Look up food-grade diatomaceous earth. People in my local natural mothering group swear by it.

  • I just had McDonald's for the first time in over a year and I know everyone's like "their food is basically cancer" and all, but damn! It was sooo good! It's not something I'd have on the reg, but for an occasional treat, you can't beat those fries!!
My favorite breakfast on the go is McD's Sausage McMuffin with Egg.....mmmm... Yes please!

@SuperNerd42 @sjo&thetwins I love that there are other people here with wider age gaps in their marriages! I feel like I have to do some defending of our 13 year age gap to some people and it's super frustrating. Love is love, yo!
    11 year age gap here!

  • @bamacoop First and foremost, tell your landlord! And tell him about your neighbors dogs too! It will do absolutely ZERO good if the source of the fleas and surrounding areas aren't treated. Fleas are really easy to get rid of if you are thorough, but come back fast if you're not. Andplusalso This should NOT have to come out of YOUR pocket!
  • @sjo&thetwins Sooo cute!!!
  • UGGGGH.  Sorry to sound like a broken record with respect to illnesses, but it appears that now that I'm finally basically over the cold that wouldn't quit, DH may very well have come down with the flu.  He had a fever yesterday evening and into today, even after taking ibuprofen, and he's been super achy and coughy.  He went to urgent care and tested negative for flu with the rapid test, but they gave him Tamiflu anyway because CDC guidelines say to give it to individuals with severe influenza-like illness even if the rapid test results are negative.

So now I'm kind of at a loss as to what to do.  Poor DH feels terrible and I don't want to make him feel like a pariah by isolating myself from him.  But I also REALLY don't want to get sick.  I'm pretty sure that I've already been exposed to his germs anyway, and I got the flu shot this year (he didn't), so I don't know what good quarantining myself from him would do at this point.  But I am so over being sick right now and I REALLY don't want to get sick again -- especially not from flu.

Can't we just both be well for a while?  Please???????

  • @simcal18 You poor thing, FX that it's for sure not the flu and you guys get over all this ASAP! Such a miserable sounding situation, you are definitely a trooper.
  • That's rough, @simcal18! If it were me, I would totally quarantine myself. You need to get all that sickness out of your house once and for all! If it's the common cold, which can easily be mistaken for the flu, your flu shot will obviously do nothing to prevent you from getting it AGAIN.

Yesssssssss. That goes for you, too, @books&icecream!
I tried!! Does anyone know how??

  • @coffee89 Hooray for your toddler behaving in the grocery store!  Mine is usually pretty good when we're grocery shopping, but I don't even bother trying to shop for clothing anymore unless my husband is with us.  Those clothing racks turn into a toddler pinball machine and I end up chasing him all over the mall.

On a similar note, does anyone know where to find some decent longer maternity shorts?  I feel too old to be wearing short shorts, especially while pregnant.

@books&icecream  You have to appeal to TB Gods... AKA send an email to community@thebump.com and ask for a user name change.

ETA: If you do change it and it's way different from your current user name, be sure to let us know so we don't think you're some random newb :)

@sjo&thetwins, LOVE the rom!  So jelly, you're making progress!!!

    My randoms:
1.)  Finally got new maternity underwear!
2.)  Burpees pregnant are NOT fun.

    ETA:
3.)  I have a question:  My friends throwing the baby shower asked me for email addresses of guests so they could send a save the date.... Then they asked me if I had my registry ready.  I didn't know whether to give them the link or not....because... isn't it too early to be adding it on to the save the date?  I feel like, it's so tacky! Am I wrong?
  • @sjo&thetwins dayumm!!! you need to come do mine next

  • Thanks guys.  I think if he'd tested positive for flu I would be more likely to quarantine, but I'm almost wondering if he has the same virus I had and it's just hitting him a bit differently.  I think I'm just going to use lots of Clorox wipes and handwashing for now and hope for the best.  Not sure what we will do about sleeping arrangements yet but we will figure it out.  We've got a very busy May ahead of us so hopefully we're just getting all of this illness out now and it will be healthy smooth sailing from now on .  .  .

  • @simcal18

My husband tested negative for the flu when I was 9 weeks pregnant. The doctor said he was 99% positive he had the flu and gave him tamiflu. I started feeling bad that day and tested positive for the flu the next day. Our symptoms were completely different! I wouldn't necessarily quarantine yourself but I would definitely be using Lysol.
  • @JamieK1882 Sorry it took me so long to respond to your post. Thank you so much! I, too, kinda cursed them as they drove away. I totally realize that kids can be huge jerks, but man, that one hurt. I'm trying to chalk it up to just punk kids who said it because they knew it would bother me and move on... Ugh, about your poor friend, too. I don't know why people say mean things about babies...come on, that's just wrong. Thank you for replying, though! It made me feel better.

@MRSCORKER I'm right there with you. I'm 16 weeks and look a lot further along. But I have noticed the past two weeks, my bump looks about the same and the rest is going down a little bit. I was talking to one of my friends about maternity pants and she said, "I didn't wear maternity pants until after I was 30 weeks." WHAT? I can't even think about my regular pants. Right now I have to live in dresses.

I feel so self conscious. I don't want to be naked and I don't want to see myself in a mirror. It's awful
I'm sorry you feel this way too but I'm glad I'm not alone. When I hear about women like your friend, it blows my mind. I've been in maternity clothes for a couple of weeks now. I'm also oddly self-conscious about my belly button. Seeing it through shirts weirds me out, it's like I want to fill it in so it can't be seen. Why am I such a weirdo?!
OMG @MRSCORKER , I thought I was the only one that had a weird thing about belly buttons.  Even before I was pregnant, I hated shirts that showed the outline of my belly button.  Now pregnant it's even worse.  It's like a big cavernous hole.  I feel like it looks like the belly button of an old man with a beer gut.  I hate the feeling of a popped out belly button, but I'm excited for it to go flat so I can't see it anymore.

My belly button is already popping out again! Maybe it's because I'm a STM (and, full disclosure, had a weird belly button even before my first pregnancy). But, it's bothering me BIG TIME.

  • Weirdly, I feel like this week I have been showing less than the last couple of weeks.  It's not that my belly is smaller, but initially only my lower belly was expanding, giving me a distinctly pregnant bump.  Now, my upper abdomen is also puffing out, bringing me back to just looking like I've had a few too many beers.  I'm going on vacation next Thursday and I really hope I look clearly pregnant in my bathing suit!

@MRSCORKER my belly button is the same way -- I swear it's indented halfway to my back! By the end of last pregnancy it was completely flat. Like, there was zero indent, it was a completely smooth surface. It was SO STRANGE and never fully recovered :(
  • I always had a freakishly small alien belly button and it didn't look normal until after my second pregnancy.
  • @kmalls Did your belly button return to being an "innie" ??  I, too, have a very deep belly button and one of the worries I am yet to tell anyone out loud is what will happen to it after pregnancy?! Not that I'm wearing a lot of crop tops or anything, but after a whole life of having an "innie" belly button, I don't want it to start being an "outie!"
  • I had a bagel with cream cheese for breakfast and I would kill for another one right about now.

We have the same EDD and I'm having that puffing happening on top as well, but somehow my belly feels smaller? I don't know, I just stare at it in the mirror sometimes like WTF is happening here.

I basically lived off of these for breakfast in my 1st tri. I know they're full of salt and fat and blablabla, but everything else made me want to puke. As long as I got my hearty Sausage Egg McMuffin breakfast every morning, I was able to keep the nausea at bay, for the most part. I've gone to making my own scrambled egg muffins now that I can stand to cook, but I still crave those little boogers every day!

@LMNOBaby -  The belly button itself didn't become an outie, but the indent is probably 1/3 of what it used to be. So it's still an innie, just not as extreme. And there's this tiny little hood of skin that has gathered on the top of it. It sounds a lot worse than it looks, but it's still very different from what it used to be!

I think it's because when your uterus expands, it mooshes everything to the top... like, your intestines and whatnot (so scientific).

  • So weird @kmalls !! The whole flattening out thing kind of weirds me out, too.  I have so much to look forward to!  :p
  • @LMNOBaby I remember reading somewhere that your belly button goes back to normal after giving birth (back to an innie if you had one before) because it's just the uterus that pushes it out. So once the uterus shrinks back down your belly button goes back in too haha

Mine is exactly the same - not as deep as it used to be, but still an innie.  I wonder if this pregnancy will be an different since it's starting out shallower.

  • I just got my daily email from Ovia and today's topic was about baby's kicks and monitoring them (starting at 28 weeks).  I feel like I'm officially going to be a crazy person then because:

"When to call your healthcare provider

Pregnant moms should call their healthcare provider about baby G’s inactivity if they notice any of the following:

    • Drastic change in frequency of his’s movements over the course of a day
    • Failure to detect 10 kicks in 2 hours multiple times in a given day
    • Any abnormal movement you may suspect, just in case"
