I pretended not to see a coworker on the subway this morning because I likes my alone time (and I'm reading a really good book).

I need to go grocery shopping, should have gone two days ago but I just don't feel like going. We have no snacks for my daughter so she's been eating a lot of dry cereal. I literally have nothing to do today but I'm still in my pj's, my husband is home so I wouldn't even have to bring my daughter.
The thing really stopping me is I have to go through the junk drawer to find my new debit card and I'm just not in the mood to get up and look. Lazy doesn't begin to describe me this week.
  • I am in an off-site location for work and was planning on sneaking out at like noon and going home, but my coworkers are ordering lunch from this place I like and it's literally the only reason I'm going into the office for work.

  • @SweetT Have you looked into Walmart Grocery? I started using it about a month ago and it has changed my life! You just make your shopping list online, put in your card info, and set a pickup date/time. Then Walmart Staff does all the shopping for you! All you have to do is pull up to the designated parking spot and they bring it out and put in in your trunk and charge the card on file! Easy peasy, you never even have to leave the car!

I've been meaning to give this a try. I even have $10 coupon. Today seems like the perfect day to try it! Thanks for the reminder.
  • I feel like crap today and have to go into work to settle a cheating issue for a class that has ended and I'm off contract. I suspect that the student changed an answer on his exam sheet while reviewing the exam (to change his grade from an A- to an A) - I now have to spend hours documenting it and hope that my time and effort pays off with real disciplinary action because I'm not in charge of choosing the penalty. I hope the kid faces real consequences for this behaviour, but I'm not confident that he will be. I wonder what sort of story he will concoct in his defence.

If you're a member of Amazon Prime, look to see if your area gets Amazon Fresh.  You can order same day delivery if you order by the cutoff time and they just leave the food on your doorstep.  It's amazing!

  • How do these services work in terms of getting the best/freshest produce? A part of me is tempted because I hate grocery shopping, but I adjust what I get based on what looks good (e.g., type of salad) and I can't imagine that is possible with a grocery service.

Ahhh that's what I'm reading!  Halfway through and I really dig it.  The early chapters owe a liiiiiiiittle too much to Catcher in the Rye, but that seems to fade once Theo

    moves to Las Vegas.

Theo moves to Las Vegas??!  Kidding, I'm just about at the end. DEFINITELY shades of Catcher, plus White Oleander and basically anything Brett Easton Ellis ever wrote. But still totally original?

  • My husband travels for work. He loves seeing new cities and always posts tagged photos to social media. This makes me feel unsafe because to me, it's like advertising that I'm home alone with our small kids. Each time it happens, I explain this (we've talked 3-4 times about this). I just ask him to latergram when he gets back.

He did it again yesterday and I flipped my shit.

Am I overreacting? I feel like this is common sense/reasonable, and I'm resentful that I have to explain this to a grown-ass man.

Every time I've gotten produce, it's been very fresh.  I, too, like to pick out my own produce so it was a little weird giving that control over to them but I haven't been disappointed.

This is how they are packaged/delivered.

Depends. Is it public, or just your friends and family?
  • There are a few people here that I initially was really disliking, but as the board progresses are actually turning out to be some of my faves.
  • I've done Giant and Safeway grocery delivery. I have always been really happy with the produce. My only complaint is that when I want to buy meat I have to do so in very large quantities. There is no option for a small pack or 1 to 2 pounds.

I yelled at my husband the other day when he wanted to stop for an energy drink because things are slow at work and we cut out certain luxuries and impulse buys. Two hours later then went to one of my stores with two of my employees and we drove like 20 minutes out of our way on the way back to go to a waffle truck and I spent like $15 on fancy waffles.

Nope, you are not overreacting. I would be mad too!!
  • For grocery delivery, we use Instacart and Boxed. Instacart is fine, but a bit pricey if you don't have a free delivery coupon. Boxed was....ok.

I am enjoying the fact that my toddlering almost-threenager is in DC these past two days. I don't know what it is but she has been trying my patience a lot more than usual. And then I feel bad, because hey, I want to do this phase all over again! Sigh.

@HeatSparks it's Craigslist we have issues with, my husband thinks it's acceptable to let people come to the house but I always make him set a public meeting spot like walmart... so far I've always won this disagreement and no strangers have been to our home. To me it sounds completely understandable you don't want him advertising that he's away from home. But my husband leaves for work at 6 pm and doesn't get home till about 8 am. I want to be clear that I hate guns, I'm terrified of them and have always since a young child had nightmares of being shot in various locations. But husband loves them so we have quite a few at home safely locked in a gun safe. I had him teach me to shoot and I love it, so we have a large safe downstairs and a small handgun safe in our bedroom that we keep a pistol in. I sleep well knowing I can protect my kids and myself if needed. It might be something you guys want to consider?

  • Lazy doesn't even begin to describe me this week. I need a reboot. Im over work, im over remodeling our house, im over bills, I'm over having to make people in my life happy all the frickin time. My vacation this year is visiting a friend while her husband goes out of state for military training. I want a real vacation with just my husband, we've been married six years and have NEVER been away just the two of us. No honeymoon and no vaca. As you can tell I'm in need of a serious reboot.

In over 8 years of marriage my husband and I have been alone for a total of 12 days. We were supposed to go on a vacation just the two of us this year but the timing of the pregnancy is pushing that back. Maybe for our 10 year?
  • My husband said we'll get our honeymoon for our ten year anniversary - we said that about our five but I was too pregnant then to travel. Hopefully we'll make it happen for our ten year.

  • @HeatSparks that would make me so angry. First of all, it doesn't matter what he thinks- if his wife feels unsafe, then he needs to stop doing it! Make your wife feel safe- this is husband 101. Secondly, you're right. Social media is a huge tipoff to people regarding your daily routine. When my husband is gone, I don't even tell preschool that during drop off/ pick up chatting.  I'm neurotic about it!

Ha! We've been married over 10 years and still haven't been alone more than for company Christmas parties, other than when we first started dating. Everytime we talk about it, I chicken out. I'm super paranoid about leaving our kids to do vacations. We took my parents on vacation once which was great because they watched our son (I was pregnant) while we went for beach strolls or dinner. For us it was ideal because we were still close to our son if something were to happen but had a "babysitter" with us so we could sneak out for a bit. They were ok with it because we paid for the hotel suit and they had plenty of free time, just had a few hours here and there where they were stuck in the room babysitting.

Is bagged sliced pepperoni on the ok to eat list? I think the verboten foods list is overdone in this country so more power to you if you've decided to disregard it, but I've been craving pepperoni and I thought it fell in the category of sliced deli meat that was off limits.

I also spent half an hour yesterday googling whether Japanese women eat sushi while they're pregnant (yellowtail sashimi is literally my favorite food and was a staple) and now I'm entertaining the idea of just going for it, US guidelines be damned.
  • Yeah most of our vacations we take one of our sets of parents along so we can go out. I had a son from a previous relationship that I have sole custody of and we lived with my parents when we first got married and then when we moved out we let my friend live with us until our daughter was born. The upside I keep telling myself is we won't even be 50 when all our kids are adults and we hopefully won't be so broke and can go on good trips haha.

I believe the guideline is you can have deli meats if they are heated to steaming first, though I've just been inhaling my sandwiches with COLD cuts oops.
  • I'm avoiding deli meats. But I'm just in the "follow all the rules" camp when I'm KU.
  • @migdala it's probably a forbidden one! But it's totally a risk I'm taking. I eat delicious turkey sandwiches too.

The Expecting Better chapter on sushi is really informative! According to the book, it can't transmit toxoplasmosis or listeria, the two pathogens that can really put your pregnancy at risk. For whatever reason, though, the idea of me eating raw sushi makes my H super nervous. I told him fine, we'll both take a break from it until February.

I will occasionally have a slice or two of deli ham....I'm not worried about it. Doc also said it was fine to eat runny egg yolk (like over easy eggs or poached eggs) so, I have two over easy eggs just about every Sunday. I think the list of forbidden food is a little ridiculous, to be honest.

If I could get good subs here I'd totally indulge once in a while. I didn't last time and the first thing I had after DD was born was a sub.
I do eat sliced pepperoni occasionally. There are vegetable outbreaks of listeria all the time.
