Re: Randoms 5/30-6/5

  • @kristynmac thanks for sharing! I'm more impressed by their use of Gifs. Half the time I can't get mine to work and it's been like 6 months.

  • @kristynmac that was really intense. And same, @tmk0325 those gifs are no joke I was dying at how snarky one can make a gif.

That thread on mosquito bites was ridiculous. The UO thread in July 16 gets a little heated towards the end when they start discussing the Cincinnati zoo incident. One poster is trying to argue that parents can control 100% of what kids do. Her posts made my head hurt with all the intelligent words she used.

After reading that I completely retract my statement on our UO board about children and tantrums, even when they get older they have minds of their own.
I can't hate on parents and what their children do in a matter of seconds. We were all standing by the pool putting sunscreen on this past weekend and DH sprayed DD down and turns to put the sunscreen down and pick up DDs life vest to put on her. And DD tried jumping on a floating lounger, missed and was in the water. Literally happened in maybe 4 seconds. We were both there and both alert. Still completely baffled and thanking God we were right there.
  • @Lynnlove28 You can control your kids 100%, but the methods of drugging and tying them down is illegal.
I also hear kenneling them is frowned upon.
    I'm dying lol
  • I hate that people think children need to be "controlled", when that's exactly why they act out. They have thoughts, emotions, desires, and when they feel like they don't have any control over what happens to them, they get frustrated exactly like every other human being. As hard as it can be, just letting your toddler pick what they wear in the morning (even if you have to barter to make it weather appropriate) can really help them, and teaches independence, so they need less of being told what to do in the first place. Of course sometimes the things they want are impossible or unreasonable, but that's not always the case. When I worked in a preschool/day care for a long time in my late teens, I realized how much better kids respond to being treated like their opinions matter.

Heads up. UO thread over in July. There seems to be a banning. Honestly though...I am not sure why. I read the thread before the TOU violations and nothing was offensive in my opinion.

That wasn't as exciting as I hoped it would be
  • Damn it! I really wish they would stop banning all the funny people! Moderators be ruinin' all my lurk fun  :(

  • Definitely not as interesting as the Zika thread, but still baffling. I'm surprised the thread is still open.

  • Eeeek! People be bustin' out their titles left and right in education and operations fields to support their different perspectives. To each their own! Just sad my Wat picture source user seemed to have gotten banned. Aye aye aye...
  • Did anyone actually see the gif that caused the ban?
  • One of my June 14 mom friends got in on the ban last time. It's pretty ridiculous now. Tou seems fairly subjective these days as to what admins thing is ban worthy/worthy of a warning.
  • Sigh. Another friend joined an MLM scheme... excuse me, I mean "started her own business." For the last week she's been bombarding my fb news feed with all things Jamberry. I love watching her son grow up in the family pictures she posts, but I might have to unfollow if this continues. Hopefully she'll chill out a bit. It always gets so awkward when a friend joins one of these things. I haven't even seen her in person yet, but that's always super awkward when you have to explain that you're not interested in purchasing the product, let alone attending/hosting a party or becoming a "consultant."

I've unfriended family members on Facebook for that reason alone. When it turns it to everything you do is because "it works" allows it - I just can't. It turned into every picture of my niece and nephews was a tribute to all the money "It Works" has brought to her life. And, even better she's now separated from my BIL and draining his accounts each pay day. That shit annoys me.
  • @jacmkelley "It Works" is by far the worst offender, because they seem to really encourage using personal Facebook pages to get the word out. I unfollowed my step-sister-in-law because she was constantly posting these things that were basically ads. They reminded me of the diet pill ads you see in the back of magazines. I miss seeing pics of her two adorable sons, but I don't miss constant before-and-afters of people I don't know standing in their bikinis. That kind of before-and-after, "thinspiration" content is not something I want in my life in any way. I do not need to see some stranger's ass "go from flabby to fab in two weeks thanks to that crazy wrap thing!!" Nope, nope, nope.

@Bookhousegirl we are moving soon too and DH is packing while I lay on the couch and watch grey's anatomy. Sorry not sorry.

In my defense, I did work a 24 hour shift at the hospital yesterday.
  • @Bookhousegirl I hate that guilty/sad feeling that comes from having DD stay with someone. I love the time for just DH and I and I never ask if someone can take her unless it's for a doctors appointment. Motherhood is so hard.

@jacmkelley I love it too! I've become obsessed with buying their furniture and staining/painting/adding to it. I bought their really cheap unstained dressers and am changing them to go with the boys nautical themed room (they'll be sharing it eventually). I'm super excited about it.

@Jcr727 ugh I want to do that so badly, but I'm such a control freak about packing. DH would just throw things in boxes, but I like to throw things away and organize everything while I pack. I may have to give it up a little this time though, because I just don't have the energy to be thorough! And, you absolutely should be resting, a 24 hr shift sounds awful and exhausting!!

I didn't even know they have that lol, totally right up my alley! I just love going it always gives me inspiration!
  • @lotsofsunshine My thoughts exactly!! Mine even asked me 30 minutes ago what I would be COOKING for lunch. I told him he could microwave some beefaroni and walked away.
  • @alyssajrob22 , lol. Good for you! That's my biggest pet peeve. That, and when he actually is going to make lunch and he asks if a certain dish is clean. Well, maybe you should check the dish washer...
I know that have absolutely no idea how we feel, but my patience is getting thin.

I knew I jinxed it the moment I said how I loved the way our board looks.

Why do we get a series of drive by posters on the same day? It's like they have their own secret board and they all planned to post on this one at the same time. USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION. It's not hard.
Lol. It's like a fun game now.

  • @AliKay20 I used to think the July board was overly uptight about their board organization... And then all the drive-bys and randos started on ours. Totally get how annoying it is now!
  • Does anyone use picture people? Do you know how long the online access link takes to receive?
I did my maternity photos there today, and I want to send it to my family, but it hasn't arrived yet, boo. I hope they got my email address right...

  • Dh took the kids "dumpster diving" today and came home with ao much stuff! Seriously??? They are all like kids in a candy store.
  • @jamiesc58 I'm interested, what is "dumpster diving"?

This insomnia is about to drive me crazy. Last night I went to bed around 10, woke up around 1 and laid in bed tossing and turning until 5:30 and then was up at 8:30. All I want is a good nights sleep!
  • @Lynnlove28 we have a dump close by our house. They had a free community dump day recently. So my dh and kids go over there and dig through others peoples junk. They came home with dvd players, cell phones, radios, speakers, tvs, and tons more electronics that work. Also, some yard furniture in amazing condition and folding chairs. I don't remember what else but our garage WAS clean until they came home. We use some, we donate some, we save some for a rainy day, and it is like Christmas for dh and kids lol.
  • @jamiesc58, I think that's a great experience for your kids to have!
