Re: Announcement Thread?

  • These are so nice! I started to openly share it with the people that I see everyday. My close family and friends have known for a few weeks now. Not sure if we will Facebook announce anytime soon.

  • Slartybartfast - Thank you!
  • We have a friend at work that's really good at photoshop so we're doing the fantastic 4 (my husband loves superheroes/comic books) with me as the invisible woman, him as mr. fantastic and our daughter as the human torch. Then there's a question mark over my stomach area and it says newest member coming December 2016
  • These are great! And @LinziLoo09 I laughed out loud at your announcement.. DH and his bro are watching Bob Ross (I know, right?) so its very quiet in here and they both looked at me like I was a crazy person. Love it though!
  • Haha good @SmashJam!

  • My DH and I are in a disagreement on went to make it "Facebook Official." He would like to do it sooner rather than later. I'm due Dec 31st so I'm about 11 weeks along. I would like to wait until 14 weeks. When did you all make it official on social media?
  • @kvict238 - we'll probably do it sometime when pics of me are in danger of showing up on fbook where there's no chance of hiding it. I don't mean that there's no bump, but when it's that the bump is no longer questionable at all. That wasn't til around like 27 weeks last time but I'm showing sooner and it's summer this time so I'm not exactly sure when it'll be. I don't care about that awkward phase when people just assume I'm getting fat. But that's just my personal preference!

  • @kvict238 We made it social media official at 12-13 weeks because that's when we told my family, and they can't keep a secret. :)

That being said, what's right for one person won't be right for you. If you really want to wait, I think your DH needs to respect that. Tell him that you're glad he's so excited, but you'd like to keep the news to yourselves a little while longer.

We haven't yet, and I'll be 13 weeks on Monday. I would like to tell my employer before we go Facebook official. Also, I really don't know if we'll do a FB announcement.

  • @kvict238 - I announced on fb as soon as we had told immediate family and friends that we wanted to tell in person (or text, video chat, etc).  For us that was 6 weeks which is also the point that we had our first ultrasound.  I know that is early but I can't keep a secret to save my life!
  • @kvict238 - we just did this week at 13.5wks after we got the test results back. We were in no hurry and I could have waited longer

We announced Friday at 12w2d after I had a good appointment that morning. My MIL was chomping at the bit to tell people about my Dad had been really good about keeping his mouth shut but was getting more and more excited so I wanted to share before they did.

    **TW Loss Mentioned***
MIL spilled the beans last time almost immediately after we told them. And it got back to me. I was really hurt because I felt like something was wrong so I didn't want anyone to know until we knew if it was a viable pregnancy or not. I had a loss 2 weeks later.  So we told her this time to keep her mouth shut until we said otherwise.

@cjt121413 - I do my best to be sensitive, but know that these announcements can hurt those dealing with loss/IF.  Any way to do it tactfully, in your opinion?

  • I'm thirteen weeks tomorrow but my first doctor appointment isn't till next week. I'm waiting until after that to post any announcements on Facebook. My close family and friends know and I have told my boss but I can't wait to shout it from the roof tops!
  • @cjt121413 - I'm sure things like saying it was a surprise or they barely tried make it worse.  You'll make the right decision for you, but I've seen some really tactful ones about being pregnant after a loss. It was super touching and I'm always a believer that talking/acknowledging it reduces the stigma of loss, as terrible as it is - too many people suffer in silence.

True. I've seen some very touching ones from people who have suffered IF or had a loss. Those gave me hope.

I don't know that there is anything people could have done that would make FB announcements sting less. But, at the same time, people have a right to their joy. That's why I may still do an announcement. Even when I was really suffering, people's FB announcements didn't make me mad, just sad for my loss. I was still happy for them on some level. And I wouldn't have wanted people to have to filter their happiness on my behalf.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I definitely support people doing Facebook announcements.
I made my struggles with PCOS and infertility known to my friends and family on Facebook. And yes, I have friends who have lost babies, through miscarriage, born too early and freak incidents. We announced very early on, when I was about 9 weeks or so. There has been nothing but an outpouring of love and congratulations from friends and family. My best friend who suffered a miscarriage last year has already designated herself Auntie and plans on competing with my SIL for Favorite Aunt status. My friend who lost her son in utero at 20 weeks had her rainbow in January, and we're already making plans to have our kids meet up next time she is in town. Friends I had no idea were struggling with infertility have messaged me telling me I am giving them hope they will have their own miracle babies. When we announced we didn't come right out and say We're having a baby! We used our dog and never once mentioned baby or pregnancy. Just the dog getting a human sidekick. It's gone over well with everyone.

@cjt121413 We suffered from severe infertility as well, so I second what the ladies above have said. A little common sense goes a long way!

The only announcement that REALLY got me was one that included  "it only took 3 months of trying!" I think that  was very unclassy.... TMI people!! Oh it also included her pee stick... EW.
