My scalp has been really itchy for the past few weeks.  I assume it's a pregnancy symptom as I remember my face being really dry in my first pregnancy.  Any recommendations on shampoo and conditioner for dry scalp?  I use Clear now and it's not cutting it.

  • I second the tea tree. my scalp is now the only part of my body that isn't peeling LOL.

Thanks so much everyone. @naravna that makes me feel so much better. If you don't mind me asking, did you still bleed for a few days? I'm still bleeding, no signs of tapering off. The doctors said not to worry unless it gets worse, but it's just so nerve wracking that it's still happening.
For me it stopped at night but spotting went on for about 2 weeks, stronger at first, then lighter. Really try not to worry and rest when you can. I hope you get better soon!
  • What is your most troublesome symptom?  I'm 13 weeks today and still a bit nauseous and exhausted.  Also, this extra saliva in my mouth is not helping at all with feeling nauseous!  I'm hoping there is a light at the end of the first trimester tunnel.  The nausea also caused me to eat, eat and eat some more because when I ate, I didn't feel nauseous.

Anything you are happy to see leave?  The nausea and extra saliva!  I'm looking forward to having some energy so I can get back to light working out :-) Also, I'm looking forward to making better food choices for the rest of my pregnancy.

Piece of advice for those still struggling with the tail end of first tri (or just in general)? I'm still going through it but always think about that little baby growing inside of you.  Things will get better!

I'm getting blood when I blow my nose but it hasn't started gushing yet. I've seen a few different people post about this though, pregnancy is so weird.

Yep. Was getting them daily for weeks. Using a neti-pot every night has helped cut them at least in half, I think because it keeps the nasal passages moist. Have you ever tried one?

Nope I haven't, but I think I shall pick one up!  This California dry weather is not helping at all!

I'm in California too! Neti pot has also helped alleviate some allergy symptoms for me.
  • I found my first chin hair WAHAAAAAAA! I got boob hair with DS that never went away. I'll going to need to invest in some good tweezers

  • What is your most troublesome symptom?
I have been seeing floaters for three days now. Nonstop black specks in my line of vision about the size of a gnat. Sometimes just one, sometimes two or three. It's driving me crazy!! Went to my doc yesterday and they checked my bp and urine and all looked good. They said to rest until they go away and come back on Monday if they are still there. Rested, ate a bunch and drank a lot of water yesterday. But I woke up and I still have them. Has anybody else experience anything like this? Please help if so!! I have no idea why it would be so nonstop.

ETA: Any questions you need answered??
Very confused by my floaters. Would love to hear other people's experience if they have any?

  • @PaigeShef I had them during my third trimester last time and went to see my optometrist. She assured me that it wasn't unusual and that it's a pretty common symptom of pregnancy. I'd still continue to be monitored by your doc, but that was just my experience. They went away after I had DD.

  • @PaigeShef
I have always had some floaters, especially in bright light or strain (like if I exercise or poop). I have had more since I've been pregnant, which I've just ignored because they haven't made me feel like I can't see (maybe I'm used to ignoring them). I would chalk it up to just increased stress on the body/blood volume. However, I'm not a medical doctor or basing this on any medical advice, so don't necessarily take my word for it and def let me know if your doc is worried about it!

  • Is it possible to get Braxton Hicks at 14 weeks? I swear they didn't start until third trimester last time around.

  • I know that increased thirst is normal during pregnancy, but at what point does it get abnormal?  I will definitely be asking my doctor about this at my appointment on Tuesday, but does anyone feel like they are absolutely glued to their water bottle?  If I go 15-20 minutes without water I feel totally parched.  Last night I woke up with my mouth super dry a couple of times in the night and had to get a drink.  Is this normal?  It's certainly not helping the frequent peeing either!

  • @blonde1817 I'm waking up thirsty with dry cracked lips and I am drinking a tons of water! It's awful because I'm already constantly running to the bathroom.
  • Nipple 'stuff'... I don't know what else to call it.
  • This weekend set my poor FI into a panic and he's been pretty much on my case all weekend to just sit down. We ran around a lot yesterday and during a grocery trip I started feeling really crampy and winded and my lower back hurt followed by a fear I was bleeding (was just a lot of CM). He got me a water and made me sit on a bench while he loaded the belt and the car but I had the poor thing shaking he was so scared. It happened again today so I'm currently being forced to sit with my feet up and a pillow behind my back with water. Never had this happen before, ugh!
  • Has anyone else expirenced an increased gag reflex? I almost died over a Benadryl tonight. I never have this problem. I can have a strep swab done without gagging normally.
  • Mostly experiencing RLP, nausea and fatigue over here. I thought the nausea was going away for a few days but NOPE.

For some reason this only seems to get worse (for me anyways) as pregnancy progresses. With DS I would actually vom a little if I brushed my tongue too far back. The toothbrush is a tricky thing these days for sure.

@Blonde1817 have you had your blood sugar checked? I would go get one just to be safe. Increased thirst is a symptom of high sugar.

@NicholeL16, my gag reflex is out of control. No nausea, but the sensation of needing to gag comes on really fast and strong randomly throughout my whole day. I gag once or twice then I'm good for a few minutes until it happens again. It's AWFUL.

Yes.  Brushing my tongue at the end of tooth brushing has become a delicate art, and I still have a lingering cough from my terrible cold -- it's been gagging me like crazy the whole time and one time it was bad enough to make me throw up the Gatorade I had just drank (ironically the one time I've thrown up this entire pregnancy so far).

Is anybody else's appetite just .  .  . weird?  I was not hungry at all the first 12 weeks, which seems normal, and then once I got to 12 weeks and got to the end of my terrible cold my appetite picked up substantially for a few days, which I think my have been my body reacting to not having eaten much while I was sick.  Now I'm generally not feeling hungry, but if I haven't eaten in a while and sit down with a plate of food it tastes SO GOOD and it all goes right down and I realize that I really needed food.  It's like my hunger signals aren't working or something.

  • @simcal18 haha yeah I'm losing it over here. Yesterday I was so full from lunch yet was MISERABLE and whiny because I wanted some food product but I had no idea what. I want everything and nothing all at the same time. Then the things I think I want taste weird and the things I don't think I want taste amazing.

  • I'm with you on the weird appetite. I wasn't hungry at all around dinner time last night but felt like I should eat something so I had some watermelon. Then, I had a few handfuls of popcorn, then pita chips and hummus and then a lean cuisine. Wasn't hungry at all but I felt like i needed to eat. It was so weird.

This is me all the time, not just pregnant. DH always comments on my weird dinners. Bowl of cereal, then fruit, then popcorn. I'm not one to sit down and actually eat a meal for dinner. Let's just say "weird dinners" have gotten way worse while pregnant!  :#

Anyone experiencing carpal tunnel? I've read it's really common, but usually not until the second half of pregnancy. I'm 14+3 and have been waking up to numb hands for several weeks now. This weekend was worse though. I do work at a computer and seem to always be holding something. Otherwise, I've been getting some stretching and cramping. I've been feeling better and have been able to come home and make dinner after work, but after that I'm done. I've tried getting back into Pilates and Yoga, but I still have a pretty bad low in the early evenings and I find myself in class wishing I hadn't come because I feel terrible.

Anyone else having pressure while urinating? I feel it in my abdomen and vag. I was tested for a UTI and it was negative. Doc didn't seem concerned so now I'm curious if it's just a weird pregnancy thing.

  • @MRSCORKER all the time. I was tested for a UTI and it also came back negative. Dr said it's just the uterus putting pressure on the bladder. So. much. fun.

  • ugh yes @mrscorker I was worried yesterday when I peed EIGHT TIMES AT BABIES R US but then saw a thread where it was normal. so yeah. power to the peeing.

and @morganl925 my right hand goes numb every day when I drive to work. only then.
  • @MRSCORKER does the pressure almost feel like it's your cervix/something is going to fall out? I've been feeling that off and on and was getting a little worried. It's only when I'm sitting on the toilet about to start going, or right after I'm done.

No, mine is more like pressure on the urethra and pressure in my abdomen which I guess is my bladder.

  • I feel like mines in my lower pelvis, and Googling freaks me out saying it's either nothing or an incompetent cervix. I've had no other issues/symptoms correlating to an incompetent cervix so I'm just going to try not to think about it and assume it's from the growing uterus putting pressure on everything.

  • this is not a symptom but I dont know where to put it...

Thoughts on sleeping on your back? I know I know left side.... but I toss and turn all night and almost always end up on my back at some point. I've been told if you are at an incline (like with pillows) then its not so bad but others thoughts?

This is me. I start on my side but every time I wake up during the night, i'm laying on my back. I  mentioned it my OB last appointment and she said that I should really try to sleep on my back but most likely if there was something going wrong with me or the baby while I was asleep, I would wake up.

  • Yep I read the same thing. Try not to sleep on your back but basically if you start to get short of breath you will wake up. So if you do wake up on your back, it's probably because of that and so just turn to your side.
