July IUI

Re: July IUI

  • Does anyone follow any particular diet rules after iui? Last month I ate pineapple and drank pomegranate juice but it didn't do anything for me so I'm not going to repeat this month since I don't really like either. Was just curious if anyone has heard anything else that may help.

  • @BecauseLove & @lady_grey  Good luck today ladies!!! Sending you both lots of baby dust!!

I'm curious about timing. I thought I remembered my Dr mentioning that the IUI would happen approx 10 days post CD1. But it sounds like everyone else is saying CD14/15. Any thoughts on that? I have my baseline ultrasound and labs tomorrow morning so I'll get more info, but just curious.

  • jkd2388 Oh I had a ton of side effects the 1 time I took oviderel...I puked one night out of nowhere, basically all the prego symptoms at high alert! Glad you feel good on them. Isn't it interesting how it works differently for each of us.

Also I tried to drink pineapple juice and eat more of it during the last working cycle but honestly I am not sure any of it works so I kinda just add in when I am feeling hopeful or trying to do everything I possible can. This month though I have not done anything...not taken my Met all the time, not gone to acupuncture, etc and my dr said this cycle was ideal for an IUI and that everything was spot on but like 4 cycles ago I had no mature follies by CD 14 after I totally didn't do anything...so I went back to acupuncture etc and then got a mature follie. . So who freaking knows it all seems like a crap shoot sometimes.

I hope your IUI on Friday goes well!

Hopeful_mom Size 25 Follicle...not sure how many little follies are possible. One of the times I counted and I had 15+ little follies on one ovary and more on the other side plus a dominant follicle that was pretty big. The biggest follicle I have had so far was 27. But I have also had them trigger me on just a 18 follicle. I don't seem to respond uniformly to the same medication to get mature follies. Sometimes my ovaries suck and don't make mature follies at all  even by CD 16 and sometimes they make fairly good sized ones by CD 14/15

Such a bummer about the time you missed the 3 good follies! I would have been totally irked - but not much you can do about it.

    You are in my thoughts!

Isthisthereallife and fivetimesnoluck and jkd2388 and kaityh1 others for the sweet well wishes! Today went really easily. Actually I could feel the IUI more this time..last time I didn't even know she had completed it. But my Dr said that different dr's do different techniques which all feel a little different. But nothing hurt either time.

Random: I read a medical article about how IUI's are more successful when you have a full bladder.

Isthisthereallife You might 0 early or get mature follies early. That happens. But for most people I think they get (some people have more ultrasounds) around cd 12-13 and then go for IUI around CD 14/15. During these many months of trying I have even had a ultrasound done on CD 15 and the IUI done on CD 17.

I have never done baseline ultrasounds because of how far I live away from the dr and I am not sure would ask for them anyways. She basically always just has me drive down for a ultrasound between cd 12-15 and then we figure out where we are and if we will be doing a trigger or not. We have done a bit of TI along with these two IUI's. I would be curious to know more about what your Dr. Recommends.

    madasm0530 Welcome!

lady_grey I hope your IUI today went well! :) What are you going to do to help pass the TWW?

  • Glad it went well today!! Hope this is your month, will be praying for you that it worked!! And thanks for the well wishes :) will be triggering myself in an hour or two
  • @BecauseLove that does make more sense about the size 25, mine was 24 and they said if they waited too much longer the egg would no longer so I'm told.  18 sounds about right, hoping I'll have a few of them next cycle!! It would literally be an act of g-d if I was pregnant this cycle. That's very interesting about your bladder being full, I feel like I have to pee all the time so I purposely emptied my bLadder before the IUI so I wouldn't have to go right after...I guess something to think about for the next time!!

i can't imagine living so far as I literally had to go 4 days in a row, I hate it to say the least!!  And it's a 30 min drive which I try to do in 15 ;) so I'm always late...wish all this could just be a lil bit of an easier process!!  @isthisthereallife For me they don't want to miss my ov so I go on the 2nd or 3rd day of my period so I'm super earlier in my cycle which did put my IUI at cd 10/11.  Sounds like ur dr is probably monitoring you the same.  I prefer it so it gets the ball rolling sooner.

    @madasm0530
    Best of luck to u!!

  • @jkd2388 I keep hearing about pineapple core, but not really sure what it does. I also hear about women drinking cough syrup? I'm not sure what that does either. I guess it doesn't hurt to try anything at this point.
@becauselove I'm glad your IUI went well for you. Fx it works!
2 more days until my US. I'm feeling negative tonight about it all. I just have a bad feelings my follies aren't going to be growing. I know she can give me more Femara and have me come back, but I just don't know. How do you all stay positive?
  • @Toby102008 I tried the pineapple core last month, it was hard to eat and didn't taste very good so I think I'll pass on it this month, didn't work anyways.
And I have been feeling pretty negative the past few days, I just feel like I'm going through the motions at this point because the dr. said I have to. I think just allowing myself to cry when I feel like crying and talking to my husband about it helps. What dose of femara are you on?
  • @jkd2388 I'm so sorry you're feeling down. I too feel like I'm just going through the motions, like I'm not really living at this point, just waiting around for something that might never happen. I was very upset myself last night. I just have a bad feeling about tomorrow. I'm on 5mg. She was going to start me at 2.5 but after looking at how I didn't respond to Clomid she wanted to start at 5. Like I said before, I know it's a completely different drug but I still don't feel very hopeful. I don't know what I'm going to do if I go in there tomorrow and all I have is a bunch of tiny follicles that aren't doing anything. I know we can try injectables, but my insurance won't cover those like they do the Clomid and Femara and its a lot more money to go that route. The financial burden of this is so darn stressful. It's so much money OOP, espcially when the odds are not in our favor. Sometimes I wonder if I'm better off waiting and saving to go straight to IVF. The only problem with that is, that I don't want to wait! If there's the slightest chance IUI will work and I don't have to spend the 12 grand on IVF, then I want to try it. My biggest fear is wasting money on IUI, then it not working and having to do IVF anyways. I'm just praying for good news tomorrow. I need some good news!
  • @Toby102008 I know this is so hard. And the financial burden is immense. One day, it will all be worth it - but the journey itself is not easy. Like you said, it's a different drug and your body may react differently. In my opinion, I'd give this a shot. Know how many IUI's your willing to try before going a different route, and keep in mind that if the IUI works - you will be happy you didn't fold. I can't imagine it will be easy moving straight to IVF and wondering, "what if?".

@jkd2388 Have faith girlie! It does feel sometimes like we're just waiting and waiting and waiting. Keep your head up. Don't forget whatever meds you're taking right now are probably affecting your mood and your outlook. It will get better!

@Hopeful_mom Glad I'm not alone! I had my baseline US this morning and I'm excited to talk to this nurse this afternoon and find out what next steps are!

  • I don't think I have been all that positive during the time we have been trying but at the same time I really work on not letting this stuff get me down. I have a good life and if the worst thing in my life is that I have to continue TTC and hoping...that isn't the worst. Not that I think you need compare 1 worst to the next. I guess I just think that everyone has struggles whatever they may be...and I guess in this case this is my struggle (or one of many struggle). Ps. though sometimes I want to take pictures of all the empty med bottles/needles and post it on fb and be like does anyone know how hard this TTC thing is. (There is a picture out on fb of a baby that was conceived by some lady that she has a heart around the baby of all the meds she had taken ttc. It really resonated with me though. link: https://www.today.com/parents/moms-photo-ivf-baby-surrounded-syringes-inspires-potential-parents-t49276

jkd2388 Thanks! Happy triggering to you!

Hopeful_mom Femera I guess only creates 1 mature follicle unlike clomid that can create multiple mature follies. Ps. Sometimes acts of G-d happen! :) It could be your time..ya never know! Yeah I am pretty sure I emptied my bladder right before my first IUI because who wants to lay on the table having to pee and waiting. That is awesome that you O on your own. I haven't really had success with that...which is one of the reasons for all the drugs and also why they aren't all that worried I will O before I get in for my CD 14 or 15 Ultrasound. Driving isn't all that bad as my dr really only has me come down about 1-3 times per cycle...but still wish it was closer.

Toby102008 Thanks! I hope that today helps pep you up. Sometimes this ttc is like being on a roller coaster of emotions. I have done the 2nd dosage of femera in a cycle to create a fake second cycle. :) Hopefully you won't have to do that but if you do hopefully it is what will bring you extra luck!

  • @isthisthereallife Thank you. My RE said we could do 4 IUIs. I think because I've already done 3 Clomid cycles she doesn't want me on all these drugs for too long because of increase risks in cancers with them. I'm thinking maybe just doing 3 and if they don't work then moving to IVF. I know I've read if IUI is going to work it usually works within the first 3. We will just wait and see. Glad you had your baseline u/s. Let us know what the nurse says. :)

@becauselove I also saw that picture that lady posted with all her needles and bottles with the onsie. DH and I were thinking of doing something similar when we finally do conceive. People need to be aware that IF is real and it's all around us. I've tried to be more open to talking to people about it, but it's still hard. It's such a taboo subject and you tend to see people open up and talk about it once they actually do conceive, not while they are still trying. It's tough to talk about for me because I've gotten a lot of useless advice and people just don't get it. I'm trying to stay positive and I know one way or another my RE will get me to ovulate. It's not a matter of IF, it's just a matter of WHEN. But my patience is wearing thin. Lol. I'm not a patient person to begin with and this drives me nuts!
  • @Toby102008 I was taking 5mg also of femara this month and I have two follicles ready to go. So don't lose hope! On clomid I had 3 or more, but thin lining.

@Isthisthereallife thanks, I'm trying! Just helps to know I'm not in this alone.

Triggered last night and iui is tomorrow morning. Unfortunately we have a wedding to go to tomorrow night so I'll just be sitting around there and can't drink. But hopefully will be a good distraction.
  • @Toby102008 I think about the financial burden all the time.  I, too, always wonder if we shouldn't just save up and put the IUI money towards IVF, but then I think "what if this one time works".  My insurance does not cover IF drugs or procedures at all so my RE had me apply for Compassionate Care - if you qualify, you get a discount on meds when you order through Freedom Fertility Pharmacy.  Maybe that's something you can look into?

@madasm0530 Welcome and FX for you!

@jkd2388 I tried to eat pineapple core for my first IUI but it was so tough and really sour so I didn't keep up with it.  This time around, I'm just going to try and stay away from sugar, drink lots of water and try to eat as "clean" as I can (which is tough because I seem to get crazy food cravings from my meds).

AFM, I started my Letrozole on Monday and Gonal F last night.  We go back for an US next Wednesday so I am anxiously excited about seeing how my follies do!  Last cycle, we did not do Letrozole and so we had a lot more monitoring and knew what to expect.  This time around I feel really in the dark but am trying to stay optimistic!  I hope all you ladies are doing well!

@Toby102008 I could not agree with you anymore! Our RE said he could do IVF anytime but that we may have success with IUI. I just can't justify spending thousands and thousands of $$ yet just because waiting for IUI is excruciating....and it is EXCRUCIATING.

The needle photo was really moving. And hits home to how many people silently struggle and only come out in the open after a success. I've started opening a little bit and telling a few close people. I think the hardest part about that is having them ask me, "what's happening? What's next?" I'm worried how I'm going to handle it if it's a BFN or worse and then I'm left having to face that. It's like a double edged sword, it's good having the support from them....but....

No news for the nurse yet! Anxiously starring at my phone!

  • @jkd2388 I'm hoping for at least one good follie tomorrow. At least my apt is early so I can get it done and over with. Good luck in the morning. :)

@kaityh1 Thank you for the information. I will definitely look into that! My insurance covers Clomid and Femara. I've just had to pay the $10 co pay. But I'm not sure about injectables if it comes to that. I'm glad you're staying optimistic. The hardest part is waiting and wondering what you're body is doing and if it's responding to meds. Good luck!

@isthisthereallife We were also given the option to do IVF, but my RE said we had a good shot with IUI and our biggest challenge would be getting me to ovulate. DH had a very high count with his last SA. You're completely right that the wait is excruciating. And as painful as BFNs have been so far, I know after spending all this money now, that it'll be 100x worse to see one now. Ugh, why can't this just be easy?!? We're all waiting on your nurse with you. Fx she calls soon!
  • Ahh she finally called. Baseline US & labs all looked good. Looks like we're going to do a clomid cycle and will start it on Saturday. Then go in for an US next Thursday. If there's a mature follicle then we'll do the IUI on Friday or Saturday. If not, we'll start injectables on Thursday and then potentially do the IUI the following week.

    Hurry up and wait!

  • Thank you @BecauseLove. Definitely going to have the DH do it. I'm a big baby. lol!  I typically have pretty long cycles (avg 34 days) so I wonder how that will affect it.

  • @isthisthereallife Yay! You can finally get started. Fx for good follies. That's the other thing I was wondering about myself too. If my follies haven responded to the Femara can she give me injectables in the same cycle. I'd almost rather try that than keep taking pills that aren't working. I'm glad you can get your SO to do them for you. My DH would never. Lol. He HATES needles. I'll be doing them all myself if it comes to that. I have long cycles as well, it tends to take longer for my follies to grow. That's all I've noticed so far.

Hi all! I'm a little late to the party :)

Month/Cycle: Been trying a little over a year now, but this is our first cycle with Clomid/IUI

    CD or DPO: CD15

WAYDTGKU:prenatal, Clomid, ovidrel trigger, estriodal for thin lining and progesterone

IUI Date: today! 7/14 . First IUI, had 4 follicles so we shall see!!

Testing: blood test is scheduled for July 29 so I'm going to do my best to hold out

What is the most random thing you’ve ever watched all the way through on Netflix? I can't remember the name but it was about a girl who grew up in a bunker

  • @kristynelson13 Welcome and good luck. :)

@BecauseLove  my tww is going slowly but I'm one week down now! I've had a persistent headache for the past few days, I suspect that it's from my endometrin I started on Monday. I go tomorrow for blood work to check my progesterone levels and hopefully I won't have to increase the endometrin like I did last month. Then one more week of waiting.   Hope your iui went well and your tww goes quickly :-) good luck!
  • Thank you for all the luck wishes!  You guys are so awesome.  It really is such a comfort to have a group going through a very similar struggle as me.  How did people do this before the internet and before medical science had all these advances?  *Shutters at the thought*.  THANK GOODNESS for modern medicine.

@kristynelson13 welcome!  I hope your IUI went well yesterday!  4 follicles, so exciting!!

@BecauseLove Thank you!  My IUI went okay, I was post-night shift so I was delirious, they had me waiting for a while in a cold exam room so that wasn't ideal but at least it kept me awake!!  I've read that about having a full bladder too.  My office says "don't empty you're bladder" when they bring you into the room, so I looked it up to see if there was any evidence to back it up - and there is!  So I was squirming because I had to pee so bad AND cold.  Hahaha!  At least it's over, now the question is how to get through the TWW?  We are having a big backyard BBQ tomorrow, so that will keep us busy with all the prep, then all the clean up, for the next couple days at least.  :)

@Toby102008 I can totally relate to your sentiments about this whole process.  The ups and down.  All the waiting is agonizing.  You are definitely not alone.  At least we are all in this together!

@Isthisthereallife good luck with your clomid cycle!  That's exciting!!! <3

Sending out positive vibes to everyone today.

  • Thank you everyone! I'm excited.

@lady_grey I never heard the full bladder thing...what's the logic behind that?

@SJG how exciting!!! FX and hopefully the next week flies by!

@kristynelson13  Welcome & good luck!!! 4 Follies is awesome!!

@Toby102008  My RE will try the injectables in the same cycle if the clomid doesn't do the trick. Maybe yours will too if it comes to it? This way you don't have to wait another cycle. What CD are you on?

@elisam511 how are you doing girlie?? Do you have a beta today?

  • @isthisthereallife I'm on CD 12. Going in for midcycle u/s right now. My apt is in 45 minutes. I'm nervous, anxious, and am just keeping my fx for a positive result today. I'll let you all know. My RE had said if I wasn't responding they could give more Femara in the same cycle, but I'd rather try injectables and just get this show on the road! Be back on shortly.
  • @Toby102008 good luck at your appointment! hopefully there is a response or move straight to injectibles!

@Isthisthereallife Thank you! It went well, we shall see. Now the dreaded wait! I made my DH give me the shot as well. He hates needles but no one passed out :)

  • Well, as expected, my appointment sucked. A whole bunch of tiny follies but my biggest was 8. So we're going to do a piggy back cycle and start 7.5mg of Femara today for 5 days. Then go back next Thurday to check again. I asked about injectables but she said they make her nervous right now because I have soooo many little follies she doesn't want to overstimulate. Which I thinking is bs. Obviously there is no such things as overstimulating with me. My follies are useless. I'm so irritated right now, even know I knew this is what was going to happen. It took everything I had to make it out to my car before I broke down. I'm trying so hard to stay positive, but right now I'm losing hope.

@jkd2388 I hope your IUI goes well. Fx for you.
  • @Toby102008 I'm so sorry. I know how it feels to not have follies respond. Your RE might have a point though about overstimming - you don't want to have the cycle be for nothing if they grow to fast and too big at this point.

I did one cycle with 2 rounds of Femara before with a trigger and responded pretty well.

    Take care of yourself!

@Isthisthereallife thanks!! Trying to stay positive and hoping these two weeks go by quickly.
Good luck to everyone whether you are still pre-iui, coming up on your iui or in the tww. Keeping my fingers crossed for us all this month!!
  • @Toby102008 Keep your head up girl! There is still hope for this cycle, you're not out. The Femara might work and you'll grow some beautiful mature follies for Thursday. Don't give up! Thinking of you and anxiously awaiting Thursday for both of us!

@jkd2388 What are you going to do with your TWW? Anything fun planned to keep you occupied?

    Good luck ladies!!!

  • Thank you all so much. It's just so frustrating. More waiting and wondering. She debated doing another 5mg or 7.5mg and decided on 7.5. She was saying something about me being so thin and not wanting to give me too much. Whatever that means. I know she knows best so I just have to trust that she'll figure out what'll work best for me. Now I have to impatiently wait another week. Ugh!

Hope everyone else is doing well. How are you all staying busy to help with all this darn waiting?
  • Just planning to work as usual for the next two weeks so that should keep me busy. I do have another wedding next Saturday and all my family will be in for that one so that will be nice. Though if they ask me about when I'm going to have kids I may just have to give in and say I'm working on it. I don't feel like it's something I should feel like I have to hide!
  • Also what do you all do during the tww in regards to alcohol, none at all or a glass or two won't hurt? Just trying to decide what to do since I have a wedding tonight and next weekend.
  • @jkd2388 I was thinking the same. I will probably drink this weekend . Try to take it easy next weekend , I always heard drink till its pink but not sure if it's the best plan or not
