Anyone else extremely distracted by baby's almost constant movement?!?! I can't focus on my work!
My baby has been moving constantly for the last 24+ hours. I couldn't even sleep, she/he wasn't this active before. I called and talked to my OBs nurse and she said not to worry about it, but it's still kinda freaking me out.
@midwestbaby sorry you're having a tough time emotionally. I've been feeling the same way for the past week or so. I'm attributing it to hormones and all the changes coming up in the next few months (baby, moving, job changes,) but it still sucks! I hope you get the therapy situation sorted out soon!
@midwestbaby we haven't had a mental health check in for a little bit. Since it is so new I kind of forget until I see a thread like this. I am so not creative enough to make up questions for check ins either or I would start one.
@Hannah0726 yes!! My DVR becomes a mad house in the summer because of BB and BBAD. I feel so nerdy getting so into it but I can't handle not knowing who wins comps and waiting until the next episode so onlinebigbrother.com becomes my BFF. I don't read on elimination nights though because I like to find out that live lol
I think it's totally understandable to feel that way when so many big changes are coming up. When we moved last year, I thought that was stressful on its own. I can't imagine moving with a baby on the way. I am glad you guys found an awesome place though!

@jamiesc58 I was just thinking today that we haven't had one in a week or so. I don't mind starting them. I think they can just be as simple as a check in/how is your week going kinda thing. I was just adding questions so we could get to know one another better.

@texasmomma2014 they draw 2 vials of blood and do the GD and Hemoglobin at the same time.
I was super excited that I passed the GD test and then I just got a call from the doctor telling me I am anemic. So now, on top of my prenatal, fish oil, and anxiety meds that I take, I have to add Iron pills, vitamin C, calcium with vitamin D, and Colace as all of this is probably going to constipate me. How the heck am I going to fit all of that in a day AND remember to take them all?
Crap. I forgot about that one. Blood draws are the most annoying part of pregnancy appointments.
@midwestbaby omg that is so lame!! I would be fired in like a week - I have a problem with being like 2-4 minutes "late" like everyday. But no one cares if you work through your lunch or leave 15 minutes past your shift .. Ammiright?!
I just got the call that I passed my 1-hour test!! I was seriously stressing because momma likes her sweet treat before bed. I kinda liked the drink, I got lemon lime flavor- my mom went with me and I gave her a teeny sip and she was like yummmmmm lol. I'm anemic though * wah wah
I broke a tooth eating cereal this weekend (wtf!). Monday I had to get a filling to repair the tooth. Yet another unwanted thing to expose baby too. Sigh...
Since I pretty much did nothing but lay around all day and procrastinate, it gave me lots of time to lurk.

@midwestbaby holy cow, that MIL's grandma shower thread makes my MIL look like a saint, which is saying a lot! I can't even believe someone would throw themselves a "grandma shower", I don't care how much you're watching the baby.
I'm sorry but a Grandma shower? I would probably bitch my mom or MIL out if either of them wanted to do something like that. My MIL is attention grabby but never that obvious about it.
Yeah I thought the MIL grandma shower was ridiculous. The OP was a lot nicer about it than I would have been.
As as for the breathing thread. I am loving the gifs getting tossed around.

@midwestbaby gooood find!! I got kinda sad at all those banned July users but June board totally entertained me.
On the baby breathing post: That "WAT" gif made me cry laugh out loud that DH MADE me show him what I was reading. He thinks we women can get so nasty on here
On the grandma shower post: Eww ew ewwwwww!!! Just when you think you heard it all, some MIL's take ridiculousness to a whole new level! DH and I would be in a serious fight over this. Either he steps up and puts some damn boundaries and sense into his own mother or bye-MIL-Felicia! Some MIL's are so fking toxic and annoying (nothing against those who looove their MIL's!!)
@midwestbaby Oh my god, I laughed so hard at that "WAT?" meme in the "I can feel her breathe" thread that I peed my pants a little and I couldn't breathe. Like, I literally had to go change my pants and I really hope none got on the couch. So thanks for that! It was a pregnancy first for me.

My mom and sister are hosting my baby shower. They have been asking me what I want the "theme" to be. I told them that whatever they do is fine, I'm not picky. The only thing I said was not a princess theme? If that's even a thing. For the nursery I didn't have a theme, just a color scheme, light pink and gray. They said if I don't choose a theme they will just go with those colors for decorations.
Should I be responsible for picking a theme? Give them some direction? I honestly don't have any ideas.
My mom and friend April asked me the same question for mine. They are just going to match the nursery with a woodland theme. I am not overly picky either and my only request was for the games to not make me into the center of attention/freak show. IE: the guess how big i am with the string around my belly, no thank you.

Any recommendations for podcasts to listen to? I already listen to; The Birth Hour, Radio Lab, and Sword and Scale, but I am running out of episodes on all of them and would like something new.
@midwestbaby thanks for the entertainment! The MIL shower thread was out of control! How she stayed so calm is beyond me, I would literally be freaking the hell out.
@Hannah0726 I don't think it's necessary to have a theme for the baby shower. I've seen a few themed showers (i.e. Books, milk and cookies, ect) but a lot of people, in my experience, just pick a few colors and decorate that way.
That being said baby showers are drastically different in different parts of the country. I live in the south so baby showers aren't super strict about etiquette like other areas are. Most women in my area have showers for each baby they have even if it's 3 or 4 and I know that in other places that's a no no.
Aren't presents at showers for the unborn child, NOT for the parents to be so much? So is grandma handing over the loot or stealing from a baby - cause it sure sounds like the later!
@Hannah0726 I didn't have a "theme" just a color scheme. I know some people who did, but I don't think it is something you need to be responsible for, unless you're really picky. The themes were usually very loose, like teddy bears or books, things like that.
@kristynmac when DS was first born I listened to "the longest shortest time" and it was a really great 'new mom' podcast. I listen to a lot of WNYC podcasts, because that's my local NPR station... I love 'Death, Sex and Money' and 'Fresh Air'. This American Life is also amazing, and if you haven't listened to Serial, then that's a must!

If you like parenting podcasts, I really like The Longest Shortest Time. Non-parenting podcasts I like: This American Life, Mortified, Serial (season one is better), and Limetown (disclaimer: it's fictional, though they never really come out and say that).
Excited -- we just filled out paperwork for a new (to us) car and are picking it up tomorrow night! Passing my little Civic along to my husband for him to drive to work and I get to drive our kidmobile, a 2012 Rav4!
Anyone else drive a Rav4 with two kids? How do you like it?
@tisunge602 My mom has that exact car, and I love it. We've already checked - our car seat fits in it even better than mine. My husband can sit in the back seat with my father in front of him (both are well over 6 foot)
The only hassle about it is the automatic lift gate. It's slooooooow, and you can't force it or open it manually. So if you are trying to get something in the back in a hurry and get gone, you have to wait.
That being said, if you have your hands full, it can be helpful.
I just went and read the "Grandma Shower" post and HOLY SMOKES that MIL sounds just like my daughter's dad's mom!!! When she found out I was pregnant, she offered to adopt our baby (uh. no thanks...) and then decided to get her tubal ligation reversed and start "trying" again (she had 3 grown children at the time, ages 18, 20, and 21); literally every time I saw her she would just talk about her "journey" to get pregnant and totally ignore the fact that she was expecting her first grandchild. The worst part was that she was "too young" to be called grandma, so she insisted that my daughter call her Ma Mere (French for "My Mom").
She never did get pregnant and ended up adopting 5 kids out of foster care instead. All three of her grown children are essentially failures (perpetually unemployed or underemployed, still living in her basement, etc.) so I guess she's trying to see if she can be more successful with the next batch? She still insists that my daughter call her "ma mere".

Actually, the 2012 still has the manual open gate that opens left to right. So if that's the only hassle, then yay for me!
@1faceinacrowd you poor thing! That lady sounds like a complete crazy person!!
I also read the grandma shower posts. Holy hell, if my MIL tried to pull that I'd be furious. I was really happy when I read the posters update that she didn't attend. I was thinking the whole time that's what I would do and make it extremely awkward for the MIL!!
@Hannah0726 I was asked for colors and ideas of what I like and I said I was open. I personally love themes, because I like coordinating and decorating, so I was happy to hear when my friends and family picked a dr. Seuss theme for my shower (thing 1&2 and gender neutral). Wouldn't of been my first choice but looking on Pinterest there are some really cute ideas that go with it. I'm excited to see what they come up with!
