Harper has an uncanny ability to know just the moment I'm sitting down to eat. That's when she decides to wake up from her 5 hour naps and start screaming. In the 18 days since she graced us with her presence I've yet to eat a full meal. Best weight loss plan ever!
Yes ! Gone are the days of sleeping a full night and eating a full meal !

Me and my SO have to take turns eating dinner while one of us holds our son. He always, always knows when dinner is about to be plated. Every, damn night.
I think every baby has a 6th sense about this!  Both of my kids have for sure.

Okay, Spin Class Ladies: I was talking about this with MH yesterday since I used to spin several days a week and I was wondering, won't the bike be really painful to get back on with that much trauma to our nether regions? Doing spin in general after having taken a break for a while makes me sore down there.

That's one thing that's not even on my radar bc I have stitches! I would wait for OB clearance for bike related fitness just because, well you remember :p

I can't wait to get back to spin. I'm a c/s mama, and my concern is my core. Good spinning posture means you have to engage your ab muscles. I'm not sure if I should just start when I'm cleared to exercise, or work on building ab strength first...

Im seeing my dr on Thursday  (3 weeks pp) and I'm hoping he'll say I can spin. If it hurts just stay up in 2 or 3 the whole time ;);)

    Update: 3 weeks post-c-section:
I didn't lose any more weight this week, but I was more active, so I'm hoping that my muscle mass is slowly improving!  So that makes 15 more lbs to lose.  I feel better than I look in the mirror!  I went on my first long walk today!  I feel good - not much incision pain, but my pelvis is still sore, specifically my pubic symphysis.  Anybody else?
A highlight of my week was healthy dinners, and the lowlight was the major sweet-tooth that is still around.  For dinners, we had a "shepards pie" that was made by my mom and defrosted very well!  I made a chicken and veggie stir-fry: yum!
This week, my goals are to walk at least 4 days and decrease my sweets consumption.  This should be do-able because there are fewer sweets in the house!  The plans for dinners are for me to make a batch of turkey-veggie-bean chili and a freezer meal from my neighbor.  We have also been really into Greek salads. So good on a hot day!
eta: one more goal: maximize sleep!

    How are you all feeling?

  • @JennyS86 yes! I was actually going to ask about pubic pain here. I'm still getting it too; I think it feels like nerve pain a lot of the time. I had wondered if it was because I ended up fully dilated/with DS2's hips stuck in my hips, but maybe it's more pregnancy/relaxin related. I think the hormone is still pretty high until around 6 weeks post partum.

Thanks @kbrands7 !  The relaxin idea makes a lot sense.  My LO wasn't breech and I didn't labor - our c-sections are the only thing in common :)

  • Question for STM+ who have done Weight Watchers to lose baby weight. I know there's the regular plan & then there's the nursing mom option...I am not breastfeeding but Im pumping about 10oz per day. Do those 10 oz make me a nursing mom for WW? I don't want to do anything to hurt my already pathetic supply by not eating enough calories but I dont want to use extra points for "nursing" when I'm only pumping 1/3 of what he's eating. Thoughts?
  • @Aquinna82 I don't know anything about the nursing mom option. I'm starting to seriously count calories today on myfitpal - I guess I'm going to guess and add 500 and see how the first week goes. It's hard bc I don't want to compromise my supply either. I am going to see how the rest of my maternity leave goes, and then I might think about shelling out the money for weight watchers.

  • As for exercise, I have been doing pelvic tilts to try to start some lower back strength. I'm 2 weeks pp, does anyone think it's too early to start some real short planks?

This is what I did last time and will likely start this week too. I tracked food on my fitness pal and just added in 500 extra calories to accommodate breastfeeding. Often, at first, I was actually under my calories for the day by dinner time last time and needed to eat more food (unless I had some yummy fat-full meals during the day). Remember too, if LO is growth spurting, you may need even more calories during that brief period-- about 30 calories per oz of milk produced is the general formula, so if he/she is adding one or two full feeds, that's likely about 120-240 extra temporary calories. Alternately, you could just give yourself cheat days during spurts and just eat as much as you feel you need based on hunger and resume counting once the feeding pattern is regular again.
  • 1. How much weight did you gain in the pregnancy?
    32 pounds

    2. If you've weighed post baby, how much of that do you still have left to lose?

25 pounds as of 10 days pp - It's crazy to only be 7 pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight but my belly still looks like I've got so much to lose!?!?

    3. What are some healthy snack/s or meal/s you think will help you reach your goals?

Right now I'm not doing much to watch what I'm eating. Life with a newborn is so crazy I just eat whatever my mom and husband want to help cook !!! But as soon as I feel a little more settled I want to try and fill up with oatmeal in the AM, eat fresh fruits and veggies because I love them both!! And hopefully cut down on the carbs in the evenings. I also need to figure out healthy AND FILLING snacks because the hunger definitely attacks when I'm pumping!!

    4. How do you plan to ease back into activity after you are healed enough to do so?

I'm trying to get out and walk as much as I can, but not too fast or far yet as I need to take it easy to recover from this csection! But I'd like to walk more and more every week!!

    5. What exercise did you do before pregnancy? During pregnancy?

Before pregnancy I did very intense workouts as Title Boxing. I stopped working out completely when the morning sickness hit at about 4-5 weeks, then finally the sickness went away but I had a partial placenta previa that stuck around till about halfway through the pregnancy. Finally I could work out again but because I had taken such a long break I couldn't do much, which turned into nothing at all for the most part !!

    6. Any questions, comments, rants or raves?

Anyone else close to your pre-pregnancy weight but look completely different? I feel like I'm going to hit my weight and have so many more pounds to go before I feel like my old self. I have set the expectation that my body is going to look different, but not THIS different!!??

I was told 6-8 weeks for the belly to shrink back from it's expanded state. But, yes, I lost 25-28 pounds immediately and I'm 7-10 pounds away but feel very squishy all over--not just my belly. As soon as I'm cleared I'm doing weights, including as many squats and lunges as I can handle!!

I gained 51 lbs (was overweight before getting pregnant) but the dr said I was so puffed up from water she bet I was retaining close to 20lbs in straight water weight from my pre-eclampsia (which is believable, even my feet were jiggling from retaining water). I'm 4 weeks pp and 40 lbs down...I was 35lbs lighter just leaving the hospital. So for me, it was the fact that I retained so much water weight...I'm pumping breastmilk and feeding that to DD so that's helping with the rest of the baby weight.
  • KellyMom has a lot to say about dieting while BFing. I used that as my guide as far as calorie counting to make sure I'm not eating too little. Also if I still feel hungry, I won't deny myself. I feel like it's important to listen to your body. I don't know what days I'm making more or less milk to I'm not going to deprive myself, just try to make healthy choices.

  • 1. How much weight did you gain in the pregnancy? 38lbs

    2. If you've weighed post baby, how much of that do you still have left to lose? 23lbs but I was underweight when I got PG so I would be fine with 10-15lbs

    3. What are some healthy snack/s or meal/s you think will help you reach your goals? I dint have any real plans except try to eat healthy. I do make peanut butter balls that are a great little protein snack.

    4. How do you plan to ease back into activity after you are healed enough to do so? I am healed enough that I walk our neighborhood at least once a day. I plan to add in some crunches.

    5. What exercise did you do before pregnancy? During pregnancy? I didnt work out before or during pregnancy but because of my job I was walking a lot. I never took my pedometer but I know it was miles a day.

    6. Any questions, comments, rants or raves? DH wants to loose weight too so this is the perfect time to do this together. Any other SOs joining in on the weight loss? Any fun couple exercises?

@yogahh - a couple of pounds away from pre-pregnancy weight and EBF here. she. eats. non. stop. Some days I feel like I live in the nursing chair. DH calls it my "baby prison".

  • @ncm0328 OMG my feet jiggled too! I told a nurse about it and she told me she had never heard that before. I thought I was crazy.
  • MsIanMsIan member
I haven't weighed myself in a little bit but I'm down about 25 lbs, so 25 more to go. I'm pumping/ff'ing.
  • @JessicaB0627 thank God I'm not the only one. My mom laughed so hard when she got here the day before my induction...you could see the tops of my feet jiggling and the bottom of my belly was jiggly from water retention as well. My mom would flick it and it would jiggle and we would just crack up, it was the weirdest thing ever and the feet jiggling and belly jiggling appeared overnight.

Ditto here- my experience has been that BF helps with weight loss initially, but that my body clings to the last 5ish pounds of fat stores until I wean, so it's kind of a mixed bag in terms of weight loss.

While I'm happy with our choice to ff, I do miss the idea of burning those extra cals due to bf!

I lost 25 pounds quickly and now stuck. Walking daily, eating healthy... This sucks! I need to start running and doing high intensity cardio. Can't wait to be cleared to work out! Was hoping to have lost more by this point.

  •  Well the "good" news is I stepped on the scale and up less than a pound so I guess I haven't been eating as much as I thought since I expected to be up about 5 pounds ...  I still really need to work on my eating ...  I intentionally did not go out and buy more snacks because I don't need to be eating every time she's nursing which is always

Love that idea. We used to have one pre baby but I think it fell off the cliff as people got further and further along in their pregnancies. Want to start it?
