We have an 8 and 6 year old and recently started asking their opinions about what we should name the babies. I've never laughed so hard in all of my life. DD suggested Leonard for a boy....DS suggested Bobette for a girl. If you haven't asked your other kids for name suggestions, I highly recommend it!
@Ssoccerball - suggestions from my 4 year old niece/nephew: Curious George, Marshall (and all other dog names on Paw Patrol that I can't remember), Carlos (for a boy or girl.. obviously, it's a beautiful name according to them), and Emmett-Pepepette (because my son's name is Emmett.. and that just makes sense).

Yeah, Nellie totally suggested we name the baby Everest after the Paw Patrol character!

@Ssoccerball LOL, my 6 year old is a fan of "Bob" and "Zero." I can't say much because I'm not doing much better on the idea front ...
Ditto. I should have said that part of the reason that we asked our kids for suggestions was because we are coming up blank on names for Baby B. Baby A is already Ben, so if we don't come up with something, soon, it very well could be Len and Ben.
I guess I was the most mature 4 year old in the world because when my parents asked me what I wanted to name my baby sister I said "Stephanie or Jennifer." She is Jennifer! Ha!
My daughter has suggested some actual names (Lily and Eva for a girl, Thomas for a boy) and then some not-so-normal names such as Everest, Snowbell, and FartFace.

My 4 yo has mostly suggested gibberish names that she makes up. However, the other day we had this conversation "Mom, mom, I have a good idea!" "Mmm-hmm" "We could name the baby a princess! I think Cinderella is a good name."
The 2 yo suggested Elizabeth, which is the name of our 11 month old. When I pointed that out she said that she thinks the new baby will be somebody else. A few minutes later she suggested Maria. Which is the name of her aunt.
We don't know what the baby is yet, but they're all convinced it's a girl. When I told the 4yo that it could be a brother she said "Well. I don't know if a brother would be a part of my family."
All this maiden name talk, I want some frank opinions on something I've been thinking about. My maiden name is Michael. It was always the plan to use it as a middle name for a boy. But since it seems we are having another girl, and will be done after this one, would it be too terribly crazy to give her the middle name Michael? I'm mostly considering it as a second middle name (even though I'm not crazy on two middle names) to appease DH. Seriously, tell me I'm crazy if you think I am, but I was so hoping to pass my maiden name on.
@camichael84 I'm sorry if you have posted it before but what would her name be? Including and excluding the Michael. I want to say it out loud and see what I think lol.
My husband and I are struggling to agree on a name. My 3 year old however tells everyone she meets that we are having a baby, and that her new sister's name is baby Candy Girl.
She will be "MIYA BELLA" for our Italian/Filipino princess Mia Bella means "my beautiful" in Italian...but in honor of his asian heritage we chose a Japanese spelling of Mia (Miya)
@camichael84 I am not even remotely helpful on this front, but I'm having the same conundrum in reverse with a more feminine maiden name (Darcey) while I'm having boy #3. My husband has a feminine middle name and has never been fond of it -- it's a weird double-standard but generally speaking I think girls have an easier time getting away with masculine or androgynous names. I bet there's a first name out there that will sound perfect with Michael.
I don't know if this is on the table, but with our second boy, we came up with an amalgamation of our middle names (Lindsay for husband, Lynn for me, which ultimately turned into Lynd). I might be doing something like this again this time around. Is there any option out there like that for you, you think, or would you 100% want to stay true to the Michael as written?

@Thurstobertay First, Darcey (I'm pronouncing the same as Darcy in my head) feels masculine to me because of Pride and Prejudice, so I probably wouldn't have given a second thought to using it as middle name for a boy. But I still see your husband's reluctance given his experience with a middle name that can be feminine.
I'm really wanting to stay true to Michael as it's written. My SIL suggested I use Michelle, but it just isn't the same as actually passing my maiden name on. However, I know if I'd opt for Michelle or Michaela, DH would be right on board.
@camichael84 I know an Isla James, and I definitely don't think it's odd to have a masculine middle name. I agree with PP with Michael Rose vs Rose Michael.
FTR: Michaela is totally cute though.
@Thurstobertay I think Darcey can hold its' own as a masculine name...
If anyone is in the mood for feeling helpful, I'm in need of a middle name that is 7 letters AND 3 syllables. Because I'm crazy. We're having a boy, sibs are Chloe Madilyn, Nixon Anthony, Hanna Lillian.. this baby is most likely going to be named Felix, but we have no more family names that fit our theme. Alternatively, would it be weird to do Anthony again? It's my husbands name.. he thinks it's strange.
Wife to A; Mama to C (2009), N (2011), H (2014) & baby F due 09/16/16
@Themaritimemama I don't think it's odd to reuse a middle name for more than one kid. I know a couple who happen to have the same middle name, so they gave it to both thier girls as well. I'm no help on the 7 letter, 3 syllables front. Wait...Timothy.
@camichael84 I am actually thinking of using James as a middle name if this is a girl. I'd like to do it as a nod to my dad who has 4 daughters. I've always wanted to incorporate my maiden name, but my husband is completely against it.
Our little girls name is Evin Alyse. Im named after my mom, who actually left me and my brother when I was 4. It's tradition on that side of the family to pass Jane on in some form. Considering, I don't think very highly of my mother I'm doing the opposite and naming my daughter after my dad, Devin. He raised me and my brother alone and did a heck of a job. So my daughter is Evin Alyse (prnounced just like the name Evan.. And uh-lease) Alyse comes from my best friend, Alyssa.
..at least, this is closest we've been to being sure about any name. The big problem is my mother *hates* Hazel. Not just dislikes... Hates. Because of a show about a witch named Hazel from who knows how long ago. I wish I never mentioned the name to her. The other small issue for me is there's no cutesy, easy nickname for when she's a baby and toddler (my niece is Mackenzie, and Kenzie is such a fitting NN for a baby girl).
@camichael84- I'd also go for it with Michael as a middle name if you like it. My mother's maiden name is Marquis (Mar-kee) and that was my sister's middle name, never thought anything of it. Also, I have a female friend whose first name is Mychal, and while not pronounced the same as Michael, a lot of people call her that and it suits her just fine
We find out the sex of our baby in less than 2 weeks! We are hoping for a boy. Our boy will be Bear Emerson and our girl will be Juniper Mae.
We had also considered Scarlett as a girl's name. I was named after my Nana and my name is Scarlett so this would be a 3rd generation Scarlett... seemed a bit much, but I get compliments all the time still in my mid 30's so maybe with another child.
We found out we are having another girl so Holland Joy will be joining our family. And girls names are hard to come up especially when it's the 4th one
Our little girl is Jayde (possibly Jade, still deciding spelling) . Now that we know we are having a girl we need to figure out a middle name. I thought it would be cute if it starts with an E and then her initials would be JEM . Like Jem and the Holograms lol.
I'm with everyone else, @camichael84 Love Layla Michael Rose. On a side note, my brother's best friend had a grandma whose first name was Michael. She got a notice during WW2 that she needed to enroll in the draft. you'll avoid such things using it as a middle name, but I actually think it's a kinda cool first name for a girl too!

camichael84 I like Michael as a middle name a lot. And I second pp, Layla Michael Rose sounds lovely.
