Re: S#it Just Got Real

  • My EDD is friday, I had my DD at 39w 5d which is what I'm at today. Shit just got real.

  • My brother's baby was due 3 weeks before me. She just came today. I'm now a proud aunt, but it also made the reality of becoming a mother soon hit me like ton of bricks.
  • We found out I'm 1cm dilated and 50% effaced at yesterday's appt. I'm 38wks1d and I know that isn't much progress but it's the first sign of what's to come for us so it's a big "shit just got real" moment.
  • Had my c-section booked this morning for June 14. I'm having a baby in 13 days. Holy shit!

That's my birthday!!!! Lol i can't imagine the anticipation of waiting when you know the exact time and day your baby will come!  It's killing me to not know when it will happen especially now that it's June and my due date is Saturday!!

Scared my SO enough to finally instal the car seat. Then one of my favorite doctors from my practice was on call so we chatted and he scheduled me for an induction on the 6th when I'll be 41 weeks and 1 day.
    Shit just got very real.

This is my second baby . Im at 38 weeks and at yesterdays appointment Dr told me I was 3cm dialated and effaced. however i dont remember the percentage all i know it was a lot . He told me that it was perfect and that everything is going to happen really fast. Sh%t just got real xD ....So im just waiting for baby everything else its already set.
  • Shit got real... then moved on to surreal! (Kinda long)

I went in for my 38 week appointment and after a quick discussion about what I had been thinking of as back pain from sciatica mixed with irregular braxhic the midwives decide to strap me up for a non-stress test... the results... actual contractions... they check me and I was barely a cm, 60 percent effaced and little mans head was at -3 (low)....

The previous week I had tested positive for GBS and I am scheduled for a c-sec in 11 days So they send me up to L&D to have the baby (or so We thought) where they strap me up and plug me in and begin monitoring the baby and I and giving me fluids while they run bloodwork and check my urine for any other complications.... everything came back great (not even a little dehydrated).

So after spending a few hours strapped up I begin to hear the nurses at the station discussing how "some women" fake contractions... the shift is changing and the new nurses begin to refer to what I had been told were contractions as cramps (to my face)...

WTF? I spent 9 hours in the hospital after what was supposed to be a routine 15 min appointment... Only to have the L&D nurses think I was somehow faking Labor... we are finally told I could go home but they need 30 continuous minutes of the baby on the monitor....

FML.... this kid does not sit still for anyone.  I was in tears when 2 hours later they finally let us go home. They still didnt have the 30 min strip they wanted.

So now Im afraid to actually call them if something comes up... Im hoping little man stays where he is until the 13th but who knows...

    So yeah, surreal...
  • @MReyArts I'm so sorry!! What a terrible experience. And no one likes going to L&D especially to be told it is a false alarm. But the least they could do is love on you, tell you that you are doing an awesome job for your baby, and give you kindness since you will be back there soon for delivery!! Please call the charge nurse of the unit and voice your concerns. Especially the fact that they were talking about patients in an open area where any one could overhear. Even being vague it is unprofessional and could violate HIPAA laws depending on what they are talking about.

You did everything exactly right and do not hesitate to go back up there if you think you or your baby need anything. I was at L&D yesterday and I'm a little bummed that nothing came out of it but I tried to find the reassurance that baby is still happy, my urine came back clean so no UTI or anything to worry about, and I considered it a practice run (like realizing we probably should pack a hospital bag).

    Hugs to you!!

That is so rude they should not be saying that if they dont really know what has happen.

Are you a FTM? I have notice that sometimes some nurses treat FTM like they are cluless,  dont know anything about contractions and maybe are faking it, they should not assume anything. I remember that for my first baby I came in to the hospital with the really bad contractions and a couple of nurses would just pass me by and would not ask anything of why I was there. Until one  came up to me and I explained for the million time that I was having really bad contractions and they asked me if I was a FTM -_- ....so then they decided to finally check me and I was already at 6cm dilated ....then they panic and started rushing eveything. I came in like at 4:30-5 pm and my baby girl was born at 7:15pm that same day so I was not faking anything.

Hope everything turns out great for you, good luck.
  • I actually have a 9 and a 10 year old! I mean, its been a while but definitely not a FTM :/   I just wish I had done what I wanted to do, which was yell out the door to them that It wasnt my Idea to be there and that it was my midwives that decided I needed to go!
  • Thank you!
  • @MReyArts I would have been tempted to stand up and walk out! It's not like you had nothing better to do with your day than hang out strapped to a monitor!  With my first they kept blowing me off too and telling me not to come back to the hospital after they sent me home.  When I did arrive in an ambulance the nurse was totally mocking me until she checked me and saw I was at 9, my water was broken and I was having a preemie.  I'm sure they get tired of people overreacting but I'm dying to know just exactly HOW you fake contractions on a monitor anyway???  And why would you?  I mean, sure, I could be at home in my underwear watching Netflix and hanging out with my son and eating and drinking and peeing whenever I want, but the hospital is sooo much more fun???  Ugh.
  • I was wondering that as well-known od you fake contractions? Unless they mean you self report and then when they strap you to the monitor they don't catch any?

The nurse at L&D last night specifically hung around and waited til I had a contraction and asked me to tell her when I was feeling one and said she wanted to "make sure I got credit for it". She said some times they have to move that second monitor to make sure they re catching every thing they can. Some times all it takes is someone willing to go an extra step to ensure your comfort. And that is usually so much easier to do as a professional than sit around the table and bitch to your colleagues.

I would call and complain. There is no reason for them to treat you like that.

  • Ok, well on my phone and tried to quote then reply and its just not working....

Im not entirely sure how I could possibly fake it as the machine was picking up every contraction I had... It was an exceptionally  bad experience and I am really worried about any repeat visits.

The GBS and having a RCS means there are certian things I HAVE to go in for immediately if they occur. If my water breaks or I am bleeding or showing signs of preeclampsia then I have to go... otherwise, Im just dealing with the pain as it comes because I just don't want to deal with the B.S. again...

I have not stopped having those irregular contractions.... they come at fairly even intervals for being "irregular."  Every 5-8 minutes at night and every 10-12 minutes when Im up and moving... I get a random hour or two without them but otherwise I am up to day 4 of having them.

I'm lucky enough that I am an optimal candidate for a VBAC so if I all of a sudden find myself in active labor, I can do it (I just dont want to! This will be my 3rd CSEC and I plan on having a tubal while they are in there... no need to mess with the girlie bits, they're in pristine condition!)

Thankyou for all of the support, btw... Its really helping to have a group to vent to that actually understands where I am coming from

They are dumb beotches. You are going to rock this delivery. I actually like being hooked up to the monitors and see myself having the contractions. Its like I feel as though the monitors are reinforcing that Im not faking it. (Still have no clue how someone WOULD fake it).

I hope you make it to your RCS and if you do end up VBAC I hope it is an awesome birth experience. So close!!  11 days-you've got this. (Just REALLY hope your contractions dont keep up like that for 11 more days....)

And hopefully whatever shift you get next time at L&D it will be a different crew and people way more supportive.

I think it can be "faked" because I was told during my non stress test that the monitor picks up "changes in muscle tone" hence why it sees contractions, because our abdomen gets tight.  Maybe people fake it by tightening their own muscles.  Idk why someone would fake it though, like, what's the gonna accomplish really?
  • I've seen the peaks on the NST when I move or cough or laugh. But they are way different then the actual contractions. I can't imagine someone slowly tensing up their abdominal muscles, holding it, and then slowly letting it go to mimic contractions. For what purpose?!?!

    Shit just got very real.

So shit got real because I had my baby! 3 weeks early and my water did break. No labor though and since he was breech I had a c section. Was feeling perfectly fine Wednesday night and then felt a little nauseous. Went to get ready for bed and went to the bathroom and it felt like I was peeing myself. My husband was on his way home from work and when he got home at 12:30 in the morning I told him I thought I should call. Called the after hours and the on call doctor called me back. I told her I wasn't sure if my water broke but it felt like I kept peeing myself. She said to come in to get checked. We started running around and backing bags. Totally should have done that earlier!!

Got to the hospital around 1:30 and it was confirmed that my water broke. Hung out for a little bit in triage and then in pre op.  Wasn't feeling any contractions so I was good. Signed the consent papers at 5 am and he was out a little after 6 am. Total surreal and I feel pretty good. He was 5 pounds and change so a little peanut but is doing well.
Oh my glob. I'm so glad to hear your LO has finally arrived and although a peanut is otherwise healthy. Tmi but my doctor said mine was just water discharge. I was hoping to go naturally but baby has today, tomorrow and Monday morning to make her arrival before we induce. Honestly I'm done with the severe back pain and just can't wait to meet her.
  • @chesterdoodle I'm so excited for you right now!!! I can't wait to hear your update and will be thinking about you today!
  • Didn't sleep well at all Saturday night and got up Sunday and realized that this baby had dropped overnight and I now have intense pressure in my pelvis.  Supposedly, second babies don't drop until you're in labor but here I am, at work and not in labor, so apparently this baby didn't read the directions.  I ran around all day yesterday doing stock up shopping and sent my husband to Costco.  I now have enough food, toiletries and paper products to survive a zombie apocalypse and I was exhausted last night because it was 95 yesterday and pushing the cart and loading and unloading all day from going to three different stores was a killer, but it's done and I feel much more content in that way only a crazy nesting lady can.
  • S#it just keeps getting more and more real... I'm 38+2 today and just had our growth scan, got to see peanuts face! The guess s/he weighs 8lbs1oz... Can't wait to see how big they actually are!

  • Having definitely real contractions! Not strong enough yet to go into L&D, but I'm trying to get the kids asleep in bed now and told dh to be ready in case they turn into the real thing. It feels like it did when my other two labored started. Sort of freaking out!
    Hope it's the real deal!

Wow, we had the same night last night. I was due on the 4th, after work last night went to wal mart and walked around the whole store, got home and had an hour and a half of strong contractions 3-4 minutes apart, and then they just petered out. Didn't stop completely, of course! Just had one or two really painful ones once an hour or so so that I got terrible sleep. Don't want to have him until Saturday, but I'm at the point now I really don't care about obligations and getting last minute stuff accomplished, I just want him out!
