Not usually, unless there was something concerning found at the anatomy scan, or your fundal height is less than it should be, or you have other risk factors. I'm at a slightly increased risk for IUGR, so my OB wants to do a quick check at 28 weeks.

I had to have an extra scan for a low lying placenta, those with partial or total placenta previa also have to have at least one or more extra scans to ensure that a vaginal delivery is necessary.

I had during my last pregnancy b/c I was measuring small...definitely not the case this time.
  • My doctor does one at 32 weeks and then another at 39 or 40. I think that is standard protocol for her office.

All my shows are ending. I hope there will be some good summer series. I am sick of Law and Order reruns
  • I'm having an extra scan to check baby's kidneys because one was measuring large at the anatomy scan.

UnReal (the show that mocks the bachelorette) I think is having a second season too and I believe it starts in June?

I loved Catastrophe! I'm just sad it was so short. They haven't even started filming season 3 yet so it will be a while.

  • @Hannah0726 I LOVE Big Brother. My mom, grandma, and I have been watching it for a few years now and I recently just got my hubby into it!!
  • @Hannah0726 I loved UnReal tv last summer! I forgot that was coming back!

I just finished watching 6 seasons of the Good Wife on Hulu and it was amazing. Now I'm all caught up, but I think it's actually ending for good this season  :'(

  • @Hannah0726 My brother got me into big brother a few seasons back but I haven't watched any since then. I think I'm gonna watch this new season and see if I still like it.
  • @Hannah0726 I LOVE Big Brother!! I'm totally a crazy super fan that reads updates on the feeds and finds out spoilers. UnReal is also amazing and I'm so excited it's coming back soon!

Big Brother is the best! I've watched it since the first season. Maybe we can have a Big Brother thread. ;)

The Bachelorette also starts soon too. Not super stoked it's JoJo but I always watch anyways.

@justaudrey I read the newsfeed too! But then I get so mad at myself because when I watch the show I've already spoiled it. Do you watch "BB After Dark"?

I was going through Prime last night and saw Catastrophe but had never heard of it. We are adding it to our list of shows to watch.

  • I had my GD test yesterday. The drive to the office usually takes 20 minutes but because it was 3:00 pm traffic, it took 45. I get into the office at 3:53 and they won't do my test because "The lab closes at 5:00 pm and it is the one hour". So, I have to drive another 20 minutes to the next town where my practice has another lab that is open until 6:00 pm. I finally drink the drink at 4:45 pm and get blood drawn an hour later. What a pain. On a positive note, I passed!
  • @jamiesc58 They need a lab? My office just did a finger prick... Thats dumb. But at least you passed!

2 years ago I switched to a midwife office about 20 miles from home because it's one of the only hospitals that offer a waterbirth, I've been very vocal about having (trying) a waterbirth. My DH is petrified of doctors and this might be the only way he is able to stay with me.

My last appointment the MW says that I most likely won't be able to have a waterbirth due to my BMI.  I was fat when I started with the office and I've only gained about 6 lbs, but now you decide to tell me about your rules for waterbirth.  I was so stunned and left speechless.  I have a hospital less then 5 miles from my house but made the choice to driver further to have (try) the birth experience I want.

    rant over, thanks for reading.....
  • I'm having a rough week emotionally/mentally. I think this is the first week the hormones and not being on medication is getting to me. I still have not had any resolution through the behavioral health department and feel like they just don't care and are leaving me to fend on my own. I'm hoping talking to my OB about it next week will get me in the right direction.

It's a beautiful day and I have it off and haven't even left the house even though I know I should. Also the house is a disaster and I can't even bring myself to at the very least pick it up.

And to top it off my manager had to talk to me yesterday about their new sick leave policy that our hospital just changed. If you are sick three days in a 6 month period you are put on corrective action. Also if you are late by even one minute, or leave early it counts as a tardy. Two tardys=one whole sick day. So because I was sick two days (throwing up) in my first trimester and I punched in late last Friday at 601 AM instead of 600, I am on corrective action. Great. Just great.

I can't believe they can back date your sick leave like that. It should be "from this point forward..." That's awful. I'm sorry you're having a tough week. Hopefully your OB can help.
  • who do you work for, sounds like my last employer trying to get rid of people that was all @midwestbaby
  • @Hannah0726 @emmeline714

I didn't think they could back date either, but my manager said because it was a modification of the policy, it still counted. At this rate, half of the staff will be on corrective action with the late policy. It seems unfair that HR who drafts up this policy is salary and therefore does not punch in and cannot be considered late. So this only applies to the hourly paid employees. It also baffles me that we are encouraged to stay home when sick because we work directly with patients. Insert big sigh here.

  • @Hannah0726 I LOVE BB!!! I was just telling my husband the other day that I hope I can still keep up with it once the twins are born. I love that it comes on 3 X a week in the summer since there aren't many other shows I watch during that period.  I usually don't start reading the blogs until towards the end of the season when I start to get antsy. So excited for it to start back up!!

  • @BrunetteBabe722 My doctor scheduled one for my 28 week appointment because I have a large-ish fibroid right in the front of my uterus. This gets in the way of her being able to get accurate measurements from the outside. I am looking forward to a bonus viewing of my LO!

My doctors office billed something as "obesity" rather than "pregnancy" - tots the same thing right? Except if the cause is "obesity" (which, oh by the way, I'm not!) my insurance doesn't cover it.

Also - DON'T CALL ME FAT! Jerks.

  • @midwestbaby Sorry you're having such a rough week. Hang in there, one deep breath at a time, and vent as much as you need to. That's what we're here for!

That sounds like a really sucky policy your hospital put in place. Three sick days in six months seems crazy - one round of the flu can put you out for that long, and you may not take another sick day for years! Maybe when everyone starts coming to work sick, they'll get the message. I would definitely be trying to find an excuse for a meeting with HR while I was contagious so I could cough all over their desks. (Yeah, I'm passive-aggressive like that.)

Corrective action isn't permanent though, right?
  • @texasmomma2014 they draw 2 vials of blood and do the GD and Hemoglobin at the same time.

I was super excited that I passed the GD test and then I just got a call from the doctor telling me I am anemic. So now, on top of my prenatal, fish oil, and anxiety meds that I take, I have to add Iron pills, vitamin C, calcium with vitamin D, and Colace as all of this is probably going to constipate me. How the heck am I going to fit all of that in a day AND remember to take them all?
  • Anyone else extremely distracted by baby's almost constant movement?!?! I can't focus on my work!
  • @Samm116 I'm sorry, that's really crummy.  I hope you are able to reach a solution with your DH, even if it means switching practices.  It may seem late, but you have to do what is going to make the most sense for you!

@midwestbaby, you seem very knowledgeable and passionate about your job.  At the end of the day I bet this nuisance leads to nothing, it's just a protocol to allow the hospital to weed out truly irresponsible/problem employees.

I also have no motivation to leave my house or to clean,  so I sit and procrastinate, knowing full well it will only cause me tons of stress over the next few weeks.
  • Just drank the glucose drink.. I was expecting it to be nasty, but it pretty much tasted like an unfrozen flavor ice popsicle. Fingers crossed that I pass because I have zero self control when it comes to eating sugar.

Thank you. They said I could labor in the tub, just not deliver In the tub, if I'm at a certain BMI.  I'm not there yet but if I gain about 20 lbs I'll be there.  A different practice won't make a difference cuz my DH can't handle docs anyway, so I figured the water birth has the least amount of "medical intervention" and he might not pass out

I loved the (first, 50 g) glucose drink!  It basically tasted like flat orange soda but it was nice and cold and refreshing.  My SIL hated it so much she threw up, so I guess everyone is different!

The 2nd (100 g) drink on the other hand, was not so good.  I had to get the 3-hour test since I failed the 1-hour.  I barely passed the 3-hour so I have to cut down on sugar and carbs... not so easy when your biggest pregnancy craving is milkshakes :( but I will do what's best for me and baby and allow the occasional treat instead of having them on a regular basis.

@Mfuller76 thanks for the words of encouragement  It isn't permanent, just a written warning that I have to provide proof of my absences. I have notes from my OB that I will provide for my file. It would be permanent if I have one more though...and I believe one more after that and they would let me go.

    @Nikkoli98
I love what I do for a living, but as with every place there is always the politics that make it or break it. I have been there 5 years and have never been put on a corrective action, so it just makes me feel like crap. I do know that management has been told by the higher ups that approximately 500,000 hours needs to be cut by the end of the year system wide. Maybe this new sick policy is one of the ways to accomplish that.

Also I managed to wash our sheets today, so I guess I will count that as a win in the motivation part. But procrastination is my favorite past time these days.
