Anyone care to share their cast offs for names? Whether you can't use it because you're having a different sex, or because your spouse hates it, I wanna hear em!
Wife to A; Mama to C (2009), N (2011), H (2014) & baby F due 09/16/16
My husband and I had a very hard time with picking names during pregnancy #1 so we just decided to revert back to our list this time around and work from that since we knew we were both happy with most of the names on there already. Well were team green and I HATE sharing names because I don't care for others opinions - well DH got a little drunk the other night and spilled a girl name we really like, Bristol - it was our #2 on the list - and his sister WENT OFF about how we better not name our kid Bristol and she hated it, it's a horrible name yada yada yada .... sooo I came home and had a melt down about it (thanks hormones) and crossed it off the list.
I loved a bunch that DH didn't and never will or we didn't pick them because it didn't work with our last name. I can't remember them all but there's Isla, Abigail, Stella, Lennon, Logan, Ian...
Our potential girl name (when we had boys) was originally Aubrey but we can't use it now because of family association (it's actually my fathers middle name and an old English name passed down many generations) since my parents have gotten divorced. If this little one had been a boy it would have been Ezra.
I love Evelyn goo but I have a great aunt Evelyn that's a nightmare so we will never use it.
For a boy, I love Leo after my great grandpa but I also have a cousin named Leo that would definitely brag that he was named after him. Plus, we are done with having kids after this one so we will never have a boy.
I absolutely love Liam for a boy but it's super popular now and DH has always hated it. I also really liked Rian for a girl but DH vetoed that one as well. He always said he wanted to name our girl Cali but then he went to Brynlee and stuck with it.
Our last name is similar to Meryl (spelled differently) do you think Claire Meryl sounds too much like caramel? If you're the person that pronounced caramel like cara-mel.
@Themaritimemama so maybe if we just never, ever speak of it again, it would work? Haha I love Claire. It's the only name so far that I love and our freaking last name.
Im in love w Aspen. Thats what we were gonna use if we were having a boy. I half heartedly considered using it for our girl because i love it so much, but it feels much more like a boys name to me. Plus weve told everyone her name. And its already stuck lol
For boys I LOVE the name Walter but literally not one other person has told me they liked it. and girls I love Gwendolyn and Èlodie but fiancé said no way
If this baby was a girl her name would have been Audrey Eleanor Marie
@MrsVoorhees I seriously don't think it sounds like caramel at all? even when I try to say it really fast. And I do pronounce cara-Mel. I would go for it !
I love the name Poppy for a girl. Yes, really lol but I would never use it. Our boy named would have been Max Austin and probably will be if we ever have one (highly doubt we will go for a fourth) we got engaged in Austin but I don't love it as a first name.
I've always been a huge fan of the name Evelyn but Chris isn't a fan and instead tried to talk me into naming this girl Evan. I tried talking him into Everly. Still don't have a definite name for this little girl. I'm thinking the name will be picked in the delivery room
@Megan324 my cousin just named their son Walter. I am a fan of names that never go out of style. I also have three friends who named their boy Henry
If this was another boy, I really like Dominick, Isaac and Wyatt. DH didn't like any of those... We are currently deciding on a girl's name. There are so many to choose from!!
We like names that end in "lyn". Do you think it will sound like a run-on bc our surname starts with an "M"? For example: Evelyn Miller.
For boys I LOVE the name Walter but literally not one other person has told me they liked it. and girls I love Gwendolyn and Èlodie but fiancé said no way
If this baby was a girl her name would have been Audrey Eleanor Marie
Walter is our boy name! Wally will be his nickname as long as he wants it

My dad is Walter goes by Walt. I think it's a good name
Our short list for girls was: Tessa, Emilia, Alice, and Rosalie
Boy names that I loved but DH vetoed: Orson, Gabriel, Sebastian, Arlo

@Ampip2270 no no no to your SIL vetoing your name. Put it back on your list and tell her to shove it.
This! What a jerk move on her part!

If this baby boy was a girl, we were leaning towards Stella, though most of our "won't use" names are ones that start with an S because our last name does as well and is basically pronounced "seagull". S names end up sounding like children's book characters. For example, names that sounded silly to me: Sadie Seagull, Sydney Seagull. See what I mean?
I'm not a fan of misspelling names, but I have a guilty pleasure name that is my cousin's wife's name. Evynn. I know it's a masculine name and it's spelled wrong but I just love it! Obviously I wouldn't use it, I just think it's so pretty!
I really like Clifton and am having a hard time letting it go. It is also the name of a neighborhood we used to live in and I'm pretty sure I'd get a lot of crap about it. We don't live in that city anymore but still. H finds the name ok. Girls: Brynn, Maeve, Elizabeth, Genevieve, Marie, June, Roberta, and Olivia.
Re: Love it, but can't use it?
For a girl I love Aspen, Lucy, Claire, Anniston, and Morgan.
For a boy, I love Leo after my great grandpa but I also have a cousin named Leo that would definitely brag that he was named after him. Plus, we are done with having kids after this one so we will never have a boy.
Since we're not having a girl, we didn't get to use Lucille, Lila, Greer, or Cora. Oh well. Maybe in my next life!
For boys, since we can't use them, some of my faves are Grayson, Dalton, Sawyer, Jackson.
My list right now for girls is comically long, I just love so many names! I think we have it narrowed down to 2 though, maybe 3. Getting there!
Boys names that are technically still on the shortlist but likely will get vetoed include Carter, Connor, Drew, Parker, Logan, and Christopher.

But get what you're saying and it bothers me too. I know a Frank Carter and it always sounds like "FrankArter"
For girls I like Isla but hubby thinks it's too weird.
