@Kurrant, were you prescribed the dissolving Prevacid pill? Both @Jparke2 and I are administering that right now. If it is the solutabs, dissolve the tablet in a little water and spoon feed it to your LO. The medicine can be compounded into a liquid, but it looses its effectiveness quicker which is why the solutabs are prescribed more often. The little balls will not completely dissolve so be careful if you attempt to administer with a syringe as the balls tend to get stuck in the tip.
At this point I'm just going to order a lot of coconut oil because I've seen it suggested so often here. Also going to try that Mustela stuff. Thanks, y'all!!
When can I start putting bibs on LO? His projectile vomiting is really getting to be a hassle and wearing baby vomit after feeding isn't so cute. Is it ok that milk chunks come up an hour or two after feedings?

I would think you could start wearing bibs whenever. Just keep an eye on LO when wearing and take off when putting down to sleep.
If you LO is like mine with spitting up (im convinced I have a happy spitter), a bib may not help much. It would run off the bib before getting absorbed. I use cloth diapers as burp rags and almost always have one between me and her. They absorb a lot more and wash very well. I talked to my ped about the massive amount of spit up I deal with but as long as she is gaining weight and isn't bothered by it she will be ok and just needs to grow out of it. I get the fully range of spit up from watery milk to full on chunks

I also use a cloth diapers as burp rags but they really don't help with the projectile vomit still runs all over my chest. He especially likes to do it right as he gets off the boob before I get a chance to burp. I figured a bib might help catch something as soon as he's about to do it to minimize damage
I use cloth diapers as burp cloths and I use bibs in Lucine when BFing her. She tends to dribble milk quite a bit. I never heard anything about not using bibs.
Question : are any other LOs drooling a lot? I thought they didn't start drooling a lot till teething started but this little girl drools all the time.
We use cloth diapers as burp rags also and LO is pretty much always in a bib if he's not sleeping. We use the soft one's from Green Sprouts, they're fairly large and protect his clothing pretty well. I think we have 30 bibs and LO goes through multiple a day due to his reflux. Between cloth diaper burp rags and bibs, we're always running laundry.
Anyone else's LO seem to have nightmares? Last night DD kept making this super weird cry/scream we've never heard before. Everytime I checked on her though she was still fast asleep.

I asked the exact same question a few weeks ago! The ladies here told me it's just the baby going through the light phase of their sleep. It's normal
It gets better @mslan! And then they become toddlers and you're crazy for different reasons.
Lololol. @mslan For example, today my 2 year old told me, "You know mama, a squirrel is gonna come to our house and eat your eyes out!" And when I told him that didn't sound very kind he said, "Oh it's not real, it's just a figure of speech". Someday your child will make you laugh hysterically and also wonder if they need to see some sort of psychiatrist all in the same sentence
DD is 18 days old today and for the last week or so I've been trying to do a bottle or two a day of Similac "for fussiness and gas" formula to supplement with my breast milk because it seemed like she was always upset after eating. I think it actually made everything worse! I'm going to try switching to Gerber Gentle, she just had her first bottle, so we'll see... I'm just loosing my mind with these all day crying fests after eating. No matter what she's eating, whether it be BM or F. Could it be reflux or colic? She spits up a good bit through the day without crying but has seemed maybe a little constipated since starting the Similac. I just hate her being uncomfortable or in pain and not being able to really help her.

So much this! Seriously, where do toddlers come up with this stuff?!
@1mae2016 Are you supplementing because you need to supplement or because she's gassy? I wouldn't switch between formula and BM unless you absolutely need to supplement. The change will probably upset her stomach even more. You should talk to her pediatrician about other options. If it's reflux she could take medicine, if it's just gas your pedi might suggest gripe water or gas drops.
My girls are almost 3 months old, and one still has what seems like baby acne. Is this normal? Her skin is really flaky and red. It seems like it has been there forever! I thought baby acne would've cleared up by now.
@JessicaB0627 I'm supplementing because I have issues pumping and will have to put her on formula when I finish my externship/go to work but I want her to get breast milk when she can. I give her Mylicon drops pretty much after every feeding and they help a little but my poor baby just seems to have so much discomfort all the time. I'm waiting on the Pedis phone lines to come back on from lunch and then I'm calling
@1mae2016 Ah, sorry I misunderstood! We used the simethicone gas drops with DD1 and they worked miracles. Once she was FF we ended up using similac sensitive and that seemed to help too. I hope you can find something that works!

Lurking from April because I was almost a May momma!
edit: I wrote a whole post but it deleted. Wtf.
Anyway, Similac Advance with Dr Browns bottles, with preemie nipples, worked the best for us. No gassiness or fussiness anymore.
We tried Gerber Gentlease, Enfamil, Kirkland, and Similac for Gas, and these made her gassy and spit up A LOT!
Also, if your formula has iron in it, it might make your baby constipated, but ask your pediatrician.
Anyone else dealing with/have dealt with a dairy and soy protein intolerance with your LO? I just hit the grocery store and cut all dairy and soy protein out of my diet yesterday and it's SUCH a huge change. I've got dairy free before by choice and I avoid obvious soy products (milk, beans) due to my Hashimoto's thyroiditis, but the ped said EVERYTHING soy, soy lechitin, soybean oil, soy isolate. That stuff is in absolutely everything. I'm needing some encouragement because I'm totally willing to do all this for DD, but it's really tough going from Greek yogurt every morning and eating an Asian chopped salad every day for lunch to not being able to have 90% of what I ate just two days ago. On the bright side, I see lots of weight loss in my immediate future!
@ncm0328 I'm currently on a dairy/soy/gluten/practically everything free diet. It sucks! I eat a lot of sweet potatoes and turkey. I've lost weight, so there's that, but I sure hope it doesn't turn out my LO had an allergy because I dont know if I could keep this up!
@Jparke2 you go girl. There's no way I could add gluten to the no no list. I even had to go get new prenatal vitamins because it dawned on me to check mine and low and behold even those have gobs of soy protein! Our ped said we can reintroduce slowly at 9 months to see if it's an intolerance or a full blown allergy. Fingers crossed for you and I both that it's just an intolerance due to immature digestive systems!
Violet is such a good sleeper when I'm holding her. She will sleeping for hours with noise and lights and it doesn't bother her. The second I put her down, she wakes up. She loves sleeping on her stomach. I put her in the crib, on her stomach a few hours ago and she is sleeping great. I only put her on her stomach while I can watch her. Does anyone put their LO on stomach at night? I know it's typically frowned upon but I'm curious if anyone has success with this?

*lurking from June b/c I'm a May mom and your newborn thread is the best!*
I also tried this Similac for gas and fussiness and I agree it made it worse. She was actually more constipated than anything in the stomach area so once that passed she seems more comfortable. Also, I think that formula actually prevented her from burping to find some gas relief in her stomach. I'm sticking with the Similac advance in the blue bottle or the Similac for supplementing while breast feeding in the green bottle.

Oh my god, I didn't even think to check my prenatals! I just looked and luckily they fit all my dietary restrictions, whew!
Lol thanks guys! I was also so sleep deprived that I put this in the wrong thread. Nate slept most of the day, waking pretty much only for feedings and now he's super fussy because he's been awake since about 4 pm. He's 5 weeks. Hoping to be out of the dark by 6.
@ncm0328 Hugs! I haven't had to do that, but I watched my BFF go through that. It was so hard but she successfully BF for over a year! She ate a lot of meat, fruits and vegetables. She ate mostly salads with oil and vinegar at restaurants since most of the meat is even cooked with butter or vegetable oil. If you have a five guys near you they cook their fries in peanut oil so those are ok to eat! Good luck! You can do it!
@Jparke2 yay for your prenatal vitamins! At least there's one thing you don't have to change.
@JessicaB0627 I'm obsessed with five guys, thanks for the memo on the peanut oil being allowed, you just made my entire day! I read somewhere that their buns have dairy but I'm going to be all over their fries and can order my burger in a lettuce wrap. Thank God they don't deliver.
Anyone else have a LO with an umbilical hernia?? What's your doc said about it??
Pretty sure our LO has an umbilical hernia, but we go to the Dr the 24th for her one month and I'll ask about it then. It doesn't seem to cause LO any pain or discomfort and from what I've read it should heal on it's own after a year or two.
@ayeshaohara our doctor said he'll be concerned if she has it when she's five. Everything I've read supports that it will most likely resolve on its own.
@aehogan90 - all three of my kids have been tummy or side sleepers and wouldn't sleep very long or deeply on their backs no matter what we tried. Most of the time, we put LO down on her side but occasionally she does end up on her belly so she doesn't wake right back up. I just make sure all the sheets are tight and her head is turned to provide a clear airway when we do put her on her belly. I know some poeple may think this makes me a "bad mom" but my babies need their sleep to grow and they just don't sleep when on this backs, swaddled or not.
@ayeshaohara - DD1 has an umbilical hernia and I did as well. Mine ended up getting large enough I needed surgery to correct when I was around a year old. DD1's hernia was just monitored and healed on its one eventually (it took over a year). DD1's never stuck out more than and inch and my mom described mine as being as big as a babies penis for size comparisons
