Re: July Randoms Thread

  • @seitzy3 don't feel silly at all! When I read your mom was coming, I told DH "you better believe we'd do the exact same thing for Amelia! (the LO in my belly)". Besides, it's better that the contractions stop before she leaves. That way, if she absolutely had to go back, neither you or her would be stressed out about what would happen. Relax, enjoy the help and take it as easy as possible.

  • @camichael84 I have a cherry pitter from bed bath and beyond which is great. Does 4 cherries at once. You still have to double check em but it works great!
  • @Megan324 - SO FUN! Makeup and something cute to accentuate the bump! Work it, mama!  Hope you have a wonderful time... eat delicious food and laugh to the point of tears!

  • @seitzy3 Bahahahahahaaa that's a hilarious laugh symptom. DD just kept saying, "oooooh Daddy!!!" Every time he sat her down and then saying "two? Two?" Because he always says, "one, two, three!" When he does it. It was pretty freaking cute. So cute I almost peed.

also, so glad everything is calming down for you! And sometimes, being the strong mom means showing your kids that sometimes, you need help and it's okay to ask for it instead of struggling through it alone. You did the right thing!

@PSUBecky23 Yes! Resting bitch face all the way. Sometimes it's a curse, but most of the time it's an amazing blessing. :)

Yea, tell me I'm huge. This is what you get:

  • @AnnaS930 I think that since she announced it and linked it herself on the August board it is fine to post a link here. I don't believe anyone that follows that link would bring negativity to her blog.

Yesterday morning I ran into the corner of a table. I hit right about 3in below my belly button.  It hurt really bad and almost brought tears to my eyes.
Last night I was super crampy but brushed it off.  Woke up this morning crampy and it continued through the day.  It's like one long BH but I can never determine a start and stop.
I'm not sure if it's even connected to running into the table or not, but I'm paranoid.
No serious harm could have been done right?!
Babygirl was super super active all yesterday but kinda quite today but I am still feeling occasional movement.

eta: I'm not worried that I hurt her, just that it could have caused something?!?

Having a slight freak out moment over here.

We had our hospital tour on Saturday.  Guys, this is a "baby friendly" hospital which has some things I love but I don't love the lack of nursery.  We do EVERYTHING on our own with nurse "supervision." With the 50/50 odds of having a RCS that's especially scary to me.  After the CS with DD I had to get up to walk 5 feet a few hours after the epidural wore off.  I looked like and thought I was going to fall backwards.  I'm trying to imagine having to change diapers, pick up baby from his bassinet, give him his first bath, and clean up major blowouts all within a few hours of being cut open.

I'm going to really need the constant help and support of DH.  The thought of him leaving my side at all scares me and significantly changes our plans for DD.  At the hospital tour we were explicitly told that the father or another support person is required to be in our rooms at all times.  We had originally planned on DD being home by herself for the time I was in labor and for part of recovery until DH could get home to pick her up to visit.  He was going to shuttle DD back and forth between the hospital and our home.  We had planned on being able to have more support from nurses while DH was away.  Between the exhaustion of having a baby, being woken up by nurses who are checking me, being woken up by the baby for feeds/changes, etc. we now need to rethink our plans.  And the last time I had a kid you were discharged from the hospital within 24 hours for most vaginal deliveries.  That's now 48 hours.  When did that change?

Another random - at my check up today I got the Dtap vaccine and my doctor said we're having the worst outbreak of whooping cough in 70+ years and stressed the importance of all family getting updates.  I know all the moms here are familiar but thought I would share.  Before this I hadn't seen that the outbreak was this severe but the doc said it's been covered pretty well by the media.  Too busy Bumping I guess ;)

I too have been following the blog.  I think it's amazing that she's able to write thoughtful posts everyday in addition to having a toddler, being there for Emmett in the hospital, returning to work, and everything else she's been doing.  She's a tough cookie!  I'll admit that (selfishly) it's helpful to be able to think "okay, if my baby came now, this is what our situation might look like..." and before reading her blog I'd never heard about "wimpy white boy syndrome."  I love this blog and can't wait until she posts about getting to take Baby Emmett home.

  • Are any of you getting big, clear reactions from baby when there is a loud noise? I can't decide if I am or not. Baby kicks a lot in general on most days so it's a little hard to tell. Does this get more obvious later on in pregnancy? Nothing I'm concerned about. Just curious.
  • @Sbrown721 yes! I noticed it during Fourth of July weekend with the fireworks
  • My baby was not happy on Fourth of July because of the fireworks @sbrown721. He snuggled so close to my spine that my belly was actually all soft and squishy. He has only had that strong of a reaction to sound that one time.
  • Pretty sure my baby flipped over the weekend, since I had a day of strong discomfort and now I am finally feeling movement above my belly button. Only problem now, I think the little bug is keeping their feet on my stomach. I've had heartburn for months, but it is constant and unrelenting now. Zantac and tums aren't really helping anymore. I wish Pepto were an option!

  • @Sbrown721 My first never responded to noise or really any other stimulus (like light shining on my belly or sugar). She moved only when she wanted, too. Almost every NST I had they'd have to use the buzzer on my belly. She only responded to that once. This one is the total opposite and moves so much that I haven't ever identified what gets her going.

  • I just saw an Instagram photo a girl from college posted of her two kids in the car and the barely one year old is sitting forward facing. How do people not know that isn't ok (not to mention soon to be illegal in my state)?

So we can add me to the list of bumpies with kids that have HFM. Poor kid!

Question - I know it can't be treated and just pretty much runs it's course (unless symptoms are bad enough for treatment, ie fever reducers, lidocaine salves for sores, etc). DDs case seems super mild (so far anyway) so is it awful to skip the trip to the ped? Anyone know when it's no longer considered contagious? That's really my biggest question at this point - when is it safe to send her back to daycare - and really the only reason I'd take her to the dr because she's otherwise managing fine.

  • Hopefully last update about the painters from hell:

They finished on Tuesday as planned, but ever since we've been finding small problems pretty much everywhere.  We had their supervisor come out today for a final walk through and he agreed that the job they did was unacceptable and said that there was something going on with the crew of painters we had, but wouldn't elaborate.

They're going to be sending out an entirely new crew soon to fix the problems they left and repaint the master bathroom for the third(!) time (there's a ridiculous amount of problems in there, especially for such a small room).  He also left a container of Oops so we can fix drips and splatters on the floors and trim while we're waiting (including a 6" x 0.75" splattered streak of red paint down the molding of our master bathroom door).

So, yeah...not thrilled they have to come back again, but at least we're getting different people and they've acknowledged that things weren't done right the first time.  Hopefully this will be the end of it.

The only thing they say they probably can't fix is the paint in our bathroom leeching oil (the walls look like they've got water running down them in a million closely spaced drips) every time we take a shower longer than 5 minutes, even with the door wide open and the exhaust fan running full blast.  Apparently there's nothing to be done about that (we had the same problem, but not as bad, with the previous paint job, so it's clearly not a "them" issue), other than possibly getting a stronger fan, although they are completely re-painting again. :frowning:

I feel like people don't realize how close September is. It seems like summer just started and fall is so far away, but it's only 2 months.  Most of us are at least 75% done and that's pretty far along! We SHOULD have a belly!
I think you nailed it. People hear "September" and think "fall" and it feels like summer has really only just begun.

I get the sense of denial. Who wants to think about September in July? Worst!

Omg double quoted. Longest reply ever. But I'm happy the supervisor is sending new people to solve the problem! Did he mention some sort of discount? I'd be pissed if I had to pay full price for all the crap you went through

@camichael84 good luck with the potty training adventure (aka shit show)!! I highly recommend the 3-day method, esp since you're a SAHM. It was my "project" over 4th of July weekend and by the third day, I could really see progress with my DS ( he is about 3mos older than your DD). We have been out of diapers for over a week now and he goes into the bathroom and sits on the toilet by himself! (Knocks on all wood) Hope he keeps up the good work and doesn't regress. Let me know if you want more info or need to scream! :)
  • I just walked to 7/11 for my slurpee and I got effing cat called even though I'm nearly 30 weeks pregnant and was pushing my kid in a stroller. Wtf is wrong with people? What a wang.

eta: Is it ok to teach my 2 year old daughter to yell "suck my dick!" at people when they do that? Because I'm pretty sure I just did.
Man that happened to me like a month ago. I'm like I'm very married and very pregnant... how may I help you?

Just take it that your sexiness cannot be denied!

  • @RG1 No discount mentioned, but I think DH is going to talk to them about it.  We're having an issue because my parents paid these idiots and my dad doesn't think a discount is in order (in spite of being pissed at what a ridiculously bad job they did).  I think his reasoning is that they agreed to the price and the job was completed, never mind that it was done poorly, to say the least.

My mom, DH and I all think we should get some money back, but my dad is technically the one who paid (although it was both his money and my mom's) since he set everything up and write the check and is being stubborn, so who knows where it's going to go.

It's a pretty ridiculous situation all around.

  • @mojiejo is it possible that your bathroom vent isn't venting properly? Or needs cleaning? I know we need to vacuum it out here and there and when we first moved into our house, the bathroom vent was venting into the attic not outside like it was supposed to. Maybe the hose is disconnected or something. My sister had the same issue in hers and hers wasn't working well / caused damaged to her walls and ceiling. Just a thought.

Varies by states. Many states are finally understanding how important rearfacing until two or longer is and making it a legal requiremen.

Yep, @asht it's illegal in Oklahoma too. They have to be rear facing until 2.
