My first choice for a girl was Mara (Mar-uh), but DH gave it a hard veto
I've always loved the name Elizabeth and would have used it for a girl's middle name, but it's my MIL's first name and she's the devil so I can't use it in good conscience
I also love the name Reece for a girl's name, but a portion of our last name rhymes with it, so it came off of the table
Other boy's names that we loved, but didn't choose were Samuel and William
I'm torn right now! My husband and I both like Madison Grace (it's a miracle we found one we both like!) and would probably call her Maddy. However-my SIL, who we see maybe twice a year, has a dog named Maddy....my husband says he doesn't care that our babe will be called the same thing as a dog in the family, but I can't decide if I'm ok with it or not!
I think our top two girls names will be off the table soon: Emma and Ava. DH keeps saying how popular they seem right now and we both really don't want this babe to be in school with a million other Emma/Ava's
@estephenson13 Ava is definitely a popular one right now. It's a beautiful name, but if you're looking for something that a number of other kids won't have then I agree with your DH. Not sure about Emma. I think that name is super classic!
As for me and DH here were some no go's:
Boys:
Cassius (We're still thinking of using this one if we have another boy, though).
Gabriel (I LOVE this name, but DH has a cousin with this name so he very strongly nixed it)
Sherlock (I sh*t you not, I would love to name my child this but DH thinks it's too dorky. Ok ok fine. I agree. It's totally dorky. We compromised and our son's middle name is Holmes. Win)
Girls:
Esmeralda (Love this one, especially for the nickname Esme, but DH thinks it would make her sound like a "Spaniard". What does that even MEAN?! He's Puerto Rican/Peruvian AND has SPANISH heritage somewhere further back. I married a weirdo.)
Hazel (Still possibly in the running for a girl next time but my mom hates it so much for some reason)
Eleanor (In the running for a girl, but we're having a boy!)

Your child will long outlive the dog. If you both like the name, use it. I don't think it's a name typically associated with dogs. You're not naming your child Rex or Fido.
Love Penelope for a girl but our last name starts with P and the initials P.P were too much for DH so he vetoed. Also love Alice and Claire which DH vetoed.
Elliot was our second boy name if this one had been a boy.
I vetoed Clarissa and Larissa. Anything ending in "issa" for some reason sounds like a mean girl to me
I absolutely love the name Julia, but my husband vetoed it a long time ago! For a boy I've always loved the name Declan, but again it was vetoed very early on. Others on my list that I liked, but he hated were Adriana and William. Womp Womp!
