The Named

Re: The Named

  • @SarahMConnors On the "AJ" train of thought - I agree with @AnnaS930 in that I doubt it will catch on for your LO unless you start it.  I went to high school with a guy everyone called "AJ" but those were his first name/last name initials (not first name/middle name).  If you like Aiden James but want to avoid "AJ" I think it's totally doable...and if anyone randomly refers to him as "AJ" you can just shut it down right then and there.  "Nope, he's Aiden.  Just Aiden."  :)

  • skirtandsandals I think Minerva works best as a mn. Katherine Minerva is a lovely name IMO.

  • I need your opinions....  Is Shannon a weird middle name?  Do you think of it just as a first name?
  • @Ssoccerball I think it completely depends on what the first name is!  Granted, I do definitely think of Shannon as a first name but only because that's the only context I've ever heard it in.  If someone used it as a middle name (as long as it flowed nicely with the first and last name), I wouldn't blink an eye!  :)

So along the lines of @SarahMConnors we had Jameson picked out as a boys name for forever.   Flash forward to actual pregnancy and I've fallen out of love with it.   We're team green but we have come up with the following:

    Quinton Robert
    McKenna Olivia

What do you think of the combination/names?

Also @SarahMConnors I love the combination of Aiden James and how it flows and agree with previous PP, that no one will call him AJ at school unless it's been started at home already.  I have close friends for over 20 years and I still couldn't tell you their middle names.   (To be fair though that was one of my worries too when we started putting names together, but then my husband asked if I knew <long standing friend>'s middle name and his point was quickly made, lol.)
  • @camichael84 is going to be a big fan of your girl name, I can tell you that much!

I've known 1 McKenna in my life and thought it was a beautiful name, and a bit unique which I really like. My last BMB had a Quentin (so similar) and he goes by Q, and I absolutely love that!

  • @sarahmconnors, I actually really like Jameson if you are still considering it. I don't dislike Aiden, but feel like it's connected to the Brayden, Hayden, Jayden, Cayden fad.

@RG1 from your list I really like Finley. Also Quinten, but prefer Quentin, which would have a slightly different pronunciation.

@jennm205, I love Isla, but think a lot of people will mispronounce, and definitely misspell. Silas is my favorite of your boy names, but I would probably use nn Si, which lends to your one syllable problem. Miles was also in the running for DS2s name and I still really like it.

  • This week I think we have it narrowed down to Eliza, Mila and Aubrey. Thoughts/preferences?
  • @AnnaS930 Can't lie @camichael84 definitely inspired the girls name.   I fell in love with it when she first mentioned her daughters name and thankfully DH was all, 'that's it!' too. :)
  • This week I think we have it narrowed down to Eliza, Mila and Aubrey. Thoughts/preferences?

    I love Aubrey :)

  • @fireflygirl12 - Is Mila - Mee-lah? I really like Aubrey but feel like it is picking up as a trendy name and in that case I might like the classic Audrey moreso.  I like the name Eliza but really dislike a coworker with that name, so it's giving me a bad feeling ONLY because of her! Luckily - you don't know her :) I think I'd otherwise like that too

  • @Ssoccerball I definitely think of Shannon more as a first name but could see it used as a middle name depending on what the first name is.

    Example:

I like:  Mary Shannon (although every time I say it in my head it's with a strong Irish accent), Nora Shannon, Rebecca Shannon

Not a fan of:  Whitney Shannon, Victoria Shannon, Isla Shannon, Etc.
  • @fireflygirl12 I like Aubrey the best out of those three.   What are your thoughts on Autumn though?  Just wondering as when I first read it, I read it as Autumn and I really like that name.
  • @annas930, yes, it is pronounced mee-lah. Agree that Aubrey is picking up, but DH has strong preference of Aubrey over Audrey, whereas I could go either way.

@laker2014, I don't dislike Autumn, but not in love with it.

  • @fireflygirl12 What are your other children's names?  I really like Eliza and Mila.  Aubrey is my least favorite of the three.

  • I have a good friend named Eliza and I do like that name. I also have Aubrey on my short list so far.
  • @fireflygirl12 Hmmm...I think Eliza and Mila both go great with your boys' names!  If I had to pick one or the other, I'd say Eliza and only because it has a more girly flare with the third syllable to distinguish her from her big brothers.  Still not a fan of Aubrey, especially when you already have a Wesley...but I know Aubrey is becoming more and more popular so obviously there are people out there who love it!!

In need of opinions / suggestions if you ladies don't mind!

Dale is DH's middle name and both of his Grandfather's first names so it will be the middle name for this child, regardless of sex (we are Team Green).  Honestly, I like it better for a girl than a boy even though I know that's not it's typical use.

Girl - Isla Dale.  Not loving how Isla is gaining in popularity and also wary of the mispronounciation/mispelling nightmare we may be subjecting our daughter to but haven't come up with anything we like better.

Boy - We have a list of options but I'd love opinions/suggestions!  Our last name is hard to pair with sometimes so I'm going to include a similar surname below so you get the idea (but, never fear...our last name is not "Hammi".)  ;)

    Silas Dale Hammi
    Miles Dale Hammi
    Levi Dale Hammi
Saulius (alternate spelling Salius) Dale Hammi

I feel like our last name doesn't pair well with one-syllable first names so I'm almost even trying to avoid names that can be shortened to one-syllable nicknames...so if we went with "Saulius" I really don't think I'd want it shortened to "Saul".

Also, this baby will be joining big sister Evelyn Della.
    I love Silas and Levi.

  • @RG1 My little gut will be Finley James so that's my preference.... ;) haha. But Everett is a wonderful name. Love that and Emmett.
  • @fireflygirl12 I love Eliza! It has good nickname options too.

@AnnaS930@fireflygirl12 @mom2adoodle thanks for the feedback!

@mom2adoodle James was going to be our guy's middle name if we picked Finley! That's too funny :)

  • @LakeR2014 I love both the names you've picked! Especially the girl name.

@fireflygirl12 Mila is my favorite. I've always thought it was a really pretty name. I'm actually finding myself wondering why I hadn't considered it for this baby.

  • @fireflygirl12 Our top choices are Owen and Eliza! We must have similar name taste.

  • Maximillian John is our little guys name. We decided to go with tradition on both sides of our family and us my husband's first name as the middle name.
  • fireflygirl12 I'm team Eliza. It was in my top 5 girls names before we found out we are team blue. I feel like it ages well, and like pp said lots of good nickname choices!
  • Thanks ladies- I'm sure DH will flip flop a few more times. He's convinced that if we name the baby Jameson people will shorten it to James, which he doesn't want. I love Aiden, and I agree Aiden James does flow better- though he seems to still want to avoid the simple "James" lol- I feel like Aiden Jameson is a little much, idk. I'm officially overthinking it. We have time, thankfully :) I liked Jameson because it was a little more unique than any of the other names that DH liked. Now if it was a girl we'd be set- I've had that name picked out since I was a kid, and DH loves it too. I do feel like Aiden is a much more popular name, but that's my only qualm with it. I do still love the name. We shall see!

@fireflygirl12 I LOVE all three of those names! I'm no help at all lol- I'm the worst at decision!

@LakeR2014 I love both of those names :)

AND @fireflygirl12  & @LakeR2014 I LOVE LOVE LOVE the name Autumn!!!! LOVE it!!!

I had proposed the name August to DH and he squashed it- said it's "too weird" *sigh* I like the more unique names!

  • Our little guy's name will be Evan Timothy. I was pretty set on Ezra, but the hubby just doesn't like it. He will join big brother Levi Harvey.
  • Our little guy will be Quinn Stanley. Quinn is the name DH and I chose and Stanley is my dad's middle name and his fsther's first name. Since our last name is DH's last name,  we will have  family names from both sides. Also, Quinn will be joining sister Paige so we'll have be sure to mind our "Ps and Qs". Get it? ;-)

For those of you having girls, my name is Leilani and I've been trying to get SOMEONE to name their kid my name. Lol I like it.

Our boy list was still a bit long. Easton Oliver was my fave, but also Sebastian, Greyson, Henry, Lincoln, Simon and Leo.
  • What would you nn for Eliza? Liza? I feel like Ellie is getting overused right now, which is my biggest hesitation with Eliana.
  • @fireflygirl12 Liza, Liz, Ellie as you mentioned. We're naming this LO Eliana with Ellie as a nn. I know it's gotten popular overall, but I love it so I don't care too much. I think both Eliana and Eliza are fairly uncommon names so having a more popular nn isn't as huge of a deal. FWIW I don't know any Ellie's and have only come across one so far at DS's school.

@SarahMConnors I really like the sound of Aiden James as well. The "a" sounds go together really well :)
  • I've got my top few names picked out. (No idea on some middle names). Our last night starts with a G

    Evelyn
    Gwen
    Penelope (we'll call her Penny)

We still have another 2 weeks until we find out what we are having (it's killing me) and we have our first names but are struggling with middle names.

For a girl we are going with Annabelle and Claire, Ruth, Grace, and Faith are on the middle name list

For a boy we have Mason and John, Daniel, and Steven on the middle name list.

Any help from you ladies would be appreciated. We are keeping the name secret from family and friends until birth

  • Great names @AmMcc12 Out of those I'd pick Annabelle Grace and Mason Daniel personally. All are nice options though!

  • @AmMcc12 I like Claire a lot! Claire Ruth or Claire Grace is cute. Depending on your last name. I like Steven John if that's an option.
