  • For swaddles - we liked having 2 easy swaddles (still need to get a couple small ones for this dude, only started using them further along last time.. my husband is not a great swaddler for our Houdini baby), and had maybe 4-6 A&A regular swaddle blankets that we used regularly.. didn't need to be washed every day and only used for naps/bedtime.. didn't get dirty unless baby wet through diaper, clothes and onto blankie.. it happened, but not often.

  • @izzetoot o God, that looks good. I love when it has almost burned sausage in it. I like my sausage crunchy....that's what she said?
  • Etiquette question: My mom's friends threw me a shower over the weekend and even though I had input in the guest list, I wasn't remotely involved in the planning.  One of my childhood friends who was a bridesmaid for me 5 years ago and whose mom hosted my wedding shower was not invited to the baby shower.  I haven't seen her in over a year and we haven't talked in that long either.  Her mom saw some of the photos on FB and replied there and texted my mom the day of the shower asking why she and my friend weren't invited.

I would have loved them to be there, but in all honesty I just didn't think of them when looking over the invitation list. I feel bad about it, because we used to be really close, but we've drifted now.  Any suggestions on what I should say to them?

  • @izzetoot oh wow. Those look amazing!!!! I love tator tots in a burrito. I might have to try this out this weekend!!!!!
  • So my mom and sister both insist that baby clothes can only be washed in Dreft brand laundry detergent. My question is - does it really matter? We already use All Free&Clear, which doesn't have any perfumes, dyes, etc.

My son did not react well to Dreft so we purposely use All Free and Clear on baby clothes.  Dreft is heavily perfumed and he was already prone to eczema.  So I would have to respectfully disagree with your mom and sister  ;)
  • We use Honest co, but I think as long as its a 'fee and clear' type is fine.  Its just about keeping the dyes and strong soapy chemicals away from a newborn/childs skin.  Dreft is expensive! With Honest, for $35 a month I get 2 laundry detergents (one pod and one liquid for little loads) and 3 other home cleaning products like soap for bottles, all purpose spray, and dishwashing detergent.

I can't stand the smell of Dreft. We've always used All F&C for all laundry, adult and baby.

It doesn't matter. We used one bottle of Dreft for DD1 then switched her to our laundry detergent (a scented Tide) when it became apparent she wasn't allergic to it. For this baby I got a Free & Clear instead of Dreft, and will do the same thing regarding switching her to the same as ours after it's gone.

  • We used the Target version of Dreft and little man had no issues - he does not have sensitive skin, never reacts to anything. I need my laundry to have a scent (especially for baby), so we didn't do a free and clear. After maybe 6 months we started just using our own detergent for baby since he was up against towels and our clothes and never seemed bothered and we haven't looked back. This time I washed #2's first load with regular detergent, we'll see if we need to do a free&clear depending on baby.
I will add that beyond skin reactions, I'm not afraid of the chemicals in laundry detergent, but that's just me.

  • We just use regular Tide, because we use it for our clothes, the cloth diapers and everything else. Unless baby girl has a reaction, which I hope she doesn't, we'll just keep on using that.

  • I can feel a foot pop out in my rib area when baby is stretching. Is it normal to just feel what I think is one foot? Are some of you feeling both feet?

I just feel a bunch of stuff moving around. Don't really know if it's one foot or both, a leg, a fist, etc. As long as she moves, I don't really think about it.

I pretty much sit off to the side cause I got feet digging in. Not only feet but usually a butt pushing out the side of my stomach and I swear a hand sticking out down below. This girl is out of room!
  • I feel and can see a foot pop out above my rib cage, lol.  Its always around the same time at night or whenever I drink or eat something really cold, but it has definetly gotten more intense and borderline painful the last few times.  This baby wants out!

@PoodleDoodleOoo ditto everyone else! I went shopping for baby-friendly detergent, opened a bottle of Dreft, and was taken aback by how strong the fragrance was. Tide just came out with a new detergent called PurClean (which is more bio-based) and I am loving the very light lavender honey scent. I've been using this to wash baby's stuff and drying the stuff with EcoNuts in the dryer.
  • Last night the baby woke me up with movement.  I felt the outline of a foot poke out by about an inch just below my ribs.  I'm lucky and got an ultrasound a couple weeks ago that told me all that poking on the upper right side is his feet and legs!

  • This little one just likes to push her butt out constantly to the left of my belly button. Saw my midwife today and she said she felt like she was in a great position and starting to center herself head down. It's getting pretty uncomfortable and can be quite painful sometimes when she really pushes her tushy out!

@Jabreen - I'd fudge the truth a bit. I would apologize and say something like "I'm really sorry. The shower was thrown by friends and although they consulted with me for some addresses I never saw the full guest list and had no idea that you all were left out. Thank you so much for thinking of me and the baby during this exciting time, I hope we can get together soon!" ??
@Jabreen , this is also what I would do!!  I would just be thankful to them that they want to celebrate with you. It's weird that they would say something... But I think it's great that they want to be involved. :-)
  • @ahackett1990 oh my lanta this kid is always sticking his butt out!!!
    It hurts man lol.
My FI has a huge booty so I've got a feeling that baby will too :)

Haha my DH has what I like to call a Jamaican thundering man heiny. He also has a pretty wicked head of hair. So I won't be the least bit surprised if our daughter is born with a ghetto booty and an afro

  • @yellowrose314 that's awesome: my DH doesn't have much of an ass but he's Lebanese so he was born with a full head of hair and beautiful long eyelashes. Now he's balding but still has gorgeous eyelashes haha!

  • Hey ladies- sleep has been pretty rough. Not able to sleep at all on my back (I know I know I'm not supposed to) so I am constantly back and forth on my sides which leaves me sore and uncomfortable. I have an adjustable bed and slept on an incline last night so I could sleep on my back a little (I still barely did).

I get pains in my abdomen and vag when I'm on my back. what's that mean?
  • @frogdog06 I'm going to have to try that because it sounds like it smells heavenly!
  • @Ah825 I feel you girl, im the same way.  I caught a cold from LO last week and after talking to OB she suggested benadryl at night.  Even though the cold is about done, im still taking benadryl to help with sleep.  I toss and turn all night w/o it and for the last 4 nights Ive slept for at least 5+ hrs w/o waking and feel glorious in the am  ;)

  • @ah825 wow an adjustable bed would be soooo nice for acid reflux at night!
  • I guesd I havw a labor question! If I am continously monitored during labor, does that mean I can't get out of bed? When I've had NSTs, I've just been really still to not throw off the contractions monitor by moving around. Is that how it would be?

  • @AlwaysAuntNeverMom - FTM here, but our instructor made it seem like if you had internal fetal monitoring, you'd be stuck in the bed. If you have external fetal monitoring or just monitoring the contractions, you will need to stay near the monitoring machine, but can get out of bed and move around. Not sure if your hospital will allow something different though!
  • @AlwaysAuntNeverMom Not sure about your hospital, but mine has an option for mobile continuous monitoring. The sensors are wireless transmitters, so you can wear them while walking.

  • @jbscmama haha I LOVE my adjustable bed! I talked my hubby into buying us one AND a new bed a month or so ago. It's a life saver for my restless leg syndrome! It only took a couple nights to get over the fact we are sleeping like the elderly ;)
  • @PoodleDoodleOoo @Jabreen good to know. I'll be asking about this as soon as I'm admitted!

  • @Jabreen, sounds like she was the one out of line.  It's happened a time or two where I've seen on Facebook that I wasn't invited to a shower or wedding that I thought I'd be and I always just told myself there had to be a reason (accident, limited # of guests, etc) and just looked up a registry and sent a gift or emailed and asked where they were registered because I'd like to send something.
  • First off, thanks to those who gave advice on how to talk to my friend's mom.  For now, I'm leaving things alone so we can all cool off a bit, but it is my friend's birthday tomorrow, so I'm going to call her for that and to catch up.  If the shower comes up, I'll go with the truth, nicely - that I didn't omit them intentionally and that I'm sorry that she and her mom were hurt.

Second, new question!  Anyone have a good source for relatively cheap but still cute thank you cards?  My mom found some adorable ones at Paper Source, but they're $12 for 10 cards...not my idea of a good deal.

  • Does anyone know what birth control they're choosing after LO is born? At my last appt my doctor reminded me that it's time to start thinking about that so I can get something going at my 6 week pp appt. I hadn't even thought of it.
