My first name is Elyse (ahhh, stranger danger!!!) It's usually spelled Elise but my mom got fancy with the Y. I have been called Elsie my whole life by people who can't see that the y comes before the s. It used to get on my nerves but whatevs. I like that there weren't 5 other girls with my name in my class. I meet someone with my name occasionally but it's very rare and almost always spelled the traditional way.
I love your spelling, more connected to the heavenly Elysian Fields that way.
@cd92007 I read it as the letter M. I like Emme! Although personally I would probably give the baby a longer name and have that as a nickname. @MRSCORKERAlso love Elyse, so pretty!
We're having a girl! But ugh.. girl names are so hard for me. I like short and simple, yet unique. My name is Bryn, and I love how it fits all of the above (although it is getting more popular. I didn't know ANY Bryn's growing up).
We're thinking of "Emme". Uncommon.. but it's special to us because but my husband, his dad, my dad, my grandpa (recently deceased), and his grandma all have names that start with an M.
What do you guys think of Emme? (and when you read it, did you know to pronounce it like the letter and not like Emmy?)
My cousin has a young child (2ish?) who goes by Emme, pronounced Emmy. I pronounced it "Em" in my head at first. It's not her given name - her initials are M.E. after her grandmothers, but they spell it Emme. No telling if that one's "on the rise" or not yet.
Someone tell me why it's so hard to pick boy names.
So far I like Charlotte Pearl. Lottie for short. Love seeing all these vintage names!
Sorry, stuck in quote box and cannot delete. We have a Charlotte and LOVE it. She is three. It's feminine and different without being side-eyed. Lottie is super cute and we considered it, but DH vetoed and now I cannot see DD who is 3 as anything else.
What are the thoughts on Edith Catherine? Possible nn Edie or Edie Cate. We each have an aunt who is a K variation of Catherine. Edith is DH's aunt who passed in her 20s. DD is Charlotte Elizabeth. I am also fond of Eleanor Catherine, but DH is not quite on board. I also hear it being butchered by some older southerners as "Elner."

Love Edith and Edie and love that it is a family name. Beautiful!

@BarrysBride05 I love Edith Catherine! And Edie is a sweet nn. I also like Eleanor, and that's the name we've (pretty much for sure) chosen for this baby.
@MRSCORKER DH and I stumbled upon Elise today and we actually both like it which is a miracle. Then I remembered you said it was your name (diff spelling) and was curious, do you like having that name? Do you ever meet other people with the same name? (And on a side note... I still love the name Emme but we realized it may be a bit weird with our last name).

I love my name! I feel like it's unique but not in a speshul snowflake way, lol. I've met maybe 2 or 3 others in 30 years with my name but usually spelled the way you spelled it with an I instead of Y. I will say that I am often called "Elsie" by people who can't see that the Y comes before the S but maybe if it's spelled Elise, that won't happen as much.

@mrscorker I know the feeling... I'm called Bryan all the time! (People add an extra "a") but I think those mistakes are worth having a unique (but not speshul snowflake haha) type of name. I also love the spelling Alysse but I'm worried it's too "speshul snowflake" like ha!

People will probably read it as "Alyssa" but if you like it, go for it! If you tried, you could find something to nit-pick about every name.

So far these are the names I've come up with, second names will more than likely be swahili names (if not Masai) and so those will take more time. I have to be careful with certain names because even english names get swahili pronunciation and for whatever reason, Tanzanian's swap L and R like they are the same letter. my name for instance (Kelly) is impossibly hard for most Tanzanians.
BOY
Isaiah
Jireh
Girl
Anna
Abagail
For swahili names I love Baraka (which means blessing-boy name) and Zawadi (gift- unisex but more often girl) but they are fairly common and I know quite a few by these names and so it might be hard for me to use them.
We've decided PP is too much. So now we're thinking Vander, which is basically kind of a madeup name. What do you guys think? I like Van for a nn, too.
Found out today that very possibly...most likely...waiting for official 20 week anatomy ultrasound...we're having a boy! Happy face for a boy, sad face because we have a hard time picking out boy names.
We came up with the possible Finley John as a possibility, call him Finn. Only question is whether Finley is to popular of a name for girls today. I don't know of any Finleys, boy or girl, but I know if I bring up the unisex possibility to DH he will instantaneously block the name...help?
@breweber2010I love Finn! We named our puppy Flynn, though, so Finn is out for us for a boy.
What about Finlan or Finton, with Finn for short? I've only heard Finley used as a girl name, though it can definitely go either way. Though, my husband is the same - if he heard it as a unisex name, it would be out! *sigh*
@breweber2010 I know a little boy named Finley and he is adorable! I also know a little boy named Finn. I don't know any girls named Finley so I definitely associate it with a boy!

@kamroberts Adeline Rose is so pretty! Do you pronounce the ine harder like Caroline, or soft like Carolyn?
My daughter she us 3 her name is Adeline Lillian you would be amazed at how many people can't figure out how to pernouce it. Most people just call he Adi or Adele she is head strong though so she sets them right.
I started a list of names I love and DH shot them all down instantly. I love Olive, Eleanor, Penelope and Indy. The only name he has thought of and liked so far is Eula May. Um no. Also, we don't even know what we are having. Our luck it will be a boy. Boy names are so hard.
Finley is a very cute boys name Love Adeline very pretty
Me and My DH came up with a girl name when I was pregnant the first time that we have never used. Adabella Victoria
If it's a boy he wants a junior I named our first two boys he's wanted a jr all along. so I told him he gets last say.
Thing is my family hates both names says adabella is too long, but me and DH love it. My oldest son keeps saying it's a boy and we are naming him George but I promised DH he could have final say as long as I dont hate it. my mom and youngest brother keep trying to give me different names but I hate all there suggestions so DH has just said to not even think they get to let to choose. Which is for me everyone in my family loves both of sons names.

If our twin set is one boy/one girl we are going to name her Finleigh Jo. My boss has a son named Finley. Fin will be her nickname as well as it is his sons.
If it is two girls I like Cora Leigh and Charli Jo.
Here's my list. DH has shot down all of my girl name choices, and the only one he came up with was Blake. Which, just isn't my style for a girl. But, we agree on several boy names.
GIRL: Vivian Hazel Vera Rosalie Blake
BOY: Spencer Jonah Russell Carter Oscar Jude Regan
We have an envelope with baby's sex at home and we're opening it over dinner tonight. So, I'll know soon enough which of these lists can be tossed!
