June/July IVF or FET

Re: June/July IVF or FET

  • Speaking of acupuncture - i go once a week. I figure it can't hurt and it might help so I'm going to do it. Yesterday it hurt a little more than normal but i slept for 9 hours straight last night and that never happens, so maybe she hit some sleep buttons :) I have been looking into a number of alternative practices to increase fertility - v steams (yikes), special massages (you can do these at home), herbs, diet changes, etc. I will say I do have one rub when it comes to my Acu lady, she is hellbent on me taking these expensive herbs claiming that they will not effect my hormone levels, but everything i read says almost everything you put in (or do) to your body effects your levels so I'm not sure why she is so convinced. Plus, no offense to the Acu practice but it seems like traditional medicine is vetted and more controlled than alternative practices, so i'm doing what my doc tells me.

I see my doc for a scan tomorrow, then i will start testosterone. Good opportunity to grow out my stash :open_mouth:

Last night i had dreams about start all the shots again and when i woke up this morning my butt cheek was sore, like i got a phantom trigger shot...weird, i'm taking it as a good sign.
Me & DH - 41, DH has a cyst blocking his tubes, I'm just old.
    IVF #1 scheduled May 2016 - 375/525 follistim, 75 menopur - cancelled cycle Day 6
    IVF #2 scheduled July 2016 - new protocol, switcharoo...IUI June 2016 - BFN
IVF#3 scheduled August 2016 - estrogen & testosterone primed for 3 wks - ganirelix 7 days leading up to stim - 500 follistim, 75 menopur, 150 clomid , no follicle growth on day 6, stopped injectibles. Scanned day 9 just to check, some growth, 3 days 200 mg clomid, day 12 more growth, 100 follistim, 75 menopur, start ganirelix on day 13, ER = 0 eggs, ovulated to soon ( :( )
IVF#4 scheduled Sept 2016 - Microdose Flare protocol, cancelled stim day 6 converted to IUI (one dominant follicle)  :(  IUI cancelled ovulated too soon again. Taking a mental health break.
IVF#5 December 2016 - New protocol, same results. My adventure is over.

  • Went for my appointment today.  They said I'll be going in every day until ER which they are almost certain will be Wednesday.  My follicles are all between 12-16 and the left ovary is still hiding, but the ultrasound tech I had today is the one who will be in my ER and showed me how they can push down on my belly to access it.  It hurt like you know what, but made me feel better that all those eggs won't be "wasted".  I have a messed up schedule this weekend (12 hour 7p-730a Saturday night/sunday morning followed by 3-1130pm Sunday) and have no idea how I'm going to fit sleep and my appointment in.  Not to mention lifting patients while I'm feeling this uncomfortable.  I know its all for a good cause, but I really can't wait to be done with the stims.

    me:41 dh:42
me:PCOS, blocked left fallopian tube, hyperprolactinemia  (dh's swimmers are perfect/normal)
Tried 3 rounds of clomid with Ovidrel trigger (BFNs)
May/June 2016 IVF   6/1 ER 7 eggs retrieved, 7 fertilized via ICSI  6 embryos made it to blasts.
6/6 2 AA embryos transfered, 4 BBs frozen
    Beta 6/18  -- BFN
    FET #1 August 22 BFN
Dec 2016/Jan 2017 Round 2 was a bust. 6 eggs, Only 1 embryo made it, no transfer
FET #2 cancelled 10/17 due to uterine polyps. Postponed until 9/2018 due to hip replacement.

FET #3 9/11/18 Uterine scratch and antihistamine protocol/lovenox done this time. 2 AA hatching blasts put in.  BFP 9/20/18!!

  • @sleepyrn ugh that schedule sucks and lifting patients .... I'm a medical secretary and just getting up and down today is getting uncomfortable  :/

  • Thanks for the warm welcome! And yes, @casey8784  I do see several familiar faces!! FX that this is our round!!  The puppy is 120lbs and just shy of 11 months. We're expecting him to be about 150 full grown. Here's a pic, he's such a cuddle bug!! And he's 100 times more chill than the almost 10 year old lab!!

@ale9687  last cycle they only got 6 eggs and only 1 made it to transfer. So unfortunately we don't have any frozen.

@KirstenCas I was doing acupuncture twice a week at a community acupuncture clinic. I really liked it but haven't been since January. It's only $20 per session. Since the last IVF didn't work I told my husband I wanted to start doing acu again. Maybe it'll help this time around???

@sleepyrn I don't know how you do it!! Good luck!!

  • @kyrgyzshan awwww, i want your puppy! haha. i LOVE dogs, but pretty allergic to them. cats, on the other hand, basically send me to the ER! it's so sad. :disappointed:

@sleepyrn it's good to know that there is a way to get to your "shy" ovary! Hopefully you'll starting feeling a lot more comfortable after the ER. While at work, is there any way to delegate some of the lifting patients to others until Wednesday?

  • Hi Everyone...I see that you are all a few weeks in, so I have gone through and read everyone's posts. So, we are hoping to start our stims at the end of next week for our 1st IVF Cycle. Hoping for an ER in Mid-June with a 5-day fresh transfer.
I am definitely anxious and excited to get started, yet cautiously optimistic. I have been trying to focus on getting exercise, reducing stress, and having a little fun. The only thing I have changed is adding in Co-Q 10, which I started 2 months ago.

I am not sure what to expect, but will just take it one day at a time:) we have had 2 round of Clomid and 3 rounds of medicated IUI's, all BFN, no known reason yet why it's not working.

  • I was away for a few days, and so many new faces are here! Welcome, everyone - wishing you all good luck!

I went in for my Day 9 checkup on Tuesday, and things are looking good for our FET. My lining was already over 12! I started Ganirelix on Tuesday and will continue it through next Wednesday. One side effect: I am so bloated!!! Not fun.

My transfer date was moved from 6/4 to 6/6 due to the clinic's schedule. My fresh transfer during my original IVF cycle (which resulted in DS) was exactly 3 years ago on 6/8. FX that this is a good sign for a successful FET!

  • Well, it looks like there's a possibility I might not fit into this group after all. Ugh!!! I'm getting fed up with my doc's office!!  They've taken on way too many new patients and I feel like they're now not treating us the way we should be treated in the difficult time in our lives! It started when I didn't get a call for my beta yesterday and I finally got a (returned) call this afternoon. And then she said my doc wants to consult with me (again!) but isn't booking until July!!! (There's no reason for a consult, the plan was to try multiple IVF cycles.) And on top of that, now I need to retake some tests since they're all out of date from last summer. So I got booked for that and not 5 mins later the woman called saying she'd made a mistake and that appt was not available. And now they don't have another appointment in my window (days 5-12) for the sonohystogram. I'm really fed up!! But if I switch to a new doc, they're going to have to start from scratch so it'll take just as long. This is adding so much unnecessary stress that I shouldn't be dealing with right now! So frustrating!!

  • Hi ladies, I should be joining you all! I did my first round of IVF end of Feb, developed a bad case of OHSS, and then had to wait another month because of a vacation we had planned. But AF showed up this morning and now the waiting is over to start my FET cycle.
  • Wow, I'm so sorry @kyrgyzshan, that is unacceptable.  Doctors should always have availability for patients they are currently treating.  Ugh, I'm not sure what I would do in your situation... I might try to find another clinic that would operate a bit differently, but I can understand how that would be a hassle as well.  I sure hope everything works out for you!

Welcome @mjacks16!  Sorry about the OHSS :(  That's exciting that you'll be starting your FET cycle soon!  I added you to our spreadsheet so you will be included in the next update!  Do you have a date yet for your FET?

@Tusername -I hope you have a good holiday weekend and can relax a little before your transfer

@KirstenCas -i agree with you, I check with my RE about anything I want to take, I even asked the nurse when my acupuncturist recommended CoQ10. I don't want to do anything to mess this up, and like you said they know best. Hope your scan goes well.

@BlueEyedDreamer -what do they want the lining to measure ideally? Looks like June is a good month for you :)

@sleepyrn - when you were describing how they could access your ovary I remembered that with my cycles they always had a hard time viewing my left ovary too but they could access it during retrieval and I think they told me they would push in my abdomen. I'm a nurse too and one good thing about letting your coworkers know what was going on is that during times like this they could pick up the slack on the heavy lifting, etc.

@kyrgyzshan - my DH and I were ttc since we got married (in 2003) too and we had 1 furbaby (a 98 lb yellow lab) that my mom always teased me that we treated like our baby. So sorry that your having to deal with all this added stress. I hope that they'll let you move forward without the extra steps.

    @annebenton22 -Welcome!

@mjacks16 -sorry about the OHSS, that's great that you got to go on vacation, hopefully you were able to take your mind off things a little.

@kyrgyzshan If your current doctor wants you to start from scratch with testing anyway, then maybe it would be a good time to switch to a new clinic! I'm sorry you're having to deal with administrative delays - I cannot imagine how frustrating that must be.

@cat4151 They told me last cycle that they want lining to be at least 8 before transfer.

@Tusername Wishing you lots of luck for your transfer on Monday!! Have a nice, restful weekend.

@kyrgyzshan, I'm also doing a Lupron microdose flare protocol.  It's supposed to help jump-start sleepy ovaries, so maybe we'll both have more eggs this time.

In my last try, I had a poor response to the stims, so my cycle was cancelled and converted to IUI (and became my 8th failed IUI).  I'm really hoping to make it to egg retrieval this time.

This is my last try with my ovaries, we've decided.  Not our last try ever, but our last try with my ovaries.  And I'm feeling a mess of emotions about it-- so much that I'm not even posting here as much as I thought I would.  I just have...  FEELINGS.  You know?

My last BCP will be the 30th, and my baseline ultrasound is 6/2, then I start lupron and stims.

I hear that lupron has a side effect of making you kind of mean, so I've warned my wife about it already!
Me- 39 (turning 40 in April), TTC for the first time ever (since Jan 2015), low ovarian reserve
Married 3/14/14 to my wonderful wife, but her sperm count is rather low
TTC with frozen donor sperm and science

    7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)

  • @cat4151 Thankfully I work with some awesome people, and they help as much as they can, but my assignment last night was for 3 who needed patient sitters, and 1 ended up being a code gray so I was running pretty much all night.  I'm hoping the weekend assignment will give me different patients (I'm on a rehab unit so they all stay 10-21 days).

@kyrgyzstan it might be worth it to change doctors if you're being treated that way.  This process is stressful enough, and being brushed to the side is no way to be treated.  You're paying a lot of money for their time and attention, and if you're not getting it that isn't fair to you.

FET #3 9/11/18 Uterine scratch and antihistamine protocol/lovenox done this time. 2 AA hatching blasts put in.  BFP 9/20/18!!

@lilmissslp -I don't remember the amount of stim meds I was on, but if it was me I would just check with your nurse or RE and make sure the prescription wasn't written wrong or that the pharmacy didn't make a mistake. Otherwise if it was me I'd be worried the whole time until I knew that what I was taking was exactly what they wanted me to be.

@BlueEyedDreamer - thank you, it's been a while since I've been up on all this that I can't remember those details. That's great that yours is doing so good.

@sleepyrn - that's great that you have such good co-workers. I hope you have a better assignment this weekend. Sometimes working as a nurse when going through all this is hard, but there has been some befits I've had another nurse at work give me my trigger shot, lol.

@kyrgyzshan - that's great news! So glad the office staff was wrong. Sometimes it pays to keep asking till you get the right answer.

Afm - I talked to the acupuncturist who works with my clinic where I'm having the transfer (it's 4.5 hours from where we live so I'm doing the monitoring at their local office and the transfer at the main office) and got all set up to do treatment right before and right after the transfer. I also got a call from the pharmacy and my doctor changed my prescription to generic progesterone suppositories so now my insurance will be covering all the meds so I'll only have to pay $87. That helps since I thought the transfer was going to be around $2500 and it turns out that it's $3500.

  • Are most of you getting your IVF/IUI meds in the United States? My RE is ordering mine from Europe to cut down costs...so total they will be 3,000 ish vs 5,000 out of pocket if I were to get all of mine here the United States. I have no insurance coverage so anything helps!
I guess for my fertility clinic it's kind of the norm to get them from Europe....just curious what everyone else was doing :)

  • @cat4151 thanks for the advice. I've emailed them  and am waiting to hear back before I put my order in. Enjoy the acupuncture!  I'd really like to try it sometime.

@Sunflower5678 I'm getting my meds from a different state but within the USA. That's interesting. I've always read IVF is cheaper in the Czech so I guess it makes sense. I'm just using the pharmacy my re recommended. It's called Mandells.

I am hoping to join this thread. I commented a couple of times on the April/May IVF thread. I am 27 and my husband is 26. We are doing IVF due to MFI. We had our egg retrieval on May 3rd and we were expecting to transfer sometime in June. My doctor only does freeze all cycles, he won't do a fresh transfer. Unfortunately my doctor is taking two weeks off in June and when he gets back our embryologist is off for 2 weeks. Grrr.... That means that we won't be transferring until July. We do have our transfer date though which is exciting. Our transfer is currently scheduled for July 14th with our first beta set for July 25th.

It has been a long wait but I am hoping that the end is in sight.

  • @sunflower5678 I live in Mi but got my meds from South Miami Pharmacy in Florida.  My RE uses them because they give discounts to those who don't have great insurance coverage.  My ins does cover the meds, so my copay was only $120 using them.  Most local pharmacies around here don't stock the meds, so it worked out well using them.  Everything was over the phone and they quote you before you pay/get them shipped.

@lilmissslp -that's good that you asked, then you won't be worried about it. I hope you get a quick response. If you're interested in acupuncture I would highly recommend it! Even if you have to pay out of pocket, just doing it before and after the transfer to get the blood flowing to the uterus and relax you.

@Sunflower5678 - I had looked at getting meds from out of the country when I was first starting all this. From what I read on some of the boards there's pros (cost) and cons (meds could get stuck in customs or for other reasons not make it to you as quickly as coming from the US). I was trying to decide if I wanted to risk it when my nurse gave me a list of pharmacies that I was allowed to order from, they wouldn't let their patients order from overseas pharmacies, so the decision was made for me. We payed out of pocket too. So I called all the pharmacies on the list and compared the costs. A lot of them have coupons and discount programs (I think some of the names of the discount programs we signed up for were Heart and Design RX). For us the cheapest ended up being Walgreen's Specialty. Also (at the time at least) EMD Serono had a Compassionate Care program (basically a scholarship to cover the cost of meds) unfortunately we didn't qualify for that. They also had a FertilityAssist 2 program that gives you up to $500 off Gonal-f on your second round of medication. So if you're not comfortable with getting your meds from another country there are lots of ways to cut down the costs. It sounds like your doctor is pretty familiar with where they get them from though.....

@rmarble23 -wow, coming soon! I hope your trigger is tomorrow. I understand the whole DH work thing, we were supposed to have our FET on July 1 but my DH couldn't get work off and I kinda wanted him to be there ;) so we had to change the date to July 20.

@Kerami1 - wow, what a long cycle! That must be super frustrating! Why couldn't they take their 2 weeks vacations at they same time rather then holding everyone up for a month.

Glad to see everyone moving along in their FET and ER cycles. I am continuing to recover from OHSS and I am feeling a lot better. I still have some discomfort, but I've been able to do a lot more during the day.

I look forward to reading more updates from everyone.

    Welcome @Kerami1 !
