developed and just gaining weight), and no controlled studies in humans. Not worth the benefit/risk ratio to me.

Individual ingredients - Tylenol, pseudoephedrine (in the 3rd trimester) is pretty well-known, should be ok.

When I had the first kiddos, I didn't have a breast pump until after I left the hospital, so I was able to use one of theirs. This time I'll have it before hand. Do I bring that to the hospital with me or do I use one that's available there? TIA!

I'd use there's, @unwritteN12. No need to drag yours if they have a hospital grade available.

@UnwritteN12 I agree with @PSUBecky23. Leave yours at home. Not worth dragging it along when they'll have better, hospital grade pumps there.

I had my pump before McKenna was born, but never considered bringing it with me. Then she was jaundice, and I ended up having to pump there in the hospital. The hospital even provided all the pump parts to me (for me to keep).

@UnwritteN12, I agree on using the hospital's pump. I don't know what brand your home pump is or the hospital pump, but our hospital uses Medela. After they open a kit for you (with flanges, tubing, etc.), they can't reuse it so they send it home with you. It was very helpful for me to have spare parts. Maybe that would be an added bonus of using the hospital's pump!

I think this would go here?

So we have pests, yay summer. We have a service that comes out every few months and sprays a barrier outside the house. This typically works fine but we're seeing more and more live bugs inside and that's just... no. I'm a wimp with bugs so I do not want to share my bed, towels, shoes, or couch with them. Ew. So they're going to spray the inside.

Question is, anyone out there regularly spraying for pests indoors, is this ok? I told them we're having a baby in a month and they said their product is safe but the interwebs is full of horror stories/scary "studies show" articles so I'm getting paranoid.

@AlwaysAuntNeverMom We get our inside & outside sprayed every 2 months. When LO was a baby we skipped his room and when he got a little bigger, 6 months, they sprayed his room around the perimeter on the floors only and I took all the rugs out and everything off the floor. Let it completely dry out, an hourish, and all has been fine. Just make sure you use an organic or green pest service so there's no harsh chemicals. Also, after they spray in the house I always vacuum the rugs and couch or anywhere LO plays a lot multiple times over a few days after the spray bc there are dead bugs hiding in there

@AlwaysAuntNeverMom We don't spray at my house...it's a personal choice that I just didn't feel comfortable with...we've learned to coexist with the occasional cockroach in our garage and spiders in my house don't bug me at all...we don;t have an ant problem but at my old house we did, and we learned to live with them...that being said, I don;t live somewhere where pests are out of control, so I might have a different feeling about it if I did

So a couple nights ago I took Benadryl in hopes of getting a decent night sleep. Surprisingly, it actually worked and I felt more rested yesterday than I had in weeks! I didn't take any last night, and I slept horrible. Im wondering if anyone has been using Benadryl as a sleep aid and how often you use it? I don't want to take it every night but I'm wondering if it's normal to take it 2-3 days a week.

It's a category B drug, which id personally feel totally fine taking 2-3 times a week. I say if you're comfortable with that and it worked, do it!

@RG1 thanks for the response! I have an appt with my midwife on Tuesday and I'll check with her. But after how badly I slept last night I think I'll be taking it tonight or tomorrow to try to catch some Zzz's.

@ahackett1990 I took it almost daily for about 2 weeks during the third trimester of my first pregnancy to combat some out of control itchiness. My midwife was the one who recommended it, I bet yours will be just fine with you getting some better rest. I was taking it during the day which made concentrating on work even harder!

@ahackett1990 - I'll give advice as a pharmacist, with a full disclaimer that I do not in any way specialize in prenatal medication.. but I see no issue with taking benadryl a few nights per week to help get some sleep. I would caution anyone against using it every night (pregnant or not) as you'd most likely grow tolerant to it pretty quickly and lose its effect.

@ahackett1990 I had to take benedryl for a few weeks due to an insane rash at the beginning of my third tri. My OBGYN and my dermatologist assured me it's absolutely fine to take. My OBGYN even suggested I take it for sleep on the nights I was having trouble.

I took Benadryl in early pregnancy as I had a rash. I took it for a week or so and the doctor recommended it. I bet it's safe, but it's always good to confirm with the Doctor. Hope you're able to sleep better soon!

@Smallinetta and @rock1cherry I had a constant rash on my forearms a few weeks ago and my midwife suggested a topical ointment but said to take Benadryl if it didn't clear up. Fortunately, the ointment worked and I didn't have to resort to Benadryl, but good to know!

@AlwaysAuntNeverMom We do the DIY route but we spray twice a year inside and out. We use Ortho Home Defense Max and I really like it, we only spray around the windows and exterior walls/doors and it keeps them out. Living in Florida there is no such thing as bug seasons and we pretty much have them all year so it is important for us to control them.

We were gifted both a rock n play and an infant floor bouncer chair thing. I already know that I'm not comfortable with letting baby sleep in either of these, but I like the idea of having a spot to put baby down when I need to do something else quickly. Would we be good to return one of these or should we keep both? If so which would you keep and which would you return?

@PoodleDoodleOoo we did not have a rock n play, but we did have a bouncy seat and a swing. Our home is about 1,000 sq feet and I would say it was nice to had more than one place to set baby. You could keep one upstairs, one downstairs, for example.

also, baby might have a strong preference for one or the other.

Does anyone know if BRU will give you cash when you return items on your registry, or is it store credit/gift card only?

We registered at BRU and Amazon, and it's looking like we'll have some store credit at BRU (which is great) but Amazon is so much faster and easier...

@KimmySchmidt - Our house is less than 800 square feet and all one level, so we're really trying (and failing!) to keep the amount of baby stuff to a minimum! We also have a baby swing that I really like, and can't return regardless (it was a hand me down), so I really only wanted one that was portable.

@ahackett1990 she also suggested I use cortisone 10 cream with the Benadryl. Between the two, the rash went away eventually. It was so uncomfortable. Glad it happened early on and not in this heat!

@PoodleDoodleOoo - we didn't have a rock n play, but we had a swing and a bouncy/vibrating chair. I liked the vibrating chair especially for the first month or so. I'd put baby in it and move it to different places in the house (especially the master bathroom so I could take a shower). The two items could be redundant if you are trying to limit "stuff". E napped in his vibrating chair a lot as an infant, but never spent a night in it, I know a lot of people are wild about rock n plays for sleeping, but sounds like it's not in your plan...

@PoodleDoodleOoo I preferred the Rock N Play to the bouncer seat because it was higher off the ground and away from the dog. I had both but ended up getting rid of the bouncer when I rarely used it for baby #2.

@PoodleDoodleOoo - I never had a Rock n Play, but on my last BMB a lot of mothers ended up buying them when they were having trouble finding a place where their baby would actually sleep. The slight incline of the Rock n Play helped for babies with reflux. So you might change your mind on letting your child sleep in it. My son never liked his vibrating bouncy chair so it was one of our least used baby items. And for having a place to put baby down, remember that oftentimes a blanket on the floor can be the best option. It allows them to stretch out and wiggle around a lot more - which I believe it good for their growth & development.

In that case I would pick the smaller thing and set that up, and wait until the baby is born to return the bigger thing. (In case baby doesn't like smaller thing. In which case, if you can't return it, you can at least consign it.)

Yes! I carry the cortisone 10 cream in my purse everywhere I go now! My rash seems to be worse with the humidity so I carry it with me to avoid ugly itchy rash arms when I'm in public. Crazy pregnancy hormones!

@PoodleDoodleOoo I didn't have a RNP last time, but a ton of people on my bmb swore by them and ended up buying them after baby came. Our swing seat comes off and doubles as a bouncer, so we just used that and it was sufficient. This time I bought a RNP because we're now in a house with 2 levels, so one will stay downstairs and one will stay upstairs.
