Re: June/July IVF or FET

  • @wifeinraleigh28 I'm so sorry to hear that! That does totally blow! Try not to kick yourself too much or go down the "what-ifs" path. As much as waiting sucks, hopefully this time in two months you will be knocked up! Like @caseyw8784, I know all about the waiting, I was originally scheduled for a Dec/Jan IVF and ended up being May/June. Hang in there!

  • @wifeinraleigh28 - I'm so sorry you guys weren't accepted into the trial... and that waiting for the trial is what drove the 3 month delay in starting IVF, no way around it, everything about the situations totally sucks!

  • I'm having a rough day.  AF made her arrival this AM... I was still holding out a tiny grain of hope that maybe we'd have some vacation magic and I'd get pregnant this cycle with just letrozole & TI.  Particularly, I'm just having a really hard time waiting 5 more weeks for our first IVF appointment.  I made the appointment 4.5 weeks ago and the needless wait is just killing me.  Almost 10 weeks to get an appointment when I was already a patient?!  That just seems nuts.  If I would've known that was going to be the case - I would've scheduled the IVF appointment at the same time I scheduled our first RE consult for IUI!

There are only 2 IVF clinics in Iowa... one at The University of Iowa and one on the other side of the state, that's like 150 miles away.  So unfortunately, I'm really at their mercy when it comes to scheduling.

@wifeinraleigh28 I'm so sorry you didn't get accepted:(. What a letdown...I was really pulling for you.  It sucks to have to have waited that long but I hope you can pick right up and start as it sounds like that's exactly what you are doing.  The worst thing about all this ivf stuff is waiting but once it's started its a whirlwind.  Hoping you can start soon!

@BlueEyedDreamer great news for you...congrats!  I would say it looks like this is the real thing!  Hope Friday's test confirms it!

@LinZ528 welcome to the board! Sounds like you've had a hard road here so far so I'm sorry for that.  10 eggs retrieved is awesome though and icsi totally helps with making sure those embryos fertilize well so things look good for you now! I also waited a month for a FET as my body was in need of a rest after ER.  Let us know when you get any updates about your embryo growth!  Good luck to you!

@emgem819 Yeah, when he did the trigger shot, as soon as he stuck it in, I was like "You need to hurry, I'm gonna black out", then I woke up about 5 minutes later on the floor. He finished the shot while I laid there, just in case. We're not sure why it happened, but we know that if we have to do it again, I'll lay down, just in case.

@mtpbadger You're probably just having withdrawal bleeding. It happens to me every time I stop taking bcps. My calendars even say "expect period" for the few days after I stop bcps.

@wifeinraleigh28 Oh no!!! I'm so sorry to hear that you weren't accepted! Lame!!

@wifeinraleigh28 I would be very disappointed and angry too.  I'm sorry you weren't accepted.  I think it made sense to wait and see if you got into the trial, plus you were able to do you last covered IUI.  You won't have to worry with 'what-ifs' at all.  I hope your wait to start IVF goes by quickly.

  • @wifeinraleigh28  Dangit, I am so bummed for you!  I wonder what in the world can cause AMH to fluctuate that much?  The wait is so incredibly frustrating.  I felt like I was walking through quicksand to even get to my first IUI.  It was setback after setback.  The ball is rolling now though and you'll get to go with your original plan and hopefully a BFP in ~2 months!!!!

  • @wifeinraleigh28 I am pissed for you! The AMH level is such a strange thing, I read it's a newer test and not really 100% accurate. Mine went from over 7 to in the 6's and now 1.4 in less than 6 months. Since I know I've only ovulated once in the past 6 months it makes me wonder if you can really trust those results.
  • I forgot to post, I did my first acupuncture apt on Friday. Has anyone else had the cupping done? I was so nervous I was going to have welts on my stomach from them I couldn't relax. Also the acupuncturist hooked up the needles on my abdomen to a machine that made them dance, it was very strange. But if it helps what the heck!

  • Hey all, just checking in. Thank you for the kind responses. It has definitely been a rough couple of months, but it has also taught me about how strong I can be! It's amazing the things we women can handle when we have to, isn't it? We're a tough bunch, and I think IVFers may be among the toughest :)

@AandDM2014, I had a similar experience with one of my Gonal-F shots which was weird because I'd been doing them for awhile with no issue. It was my morning shot, so I kind of wonder if maybe my blood sugar was low or I was really tired or something and that just sent me over the edge. I laughed a little at your husband's determination to 'get er done' because MY DH would've panicked, we would've missed the shot altogether, and I would have woken up super mad! Good job hubby for thinking clearly lol.

We just learned that of our 12 eggs, 4 of them were injected (ICSI) and 2 were fertilized. I'm a little bummed about this, obviously, because I had hoped for a larger number....but it was also somewhat my expectation based on my estraidol. But as my parents reminded me this morning, people conceiving naturally are usually only dealt one fertilized egg at a time and that it only takes one, so I'm remaining positive! If we have to do a second round, we have enough semen frozen for future ICSI and I feel like I can mentally and emotionally handle going through it again, so I guess we will start saving just in case ;) In the meantime we have lots of lovely people praying for our little eggies to be as stubborn as their parents are in the next several days!

Question, I'm still somewhat sore today from the ER, just cramping...it's okay to use a heating pad, right? I put in last week to have both today and tomorrow off, so I can take it easy, but I'd much prefer trying to deal with the pain in other ways before touching the pain killers they sent me.

  • @LinZ528 Welcome to the group! So sorry to hear about your friend.  Your positive outlook on everything is inspiring! :)  It does seem like the fertilization rate of the eggs was a little lower that you might expect.  Out of the 12, were all of those mature eggs? Either way, you are so right that it only takes 1!  FX that the fertilized embies keep on growing! Also, yes heating pad should be fine!  I used one after my ER.  Are you planning on doing a fresh or frozen transfer?

@wifeinraleigh28 Such a bummer that you weren't accepted into the trial!  But, like others have said, at least you know that you tried all of your options and now you have a plan to move forward.  I'm sure your DH will simmer down soon!

@babylonghorn16 So sorry that the fresh transfer didn't work out. But, it's good that your doctor is aware of what happened and you can keep on moving to the FET! I just know you will get that positive outcome soon!

@msirni0 Congrats on Trigger and ER schedule! Unfortunately I don't have any tips on the IM trigger shot.  Luckily mine was subQ. I know plenty of ladies here can give good tips though!

  • @Monica54321 Hugs to you! 10 weeks to wait for an appointment is crazy! Is there any way they can put you on a waiting list for an earlier appointment in case any cancellations happen? I might just call them once a week to check...it might drive them crazy but at least they will remember you if an appointment does become available! :)  Best of luck to you and hang in there!

  • @babylonghorn16 I went to a picnic this weekend and a friend who had a failed first fresh cycle and went into a successful frozen one!  they just found out!  My thoughts are with you and I know it's hard sometimes to hold on to the hope when you hear disappointing news.

@LinZ528 wow you are a stim champion.  i feel for you for how long you were on those things!

@wifeinraleigh28 ugh!  frustrating!  but so happy you are now moving ahead with the journey and don't have to wait anymore!

@Monica54321 sorry to hear that AF came around.  On to IVF!

@ale9687 I had those cups applied to me one time when I did accupuncture in the past for anxiety.  how wierd was that feeling?

afm:  Dr. is thinking that the egg retrieval will be on Friday.  He said he is thinking we are going to have 6.  I hope that is enough to work.  I said that sounds low and he said he is happy with my numbers and said I was young and didn't want my estrogen to get up too high.  All I can do is trust the guy right?  He sees tons of people like us and he just got my friend pregnant?

  • @pnw12rn the delestrogen shots aren't all that bad! I did my first one on Saturday and compared to the PIO I thought it wasn't as bad, but I'm only doing .2ml, compared to 1ml of PIO. I found it to not take as long to go in and no soreness after. Maybe it's not as thick as the PIO?

  • @Kellyfish79 I'm not sure how many were mature, they just uploaded a very basic report into my patient portal. I'll get a more detailed reported tomorrow or Wednesday I think.

Our doctor really expected we would only get 6 or 7 eggs total, and was surprised at 12. So, I bet most of them just weren't very 'good'. I feel like a lot of posters have talked about their estradiol levels being way higher than mine. The highest mine ever got was 266 pg/ml, I don't really understand the units of measurement but I feel like a lot women have talked about much higher numbers than that. If anyone has any thoughts or insight on that one, feel free to share.

We are doing a frozen transfer next month. Doctor felt like after 15 days of stims, my lining wasn't good quality, and that my body needed time to recover before we did anything else.

@cmm012 I started PIO 5 days before my FET.
@wifeinraleigh28 I'm so sorry the trial didn't work out. I was really rooting for that trial for y'all. However, now you can finally move on and get your IVF cycle rolling. So excited that your IVF journey is starting.

The last time I filled my estrogen patches I was given a different brand than usual. The patches are huge (like 2.25inX1.75in) and made me have a terrible rash on my belly. I'm stopping in to see my RE tomorrow to see if there's anything that needs to be done. I'm also having a second beta tomorrow...fx for a good rising number.

  • @cmm012 I will start my progesterone 5 days prior to FET. My dr said that's pretty standard if you have a 5day blast. Less days of progesterone if you have a day 3.
  • I'm a little late, but I have been lurking for weeks. Love the support and info on here. I started stims last night and will be doing ER around June 23, with a fresh transfer 3 or 5 days later. My RE made a comment that really bothered me today, he pushes for genetic testing, which means FET at my clinic, well we couldn't afford the extra money for it, so we choose to stick with a fresh cycle, no testing. He said something along the lines of " I haven't done a fresh transfer in months". Rrrrr just annoyed, he normally isn't like that, but man that made me mad.
So, I see a few FETs on here, anyone having a fresh cycle? Also, anyone willing to share their dosage on meds? Mine is double what i did the first time, so I'm just curious if it's age related or what.

@Tusername and @mtpbadger Thanks for the info about the PIO. I feel better now.

@annebenton22 I had a moderate case of OHSS, and I was bloated for 2 weeks. I knew the very next day after ER that something was wrong. Monitor your symptoms and check your weight often.

  • @blue@BlueEyedDreamer Congrats!! :#
@LinZ528 I can imagine your disappointment when you heard that out of the 12, only 2 fertilized but
everyone is right, it only takes 1!  FX for the two to keep growing!!
@cmm012 Woohoo on the uterine lining!  How awesome you are getting to move forward and nearing your FET!

@msirni0 Good luck with trigger tonight!  Let us know how it goes :); if everything works as it is supposed to I should be triggering later this week and looking at that needle almost gave me a heart attack!  13 follies sounds like an awesome number.
@ale9687 Your acupuncture sounds so interesting!!  I have only been twice and he just does the needles in the feet, legs, arms and ears so far.  What is cupping?  And dancing needles, that sounds pretty cool!
@wifeinraleigh28 So sorry about the trial, that must be incredibly frustrating.  Congrats on starting your IVF process, though!  It's awesome that you are moving forward.
@annebenton22 Congrats on ER!  16 is a great number.  I hope the bloating goes away quickly for you!
@freudianmamma my ER is tentatively scheduled for Saturday if all goes well, so we should be right around the same time as each other!  I think what others have said is correct, quality over quantity!

Afm, today is day 7 of stims and I go in for an ultrasound tomorrow morning.  So far everything has been going pretty smoothly.  I've got some pretty sweet bruises going on, one from a missed blood draw, another from an acupuncture needle, and a couple on my stomach from the shots.  I'm feeling a little like a human pin cushion :)  But I realized this morning I'm past the halfway point (hopefully) and it has flown by.  I was in a wedding this weekend for one of my best friends and that definitely helped provide some distractions.  FX for ER on Saturday!
