It's crazy the way people act on these boards but I'm not surprised. This is the same group (pregnant or ttc women on the Internet) that will post 3 million photos of a NEGATIVE pregnancy test, some black and white, some with colors inverted, with the wedding ring on it, asking "DO YOU GUYS SEE THE LINES?!? DO YOU??!" The crazy is entertaining and half the reason we're all here.
I agree with this, for many of the same reasons. But we started as a much bigger Facebook group, only to branch out into two separate ones, for various reasons. Since then, it's been great. We are all so close and I'm very glad I joined years ago. But, it would be quite a while before I would even consider a FB group.
^^^ this!! I had the same experience as @GreenEyedUnicorn. I'm so lucky to have such a supportive group and have even gotten to meetup with a few of the moms, but the drama that went down before and even after my BMBs FB group split was crazy. I'm more cautious now.
May14 was the board where the woman stole the money "for a glider". That was a shit show and I don't miss the drama. Went on for months in our FB group. In the end, she did eventually donate the money. And I know that for a fact because I was the one she texted the final receipts to.
Ahaha. Turns out I did read this as it went down and I forgot. When it went down I was posting on TK and someone linked to it like "get a load of this shit", then doeydo freaked out on one person's comment and blew our cover. lol.
I've posted on a lot of forums over many years and this shit definitely happens a lot. Two separate people on two separate ones faked their suicides. Ultimately I think the majority don't really have a super nefarious ulterior motive like stealing money (though that definitely happens too), they just really like attention. Munchausen by internet is a thing that happens on a lot of illness support groups in particular.

When a Facebook group is formed is there a way for us to guarantee that the people in the group are real pregnant people from this board?
I'm not sure if there is a way to really guarantee. I think the idea, at least based on the experience from my previous BMB (others may have done it differently), we didn't create one until almost the very end. It was pretty obvious by then who the regulars were and who seemed kinda sketchy. I believe we had one moderator who kinda screened everyone trying to join. I'm sure we can figure out those logistics when the time comes that makes everyone comfortable.
