Trying to Get Pregnant

IF/Testing Check-In Week of 8/1

***General TW that this thread can and will mention MC and loss.***

This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility and it becomes a whole new ball game. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another.  Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say, and treat this like an ongoing conversation.

How are things going? So-So. Still trying naturally this cycle since I will likely O before my appointment.

Any questions? Does anyone have suggestions of things to make sure I bring up with my PCP? Was there anything you wish you had said or asked at your first appointment?

  • @MandyBeeSLP , My PCP and OB were pretty useless. OB wanted to put me on unmonitored clomid. The only poisitve of the OB was she was able to diagnose my PCOS. Honestly, your PCP  isnt the one to go to for TTC issues. Do you have an RE yet?

I would seriously recommend going to an RE. I always had my PCP do my paps as well. I use to get chronic yeast infections and my PCP told me it was no issue just get over the counter stuff. Went to an OB and it was BV. PCPs dont test everything that an OB does.

Regardless, you are 16 cycles in. If you have been TTC over a year with no living child then you will have no issues getting into an RE. PCPs are there for your own health. OBs are meant to keep you pregnant. REs are meant to get you pregnant.

  • Diagnosis (If you've been): diminished ovarian reserve

    Cycle/CD: 11/cd13/1dpo

    Status (WTO/TWW/TTA):  benched until AF

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?)
    Nada. (See below)

How are you doing?: I'm ok - benched due to doctors orders not to BD for 1 week after hysterscopy so we missed FW; hysterscopy went well  just waiting on pathology results but am not worried;  so I asked RE about next steps and if we can do Clomid + TI cycle monitored and she said sure but OH needs to complete his SA and we both need to do the genetic testing first.  OH had an appt 2 months ago for his SA but didn't go and is giving me a hard time about it  - really dude? I've been examined, poked, etc a bunch of times - get over it   So i kinda used some scare tactics with him (prob a FFFC here) but said ok we have two choices - you get the SA and we do the genetic testing with the RE who is going to monitor us with the Clomid and make sure we don't have high order multiples OR I'll just do the Clomid with the OB unmonitored and take the chance...you pick (for the record, I refused to do the Clomid unmonitored with the OB when they suggested it and that hasn't changed  but he doesn't need to know that lol)  so someone will be getting the SA done soon

Any questions?  If you have done the genetic testing, how long did it take for results to come back? We can't start a medicated cycle until that happens and also the SA so I'm thinking it might not be next cycle but the cycle after that since AF is due to show up on 15th

  • @mrsdaddario FX for your IUI tomorrow!!

@MandyBeeSLP I have to echo what @HarryPotterandCats said.  Initial testing (CD3/thyroid etc) with OB is a good plan but if they are like mine and a lot of others I have heard about, the OB may suggest Clomid unmonitored and when i asked about being monitored she didn't even understand why that would be necessary.  My PCP would defer any Ttc questions to my OB.

    Any questions?

@Daisy621 I'm having the same concerns with the Zika, we were hoping to plan a florida trip for Jan/Feb to see the manatees and do Harry Potter World :( I WISH we would have done this last year, but DH never planned it and I was too depressed last winter. DH thought all the cases were from the same area, so maybe Orlando will be ok. My biggest concern is DH getting exposed, and then having the virus for who knows how long! I'm going to ask my RE about this next month and see if they have any newer information or recommendations.

  • @Marley629 This is probably a really dumb question, but what should the doctor monitor with Clomid?

I admit that I am pretty clueless going into this, but I have to start somewhere. Since my insurance doesn't pay for anything related to infertility I was hoping some of the bloodwork could be done at my PCP and coded as something that would be covered. I was also originally thinking I needed a referral but thinking about it again if my insurance doesn't cover anything there's no point in that.

Diagnosis (If you've been): none yet, but high thyroid levels for sure. Also low progesterone from what I can tell l. (6.2 at 8 DPO)

    Cycle/CD: 14/2

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA):  benched due to upcoming HSG.

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Finally get to start the basic tests! DH has his SA on wednesday, and I have blood work and ultrasound on Thursday and HSG on friday.

How are things going? Things are okay. I don't know if I'm more excited or nervous to get diagnosed. Also frustrated that I have to take this cycle off. DH refuses to wear condoms so that means no action for me for a week!

Any questions? Does the HSG hurt? I know it will be nothing compared to giving birth to my future child, but I'm still nervous. I'm imagining it is sort of like gething an ID inserted. Am I way off base?
One more question: has anyone experienced low bbt? Mine is usually like 95 point something. I'm new to temping but that struck me as odd.

GTKY: Do yu believe in extraterrestrial life? Who knows? There's probably something out there!

    **Edited to add additional question

  • Diagnosis (If you've been): ovulation disorder, mild MFI

    Cycle/CD: cycle 13 cd26/13dpo

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA):  TWW... But BFNs so more like wfcd1

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?)
this past cycle was letrozole, pregnyl trigger, progesterone and TI. Moving on to IUI next cycle.

    How are things going?
    heres a hint to that:
I am the proud proud owner of a bridesmaid dress for a wedding in November that is 3 sizes too big (just in case).  I am going to have to have so much material removed from it I could probably make a second dress.

    Any questions?
    Nope
  • @kristismith95 you are gonna get a wide range of answers in the HSG question W because it really seems to be different for everyone. My personal experience is that it was very very uncomfortable, but not agonizing. There was a lot of pressure in my abdomen so it felt like if I moved I might pop. During the HSG one of my tubes would not empty.  It may have been blocked or it may have been that I was so tense it constricted.  As soon as the doc let off the pressure... It was instant relief.  I was a little crampy for the rest of the day and it was fine.  If you go into it expecting a few minutes of great discomfort and a little pain, you'll be better off.  I wasn't expecting it and I think that is why I tensed up and it made it worse.
  • @mrsdaddario  I am watching the clock with you......  Eeeeep!!  Fx so hard!

  • @Daisy621
the cases of local transmission in Florida are so far all related to one small area in Miami.  I currently live in central Florida so I am keeping an eye on this and in general just being smart about it (bug spray, avoiding areas with mosquitos in the early morning and evenings, covering up when possibly (it's so dang hot that one is hard).

September is still mosquito season technically (it's hot and rainy) but it really depends on where you are and whether or not there is a large stagnant body of water nearby.

@Daisy621 and @ReesaAnne16 Also, I recommend the sunscreen that has bug repellent in it! I wear that every time that we go to the beach just in case. It's kind of sticky but I say that it's worth it to be safe!

    Cycle/CD: 9/20

    How are things going? ok

Any questions? Is there really even a point to temping during the TWW especially on progesterone? I assume my temp will just stay high until I stop taking it.

GTKY: Do you believe in extraterrestrial life? hmmm I don't know I never really think about it.
  • @kristismith95 , Everyone will have a different response for the HSG. I had minimal cramping, no spotting. I took 4 advil prior per my REs orders. I have a family member who couldn't go through with it because it was so painful. Due to everyones bodies being so different nobody can really tell you how it will be. Just try to stay calm and relaxed (I know, easier said then done)

@mrsdaddario , thinking of you today! I hope your IUI goes great!

  • @mrsdaddario I'm so glad to hear it went well!!

@madasm0530 Good luck with the IUI!

@kristismith95 Like PP said, everyone will be different, but I took 4 Ibuprofen an hour before and it wasn't pleasant but wasn't awful.  There was a little trouble getting the catheter in and I could definitely feel the balloon that holds it in place, but I didn't have any blockages and didn't feel the dye at all.  It maybe took 10 minutes.  I hope yours goes well!

  • Diagnosis (If you've been): None yet that I know of :open_mouth:

    Cycle/CD: 50/16 so hopefully CD1 soon.

    Status (WTO/TWW/TTA):  WTO I guess

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) I don't have all the details yet but the nurse told me the 7DPO lab results showed I have a hormone imbalance and that my RE wants to start me on a "medicated cycle." Though she didn't include any details on all that. I know my RE had mentioned in my consultation that he suspected a hormone imbalance such as low progesterone in the luteal phase and if lab work confirmed that he planned to start me on Clomid. So I'd assume that's the plan? I'm supposed to call whenever I start my period so we can get the ball rolling on the medicated cycle.

How are things going? Not so well. I'm sorry to be all negative but as my grandmother would say "I feel like a wet rag that's been through the wringer." For those of you who don't know I got trick by not one, not 2, but 5 blue dye tests. 5! On all of them I got faint, but obviously there and clearly blue, positives that appeared immediately. Coupled with a a handful of Wondfos that I could have sworn had super squinters on them I was pretty sure I was pregnant. I told my husband and showed him the blue dye tests. He never, ever sees squinters but quickly agreed that yep those are lines and they're blue and they look very real. We only really got to be happy for a day or two and I noticed the tests weren't darkening, and if anything, they were lightening. I called my RE office Monday to let them know what was going on since my RE had wanted to start me on progesterone if I got pregnant. By Monday morning the tests looked pretty negative so I told them that. They said they wanted to have a beta drawn because obviously if I'm not currently pregnant there is no need for progesterone but otherwise I need to start taking it ASAP. The beta results came back this morning: not currently pregnant.

I don't know what to think. I guess blue dye tests really are the devil.

Any questions? This might be a stupid question so sorry if it is but is it worth doing a medicated cycle if my husband is going to be out of town from CD13- CD20?

  • @NamelessAria Since you do O on your own, I'm assuming the medicated cycles will make your O come around a normal time in your cycle. I.e. CD 12-16. The Clomid, as I'm sure you've probably researched the crap out of lol, will only develop follicles, it won't cause O. In my opinion, doing any type of medicated cycle would be a waste if YH isn't going to be around for it. You could very well miss O completely, and therefore the meds wouldn't have made a difference for that cycle. Even with a trigger shot and IUI, YH still needs to be around during that time frame to give his sample.

@mrsdaddario Yeah that was sorta what I was thinking about the cycle. I was thinking that if I O'd on like CD13, for example, we could theoretically get -2, -1 for timing so it wouldn't be a total waste. But obviously if I O on CD16 our best case scenario timing would be an illustrious -4 so a complete waste of a cycle.

I may just tell them I want to hold off on medication till next cycle unless they have some other reason like wanting to see if the Clomid will actually raise my post-O progesterone levels or something.

@mrsdaddario ugh I know right? I don't know if you say my rant on the whole thing the other day. I think maybe it was one of the TW Tuesdays? I don't even remember. But basically he has to be out of town for work but for work he'd only need to be gone a day or two. So sure he wouldn't be here CD14 and 15 but at least he'd be back home after that. So as long as we had sex before he left Tuesday and when he got home we'd probably be good. But he volunteered to do this bachelor party for his friend in Utah. And I'm really kinda quite angry about the whole thing. Not even really because of how it's probably going to turn this cycle into a throwaway.

ETA: @YesOuiCan my cycles tend to be irregular and I O anywhere from CD13 to CD36 and FF says, based off the past 11 months that I've charted, my average O day is 17.1.  This cycle I'm currently waiting on to end I didn't O till CD34. But the cycle before I ovulated on CD13. So who knows.

  • @mrsdaddario  Yay!  So glad it went well this morning!  FX for you.....

    @madasm0530  GL with your IUI!!

@rh10264706   I am on my third cycle with 100mg progesterone and I still temped.  I saw the rise happen, and last cycle my temps actually dropped significantly, even before stopping the P4, so I would say it's not totally pointless.  I still tried to take my post-O temps with a grain of salt.  Mine so far has not been a very high dose though, and I don't know what dose you're on, or really how high the levels need to be before it just totally gives you a big old fake chart lol
  • @NamelessAria - sorry, I wrote my advice above before seeing your exchange with MrsDaddario! That stinks that the timing will be off.
